Eberron: The Rise of the Empire

Game Master nightflier

After looking at the two, I think I will choose the spell-less ranger. I have never played the gunslinger, which leads to having to make sure I know the rules on everything. I have played rangers more often, and because of this I will stick with that one for this game.

Plus, I do like the abilities that open up later on, especially the talents.

Working on the background now. She will be a motherly/nurturing type, which helps the others to cope with what we are. I can't wait till I get a solid draft working. Once I do I will post it in the alias and point everyone to it.

Huh... A motherly Ranger. That should be interesting.

They are warforged after all. I do get a bit more to work with than a core race. I'm having fun writing this up as we converse.

A motherly warforged Ranger?! Hah! Scratch the word "should" from my previous post! This will definitely be interesting. :)

Sounds good GMV. Have you thought about our relationship yet - do you want Tarragon to be the leader of the three war forged or Glaive? Tomp seems more the foundling of the group, though we all look after each other I'm sure...

I was thinking of being the de facto leader. Not like she is in command per se, but that she tends to being the nurturing, guiding mother. Once you see my story you will get a greater understanding. I am about to post it in my alias. Give me a few.

Alright, take a look. This is not a final draft by any means.

For those that may not know about it, take a look at this map of Korvaire. It is very detailed. I am making good use of it.

Wait... Is this an all-warforged party?

I'm submitting a goblin.

Almost certainly an alchemist.

Although Slayer or Ninja sounds like too much fun

Preliminary Backstory:

Codrus was found at the site of a battle, in the arms of his slain mother. Found by a Human Ranger named Bella Parin. Bella raised the young creature as if he were her own child, teaching him the ways of managing the wild, and using his fast-growing strength to help subdue various animals. Codrus rarely went to town with his adoptive mother, usually staying close where she could vouch on his behalf.

It was a simple, but pretty happy life, until Bella recently took ill and died in a storm. Now Codrus wanders into town, trying to figure out what to do with his life.

Personality:

Codrus is kind, inquisitive, and surprisingly affectionate. He is a little quiet around adventurers, seeing his origins a little plain against the stories he's heard, but nonetheless always willing to hear another one.

With so many warforge in party, this is going to be interesting. Sure can find a warforge to have small Zakmakiv sit on shoulders when relaxing walking about as a group, to give her a higher view of the world when not sneaking about.

Yep, only backgrounds are needed by end of day for selecting of vacant positions. The crunch to be completed next week, though some of us already fixing the crunch already, it is weekend after all, meaning more time to work on crunch.

@GMV it looks awesome! Sorry for late posting, both clases are good just play what you really want to play. The trio looks nice :) so you will be the lider of the three, glaive the balance and I'm the muscle?

Chekaar of the shaarat'khesh was an atypical member of the tribe, but a valuable member nonetheless. As an alchemist, he was looked at something akin to a shaman, although much less respected. His abilities when it came to stealth were also lacking, so he also lost a good deal of respect. His affinity for fire was also a bit of a mark against him, to some degree. However, when the trolls attacked the village, his fire was heavily desired. The silent blades made the cuts, but it was Chekaar's flame that kept the cuts from healing. It was a good deed, but he could not rest on those laurels forever. He is currently employed as a passive spy in theBloody Market of Rhukaan Draal. He deals in alchemical trinkets, and collects pieces of information to feed back to his brothers.

Chekaar is a goblin bordering on middle age, hands and parts of his face scarred with burns, some appearing intentional by virtue of them being in a pattern.

Goblin Alchemist (Fire Bomber)

I have the printed Eberron Campaign Setting (3.5 when it came out), but now looking for the PDF version to use when I travel around the globe. Paizo does not seem to have the Wizards of the Coast products PDFs any more. Anyone know where I could buy the PDF?

I wish publishers keep PDFs of discontinued products for purchase still.

Dark Archive

To clarify things, I will close the recruitment of players tomorrow. That means that after that I will not accept any new applications, but those players who applied will have a week to create their characters - and then I'll choose the party members among them.

Today i'll not be able to answer your questions, since I have family obligations, but you'll have my answers tomorrow.

Drive Thru now has all WoTC pre-now available again, try there.

Well completed the update (shifted ability scores, changed from PF Ninja to nightflier's Rogue, additional equipment, altered traits) of Zakmakiv. Only changes still are background in terms of party formation, and favoured class option choice (skill point or HP).

Since it was mentioned that all Pathfinder was available, I went with a Gunslinger bodyguard with the Mark of Sentinel but who was not a member of House Deneith due to the fact that he was a bastard and has no idea who his father is. After his mother's death he also walk away from her family as well, a minor noble family from Karrnath, so now he just goes by the single name Kaern. If Gunslinger is not viable Nightflier, would this backstory work for a fighter (possibly Tactician) or possibly even a rogue, with some careful planning?

PS: Cheers Tenro! Good luck!

THANX!!!!!

I completely forgot about DriveThru RPG store. They got all the Eberron stuff, and other sources that Paizo does not have.

Works for me!!! Nice work tying us together Tarragon!

Got my profile

I have been updating, proofreading, and adding minor details to the alias. Added description and personality spoilers. Crunch will come later when it is requested, as I want the character to be considered solely on the background and personality. I have been working on the crunch, and have most everything completed, including gear. Once I get a semi-final build I will post it if I am selected.

Thanks fbdaury!

More on Kaern:

Personality and Appearance:

Personality: Although at first he is hard pressed to open up to others, due to his rather dysfunctional personal history, Kaern is not unlikeable. He simply feels comfortable dealing with others on a more professional level than on a personal one- it’s much simpler to throw yourself in front of someone to take an attack leveled at them or to shoot/stab someone in the face than to get to know them as a person in his opinion.

If Kaern were to take the time to analyze his own motivations, he might realize that he has subconsciously set himself on a course that could lead him to a confrontation with House Deneith, but he really isn’t likely to take the time. At the conscious level of thought, he honestly believes he can continue the way he has been going without falling into House Deneith’s sights.

As far as risking his life for others, he sees it as a pay check and a contract- you agree to do as he says and pay his fee, he agrees to keep you alive. Break his rules and he feels under no obligation to continue trying to keep you alive when you clearly have no sense of self-preservation. Refuse to pay him/cheat him and he might feel obligated to take back the life that he gave you… That being said, he also believes in doing the right thing- when he sees a wrong being committed, he will intercede, he just might not throw himself in front of any arrows/bullets to do it.

Both as a point of pride and as a practical consideration, his weapons and gear are always maintained in the best condition he can (under his current circumstances)- banged up gear not only shows a lack of discipline but also has a tendency to break or otherwise fail you at the most inopportune times.

Appearance: Dark. His hair is a dark, rich black. His eyes, piercing and always searching, are deep pools of dark sapphire blue. Somehow, his features seem to almost always be in shadow, as if the light around him refused to intrude on his personal space. Both as a matter of Karrnathi tradition and practicality, he wears dark colors- blacks, dark midnight blues, and dark emerald greens. Light colors make you stand out- not a good thing in his line of work, plus they just don’t match his moods or personal tastes. Not by any means ugly, if he were somehow tricked into a good mood, one might even describe him as handsome- in the dark, brooding tradition.

All of Glaive's particulars now under his alias. Will update minor details to include Tomp and Tarragon's leadership/nurturer role.

I updated minor details.

I had never realized there were that many Warforged archetypes. That's pretty cool.

Do you mean avatars Lemmy?

Yup. Mixed the words up.

Applications are now closed. Please post under your character profiles from now on. You have five days to finish your PCs; I will make my selection known come Friday, since I'll be going on a trip over the weekend end we'll begin the game on Monday.

@nightflier, you can review character for any issues that need to be addressed. Did use your homebrew Rogue without scaling feats, instead of original PF Ninja.

Finally server is back on.

Does this mean you want a full profile including the crunch?

Background is more important. Crunch can be added or modified later.

Thanks! So far I think I am done with the meat of the story. As I think of them I will add little details to flesh the story out more. Barring that, I think I am done. Now it's just tweaking the crunch and waiting till you make your selections.

I think I'm mostly done with Alastor' background. I'm thinking of developing his personality and adding more specifics to his story as the game progresses.

Crunch is mostly done too, although I will probably adjust a few things and maybe make him a Cleric depending on party composition (If I'm the only caster, a more varied spell list will likely be more helpful to the party).

I want his combat style to be more about controlling/disabling his opponents through use of combat maneuvers, stand still, cornugon smash and stuff like that. Should make an interesting character to play and role play. :)

Oh, this is going to be interesting between Zakmakiv (a lizardfolk already in party) and Tarragon' personality.

Saw some typo errors on profile, fixed them. Still undecided about Favoured Class option.

That's not to say she will immediately be hostile, she just won't be warm or friendly to start. To jokingly use the Diplomacy chart, treat her as unfriendly when dealing with her.

Hey everyone, should I use this avatar? Or should I use the one I had before?

Both are fine but I'll go with the new one, it combines with the one Glaive and I have.

So Tarragon doesn't like Lizardfolks and Zakmakiv is one, that should be a fun party.

I so itching to get going with this adventure, even keeping eye on the FR one too, that was also interesting in area have not visited in FR games.

I made a mistake with my stats, already fixed them.

@Hey Tomp - that Improved Damage Reduction feat - got a link to that? And is Adamantite body just part of the Warforged, or is that another feat?

Feats

There you go, adamantite body is a feat you can take if you are a warforged and improved damage reduction is a subsequent of adamantite body (it helps since you can't wear armor with the adamantite)

@Tarragon - I like the new one too. I used that avatar for a gondsman (warforged by a Forgotten Realms name apparently) druid in a PbP. Kemek was a lot of fun, he eventually got dfecapitated and I kept playing Kemek's head a la C3-P0... He even has an alias for his head...

@Tomp - I look forward to seeing both non-human female characters should Tarragon be selected as well. The rivalry and suspicion (shard or not) may just develop into mutual respect and affection.

Cheers Tomp! I'll check out the options...

[EDIT - from my reading of this:

Adamantine Body wrote:
The composite plating of your body was made with adamantine, granting you DR 1 / - and making your slam attack, or any other natural weapons you possess, count as adamantine, in addition with other material types. However, you are always considered to be wearing metal armor and your base movement is reduced to 20' for Medium or 15' for Small. This damage reduction does not stack with other sources of damage reduction, even from sources that provide DR that is overcome by just adamantine, except the Improved Damage Reduction Feat. You cannot take the Psiforged Body feat if you have this feat. Neither Wish, Miracle nor similar abilities within the reach of player characters can remove these side effects without removing the entire feat.

I'm not seeing a restriction against wearing any other armor with it. What am I missing? /EDIT]

In Eberron for 3.5, Warforged could not wear armor at all as default due to the Composite Plating of their body- allowing them to do so for the PFRPG is only one of the conversion points I disagree with.

Well going to be really fun introduction of Zakmakiv, kitted out with a load of weapons all over the place. Bad first impressions for sure.

I thought "you are always considered to be wearing metal armor" meaned "you can't wear another armor on top of you body"

Well is up to nighflier how we use the feat, if we can use an armor with the adamantite plate or not.

2 more days to go....
