They look at Larissa askance for some reason, then all lower their crossbows.
The little bug people are somewhat disturbing to them, but Edwin is able to vouch for the dromite race.....
The cabinet full of skins, though; that's the clincher.
"These people,.......weren't human;" they look at the dromites again; "err,......" then at Larissa, who they feel is up to something,...."er yeah. They were up to some deeds thorough unwholesome.
Definitely have to enter this....this wardrobe of,.....what the hell.....into evidence for the trial good sir.
You people are a boon to Lepidstadt, Mr. Drood....."

Edwin Drood |

"Not at all good sir, you are too kind. It is YOU gentlemen who are the true heroes of Lepidstadt. You who lay your lives on the line each day to protect the good people of this city. We are merely humble public servants who strive to ensure that everyone gets what they deserve in the instances of these terrible crimes, and to see that justice is served.
"SOmetimes,... what's right is not always right in front of you,..." He trails off thoughtfully.

Larissa Brightfoot |

Hey! I got a 15! It's not like I would have come across as an undiscovered serial killer! Unless you count spooks, of course, but that's different. It is! Heh. Oh,wait! It's the eyes, isn't it? They are prejudiced against those with mismatched eyes!
"We also need to enter into evidence that there was a mask similar to these skins that was found in a campsite near the site of the murders in the swamp."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
"Sir, if I may ask, do you have someone with the knowledge to safely turn down those massive kettles? I fear someone might get hurt around such equipment if they lack experience. And who do you think would have claim to the merchandise found here? We would like to enter a claim, I believe, as there were many useful items found as we searched for the children. Several that the Guard could make use of, actually."

"Aw, you're too kind. We never did any of this type ultraviolence though....you guys are real deal fellers...."

They all look at her in disdain and puzzlement.
"Are you trying to bribe us?....what?Ooooh, I suppose there's somebody up at the Uni that'll know what to do with those things.....just, just take what you've got; the rest of the place will go to the court system to figure out what to do with it.
You don't get salvage rights or squatter's rights,...there's debtors involved here; the Chymic Works will probably have to be liquidated."

Leik Fire |

Leik speaks in a low tone to Larissa, "The beings inside might get squatter's rights... They were held as prisoners of a sort, and I believe they may have actually been created at this location. That will be for the courts and church to work out, I suppose."

Smiling sweetly, she replies to the guard, "I'm sure you are right - the courts will decide."
Frustrated at the continued suspicion and misunderstanding, but satisfied that they at least heard her remarks, Larissa waits to follow the others away.

Edwin Drood |

Edwin would like to stay and visit with the priests before they enter and meet the surrenderees. They will probably slay them out of hand, but he wants to try and explain the situation first. They may be able to do something to help (a true resurrection is probably out at this level of the game,) if only prepare them for last rites, etc. ;P
Otherwise,... On with the show! :)
"Of course." Edwin murmurs with a small, knowing smile.
It is unclear if he is answering Larissa or the guards,...

dungeonmaster heathy |

They all look at Alinya; they're uncomfortable and leery of nobles too.....long history in Ustalav and whatnot.
The priests come around finally; nod at Rholf and get a description of where the undead are.
"We'll do what we can; Pharasma's will be done. Sure; Lady Petrovna will see to the younglings. She had a dromite friend years ago in her wandering days of adventure. She knows about the aphid folk."
And Ragnvaldr says "Ah! Oy! I need a beer and how!"
and with that,.......he's on down the road........
y'all can search for him if you like; he'll be okay though.....he's not being kidnapped by Mothmen.

Edwin Drood |

"Excellent. How is everyone faring then?" Edwin rubs his hands together briskly.
How much do we have left in the ways of heals/spells/etc? I hate to waste the day with the trial looming nearer, but it won't do us any good to go and get clobbered because we're out of our most useful/powerful abilities! ;P

Larissa Brightfoot |

I leveled up with the assumption that we were resting, so I don't know what my old limits were. As it is, I've used 50% to 100% of my spells at each level and around 50% of each of my daily abilities. A major encounter right now would be a problem, I think.

Larissa Brightfoot |

That was a quick technological recovery! Welcome back!
"You're right, Mr. Drood. Time is of the essence. Where does your intuition lead us next?"
Alinya, have you had opportunity to total up the treasure we've collected?
If we are going to reload as though we rested, Larissa would have burned her remaining spells and channels to bring party members up to full hit points if they weren't already there.

Alinya
Um, no :(
I did find the page I wanted to start from, back when we were in the inn with about 2k gold each and then did some shopping (cloaks of resistance +1 for all). Page 105 I think.
But that's as far as I got :(
I might do better over the weekend.
EDIT - thought this was the discussion thread. Edited to tidy up.
"We started with a list of sites to investigate, and I think we have one last place to visit before we need to either search for more lines of enquiry or leap wildly to ill supported conclusions."

That's cool. I'll see what I can do to help and PM my findings to you so we can post a complete list once we are done. How's that sound?

Lady Alinya Gurov |

It sounds amazing actually :) I'm up to my neck designing an arachno-ninja archetype and tonight I'm going to an urban circus. Any help more than welcome!
Also, yay for cheap!
"Though of course, I am sure that Edwin would never allow us to leap to anything so inelegant as an ill supported conclusion."

Larissa Brightfoot |

I made it through page 119 tonight. PM forthcoming.
Having reviewed clues, there are questions to be asked.
Was the skinned face done in the same fashion as the full skins we found in the chymickul factory?
Do we want to inquire about the maker's mark on the surgical tools (It was a tiny raven; they were silver with amethysts.
We found a vial at the ruins labeled "Vorkstag and Gryne's Chymickal Bleach". Do we want to inquire as to the location of Vorkstag and Gryne? Dare I hope they are the two we just dispatched?
Would the surgeon's tools be of use for certain Heal checks or are they just worth selling for us? How about the carving knives from the same locatoin - are they worthwhile as weapons or well-built tools?
"I think we have two more places to visit after sharing our findings with the court. The university theft where the Beast was found occurred last, so we should visit the other community first - Herkstead or Harkstag, I think?"

Edwin Drood |

"Though of course, I am sure that Edwin would never allow us to leap to anything so inelegant as an ill supported conclusion."
Edwin sniffs, expressing his feelings on that particular thought with a single, elegant sound.
"Agreed. We should make all haste to this town to continue our investigations. I feel certain that by then a visit to the University will tie everything up,... quite nicely." He says, a strange gleam in his eye.

dungeonmaster heathy |

The little group trundles out of town around noon and heads north and west into swampy lands.
It's sunny for about a half hour, then clouds roll in and it starts a misty rain.
The road is pretty much desserted.
About halfway there, you spot a lone farmstead, it's back up on a hill off of the road.
You can see a simple house with tin roof, and a porch. Three women sit on the porch. They're spinning wool.

Edwin Drood |

Edwin spots the women on the porch, and studies them for a moment, his brow furrowed in thought.
"How very, grecian." He murmurs with a small smirk.
"Shall we say 'hello'? They live near where we are going to investigate. It is possible, however unlikely, that they have seen or heard something that may be of use to us."
