Wishing you all the best! Be strong Jezelyn!

I'll keep you in my thoughts! Get well soon!

I remind you that assassination is not required since the reboot. Instead, the Path simply wants the lands taken by force to be returned.

"The Governor is not an evil man."

This is said through a mouthful of Hitokage.

"The problem is that the Governor is not the ultimate authority. He too has superiors and they are much more demanding. They want land, resources, slaves. The Governor has no choice on the matter. He is in a position of power of course so he does reap benefits but I have seen him with his children. I would rather see the Governor abandon the Gaijins... no offense milady."

Fabulous! A bathhouse visit it is!

To be short and sweet, the Master of the Guard is quite obviously charmed by the approach and during your sweet soiree wastes no time in indulging in what you have to offer.

Without much persuading, you easily manage to extract the following information from him:

- By "man at arms" I imagine you mean mercenary personnel that are hired on as backup. Essentially all men and some of the women of the area are capable of becoming militia but only a dozen or so are actually trained.

- Of those dozen, a good amount are ronin or other less savory types and therefore only four of them are currently hired on to the party. This of course is a problem, and the Master of the Guard easily lets you know that they could use more help. Especially respectable help.

- He blames his luck of being single on his lack of spare time. Also, as Master of the Guard, he just simply doesn't get much "romantic times". His job is a heavy one.

- "Monsters" is a big word in fact. The Sarutoko are boorish and dimwitted and are vandals at best but they are still living beings with emotions. A diplomatic solution was recently tried (the diplomatic party failed fabulous) and now they are seeking a more forceful resolution.

- A few thieves and brigands are wanted but the Governor tends to be quick about quelling troublemakers. The Sarutoko have simply been more troublesome than most.

- The Master of the Guard quiets up a bit at the mention of politics. While he is loyal to the Imperials, the Gaijin Governor had brought wealth to the town, albeit at a large cost. He seems undecided about which is the better choice.

- His favorite food is Hitokage. These small lizards have rudimentary flame sacs and are also known as Finger Dragons. Roasted and grilled they are apparently delicious and surprisingly cheap.

So where do I find an opportunity to talk to the Master of the Guard?

You just need to walk into the Constabulary and ask to talk to the Master of the Guards. Let me know if you do this by yourself or with others.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

1) Vem, Jian, and Breathe finding a 'job' (legitimate or otherwise) near the manor
2) Jian's "recon" - fast exist from town and manor area, in case it's needed
3) After these are in place (proven impossible), Jez and Mhar seek entry into the governor's mansion.
4) Then we work on getting Ysanne in.

1) I've mentioned these earlier. Anyone with a Profession skill can ply their trade of course and if you manage some pretty good rolls I'll say that you catch the eye of the local area.

2) Simple enough, the harbor. Diving into the waters is cold and risky, but people are loathe to chase after and the governor's estate borders the bay. Sure it's got a 30 foot cliff but that's easily dealt with I'd imagine.

3) Going by Jezelyn's actions, you both do succeed in meeting with the governor but your discussion only holds his attention for a brief fifteen minutes. However, your artistic talent catches the eye of his wife and she asks that Jezelyn be present at the next soiree as a guest and performer.

As for getting a look of the grounds, the governor's inner estate wasn't visited, simply the outlying area. You know that from the front gates, heavily guarded by soldiers manning a wall, the inner courtyard takes about a minute walk to reach the next wall. Think of it as a space between defenses. Then, within the next area there are rooms where visitors can meet the governor.

Nothing detects as magical so far.

I can't seem to find what info Braeth, Jian and Vem are looking for... it might have gotten mired in the Thorrpe discussion

Spirit, how does one get invited to the party? How does one get weapons into the party? Is the Master of the Guard a nice guy or a greedy slime-ball, has he already hired the security, and is he married himself with children?

Being invited to the part can be done in a few ways:

- Get hired on as mercenary personnel. For this you'd need to go see the town constables as mentioned above.

- Disguise yourselves as a party troupe... acting, dancing, fireworks, martial arts, etc.

- Get known quickly. Killing a monster would do the trick and there just so happens to be a band of roaming Sarutoko (dimwitted ape-men) in the local coastal bamboo groves.

Getting weapons inside is problematic but not impossible. Disguise them or sneak them in is the only solution. Be creative.

The Master of the Guard is a nice man. Tough, strong but not cruel. He has not yet hired the personnel and he is not married.

Are we waiting on me for something?

The way I see it, you have a few leads but the most promising is either infiltrating or getting invited to the party... or even then, you can always try and get hired on as additional help/security. These parties are quite large and your diplomacy checks easily gathered this information.

Usually, the Governor sends his Master of the Guard to recruit from the local constabulary.

As long as it doesn't break the rules, it should be fine.

The governor's wife organizes the parties but she sends couriers into town to pick up supplies and essentials.

Information and etc
Yokuna is held by the governor in his entirety. Beneath him, a council of locals, all experts in their field give him advice and aid.

The governor's current objectives seem to be acquiring more territory for the Gaijin. He is not a heartless man, but his actions are often dictator-like and he does use indentured labor in his endeavors.

He is not a lavish person however, but he does host soirees and affairs at his manorhouse from time to time. The next one would be in two weeks time during a local festival. His manorhouse grounds are then opened to the public.

On further notice, I've been asked to remove Thorrpe from the game. I do not need a chain of posts arguing his decision or the situation. I believe things got a little edgy but I do not blame anyone or accuse anyone. If anyone wants to speak about it, PM me.

Sorry for the delay, it's been a crazy week. Not giving up, just trying to find time.

Information Gathered forthcoming. In terms of posting expect 1-2 days per post for a little bit with school and life in the way.

Asking around about the Governor has gotten a mixed bag of responses. It seems the sentiment around town is twofold, some hate the gaijin governor for his aggressive actions and use of indentured labor while others view him as a military genius and a worthwhile leader.

The Governor has a wife, two sons and a daughter. He has numerous servants, both gaijin and locals.

Mhar, what information are you trying to gather then?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You all stand outside the port city of Yokuna. The Path of Seikei has tasked you with meeting the Governor and negotiating a peaceful settlement. The Governor must relinquish claimed lands or suffer the consequences. There is a chance for peace now, but if all else fails, be prepared to fight.

You have a day to explore Yokuna, shop, visit, gather information and the like.

While we have you here Spirit, are we scrapping the bonuses for the training section? Just curious because I could do a lot of neat things with a bonus feat or extra weapon Proficiency for example.

Edit: Just wanted to emphasize it's not a big deal to me if we are, it's just I had a few ideas in mind from when we were starting out knowing we'd likely get a bonus weapon proficiency or feat along the way through our montage. Obviously if we don't it's fine I just need to adjust my list of available build options.

-Posted with Wayfinder

Ah true... well I'll be a kind old soul and allow each character to ALSO select an additional bonus feat as a "sum total" of all the training montage. This feat must be selected from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook.

Partial wands are fine and I'll allow the non evil infernal healing. Sorry again for a light delay, this week is hectic with my mom moving to Europe and Otakuthon rearing its head.

A quick heads up as well, I've modified the mission so as to be more natural and less character breaking. There were obviously qualms about assassination attempt so instead it will be more of an attempted diplomacy mission. If that fails, then the monks expect the Dragons of the West to do their part.

Braeth, Mhar, Thorrpe, Raitoningu, Jian Min, Everest, Vem and Ysanne.

Thank you all once again for returning.

The first order of business would indeed be to level up to 2nd level. Also, assume you have been gifted 1000 gp in funds to equip yourself. I will slightly reboot the story/mission, making it simpler to manage for everyone.

Once you have completed your upgrade, head over to gameplay!

Monday also seems like the best day to restart. I'll do a clean up of the campaign, make the updates required and get prepped. A smaller team means some changes.

Thanks again for everything!

I am on my knees bowed and begging forgiveness.

This has been a seven week summer to remember on my end, but many side projects languished. I apologize for the lack of posts and replies on my part.

I admit to motivational weaknesses as well as perhaps a fear of reprisal but many of you have remained despite the enormity of the break.

This is a message informing you all that I am done with summer camp and have free time once again.

To those of you still there, I am ready to carry on this campaign.

If you would still have me.

Sorry for the delays, this has been a crazy week.I am alive, this is not dead and it's been a 60h week for me and I've been slowly dying of energy loss. Expect a full answering of all questions tomorrow after my workshift.

Sorry, a part of my text actually got cut off when I Copied-Pasted, essentially the entirety of the mission details.

Tristan Prynce is a slave trader and colonial merchant holed up in Ame Bay. From his colonial manor he oversees a significant monopoly on all fishing and commerce in the region.[/n]

[b]By assassination, we do not necessarily mean death. We do however, need to regain control over Ame Bay. An important first step in reclaiming our lands from the colonials requires the use of this secluded and fortified natural harbor.

You will find him most likely in his manorhouse. Getting there is simple, you will be able to freely walk there. As gaijin the chances of you being stopped is low. We know he employs over three dozen guards but within his manorhouse we have no eyes and ears. While you attack the manorhouse we will take care of causing ample distractions within the town. As for contacts, we have an ally waiting for you at Ame Bay. She will be staying at the Shirozai Ryokan.

I do allow average rolls for hit points if ever.

Reporting in as well ;)

Game is not dead I assure you, just out of juice as Raitoningu mentioned. I don't normally do this but I feel that this round of montage is taking a very long time and isn't as action packed and fun as I imagined it to be. This isn't a story on repairing houses and I apologize for this brief foray into more "meh" territory. Therefore, please accept the following fast forward and my apologies for doing so. I simply feel that even my motivation has gone down and writing up complete "wrap ups" of three days fixing houses is rather lackluster for everyone here. You are heroes (even you evil ones) and deserve a befitting campaign.

Extreme Fastforward
The last days repairing the village go by quickly and smoothly despite the weather conditions. The hole in the lake did not go unnoticed but the passageway is too hazardous to navigate.

Shen returns and is pleased with the work and ideas put into the repairs.

"You have done extremely well. I am more than pleased at what you managed to accomplish with so little time."

"In response to your questions as to what caused this place's destruction, even we are at a loss. We do know it was a monster that did this, but ignore which one and why."

"Now, it is time we began more serious training. Follow me."

===

As the days, weeks and then months pass, you feel yourselves becoming stronger, smarter and more learned.

Though you are never let far from your village nor the monastery you each pick up rudimentary skills including learning basic Kotan (I will mark when you can translate).

You all reach 2nd Level. You may decide any action that would have taken a year or so to do, such as crafting to be possible to complete.

Now, assembled together at the monastery on your final night, you have been each asked to prepare a short speech on the subject of your first mission: the assassination of the colonial merchant lord Tristan Prynce.

Any questions, let me know.

I'm going to have to break my previous word and post tomorrow morning. I'm literally crumbling from lack of sleep... sigh, you'd think teaching 30 kids D&D would be more fun than exhausting.

I'll be updating tomorrow, long camp day left me tuckered out. I have decided to do a flash forward however seeing as I realize three days is taking longer than I thought. Start thinking about your lv 2 choices, it's coming soon!

If anyone is interested, I've begun writing an adventure path on the paizo forums over here: LINK

I would love commentary, feedback and suggestions. Or feel free to just dot in and read whenever you want!

Ah, did not see the fortitude saves!

The hole curves out after a couple hundred feet and ends up in a large air pocket. The cavern is luminous much like the tunnel. At the far end of the of the chamber the entire rock wall seems to have undergone a quite sever collapse. Whatever came through or passed by here seems to be long gone, with only debris left behind.

Well, I described the hole earlier so until Simeon states he surfaces and divulges, feel free to move on to Day 3. This is the last day of the challenge. The weather persists in being torrential.

I've noted everyone's daily tasks and besides Simeon, if everyone feels fine we can move on to Day 3? I assume he lets everyone know about the unnatural hole in the lake...

There are rules for it actually.

LINKY

"Very deep water is not only generally pitch black, posing a navigational hazard, but worse, deals water pressure damage of 1d6 points per minute for every 100 feet the character is below the surface. A successful Fortitude save (DC 15, +1 for each previous check) means the diver takes no damage in that minute. Very cold water deals 1d6 points of nonlethal damage from hypothermia per minute of exposure."

Again, nothing is happening to the lake. There is just a hole. Also I am assuming we have lost Tom at this point, and little news from Albert and Kite for a bit if I'm not mistaken. I'll do a "Alright who's still alive?" when this challenge is over and you see your surprise.

Tatsuo Kasai "Simeon Gaijin" wrote:

Simeon swims into the hole of the chasm as far down as he can go.

I can get upto 690ft down before I need to go back. How far down is the hole?

Yeah with 690 ft you're fine. What about pressure though?

After going down for 100 ft. or so, you feel the onset of the water pressure. Oddly enough, the passageway at this depth seems to be slightly luminescent and if you care to investigate you'd find strange little sea worms emitting light all around the tunnel walls.

However, you still cannot see the end of the chasm. This is certainly an unnatural discovery.

Are people not ok with this dojo fighting? I'm rather happy everyone is capable of keeping themselves busy during downtime!

The lake is not draining indeed. I took into account the light spell don't worry, he wouldn't have seen anything in the murkiness otherwise. Let's just say unless he goes inside the hole himself we won't be seeing the end of the chasm.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Simeon dives into the lake. The rain drums upon the waves above, causing a rippling effect throughout the water.

As he slowly descends past the shipwrecks into the center of the lake, he notices the lakebed is blackened and burnt.

Suddenly, the lakebed gives way and recedes downwards... descending into a spiraling chasm some twenty feet wide... and who knows how deep. No light shines from within. This chasm entrance lies some 20 feet beneath the lake's center.

As mentioned, I am on an iPad and I shall wait to be home to answer all the questions and advance the storyline. For now, these are the questions I will be answering quickly.

1. Presence of human corpses? No
2. Was the roof waterproofed enough? Yes
3. Which building is the largest? the communal building
4. Is food and water an issue? No
5. Piecemeal armour? Allowed and I will have a larger explanation on the allowed time to craft some.
6. What does simeon see as he explores the lake? A larger explanation will be required.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Let us all assume that you can have taken any action within the year that fits. So yes, assume you had a year of crafting if you so require.

I am also on my iPad at the moment so I'll be updating the major gameplay post tonight.

Day 2

Wrap up of Day 1:

Your actions have largely rendered the village surroundings safe and secure. From removing dead animals to repairing parts of the buildings, you are well on your way to restoring this area.

Investigations have proved that the settlement was razed to the ground. Significant fire damage to buildings, scuttling of the ships and frightened domestic animals hiding in the forest.

The surrounding forest is deemed safe as well aside from wandering wildlife. You easily can find plants: both wild and crops.

However, no footprints can be found or signs of humans having been the source of the attack.

The night goes by equally well.

The morning comes around and with it comes torrential rain and heavy fog. Depending on where you slept feel free to decide you may be in various states of sodden.

The weather will make things quite difficult today but there is a lot that can still be done.

After reading through the commentary and discussion on various rulings, I just want to state that Mhar did indeed mention his piecemeal armor and I allowed it. And yes, by paizo I mean Pathfinder content only. Don't go applying the kaiju template to yourself.

When it comes down to rulings, this campaign was originally only meant to be 4-6 players but I was very pleased with almost all of the submissions so I went ahead and made this monstrosity.

That means that somewhere along the lines, I hope you realize that I cannot micromanage every character sheet and option. In fact, your characters were chosen based on your interactions in the Recruitment and your character backgrounds/ideas. I gave each character a cursory check but I don't deconstruct and check for every point.

This is not a campaign where power gaming is in any form rewarded and I hope everyone will play interesting characters and use their abilities in intuitive ways while sticking to the rules. We have a good team here, and a lot of people probably know the Pathfinder RAW much better than me but my main objective is for everyone to have fun.

I do not mind you going over each other's sheets but let's keep the page long discussions to a minimum. If you notice a discrepancy, feel free to write a spoiler for that player and then if it seems the issue may take longer, please PM them, or me if the issue cannot be resolved.

On that note, I apologize for my 48h lack of posting, I have been very busy these past days.

Now, off to start Day 2.

Just landed from my flight and now am suffering from jet laggishness. Feel free to carry on RPing, I promise a nice long start of Day 2 in the morning! Sorry again for the delays!

And bit by bit, this is becoming Camp Kotei and friends.

Perfect! I've looked through everyone's posts and here's the rundown.

Braeth: Foraging for food, wood and lumber for reconstruction and survival purposes.

Mhar: Conducts funerary services as well as casting mending and purify to repair and restore the already available materials and resources.

Thorrpe: Sends Shadow out to scout the surrounding region.

Zayne: Aid in gathering firewood and then proceeds to working on structural repairs as well as beginning work on fortifications or defenses.

Jezelyn: Detects magic around the town (but no luck) and then aids in foraging.

Raitoningu: Aided by Thorrpe, the duo clear out the well of the unfortunate dead animal cadavers.

Vem: Immediately demands much of others (*wink*) then debates turning the animal corpses into fertilizer.(*shudder*) She also makes lovely decorations around the remaining doorways and windows.

Ysanne: Discusses potentiality of a camouflaged settlement as well as searching for forgotten or abandoned items.

Cookie: Inspects the local wildlife to recover plants which can be grown and plants which can be gathered.

Jian Min: (This is quite a lot, so I'll have this be conducted over a few days) Surveys the territory, sketches a map, corals a few animals that had escaped into a makeshift pen and begins assessing the shipwrecks after having foraged for any remaining items.

Tatsuo: Scouts with Braeth, and communes with nature.

Albert: Goes item hunting as well.

===

I have not heard from Tommar or Kite I believe.

If there is anything I missed please let me know before I write up the summary of day 1 and move on to day 2.

Raitoningu Burēdo wrote:
@Spirit, are we healed and does the monastery have non-lethal damage or mercy weapons to practice with?

Yes and yes

Extra info: The buildings are in ruins, the place is ovverun with weeds, the lake has two small fishing wrecks, there are wild animals roaming around, the well has something dead inside it, there are no more fields to grow food and etc.

2nd Day of Training - Late Spring
Time Passed Since Awakening: 2 Months

You have all been once again gathered for another collective training. Again, Shen Fei will be your instructor. This time around you find yourselves gathered outside the ruins of an abandoned village.

"Welcome back students. I would love to say that you find yourselves at another training involving a brilliant twist. This is not the case. Before you stand the ruins of Jialong, once a quiet fishing thorpe. Today is less of a training then a chance for me to glimpse at your method of thinking and each of your personal aptitudes."

"The Path would dearly love to restore this settlement, it being quite secluded and close to a lake. In fact, we mean to grant this place to you as your new home."

"The ruins consist of four buildings. Two I seem to recall were homes, one was a former communal building and the other served as a smokehouse for the small fishing boats which you can see wrecked near the docks. I will leave and return three days later. By that time, I want to see what you have accomplished here."

With a bow and no further explanations, he departs.

===

No skill checks or rolls of any kind are needed. Simply state what you do on the first day (for now. We'll reach day 2 and 3 later) to restore the town. You do need to prove that you'd have the skill, ability or resources capable of doing such an action. Assume you can take 10 or 20 on any roll you would need to. The objective is to discover your character's non-combative resources and see to getting some teamwork going between some of the characters not normally together. This latter part will come in handy in a few days.
