Little is known of the history of the first human civilization, other than the sad story of its destruction. Myths tell of an ancient war between the Azlanti and a race known as the serpentfolk. The Azlanti are said to have driven their enemies off the face of Golarion and into the Darklands. In the war's final battle, Savith, an Azlanti hero beheaded the serpent god Ydersius in the Darklands realm of Sekamina. It is also rumored that exiles of Azlant founded the empire of Thassilon. Whatever the truth of that Myth, recent rumors of the discovery of a "Lost Island" in the Arcadian Ocean fuel rumors that Azlant has been re-discovered...

Prologue Illena Merriweather:
Teacher, Scholar, and now Archaeologist!

Illena's pulse begins to pound as she arrives at Absolom, to a little person like her the city seems so big but she knows that with Ailson's mentoring, she has a personality big enough to tackle it.

Good thing, that trip to Almas in Andoran was a disaster. Just mentioning interest in the Pathfinder Society even though you are not a member, formality, got you kicked out of the running straight away. You watched the Liberty’s Herald sail out from the docks!

A trip to the Almas Pathfinder Lodge and Ailson's name drop got you the information you needed from Venture Captain Brackett. He suggested that you visit Absolom if you wished to be on the next ship set to sail, the Peregrine.

The Grand Lodge is a massive fortress, easily one of the biggest privately owned strongholds in the city. Established 400 years ago, it contains extensive grounds surrounded by a tall stone wall with a single, huge main gate (which is very rarely closed, and is decorated with the Gylph of the Open Road), many yards and outbuildings, and a series of Major Halls. It sits in front of one of the larger plazas in the Foreign District, ringed with shops that cater to adventurers of all stripes. The wall encircles seven sturdy stone fortresses of different architectural periods, the largest of which—Skyreach—is an enormous, white, five-towered palace that stretches high above the others structures and the surrounding city.

You enter the side gate as you were instructed to do by Venture Captain Brackett. As you enter there are several dozen agents already here! Kreighton Shaine, Master of Scrolls, is standing at a makeshift podium in the Courtyard and appears to be meeting with those assembled and jotting down notes. Though you've not met him in person before, he was described to you with stunning accuracy by Brackett. As you look around you do not see a soul you recognize here.

Prologue Jora Penn:
This was it, the chance she'd been waiting for since joining the Society.

All those side long looks from others once they learned her full name, Jora bore them with dignity. Now, if everything worked out, she'd not have to any longer.

Though Kreighton Shaine, Master of Scrolls, informed her that the Andoran's were banning all Pathfinder Society members from the trip, the Decemvirate was going to get its agents on board no matter what. Your sentiments exactly, you are getting on this Expedition, no matter what.

As you head down from the inner grounds of the Lodge to the outer grounds, you see there are several dozen agents already here! It's no surprise to you, this trip is once in several lifetimes and many want to get on board. To do so of course, you'll need to sign up at the makeshift podium Kreighton has set up in the Courtyard just inside the inner side door to the Lodge from the Foreign Quarter.

Prologue Jeanuel Azmeren:
Finally one night Jeanuel found not a note but a lockbox. He opened it and inside was her wayfinder with a simple note. "Make me proud".

Alongside the note was a letter from Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin himself requesting her presence in Absolom. Then another letter with the instructions, "Jeanuel, hand this to Ambrus when you see him at the Grand Lodge".

The last thing inside the box was enough coin to reach Absolom and perhaps have a few decent meals and beds along the way.

Your pulse begins to pound as you arrive at Absolom. The Pathfinder Society is easy enough to ferret out here.

Soon enough you approach the Grand Lodge a massive fortress, easily one of the biggest privately owned strongholds in the city.

You enter the side gate as you were instructed to do by one of the locals. As you enter there are several dozen agents already here! An elf is standing at a makeshift podium in the Courtyard and appears to be meeting with those assembled and jotting down notes. As you look around you do not see a soul you recognize here.

You wonder if the man at the podium could possibly be Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin".

Prologue Arken Wazyr:
Venture-Captain Eliza Petulengro, assured you back in the Woodsedge Lodge in southern Galt that the directions she gave you to the Foreign Quarter and the Captain of the ship she recommended would lead to a fortuitous trip. She was not wrong.

Looming before you is the the Grand Lodge of Absolom. A massive fortress, easily one of the biggest privately owned strongholds in the city. Established 400 years ago, it contains extensive grounds surrounded by a tall stone wall with a single, huge main gate (which is very rarely closed, and is decorated with the Gylph of the Open Road), many yards and outbuildings, and a series of Major Halls. The wall encircles seven sturdy stone fortresses of different architectural periods, the largest of which—Skyreach—is an enormous, white, five-towered palace that stretches high above the others structures and the surrounding city.

You enter the side gate as you were instructed to do by Venture Captain Petulengro. As you enter there are several dozen agents already here! Kreighton Shaine, Master of Scrolls, is standing at a makeshift podium in the Courtyard and appears to be meeting with those assembled and jotting down notes. Though you've not met him in person before, he was described to you with stunning accuracy by Petulengro. As you look around you do not see a soul you recognize here.

Still, you believe your accomplishments, limited as they may be, will prevail to earn you a spot on the trip to Azlant! All you need to do, is get your name on those rolls.

Prologue Aleasia:
This was it, the chance she'd been waiting for since joining the Society. Trained by one of their best, Aleasia knew she would excel in all she did. They knew it too, there was no doubt in her mind she'd be on that boat.

To do so of course, you'll need to sign up at the makeshift podium Kreighton has set up in the Courtyard just inside the inner side door to the Lodge from the Foreign Quarter.

Kesari, Jora & Aleasia, note that you are both residents of the Grand Lodge and will know of one another though you may never have been formally introduced to one another. Make Knowledge Local rolls DC of 15 to know something about one another.

Prologue Kesari of Bandarom:
This was it, the chance she'd been waiting for since joining the Society. Though you'd failed to gain entrance to the prestigious Monastery of Unfolding Wind, this is a task you will not fail.

Though Kreighton Shaine, Master of Scrolls, informed Kesari that the Andoran's were banning all Pathfinder Society members from the trip, the Decemvirate was going to get its agents on board no matter what. Your sentiments exactly, you are getting on this Expedition, no matter what.

As you head down from the inner grounds of the Lodge to the outer grounds, you see there are several dozen agents already here! To do so of course, you'll need to sign up at the makeshift podium Kreighton has set up in the Courtyard just inside the inner side door to the Lodge from the Foreign Quarter.

No doubt Dreng put the good word in for you, ever since you have taken to drinking with him at the Wounded Wisp, well he drinks and you watch at any rate, it is clear that he has taken a liking to you and has supported your career since your arrival here from the Monastery of the White Crane.

Prologue Xarann Imbros:
You stand next to Drendle Dreng in Skyreach, the enormous, white, five-towered palace that stretches high above the others structures and the surrounding city and is the largest by far within the complex that makes up the Grand Lodge, watching through a stained glass window depicting Old Man Jatambe's accomplishments in the Mwangi Expanse.

"This is what I spent the last two decades waiting, no hoping for. The chance to reach Azlant with actual support and the Godsdamned Andorans have cut us out!

Not to worry my boy, the Decemvirate have a plan to put Society Members on the next ship, Peregrine. That is what all the activity down below is about. Once more not to worry, though they are taking applications to select only a handful of Society Members to infiltrate this next journey, the Decemvirate already selected you to go. Still, you'll need something to aid you. You do stand up enough to cause a panic in the best of circumstances.

Here, take my hat. Keep away from real fights till you hit shore and begin to explore. By then, you'll prove your worth as you've proved it to us and they'll not ostracize you just by virtue of what you are.

Only the Decemvirate and I know of this plan to get you away from your former Master. I fear there is no much more to say beyond that..."

First treasure goes to Xarann you obtain a Hat of Disguise! I was thinking of cheesy 80's RPG quest success music as I typed this FYI...

Prologue Kesari:
Kesari woke at dawn. As was his custom, he meditated on the mysteries of the multiverse. He found it difficult to clear his mind this morning, for today was no ordinary day.

Today was the day to put in his name for the mission to the new colony of Talmandor’s Bounty. The colony was on an island that was originally part of the lost continent of Azlant, before a disaster millennia ago had destroyed it. The Pathfinder Society had been explicitly denied access to the colony, but the Society wasn't about to accept missing out on a chance to explore Azlanti ruins. Selected Pathfinder agents were going to infiltrate the expedition, discover lost Azlanti lore, and report back to the Society.

Exploring new lands and recovering lost knowledge: that had been Kesari's dream since he was a young vanara. He had listened intently to his mother's stories about the exploits of his ancestor Angada, who had traveled with the legendary Pathfinder Selmius Foster. When he was a teenager, his grandfather Nala had returned to his village, having retired from his career as a Pathfinder agent. The elderly vanara had taught Kesari martial arts, and encouraged him to follow in the ancient family tradition. After leaving his home, and undergoing years of training, he was now officially a Pathfinder agent, and this was his chance!

After half an hour of halfhearted meditation, he rose and began his exercises, practicing martial arts and acrobatics. The physical activity helped calm his mind and focus his attention.

After breakfast, he went down to the outer grounds of the lodge, and joined the line of people waiting to sign up at the podium. He waited patiently (and nervously) for his turn, all the while looking around to see who else was here.

Prologue:
Xarann turns the hat over in his hands, the porcelain flesh of one still clad in the steel gauntlet. "You don't think I'll win them over with my sheer charisma, huh?" One of his black eyebrows arches up at the joke. "I suppose if there's anywhere Ilnerik can't find me, it's Azlant, right? Even if he knows I'm there, there's a lot of caves for him to poke his ugly little nose into." Xarann slowly pops the hat onto his head and watches with amusement as the illusion covers him; his pale white flesh takes on a tanned hue and his eyes transform to a normal color, his matching pair of red horns now obscured by magic. "So, when does the boat leave? When do I need to be ready?"

Personally, my sensibilities skewed about a decade later.

Prologue:
Although the trip to Absalom was a lengthy one, it was an informative one - he met some interesting people on his way here. And the Absalom itself is something that every Pathfinder should visit at some point of their life - a grand city, always restless and where someone constantly is busy doing something.

And now he is finally here. The place where his story will truly begin. Every choice and every decision he made, they all were for this. For becoming a part of something greater. For continuing the legacy.

So many agents! Well, that's not a surprise. It's one in a lifetime opportunity. While he thinks that, Arken walks to the podium with confidence and firm intention of becoming a part of this expedition. Some of them will be my companions. I'd better take a good look.

F Aquatic Elf Rogue 1

Prologue:

Yawns as she rolls out of bed. She stretches, brushing her sea colored hair back into a braid, before she gets dressed. Aleasia was prepared, excited for the chance to explore Azlanti, maybe even find some lost colonies. She lingers with her fingers in the water basin, excited for the chance to swim and be near cleaner waters. She left from her small enclave, wishing well to some of her fellow flatmates as she passed them by.
After talking with those gathered, she goes and fills out the forms needed, noting that a few of the names she knew. Kesari was the only one that seemed to have been filled out recently though. She had never met the vanarian in person, she knew him to be a monk of some small fame. I hope we both get in. Be nice to fight along side people I know are capable of defending themselves. She then goes and wanders out amongst the other agents, chatting and comparing notes, and listening to the stories some of the elder ones told, including stories of rogues who would just vanish in combat only to reappear and shred their opponent apart.

Prologue:
Hard as she tried to hide it, Jora was practically buzzing with restless excitement. The Grand Lodge had impressive facilities to be certain, but nothing could match the feeling of delving into the unknown, stepping where no one else had stepped in a thousand years.

Going to a remote island where no one had ever heard the name Dalania Pontious was just a bonus.

As she makes her way through the crowd, she measures up the agents around her. The competition, she thinks. They'll definitely want someone who can swim as well as I can though. As long as I don't lose my spot to the elf with gills, I should make it. She is a little relieved that she isn't the strangest one around though. It wasn't as much of an issue in Absalom, but she was pretty sick of all the small town fisherman she met along the way who asked her if she granted wishes.

When she finally made it to the podium, she began to sign her name, but her hand froze. She stared down at the Jora P on the paper in front of her, a faint blush rising to her cheeks. If she'd learned who her ancestor was early on, quietly reading to herself in the library, it likely would have been bearable. But for how many days had she declared, loudly and proudly, "My name is Jora Pontious, descendant of a great Pathfinder!" until someone told her.

She'd been standing at the podium for too long already. She could feel the eyes on her back. She hastily scribbled the rest of a name and moved on. One day, she would be famous enough to be the only Pontious who mattered. The only one people thought of when they heard the name. Until then, Jora Penn would do.

Half-elf sorcerer (crossblooded, wildblooded) 1 Init +3| Perception +5 | HP 9/9| AC 13/13T/10FL| Fort 2/Ref 3/Will -1| Jeanuel minus the Red Hair

Prologue:

Jeanuel looked over the first letter several times. It had been years that he had been trying to become her apprentice and then she just handed him her wayfinder and gave him a note basically saying "You're going in my place, you're a pathfinder now."

After five or so minutes he literally screamed in frustration at no one in particular. All these years of trying to get her approval and he was really being trained the entire time as a Pathfinder. His sister was infuriating to say the least but that anger subsided after a short period of time. All the effort, all the work, all the studying had finally paid off. He was a Pathfinder now, and he was going on his big adventure.

He wasn't sure exactly what he was representing her for, he assumed another trek into the Dark Lands. It wasn't as if he had not brushed up on the subject just purely out of curiosity and to better understand his own sister's travels but still he had hoped for something more interesting and not actually trekked upon yet. He sighed and gathered his things and set up with a caravan going the same way. It was the easiest way to travel and you could earn coin along the way to help pay for expenses, something that would hopefully afford him a few guilty pleasures along the way instead of just a hot meal and a bed from time to time.

When he arrived he didn't bother to look anywhere else but the biggest building, knowing from many texts that this could only be the Grand Lodge, a place he had dreamed of visiting one day. He steeled his nerves and stepped into the building expecting, well he wasn't sure what he was expecting but certainly not the few dozen people milling about in a crowd before a speaker. He shook his head a bit and stepped off to the side and squeezed his way up towards the podium, at the very least assuming this man could guide him to the person he was seeking. "Excuse me, I'm here to meet Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin. If you are not him, could you please tell me where to find him. I come bearing a letter from my sister, Koriah Azmeren, for him." he said as cordially as he could.

Prologue:
Illena stands in the courtyard of the Grand Lodge, watching the other members for a few moments to try and best gauge the appropriate way to act. Frowning at herself, she casts those thoughts aside. "This is not a place to be worried about being proper." She scolds herself. "You must act your new role."

Nodding to herself, she walks towards Kreighton Shaine, first attempting to feign a swagger, before realising no one is looking anyway, and abandoning the silly plan to simply walk as she usually would. She gives a short bow as she approaches, "Master Shaine, I presume? My name is Illena Merriweather, I'd like to join the Peregrine" Taking care to keep the Pathfinder Society out of her introduction this time, she flashes a nervous but still quite warm smile.

Absolom - the Grand Lodge

One by one as you all approach, you quickly discover that everyone here is trying to get selected by the Society to get onto that Expedition, the catch, there's only seven slots...

---

Prologue Illena Merriweather:
Shaine turns an eye towards you and grins, "So would everyone else here my dear. Not to worry, the Decemvirate assures me that the covers they have created will most certainly be accepted onto the Ship. First of course, you must convince me that you are one of the Pathfinders that deserves to be on board.

Interviews will begin at noon promptly, feel free to mingle and take in food and drink in the meantime. Head into Skyreach for it. Next!"

Prologue Jora Penn:
As you scribble your name on the roll you hear a whisper in your ear, "Ms. Pontious. I wish you good luck..." You could swear it came from Shaine but his lips didn't move, did they?

He smiles at you warmly, "Please move along Ms. P, there is a long line behind you yet..."

Prologue Jeanuel Azmeren:
The man holds out his hand, "Finally someone here on some business besides this Expedition. I fear that the Venture Captain is indisposed at the moment. I am Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine. If your letter is from Koriah, I'd like to see it". Though he is a willowy elf he speaks with an air of authority.

Prologue Arken Wazyr:
Shaine looks to you and smiles, "You there, if you want to sign up, I'll need your name!"

Prologue Aleasia:
Shaine turns to you as the crowd brings you ever closer to the podium, "I know you intend to sign up. Shall I write down your name on my list or am I presuming too much Aleasia?"

Prologue Kesari of Bandarom:
Shaine turns to you as the crowd brings you ever closer to the podium, "I know you intend to sign up. Shall I write down your name on my list or am I presuming too much Kesari?"

Besides Jora and Aleasia who you know, you see a few familiar faces applying; Arnistolientar Popswicker the famous Delver is here, Akmanya the Savant of Desna has also signed up, Torga Stigardsdam the dwarven ranger student of war looks formidable as well, on a surprise bid Aram bin Kaleel is also here would the inquisitor of Sarenrae really shut his own shop to go? These four are certainly guaranteed spots, aren't they?

Prologue Xarann Imbros:
Drendle Dreng smiles, "Relax. The interviews will be over tonight. The next day the ship bound for Almas will leave and you'll be on it. In disguise. Each Member selected will have a cover identity which through the Interview process in Andoran should ensure that you are selected to be included on the next ship". He does not even address the Ilnerik issue.

"It may make sense for you to at least mingle with the others below in your disguise, unless you'd rather stay here with me".

---

Once sign ups are complete Kreighton Shaine makes an announcement, "If I did not mention it, there will be separate interviews. Not only for us to verify membership, though I am sure you are all on the rolls. Your performance on this interview will give us an indication of how well you do on the next, the one you'll need to pass to get on board the Peregrine. There is food and drink at the Great Hall in Skyreach, we will begin promptly at noon, in alphabetical order".

As the initial sign ups are completed, the mass of potential crewmen (and crew-women) head towards Skyreach.

Feel free to interact now with each other or NPC's after your initial responses to the Master of Scrolls.

Prologue:
"Yes please, Sir!" Kesari replied. "It looks like the competition is pretty intense," he said, looking around nervously. There's so many! How much of a chance do I have, with all these applicants?

Jora and Aleasia:
Kesari nodded to Jora and Aleasia. "You're signing up too, eh? There sure are a lot of others doing the same thing! What sort of questions do you think they're going to ask in the interview?"

Prologue:
"I'm not much one for pleasantries, you know that. Maybe I'll be a bit better without people gawking at the horns and the eyes and all that, but somehow I doubt it. I used to be told I was... abrasive? I think that's the word." Xarann stretches out his now tanned limbs and cracks his neck. "I guess I should venture down there, even if you've already secured a spot. Gotta keep up appearances, right? I'll see if I can't make small talk."

Down amongst the others, Xarann still stands out among the crowd—however perhaps not as much as before—with his towering height and impressive physique. He mills through the others and looks around, hoping perhaps to find someone to speak to while he waits to be brought in.

Prologue:
Jora nods, a bit surprised by the words of encouragement. "Thank you, Master Shaine," she says quickly before rejoining the crowd.

Kesari and Aleasia:
"There is quite a bit of competition," Jora agrees. "I don't think the actual questions in the interview will matter. The true purpose is probably to make sure we can stick to a cover story, and keep cool under pressure. Most of us should be fine." What she really meant was 'I will be fine' but didn't want to sound overly confident.

Prologue:
"Of course! Arken Wazyr, at your service."

As they head toward the Skyreach, Arken looks around, interested in the folk who wants to go on an expedition. One person in particular caught his eye - a massive human in a hat, who also looks around. Xarann.

"Hey there! Came to join the expedition too?" asks the plumekith and immediately waves his hand. "Stupid question, of course you are. Name's Arken, nice to meet you."

He extends his hand.

Jora and Aleasia:
"Yes, they ought to know our overall skills and abilities pretty well by now," Kesari replied. He looked at the throng of applicants heading to Skyreach. "We'd better get to the Great Hall, or there'll be nothing left for us!"

Xarann stares at Arken's outstretched hand for a moment, then takes it in his own massive hand. "Yes, here to join the expedition. Or try to, at any rate. I'm hoping they might see fit to have some more... able-bodied individuals on board their vessel. One look at me and their colonists are already safer, yes?" Xarann hesitates to grin for a moment, until he remembers the disguise has masked his pointed teeth. "I'm sure that will count for something, wouldn't you say?"

Laughs softly at the two she knew, and shook her head " I think if we all get picked, it will be because we know someone on the inside a bit more than the others, would you not agree? I think our places are however much more needed where there is food and drink, as both are welcomed news at this point. I would enjoy some good water..."

Jeanuel simply does as instructed. The man seemed of importance and given that he was only freshly initiated (if they'd even recognize it) he didn't wanna stir the pot. He simply stood there for a few minutes after handing the letter over to see if there might be a response the man would have.

After a few moments of hearing the gossip, he realized that this was actually an expedition of sorts being signed up. He went over to the roster and signed his name quickly after the Master of Scrolls was done with him.

"Can't argue with that." Arken looks up at Xarann and grins in return. "I already feel much safer. Surely the colonists will too."

"Still, that's a lot of competition. I wonder how many they will take?"

Illena nods and politely smiles at the master, even as she feels her heart drop into her stomach. Walking away from him she notices how many people are standing around, and if they were all here to try and prove their case... She sighs, unsure of what hope she has.

It's not a question of qualifications, she knows, it's about how you present yourself, and she's far from the bragging type. Besides, she thinks as her eyes pass over the crowd, any one of them could easily lie about their own abilities.

Pausing for a moment, she wonders what Ailson would do in this circumstance, before swatting the thought away. She reminds herself for what may be the thousandth time that she's not Ailson, and that she can do things her own way.

She begins walking towards Skyreach, ears open to those around her, trying to determine what skills the others have, and whether there may be a place for her yet.

"I don't really know, to be honest. We'll have to make it through the interviews first." Xarann leans away from the crowd, the big man finding it hard to keep his own space. "I'm not much for this kind of thing, though. Not usually very personable, you know. It's not a skill you need much, where I come from. From us Pathfinders though, I would guess not many of us will even get the chance to take our chances on getting onboard the expedition. You'll—" Xarann pauses for a minute, and shakes his head. "We'll need to our best, right? Nothing else to do. I'm sure we'll be alright."

"I'm sure you're water affinity will work in your favor, Jora; same with you, Aleasia," Kesari said. I sure hope Mr. Dreng put in a good word for me; I'm going to need all the help I can get.

Shrugs as they walk towards the mess hall. It would do to have a good full meal. She thinks on it a bit longer and says " I believe that will give us a leg up. I can for see there being underwater ruins to explore, and that means needing to be able to breathe."

Jeanuel Azmeren:
After you place your name in for contention, several minutes later a human female comes out to greet you. "Jeanuel Azmeren yes? Come with me, the Venture Captain will see you now".

You head into the massive citadel that is Skyreach and are led to what appears to be the top floor, or at least you are pretty high up. The woman opens a door and seated in a small library is a human male who you believe is the Venture Captain Ambrus Valsin. The man stands the letter you provided to the Master of Scrolls in his hand.

"Come in, sit down Mr. Azmeren. This letter you have provided to me is interesting and fortuitous at the same time. Yes, I do believe you arrived at the exact right time. Tell me, how is your sister?"

Absolom - the Grand Lodge
Xarann, Kesari, Aleasia, Arken, Jora, and Illena

One by one the Pathfinders are called in to complete the Interviews. As the Interviews are granted, those Pathfinders who have completed theirs drift away. Either into the Lodge proper or back out into the city to await word of selections.

The Test:
As your name is called, you enter a meeting room and find arrayed before you at the table the Leadership of the Society here at the Grand Lodge. Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin, Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine, Master of Spells Aram Zey, and Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus.

Ambrus motions to the lone empty seat across the table, "Please be seated. As you may be aware, the Society has been forbidden from sending any of its members upon this Expedition. The Decemvirate finds this position untenable and has created a series of false identities for our agents to infiltrate the next ship that will leave Andoran.

However, for those agents to be successful in their infiltration, they will need to be able to handle the interview process that will be final test being utilized by the Andorans in determining who has the appropriate skill set to be sent along to establish a new colony. Thus, we have created our own set of questions that will hopefully enable our members to "practice" for the actual interview and also allow us to ascertain who the most qualified candidates truly are".

Shaine speaks, "There will be several questions. We expect honest answers in this room. Remember though, it is vital that when delivering such answers during the true interview that your affiliations are not revealed else you will not be selected for the Expedition".

The four ask a series of rapid fire questions:

1. What kind of experience do you have studying objects and structures recovered by excavation to identify, date, and authenticate them and to interpret their significance?
2. What skills do you possess that would be an asset to a colony with no readily available resources?
3. Provide an example of a time when you successfully organized a diverse group of people to accomplish a task.
4. What experiences have you had surviving in tropical climates?
5. Share an experience you had in dealing with a difficult person and how you handled the situation.
6. Tell us how you organize, plan, and prioritize your work.
7. Name a time when you identified strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems. What was the impact that your insights had?
8. In your experience, what is the key to developing a good team?
9. How are you affiliated with the Pathfinder Society?
10. As you will NOT be able to answer the previous question truthfully in the interview at Almas, explain how and why you are qualified to be accepted on this Expedition for reasons that have nothing to do with your Society Affiliation.
11. Provide a time when you were able to identify a complex problem, evaluate the options, and implement a solution.
12. Finally, why do YOU want to be a part of this Expedition?

As you respond to the questions in turn, the Masters do not ask any follow ups though you can see some of them do indeed have them.

Aram closes the interview, "You have done well. This was a difficult task even for our more senior operatives. Gather here tomorrow morning at the same time as today and the final selections will be announced".

No one, not a single Member leaves that interview room feeling comfortable.

Free form RP, clearly not a problem for this group, can continue as you see fit post interview. Once all "candidates" have completed the Interview process, I will move forward to the next day.

Venture Captain meeting:

Jeanuel marveled a bit as he looked around the citadel as he is lead along till he reached the library. He paused for a bit when the man talked to him by name, it wasn't often someone addressed him in such a polite manner. After all, most of the people he'd been around were would be adventurers, his family, and drunks at the tavern.

He nodded and sat down as instructed "Ah, she is both mysterious, aggravating, and well. I'm not sure if that is good compared to normal but it's awfully infuriating." he said chuckling a bit. "I find it odd that the letter would bring you to ask for me. Don't tell me my sister dropped some menial task in my lap like take over keeping this library in order....though that would give me a lot of time to peruse and learn..." he said soon becoming distracted by his own thoughts.

The Test:
Jora sits across from the interviewers, doing her best to maintain the appropriate poise and decorum for an interview. She didn't want to look too prim and proper though - they wouldn't be looking for a Lady for the expedition. "I'm a diver by hobby. I search ship wrecks and other underwater salvage. It's difficult to search any real ruins without joining a properly financed expedition though. That's why I need to join this one."

"Besides that, I know my way around a ship," she added. She detailed her trip to Absalom, paying her way by working on fishing vessels. She took the liberty of embellishing a bit to make for better answers, but nothing too far from reality. It was mostly negotiating with captains, doing simple labor, and using some basic cantrips to help out around the ship, but she found ways to make it sound interesting. Between that, and her survival training, she was able to answer most of the questions easily enough.

"I've been studying Ancient Azlant for most of my life, but I'll never get satisfactory answers from libraries or third hand accounts. I need to see their civilization with my own eyes and find what they left behind. If you aren't going to get me there, I'll find my own way."

Jora leaves the interview feeling confident. She has no doubt that she deserves a spot on the expedition. It's just a matter of everyone else staying out of her way and letting it happen. She didn't go out of her way to look for any of the others, but wouldn't be opposed to making small talk if they found her.

The Test:
Arken answers the barrage of questions as best as he can.
"I took part in a couple of expeditions to search for some historical artifacts. Can't say I was the best member of this venture, but I did my part. I know a bit of everything - arcane runes, underground monsters, exotic plants, you just ask. That helps with examining what we find in ruins."

He describes his experiences of the few adventures and expeditions he was in. Especially the parts where they kept Arken on his feet during the whole time - be it a rival team, time-limit or dangerous beasts following the group. This part included answers to the most questions, as it dealt with problems, work, team and dealing with difficult persons. The last one actually an often occurence among adventurers and the like.

He feels confident that he is qualified to be accepted on this Expedition because he had various experiences in delving into ruins and cave systems.

As the last question is asked, Arken thinks for a moment. "Because this expedition is one in a million chance to study an ancient civilization. I'd be a fool not to seize a chance to become a part of history."

Arken leaves the room satisfied, and hangs around a bit for some time, before going back to his room in a nearby inn.

The Test:
Kesari tried his best in the interview, but he couldn't understand the intent of many of the questions. The best he could guess is that they were part of a dominance ritual meant to reinforce the superior status of the interviewers over the applicants.

He was pretty sure that his skills would be very useful for the expedition. After all, he had grown up in a tropical rainforest, and was used to living off the land. But maybe the idea of living in harmony with nature was too foreign to the humans organizing this undertaking, who seemed more intent on conquering the natural world. Maybe there was no place for a vanara on this mission.

Kesari left the meeting dejected, convinced that he had failed, and that his dream of exploring the secrets of Azlant were not to be.

F Aquatic Elf Rogue 1

The Test:
All the questions come fast and hard, catching her off guard somewhat. She stumbles over a few answers, mainly ones like how does she plan her time and such. However, she excels at the tropical one stating " I am an Aquatic Elf from around some tropical waters. My people have a rich history and knowledge base of it." After a bit and they reach the one about how does a good team work, she answers she pauses, before answering, " A good team is balanced, but each member know what their goal is. No one outshines the other unless that is the purpose of the team." After answering the final questions she would sigh softly, and thank them for their time.

Goes back to the food hall, catching a good bit of the tropical juice they had. She felt she needed it after the ringer she had just been through.

Jeanuel Azmeren:
Valsin chuckles, "Yes a menial task indeed. We are currently undertaking to send a few members of the Society onto a ship bound for the Ruins of Azlant surreptitiously. Your sister has asked me as a persona favor to select you for this task. Tell me, is that a task you believe worthy of your talents or is it too menial?"

Absolom - the Grand Lodge

As each of you finish your interviews it is hard to ascertain just how well you did as Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin simply states, "Thank you for your time. That will be all". His tone and the looks on the faces of the assembled Masters makes it clear they won;t be answering any questions today.

A sleepless night turns into an early, tired morning for most of you who are unsure whether or not you will be selected. The crowd is just as large for the selections as it was the prior day. Many veterans are all but being congratulated for their selection to represent the Society, albeit incognito, one one of the most important Expeditions to take place in the history of the Society!

Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine exits Skyreach and a hush falls over the assembled adventurers. He opens a scroll and begins reading with no fanfare, "Will the following Society members please proceed to the interview room within Skyreach where we tried your patience just yesterday...

Aleasia,
Arken Wazyr,
Jora Penn, and
Kesari of Bandarom.

There are still a handful more we may select. However, unforseen circumstances may cut the number of Society Members that we can reliably sneak into this trip.

Venture Captain Valsin thanks you for your interest and assure you that your next set of assignments shall be favorable".

The crowd murmurs as several unknowns are selected and no veterans of any kind it seems will be selected. Shaine turns on his heel not addressing any who approach him and heads back into Skyreach.

Many of your fellow Society Members clasp you on the back and offer well wishes but others you can see are jealous. None of that of course concerns any of you as you will soon be far away from anyone who would wish to escalate the matter above a cross eyed look.

You all once again find yourselves in the same room as yesterday before the same Leaders of the Society. This time though with you are a handful of others, some of whom you at least mingled with in passing the prior day.

Venture Captain Valsin speaks once everyone is settled, "Congratulations, You have all been selected for this very important endeavor, before we begin to brief you, do you have any questions for us?"

Jeanuel stared at the Venture Captain for a minute. This was...not expected. Not only was he being given a chance to join the expedition but his sister had asked it as a favor and the man was saying yes.

He shook his head a bit to clear the confusion from his mind, pulled out a bit of parchment and ink and a quill and began to write.

Azlanti:
"I, Jeanuel Azmeren, do humbly accept the offer. I will do my utmost to make sure that I am useful and not a detriment to both the Pathfinders and the expedition itself."

He slipped the bit of parchment to the Venture Captain and smiled most genuinely. "I feel that would suffice as answer enough, but I think that I can offer many assets to the group while offering little detriments. I thank you most humbly for the chance to join an expedition, it has been something I have been working towards for many years." he said bowing his head slightly to the man.

Jeanuel Azmeren:
The Venture Captain nods. "I'm afraid I can't make it quite that easy.

Later today, we are holding interviews. I'll need you to go through that process. Provided that your responses are not offensive to the Masters, I see no reason why I cannot push for you to be chosen. Agreed?"

Assuming You Agree:

Kesari couldn't believe his ears: he had been sure that he had failed the interview, yet his name had just been read out! In a daze, he walked back into the examination room, expecting to be tapped on the shoulder and told that there had been a mistake, but no such notice came.

No veteran Pathfinders had been selected at all, and somehow he, a complete rookie, seemed to be going. I suppose that the veterans might be too well known, and would draw attention to the attempt to infiltrate Pathfinders into the expedition.

Kesari wanted to know many things, but thought it best to wait to hear the briefing before posing any queries. With more information, he would be able to ask better questions.

Interview with a Pathfinder:
"I don't have any experience with studying object per say, but I spent a lot of time around individuals who had a strong interest in historical artifacts. I may not be a scholar, but I'm a quick learner. Under the tutelage of someone else, I could learn to identify artifacts easily enough. As for skills I already have, though?" Xarann grins, gesturing to his impressive physique. He pauses for a moment, realizing who he's speaking to. The grin fades from his face. "I can life a grown man from the ground with one arm. Imagine what I could move in a ruin? I can protect others from dangers both above and below the surface of Azlant. I learned to fight in Chelish underground fighting rings, and I'm still alive. That should say something, I think. I grew up a thief, so moving about unseen isn't off the table either." When they ask about organizing others, Xarann shrugs.

"I haven't. I'm not much of a leader of men. I'm not personable enough to have people follow me because I inspire them, and making people do what you want because they're afraid of you doesn't really work long-term. I work on my own, or I follow. I can strategize or plan with a leader, but I can't do it myself. It's just not what I do." Xarann raises an eyebrow about tropical climates. He shrugs again, and just looks around. He doesn't seem nervous, but the big man is on edge. "I've never been in one, but I grew up surviving on the streets of Westcrown. I can take care of myself, I'm not concerned about that."

"Just before I left Westcrown, I found myself in a... tenuous situation involving a powerful man in the city. He was grooming me for something, perhaps to take his place or to simply lower my guard. I'll never know. He collected a lot of old artifacts. I saw one, an old compass, and I stole it. I slipped away and barely escaped with my life, but I used that old compass to escape the city and live a new life. Turns out, that old compass was a Wayfinder. That's... all I want to say about that."

"I tackle the most pressing issue first. I take everything a step at a time, breaking down bigger problems into smaller ones. Anything can seem overwhelming if you look at the big picture. The minutae is where you need to work if you want to keep moving. I do that same thing to solve problems. You can't look at a problem as a whole. If you've got to deal with someone who could kill you with a glance, you don't fight them head on. You run, you go places they can't go... like a church, in my case. You exploit their weaknesses with your strengths. Simple."

"A good team makes use of everyone's strengths and minimizes weaknesses. More importantly though, they can't hate each other. No one works well with people they don't like, even if their skills go well together. You'll sabotage themselves to see the other person fail."

"After I stole a Wayfinder from an... ex-member of the Society, I was approached to become a field agent. They thought my skills were beneficial to the Society and that expanding on them would be worth my while. Otherwsie, though, I feel I'm suited to the expedition because I can keep others safe. I'm a warrior, even if someone tried to train me as a scholar. A wolf can't wear the wool of a sheep, his teeth will always be bloody. I can aid on expeditions but more importantly I provide an important level of security."

"Complex problems? Well, once I had to deal with a guard who was patrolling my route. He had it out for me and some of the others, and I knew he could call on help so there was no point in trying to deal with him myself. I couldn't fight him or I would be arrested and thrown in prison. Instead, I had to deal with him behind the scenes. Turns out, his wife was sleeping with a disgraced nobleman; someone I knew tipped him off to that information, and he killed the both of them in a passionate rage. Not the nicest way to deal with it, but it worked out."

"I want to go to Azlant because it's the farest place I can get from Westcrown as possible. No one else is there. I can get away from Ilnerik. He won't be able to follow me there, not without me knowing."

The Test:

Illena is late going into the test, having nearly walked out several times, thinking she was ill-suited to the tasks ahead, before forcing herself to calm down and at least go through the test. Whether or not she was meant for this was for others to decide, the most that was up to her was whether she had prepared enough.

She heads back in, and despite a pep-talk to herself, is quite antsy as Ambrus explains the test, finding herself to be exceptionally nervous when put on the spot in front of so many prestigious individuals. As the questions begin to flow, however, she becomes more and more comfortable, as saying her qualifications aloud makes her realise how much she actually is right for this expedition.

What kind of experience do you have studying objects and structures recovered by excavation to identify, date, and authenticate them and to interpret their significance?

"Well, I've been a historian, scholar, and professor for years. Part of my duties have been authenticating items that have been brought to the university. I've never been to a dig site before, myself... but, even so, I have uncovered some fraudulences before!"

What skills do you possess that would be an asset to a colony with no readily available resources?
What experiences have you had surviving in tropical climates?

Illena frowns at this. "...Little experience, but! I speak a variety of languages, I can tell you which plants are poison and which are safe to eat, which will cause rashes and which will close wounds. I can say the same for wildlife - though rarely will any of those creatures close wounds." She grins, but it quickly fades. "I'm passable with a sword, an experienced medic, and a cartographer. Oh, and I've studied Azlanti lore and history."

Provide an example of a time when you successfully organized a diverse group of people to accomplish a task.
Share an experience you had in dealing with a difficult person and how you handled the situation.
In your experience, what is the key to developing a good team?

Here Illena smiles outright. "Haven't you ever taught before? I can think of no more a diverse group than students who have come from all over for different reasons and with different intents. The key to organizing them is to make each feel valued. Roles within a team are important. Everyone has a share of responsibility - not so much to be crushing - but enough that they feel they have value." Illena goes off into a story about a particular student once, who'd only come to the school because his father wanted him to. He'd never felt like part of a team before, never been relied on, and though it was tough to get through to him, by the end of the semester he was closer to his classmates than he'd been with his family.

Finally, why do YOU want to be a part of this Expedition?

Illena choses her words carefully here, not wanting to seem too self-serving. "My... years so far have been in the pursuit of knowledge more than experience. I've studied and learned and taught, and in doing so, I've made the choice to put other things on hold. This is the furthest I've been from home in years...."

"You asked if I had experience surviving in tropical climates. I don't, but I want that experience. I want to see more of the world before us. I want to put my knowledge to use, to feel like what I've studied has put me in a place where I have value. I believe it does, I believe that I'd be an asset. But I still want to know for sure. And while I may return to teach for the remainder of my years, I want those memories, and I want the knowledge I can't get from a book, that when danger was at the gates, I knew what to do."

Jeanuel Agrees:

Jeanuel gave a simple nod before he was ushered out and soon found himself back out amongst the crowd. He wasn't sure how he felt at the moment, a favor had been called to bring him into this expedition that his sister had somehow known about, yet even his sister's accomplishments didn't guarantee it. He almost wanted to fail just to see his sister's face as she didn't get something her way...but then he'd not get his way and he was not willing to sacrifice that just to toy with her for a change.

He followed along into the interview room and was surprised by whom all he saw. He knew that the expedition was important but to warrant this much attention. And then the issue started to arise, the Pathfinders were unwanted in this and so they were interviewing in an attempt to sneak their team in.

He nodded simply to their explanation and began to answer in turn.

"While I can't say that I have had much field work at least with archeology, I have seen my fair share of trouble surrounding them and have prepared myself both mentally and physically for the troubles that may arise. I personally am quite fond of archaic languages, a bit of a hobby for me, so growing up I have spent a great deal of time in halls of learning. In doing so, I have spoken with and read many books on archeology in the hopes to one day do the very thing you speak of." he said to the first question before he was suddenly bombarded with another...and another until the interview was over.

"Despite being a man of learning, I have traveled extensively over the years. This has given me a very wide net of skills. I've worked a bit with animal traps, I've done some survival training such as living off the land, I have had some experience negotiating with natives and talking down explosive situations and dealt with unknown magical scrolls and devices a small bit. I do however know my limitations and know when to see guidance, a skill I am afraid most people falter with."

"I'm afraid most of my experience in directing a group of individuals derives from getting frustrated at libraries from their poor organization and the lack of respect some scholars seem to have for their materials. I have personally forced quite a few intellects into cleaning up their messes and bringing their libraries back to proper tidiness and order."

"Hmm, I can't say I've had much experience in surviving in tropical, though I have at least had plenty of experience surviving in cold climates and in woodlands. Given the severity of the two, I understand the worries a tropical climate may present and plan to do plenty of research on the topic while relying on the survival experts to help guide me."

"I spent many years dealing with a man who is a womanizer, a drunk, and a worldwalker. Considering that he is both alive and unscathed and we continue to speak to one another...well I can say that I should be fine with almost any type of person after all the nights and years I've spent in caravans and taverns."

"Typically, I figure out the problem, figure out the resources available (including people and their abilities), and figure out my desired result. From there I try to formulate a plan using the least resources to their fullest extent to get the desired result. If I feel I do not have the background to understand the problem fully, I happily consult with the most knowledgeable and formulate from there."

(I'm actually having a hard time trying to drum up an answer to number 8 >.< Apolgies, I don't think I'll do my character justice in answering this one.)

"Common ground and communication."

"My older half sister is one of the more famous Pathfinders and I am attempting to become as successful as her in my own rights."

"I think most of the previous questions show why I am capable enough and qualified enough to be a part of the expedition...but if it doesn't I'd be happy to write the minutes of the interview in Azlanti if that helps."

(Number 11 is also providing me with some issues as far as thinking is concerned and the semi sheltered life of his. I'm afraid I can't do it justice so I'll skip it for the sake of keeping the game moving >.<)

"Hmm, I suppose it's my curious nature. I've always been fascinated with ancient languages and the Azlanti mystery itself is something that is worth exploring. What little we've managed to uncover over the years has shown them to be both powerful and advanced compared to some of our own understandings...and I think if I could even grasp a small portion of their insight and their ability to influence the world and magic...then I think I could better myself and the world." he offered as it seemed the interview finally came to a close.

He stands up as he finishes and is informed that he the applicants will be chosen tomorrow. He bows politely, pushes his chair back into it's place and leaves the room to go find accommodations for the evening.

She's far too pleased with herself to allow anything so petty to mar her good day. She joined Kesari and Aleasia in the briefing room, a little surprised all three of them made it in, along with a blue haired man she didn't recognize.

"I have a question," Jora said, raising a hand to about shoulder height. "Why all the theatrics? I'm sure you had some criteria you were judging from. Most of the applicants outside never stood a chance to begin with. I'd wager you had your choices narrowed down to twenty or so before you ever even spoke to any of us. This isn't a criticism, but I'd like to know there was some purpose behind it."

Aleasia, Arken Wazyr, Jora Penn, and Kesari of Bandarom

Marcos nods, ”Indeed Ms. Penn, quite perceptive. However, we needed to get everyone here so they did not go to Almas! Those well-known would have blown our cover. Those ill spoken, would have done the same. Plus, we had to at least make it seem that there was a selection process. If not, what would have happened hey? Society Members leaving the Society in droves or trying desperately to get on board that ship because they’d feel cheated out of an opportunity to accomplish whatever dream or desire they had. Whether noble or selfish”.

The Venture Captain frowns a bit but proceeds with his statement, "You have all been selected not because of your skill but because of your obscurity. Your responses to our questions were full of jitters.

Our initial strategy was to provide you all with cover stories which you would utilize to get on board the ship. However, based upon your nerves at the questioning we have instead opted to send you as yourselves. Adventure seekers looking for glory or a new beginning of course you would be nervous.

Answer their questions the same way you answered ours and we have no doubt your enthusiasm will shine through. Jora and Arken, focus on your specialized knowledges that will benefit the Expedition. Kesari and Aleasia focus on your natural fit into the environment of the island.

In about an hour, a ship will set sail for Almas and you four will be on it. Also on it will be three more. Those three will reveal themselves to you once the Peregrine sets sail. Before that they shall remain aloof from the four of you.

It would not do for everyone coming from a port of call of Absolom to know one another and be interested in this Expedition.

Remember, under no circumstances are you to reveal your affiliations with the Society. Is this all understood?"

"Perfectly clear," nods Arken. Full of jitters, huh?

"How often should we report our findings when we there? Or would you rather not risk it, and receive our journals after our return?"

Xarann Imbros:
That night you return to your room and much later Ambrus enters with the Master of Scrolls.

He nods to you, "Prepare yourself. As I stated, you were chosen. Keep your hat on, quite literally as long as you can.

Master Shaine is going to teleport you to Almas tonight. That will slow down any pursuit by unsavory agents. In a few days interviews in Almas will take place at the Citadel of the Supreme Elect.

You will be a man named Aenon Malas, a Varisian traveling Monk. Aenon spent years following the flow of destiny, changing ships and crews to let him travel even further away from his birthplace. This led him aboard the Emperors blessing, the ship of the renown Tian treasure-hunter Manami Doi and under her guidance he explored the seas from Minkai to the Cape of omens. Over the years, she taught Aenon everything she knew, from the tian language, to navigating the seas and even the ways of the eastern mystics, and in her service Aenon became both a fierce warrior and talented sailor. When he attempted to return home, on what he decided would be his final voyage, fate intervened once more as he met a local about to board for a once in a lifetime Expedition, instead of getting off, he stayed on traveling to Almas and here you are... Do not forget to give your illusory cover the appropriate tattoos.

This man does indeed exist. In exchange for membership in the Society and a place in the Chapter House of the Mwangi expanse, he has allowed us to utilize his identity to sneak one of our Members on board. That Member is you.

Have you any other questions for me before you go?"

Absolom - the Grand Lodge

Aleasia, Arken Wazyr, Jora Penn, and Kesari of Bandarom

Aram Zey responds to Arken, "Upon your return. You are indeed correct, we have no desire to risk such contact".
