Hey guys. I'm starting this thread on Adam's suggestion. I don't want to make to many places for us to have to look for information, but this way you can post pertinent, but eholly OOC stuff on one site.

![]() |

A couple of points:
1. Power Attack is no on/off it's not a scale to choose from. Check out the feat description.
2. Combat gets complicated quickly. I'll take any suggestions on how to make it run more smoothly.

![]() |

So, first combat down. I learned a lot from the experience. It's harder to keep track than I realized it would be.
Going forward let's use Mike's suggestions. Post the round number and current HP first, then your actions. I'll do the same for the baddies. Also, I'll do the combat summary at the end of each fight. It's your responsibility to apply XP to your character sheet.
Also, I invoked the autopilot rule. Let me know if you're okay with what I did for actions. If not, adjust accordingly.
Man this is good stuff. I'm enjoying myself.

Odric the Stout |

Odric grimmaces and rubs his aching knee, then noticing Grym's ashen face, bloody hip and putrefying wounds thinks better of it. He roots around in his sodden belt pouch and produces a small vial covered in mud. He hands it to Grym gravely.
Odric hands one Potion of Cure Light Wounds to Thorgrym, I assume he quaffs it - Phil, roll your own - I don't want the guilt of it curing you for 1 HP if I roll poorly
Thorgrym quaffs the pale blue liquid and thanks Odric with a clasp of the forearm. Odric nods, You get to buy the first round back at the tavern after all this, friend
Odric clambers out of the boat, crouching next to the wall of the building. His boots squish and bubble as his weight shifts slightly and there is a swampy scent clinging to the big man. He fears that no matter how quiet he is or how stealthily he moves that the lingering odor from the ship's hold will give him away. While he waits quietly for his companions to join him, he risks a peek into the window.
stealth check 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18. Odric is on the dock, crouched just north of the northernmost window on the building's east wall. He tries seeing into that window.

ummmmm S, wrong thread....
Anyway, Josh decided to drop. The PbP setting just isn't his bag. That being said, as he didn't actually participate, and he's out....
XP for first combat is 80 per person. Please adjust accordingly.

Thorgrym the Tracker |

Did the gunslinger slip into the water which got his powder wet leaving him defenseless to the sharks? Or was he brought down by spiders?
Its a little different, like when we were planning at the end of the harrowing. I kept thinking we had left the place, but then we were still talking about it. Odd, but I'm having fun.

Morkeleb the Mighty |

one thing abotu combat is that you really need to wait your turn. :-) It's easy to get very eager and post your next action, but it's important to follow the initiative order (at least, whethe ryou're before or after the bad guys). That's my only real comment/suggestion.
actually, there's two. I suggest trying to keep one single post per palyer per round, if at all possible. Makes it easier on the DM. And don't forget to post ROUND # (and I also suggest current HP if not max, and AC if not your "typical" ac on yoru char sheet)
sorry to see Josh go. chris, if you're willing, I know a guy who would join tghe group!! :-)

Thorgrym the Tracker |

Good points Mike. But its tough to wait your turn so to speak. But I can see how it would get confusing w/ one person putting out multiple posts.
I guess it will work smoother w/ us now putting the round# and stuff up.

Ferox Kerr |

Bummer about Josh. I thought PbP would have worked for him. I was interested in seeing how a Gunslinger did at higher levels.

![]() |

Hmmmm Mike I was thinking about Bill, but I like a party of 5. Nothing against him, it's just I'd rather stay lean and mean.

Odric the Stout |

serious question: Is Keftan with us functioning as an NPC at this point of has he wandered off? I think NPC make the most sense. His character has a legitimate motivation to be here, nothing in-game would have driven him off except for Odric appropriating all his GPs and magic items. But I want to be clear on what our fighting strength is at this point..

![]() |

Having never actually seen an episode of that show, I can only defend myself I cleaning there are hot chicks on it, Which I seem to remember...
As for the serious question, the not so serious yet official answer, is that Keftan Is chasing the man in black who fled across the desert.
He's out like he was never there.

Some additional "house" rules:
If you're healed magically there are no scars. If you heal naturally you scar naturally.
Potions are anyone's guess, but the light through dark blue of curatives are constant. Remember ny the RAW anyone can identify a potion on. DC 25 Perception check.

So my role of 1 didn't quite cut it huh?

I recommend becoming familiar with the Appraise skill. Due to the nature of the roll, I will roll OFF the board and post the the "findings." S seems to be proactive with posting. This is actually really convenient because I can track the actual result and the true value easily.

Thorgrym the Tracker |

the other thing we coudl do is roll the appraise check under a spoiler taht we don't read (be honest now!!), and you post the result. *shrug*
I don't know. Adam is playing with us and old habits die hard.

Odric the Stout |

Dude... Hey by the way, there is a thread of discussion on this page somewhere about whether reading the adventure ahead is cheating and people actually are trying to argue no. They say it is your responsibility to the party to know what is coming and be prepared for it.
ALSO: WTF?!?!? Anyone ever seen this? Star Wars Holiday Special

![]() |

Just ask the guys.... i roll an unnatural number of 20s ehe.when I DM.

Odric the Stout |

![]() |

Dude, that is the most amazing display of S-hoodmanshipism I've seen in a long long time.
Mike, Tony, and Rich can all atest to the fact that I roll a crazy number of 20s. I even have shirt that says, "I roll 20s."
Unfortunately my dice rolling as a player is more inline with the law of averages.... accept ability scores. I've got a really good run with those.

Thanks, eh? That took all day though.
I can see the battle map.

![]() |

S, I don't want to sound gay or nuthin', but your writing of Odric is one of the few pieces of writing that actually causes me to laugh out loud when I read. The lengthy exposition pieces are friggin awesome. If Odric had his own Pathfinder novel, it'd be a bestseller.

Morkeleb the Mighty |

Chris, suggestion. At the end of each round, or else in the middle of a round when there have been a lot of posts (or several long ones), you amy want to post something like this:
ROUND #
First guy: resolved
Second guy: resolved
Bad guy: resolved
Third guy: unresolved
etc
and maybe a quick recap of the total action in the previous round. If you like, I can dig up a few examples from my other PBPs of what I'm talking about. With bigger combats, it's going to get *real* easy to lose track of who's doing what to whom.

![]() |

I already posted it. S, sent you an IKS email.

Morkeleb the Mighty |

hey Chris: I'll give a good example of a combat thread later (today or tomorrow). For nwo, however, I made a nice mod on my profile page. Under my "spells" spoiler, I made each spell a link to the Paizo web source, so you shoulnd't have to look anything up (just click Morkeleb to get to my profile, and the spell will be linked under the spells spoiler). I've also noted what spells are prepared, the DC for a 0 levle spell, and my DC bonuses for enchantment spells (whihc are italicized in the list).
Man, I'm good.

Morkeleb the Mighty |

Here is a "good example" of a battle, IMHO. I encourage everyone to read it!
The battle itself starts toward the bottom. It's a good exmaple for a lot of reasons: the DM does what I believe to be a really good job of sumarizing each round, and keeping track of who is resolved and who is not. I also like his techniquie of allowing a round to progress; as long as all the bad guys have gone, some of the good guys at the end of teh round might be delayed in posting but the good guys at the front of the new round can still post.
It's also a long, complicated battle which was pretty well kept-track of (I'll read through it again to make sure I think I'm right).
it's also a good example of players being kinda dumb--those front-liners moving into the room so they can get surrounded? What what??

Thorgrym the Tracker |

Hey, did we ever get any XP for the gnome taskmaster? I went back and looked at it but didnt see it. Did I miss it? I have my XP count at 547. Does that sound right?

Ferox Kerr |

I have my total at 467. There's 80 xp I'm not accounting for somewhere, I guess.

![]() |

Phil, I think you're right. I just went through an double checked. The correct XP total for each PC should be 587

Morkeleb the Mighty |

Gentz . . . I have a bookkeeping suggestion.
Remember how you added your class/race/level? by going to your profile and adding it to that field? Well, I suggest that you keep your current/max HP and current AC/touch AC in that line as well, like I did. This will do 2 things.
1) keeps a live up to date record of those for all to see (and so Chris doesn't have to ask before killing us)
2) makes it so you don't have to update your Obs Portal character for losing or healing a few hp (because Chris gets an email every time a characrter is updated, but it doesn't tell him HOW it was updated). Personally, I save the Obs Portal character sheet as a "level up/base" sheet, and keep day-to-day stuff on the Paizo profile for easy access.
Just a suggestion. :-) Oh, it also keeps combat posts just a little shorter because you don't have to add an HP line in each post.
any other suggestions for critical stats that may go in that line? maybe touch AC?

![]() |

Oh yeah. I will get to this as soon as I can

![]() |

So the quick summary of fame is that it works like Karma in the old Marvel game.... sort of.
Fame is something like a cross between an XP total and an ability score. Each character has 2 parts to their fame score. The total Fame, and current prestige.
Total Fame: This represents how flat out famous you are. It controls access to certain favors and uses.
Current Prestige: This represents the amount of social collateral you have, and it gets turned in for favors.
Here's a quick example:
You do a deed that earns you 2 Fame. Your Fame score is now 2. It gets you access to the list of favors that cost less than or equal to 2 points. If you cash in a favor that is worth 1 point (such as having someone donate a 150 gp item) than your Fame is 1/2. If you cash in a second favor worth 1 point, your Fame is 0/2.
I'll put up the list of favors ASAP.

Morkeleb the Mighty |

So, another way to say it would be like this:
"Fame" is the total fame points you've ever been awarded. "Prestiege" is your current number of fame points. As you "cash in favors" by spending fame points, your Prestiege drops, but you are still as famous as ever.
right?

![]() |

Yes that is a much more succinct way to describe it
