I think 14 people combats would be awesome or terribly bad. Probably best to have 2x7.
Reading it all is fun but eork is sometimes busy and i cant post until im home. Which isstill several hrs away. From Oz here.

Ysanne Nightweaver |

I think the two groups thing is a fun idea. I don't plan on rocking the boat outside of what Ysanne feels is the best for her, and so far a dark Vem and a magnetic Jezelyn thrill her to death. But if she's group B, she's group B, no feelings hurt.
Personally I like the number of posts, it's a fun read. Apologies to the ones that wish it was a little quieter, usually after a week or so people tend to quiet down and some disappear so it might get better. I'm excited to be in this PbP and very aware I'm probably on the heavy side with posts so apologies for my part in adding to the complexity.

Vem |

A'ight. Title time plus fishing for ideas.
生 (ki) "life"
or
霊 (rei) "soul" or "spirit"Alternative options includes 亡 (Bō) meaning "ruined"
plus...
tatsu or -long
"ki-long" ("life dragon") this is a mash-up, it sounds better to me than "ki-ryuu" due to Street Fighter, and better than "Ryuuki" because that sounds female to my ear.
"tatsu-no-ki" ("dragon of life")Incidentally, Thorrpe, the thing with the dog is first-class awesome. I've run out of time to respond at present, but I will, for sure. :)
Also, it looks like the "Mharo" crew have it. :)
(-long and tatsu are both "dragon", though -long is Chinese).
だめ ひとつ
Bad/Broken/Useless One

Tacticslion |

glad you like it...I would love help coming up with a new name for Shadow, shadow is really a place holder.
Well, uh, there's always:
影 (Kage) or "shadow" in Japanese
There's always Anhinga or "snake bird" or Telotornis the "bird snake", but, uh, I dunno?
You might mix them somehow? Alternatively,
鳥 (Tori) "bird" in Japanese; or 羽 (Hane) "feather" in Japanese
ヘビ (Hebi) "snake" in Japanese
ヘビウ (Hebiu) "snakebird" in Japanese No, I don't know why that happens.
Or Quetzalcoatl or one of the others there. :)
... but I actually like "Shadow". (I also like Shadow: he's pretty neat.)

からす (Karasu) - Raven

Thorrpe |

oh i figured people would think it was cheesy,
I will leave it alone.

Thorrpe |

i think once we get to the point where we are breaking up that we should reevaluate who goes where, since some will develop relationships

Kite 'Kaito' Exeter |

Excellent, that'll make everything much smoother.

Spirit of Kotei |

As well, I wish to state that I am a very flexible GM. I understand that some people post more and some post less. I myself enjoy giving PCs plenty of time without GM interaction so they can RP with each other just as in a real life campaign.
I never demand more than a post a day and I understand that some PCs may be lost within the walls of text.
However, if you find yourself shut off from a conversation or unsure of what to do, feel free to wander the monastery for now, meet some of the people living there and I'll be happy to oblige.
If your character wishes to spend some time alone, feel free to do so.
However, if any characters ever feel left out or unsure if they wish to continue or commit, please PM me. I try and make a campaign fun for everyone. Some of you may be combat oriented and I can always adapt to character needs.

Mhar "Mharo" the Spirit Dragon |

QUASI-EDIT: Hah! Ninja'd! ... makes sense in this game.
He hesitantly reaches out and pets the dog.
"That is... kind of you." he says, then lapses into thinking quietly for a time.
It soothes him, somehow.
"This... helps. I must... go... ask questions. Thank you."
He heads stands, and then heads out to see the monks.
So, this is probably my finalized name.

Thorrpe |

i think we should reorganize the groups into two based on the replies. So far we seem to have a for the good of the land and a yes I will help and along the way darkness will rise :)
So far the way I see it the groups look like
Thorrpe
Mhar
Rai
Ysanne
Vem

I think I've been quite friendly and "good". A darkness rises group is going to be very small.

Those who surround themselves with like minded individuals quickly run out of things to say. I disagree thorpe.

HA! I wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. My worry is that the dark group will wind up being at odds with some of the others...myself included. In any event that is my suggestion the group can agree or disagree and I am fine with it, but I have done enough of these to know that intraparty conflict kills them very quickly, and if we can have two groups that have a similar view on life we might do better.
in any event not trying to start an argument

My favorite character i ever made and my highest level one is a chaotic evil oracle of noticula in a party of monks and paladins.
Edit: She is neutral evil now though.

Personally if I do something that puts you at odds with me, I'm not a very good evil witch. :)

Kite 'Kaito' Exeter |

I suppose we'll play it by ear for now.

Ysanne Nightweaver |

With no expression, "Please call me Rai and what should I call you?
Ysanne introduced herself in a prior post to Rai in the hall so I’m unclear as to if you meant to ask because Rai missed it, or perhaps you might have missed it. I don’t want to presume either and react without checking first.
I went ahead and copied the earlier post for your convience. I also moved the dialogue here since the arc progressed.
When Raitoningu moves to leave the armory, Ysanne touches him on the shoulder in hopes of having a word with him.
“Pardon. I remember you aboard the Salvation, just as well as I know you now. My name is Ysanne and I'd be a fool to not notice your ferocious efficiency. You are a killer. I mean that in the most pleasant way possible,"
Ysanne bites down on the corner of her lower lip excitedly, "Despite the circumstances I noticed you declare your independance from what many are resigning to as masters, and I wanted you to know I respect that, regardless of the reasons you keep."
Ysanne seems satisfied with her expression, and meakly curtsies.

Mhar "Mharo" the Spirit Dragon |

Wait. I agree with both [s]of the above points[/i] Thorrpe and Vem! And they disagree! What party am I part of again*?! Maaaaaaaan, now I gotta clone extra Mhars to send them with people...
:)
* I actually know. I'm just having fun. Also I've found that agreeing with two opposing sides is actually substantially less difficult than I once thought.
EDITED: for clarity... like a Ninja! (Because I got NINJA'D. Like three or four times.) :D
I would personally like to apologize for Mhar's generally one-note moodiness. Currently, he's a seventeen (+/-300)-year-old young man who has literally had everything that he thought defined him stripped away. He's going to emotionally fluctuate between grim determination and whiny (if accurate), "it's not fair!" Dialogues until he gets used to the new paradigm and actually has something new that can define him well - he wants to live, he's just lacking a good reason at present. And even then, it'll probably take some time to settle into that new raison d'être and for it to feel real. Sure he's a little more mature than his years would suggest (okay, okay, so it's just "more mature than he was"), but he's still 17: basically hormones plus brain development in an ever-hungry meat-sack. But he should adjust "soonish" in-game. Pleasantly, he'll soon be 18 years old! and! you know! that's a whole year older: loads more mature! :D
To be clear, I recognize that not all teenagers neatly fit into the stereotypes. I certainly didn't over-all; but the stereotype is there for a reason, namely that it exists as kind of a loose and multidimensional Ven Diagram of Teenage-hood with most people touching at least some of the stereotype somewhere which, when pulled back far enough, kind of gives a general impression of "this thing" (with few actually touching all parts).
For the curious, I (loosely) imagine him as having acquired the "penafits" of ancient during his time dead: -6 physical stats (except CON, 'cause, you know, I need it) and +3 mental stats. Just so you guys can have a kind of picture of what he was "before" v. how he is "now". I don't imagine the physical effects came because of the 300 years (they came because of the events on the ship wreck), but the mental effects sure did (he matured greatly in the spiritual processing line; he just can't consciously remember it).

Vem |

This got me thinking, and it's not directed at you Thorpe, but I find in my experiences the source of party conflict when mixing evil and good alignments, comes from the good side instigating said fight.
And the way they do this, is by generally trying to control an evil character in a way that an evil character is better at. Let me explain; if I was a good character and grouped with an evil character the last thing I'd ever do is threaten the evil character.
Why? Because they're better at being evil than I am. They know I'm good, they know there are things I won't do, and they don't have those obligations. Why would I threaten someone who has no moral high ground on slitting my throat in my sleep? I wouldn't.
In the same way, an evil character doesn't do well to be an annoyance to their party. The party has no obligation to keep them around if they're not useful. It's their job to stay on good terms with the good characters, they certainly don't have to be nice, but they have to work together. If not, why would the evil character stick around at all. They wouldn't. So they need the party to accomplish their task. The party is a valuable resource to them, and they shouldn't squander this resource.
Some of my favorite games have had evil and good characters who collide, maybe even come to blows with each other, and eventually reach an understanding. That's character growth, and it's awesome.
Just some thoughts.

Zayne Iwatani |

As Zayne exited the dojo to catch his breath he felt slightly ashamed. He was so wrapped up in his own inner turmoil he neglected to be aware of his surroundings. Several people had now occupied the Garden. It was as if they were drawn there like salmon returning to the stream they were born in. In there case it was a close representation.
The weirdest part about the scene was that Kite that was his name right? was apparently talking to a tree. Then he caught sight of something white and heard the tell tail sign of a whetstone on metal. The pale one. Vem. he thought. Another one to keep his eye on. Now that he knew what he was looking for he could make out more of her. Specifically the light armor and the small light blades. Those told him more about her than what she said. Mainly because he could barely understand her. Everything she said was poetic and strange. She did take care of her blades though, and that was something he could respect. More than he could say for himself as he looked up his slightly dulled weapon. A few minutes after Kite walked away he approached the tree.
You have a another? I seem to have forgotten the most important rule about weapon care.

Tatsuo Kasai "Simeon Gaijin" |

I had Simeon be a stowaway at first so I though it would be strange that he has a bunch of druid gear and whatnot. I am intending to play it out so the year of training has him encounter a spirit or something, perhaps a dragon spirit which shows him the way to become a druid. And from there he would start to grow more. Even though he is not the youngest he still probably is the least experienced of everyone and takes a while to feel like anyones equal.

Vem |

Vem sets her blades and stone aside and reaches back into her pocket again to retrieve another stone. Then picks back her up blade and stone with her other hand, before wrapping her legs around the branch and turning herself to hang upside down from the tree.
Then hands a stone to the new arrival.
"Another comes to speak with Vem? Popular is she who shows herself a threat. I care not for that weapon of yours, unwieldly, heavy, slow thing that it is -- but dangerous, I can respect dangerous. What is on your mind odd one? "

Zayne Iwatani |

Nothing save for a sharper blade, he says without looking up.
He then plops down in the tree's shade and begins to sharpen the blade in a slow, almost pacifying metronome.
I'll have to wait till I get home to listen to that sound bit. No speakers at work.

Raitoningu Burēdo |

Thank you for pointing out my oversight. I have a million things going on right now so I easily look over things especially since this gaming thread is now my most active one.
Rai responds with no expression, "Ysanne, I prefer Rai for now."

Mhar "Mharo" the Spirit Dragon |

Thanks for the update!
(Also, don't you mean "talk smack" about him? I'm not entirely sure what "Smack about him" means, otherwise, but it sounds terribly awkward, and probably isn't legal under the Shogunate...) ;D

Jezelyn "Celestial Song Dragon" |

I posted in gameplay in a way that I think we can all continue talking in character there for a while. I think the Spirit of Kotei will be fine with it, and, if not, he can retroactively amend anything that doesn't work for him.

Ysanne Nightweaver |

Raitoningu Burēdo |

HAI! With his left hand on top of the intersection of his Katana and Wakizashi, Rai bows low to Ysanne. As soon as he finishes his bow, "Ja mata ne Ysanne."

Vem |

It picked up a lot of noise when I uploaded it which was kind of disappointing; the one on my hard drive is much cleaner.
But thanks :)
Maybe I'll try to clean it up and re upload it later. I liked making it so I might do more when I have the time.

Ysanne Nightweaver |

So, since months are going by Ysanne would ideally like to meet and talk with everyone but I don't want to force interaction on anyone. If someone wants to interact with Ysanne, she is normally in the library, and its obvious she isn't skilled at any much combat or stealth stuff.
