All righty, good to see everyone, need a quick sound off to make sure we're all here and then I'll be doing a final check/rundown to make sure your characters are all sorted. One last thing, would everyone mind putting their saves, initiative, AC, and a current and total HP in their class and level section to make it easily accessible?

Checking in, and happy to be here. Some familiar faces here, as well. I can see some good role-playing opportunities already.
I also meant to see if I wanted to swap out Antagonize for something different, if it's not too late for that. I also need to pick a third trait, and make sure my stats spoiler is up-to-date.
Also, expect a PM shortly regarding something else I need to sort out.

Jens Varmodsson |

PM sent, and made a couple of tiny changes. Hope it's alright. Should be good to go now.
I'm at my partner's for the weekend, but I'll have my tablet with me, so I should still be able to post if we start soon.

Even taking the middle-aged ability score adjustments into account? ;-)
EDIT: Sorry if that was too cheeky. I figured if I'm playing a character who's 45, it would only be fair to have the appropriate ability score adjustments. If you'd prefer, I can remove the adjustment and alter the point-buy accordingly.

Jens Varmodsson |

I'll have a look, see how it alters the point-buy if I remove the adjustment. It might work out better, and I can just keep the age as a number without any changes.

Elsbeth Tanner |

Present and accounted for.
Just need to download the Player's Guide to get hold of my campaign trait, then I think I'm set.
BTW, I wrote my AC as "without shield (with shield)" so that both numbers could be easily referenced, since I use a quickdraw shield so that I can adapt to the needs of the fight at hand. Does that work okay?

I just realized Izah should have a fourth trait since I took the "power hungry" drawback. I believe I will add Contract Master as it is very thematically fitting, if that is alright.
I will add in my stat line to my profile now.

Elsbeth Tanner |

Would it be alright if I took the Touched by Divinity trait? The Player's Guide suggests limiting repeats on campaign traits, though it says it might be alright if PCs who share that trait pick the same deity. Coincidentally, Aaliyah and I are both followers of Sarenrae, so will that be okay?
EDIT: Ninja'd. I see Izah also has Touched by Divinity, and with a different deity. I guess that means it's fine? I'll go ahead and record it and then change it if I need to. :)

Elsbeth Tanner |

Elsbeth, where is the Tactical Opportunist fighter archetype from? I think that's the first time I've encountered one that I hadn't heard of before!
It's from issue 31 of Pathways, a free PDF magazine. Having designed the archetype and associated feats myself, I just couldn't pass up the chance to play it for the first time. :D

Elsbeth Tanner |

Also, I would find it hilarious if Izah wasn't really touched by Asmodeus and it winds up being Sarenrae and blows his damn mind.
That would be hilarious.
Also, I just read your description of your "evilness" in the recruitment thread. You should read my character profile; this will be... interesting. ;)

Ooohhh bad DM! Bad! I didn't even notice that I had two touched by divinities, but I think I can manage it. Three's a bit much though, did anything else catch your eye Elsbeth?
And I'm sorry Izah but I don't use drawbacks. Roleplaying being power-hungry is enough without a mechanical shortfall for it. (Particularly in this campaign)

Elsbeth Tanner |

Okay, so our party consists of:
Aaliyah, a NG, spinning, magical scimitar girl of the human variety.
Michael, a LG permastubble paladin of the aasimar variety.
Jens, a NG, beefy, mounted, viking grampa of the human variety.
Elsbeth (me!), a NG, why-aren't-you-a-magus fighter of the human variety.
Izah, a LE, neutral-in-leather-pants pyromancer of the ifrit variety.
Nice to meet everyone! Looking forward to having some fun here. :)

Child of the Crusades would be my next pick, but Michael already has that one. If that's not doable, then Chance Encounter probably comes in third, mostly due to curiosity of what happens when it comes up in the story later. Let me know which would work best for you.

Ahh, that works fine then! I'll re-adjust his traits to remove Contract Master.

Either one works ok, if you go with Child of the Crusades then you and Michael will be related, however distantly.

...*Wince* Yeah, I've been thinking from a certain perspective the Touched by Divinity thing might be too specific but I can't really think of anything short of divine direction that could get a Katapeshi slave to go off to the crusades. And when it's combined with that Paladin-like rider on the archetype...

Jens Varmodsson |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

"Beefy, mounted, Viking grandpa". That's how I'm always going to refer to Jens from now on. That's perfect. :D

Jens Varmodsson |

If I can ignore the age penalties and tweak my point buy, I can boost Constitution to 14 instead of 13. That works a bit better if Jens is going to be the tank (and really, that's kind of what I built him for). If you give that the go-ahead, I'll update the profile.

Jens Varmodsson |

And done. One more hit point and a slightly better Fortitude save. Ready and waiting.

Whoops, I never took Izah's first level oracle revelation!
I chose Heat Aura
Heat Aura (Su): As a swift action, you can cause waves of heat to radiate from your body. This heat deals 1d4 points of fire damage per two oracle levels (minimum 1d4) to all creatures within 10 feet. A Reflex save halves the damage. In addition, your form wavers and blurs, granting you 20% concealment until your next turn. You can use this ability once per day, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and every five levels thereafter.

Jens Varmodsson |

"Diplomacy? Bah! There's no problem a stern glare and a good beating can't solve. You and me, Elsbeth, we'll just sit back and watch. Their pretty words will fail soon enough, and then it'll be our job to save them..."

DM DragonSon |

Since our first combat is coming up I figured I'd go into our combat etiquette. I generally roll initiative for the party, which breaks initiative into simple blocks. Those before the enemy, the enemy, and those after the enemy. Within your own block you're allowed to take your turn at any time, no need to wait for initiative. Actions are described however you like in character, then comes an out of character description of your actions along with the die rolls. Here's an example from another game I'm in.
Kart freezes up as he sees the Dretches. He recalls almost a year of bed rest, of being fed like a child, of angry nights and resentful days. He recalls the dretch that caused it, laughing over his helpless form, only visible through a veil of tears as the demon prepared to strike, before being ripped in half by the Wolf That Shines Like Stars. Then he focused, took his first stance, his feet sliding into position a little wider than his shoulders, back foot held perpendicular to the front, knees bent, pommel lightly held in front of the hip joint, one hand near the pommel, the other holding the leather wrapped unsharpened edge of the claymore, just over the guard. Blade forward, and just a bit high. The position his ancestors had called The Plow. Kart's training took over and his fears flowed away. His companions had already struck, and the demons still stood, it was time to do what was necessary. He stepped forward, lead foot striking down with a bang like a drum as the blade moved forward and down.
"For Sarkoris!"
