Kern looks at the mutated goblin and grimaces slightly. "Changing things kind of makes sense," he says, "given what happened to that thing. Good thing Sophy warned you in time, Victor. I'd hate to see you turn into something like that."
Victor smiles. Yes. I'm sure you would. He thinks sarcastically.

Quick post from phone, you should be able to determine roughly what spell level the transmutation aura is with detect magic- if its faint then its probably safe to use (polymorphing you permanently would be at least moderate)
Eponine
No, no. Wait a moment. Eponine's gaze is fixed on the sword, even though she's speaking to the others.
This she says pointing at the mark on the sword is the mark of El'daierothia, an elven smith. Actually, quite a revered smith. She didn't imbue her work with magic, but she says some of the finest blades in this land, and they are often used for enchanting afterwards. We shouldn't read too much into it. If we are concerned that it might be harmful magic, I'd be willing to wield it until we can determine the true properties.

Having turned to the topic of the magic sword and away from the frothing evil pool, Eponine, Victor, Sophy, and Wren have gathered to talk near the corpse of the mutated goblin. From outside Belril says in a loud whisper over his shoulder. "Hey, keep it down. Someone is coming down the hall. With all the sources of light in the cathedral, the halfling steps away from the door and melts into the shadows.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Victor Montoya
Not really listening to the halfling as he is caught up in the discussion of the weapon. "Hold a moment, Miss Eponine." He starts as his tone seems to represent irritation toward Eponine's declaration that he might be afraid of wielding this weapon. (At least, that's what he heard). "I am not concerned with such things, AND as such, have no qualms about using such a weapon." He picks it up and returns to admiring the swirling rune etched in the sword. "Besides, it is far superior than this rapier I wield. Abadar knows I need all the help I can possibly get. Now, if you feel it would prove far more useful in your hands and would benefit us most, then so be it." He swings it around a few times, testing it. "What do you think?" He asks her, planting the end of the sword through the dead mutant so it will stand up. "Hm?"
Sophy Cassell
Sophy's eyes open wide with alarm at Belril's warning. Realizing that standing there holding a lit-up crossbow, she is making herself a prime target, she looks around for something to do with the weapon. She starts to drop it, then flinches as she recalls what happens when she drops anything lately, and instead carefully sets it down behind the dead goblin. 1 square south of Korovus Still holding the dagger Victor handed to her, she backs toward the vestment closet as a hiding place.
Victor Montoya
Victor internally fumes at Kern as he grabs the sword and stabs the dead mutant again,(a bit more forcefully this time, of course), before removing it again and readying to use it against whatever. Completely forgetting about his discussion with Eponine, seeing how his anger toward Kern has increased immensely, he moves to the other side of the door, glancing to see if he can see what it might be that is coming their way.
Move 2 squares to my right; 3 and 1/2 squares straight up. Against the wall, next to the door.

Yeah, I know I'm not technically next to the dead mutant. Just roll with it, if you would. It's just easier that way. At least for me, seeing how I already screwed it up intially. :P

At Belril's warning everyone snaps to the ready. Victor grabs the magic blade (roll normal I will adjust for the magic) and takes a positon by the door. Belril is hiding in the shadows outside the door, Sophy puts down the crossbow keeping her new silver dagger at the ready. Eponine stands defiantly in the door way waiting and Kern moves to the other side of the door ready for action. This is essentially the actions done in the "surprise round", Wren I wanted to keep the thread going so feel free to post a partial action before your regular action.
Round 1 Begins
From the shadows of the tunnel comes a low moaning sound and then suddenly a man sized spider comes skittering out of the tunnel off the wall and into the shrine. Belril stabs at it plunging the spear into its bulbous body it shrieks in pain and bites at the halfling who easily avoids the venomous teeth. The spider is not alone and something humanoid shape can be seen coming out of the shadows in the tunnel.

DM, Belril will not affect my action, so I will post it now.
Wren, seeing the squad surrounding the spider like creature, focuses her attention on the other strange monster in the room, firing off one of her arcane force missles at it, after moving backwards 5' to get away from the spider.

Wren, with out line of sight you can't see the spider. However, I did say you could take a move action for the prior "surprise" round. Let's say you dash over behind Eponine to see what is coming. I will be back in a few with a detailed post that show what happened from Victor to Wren's actions. Sophy and Eponine can post too if they get a chance to before my update.

Victor moves into attack, but the eight scurrying legs make it difficult for him to make a vicious strike. Belril steps back and thrusts with his long spear. It digs deep into the monstrous bugs flesh as Wrens magical blast smacks the spider in the eyes, causing the thing to puff up angrily.

Eponine runs into the shrine bringing the light with her. The shadows filling the hall melt away revealing a line of shambling corpses wearing ancient tattered clothes.
Great to have you back Belril
Sophy Cassell
Sophy gasps in horror. "Dead people? How awful! Erylium must have gone to send them after us. She's probably there too, invisible!" she calls out to the others. "Be careful!" If she's coming back with them, she'll probably be headed for her magic monster-spawning font, Sophy thinks. She retreats toward the graffitied, inky pool, warily watching the air around her head for the quasit's reappearance. Moving to after Eponine in initiative. Standard action: total defense; move 30 feet up the stairs toward the font.

The first two zombies charge into the shrine, the first is headed straight for Eponine who is ready for him and she slashes it with her curved blade. A hunk of it's cracked and wrinkled flesh falls to the ground as it fails to gain an advantage on the elf. The second zombie lurches at Victor pounding it's unnaturally moving fists on the warriors chest. Three more zombies shuffle into the room behind the lead attackers.

The zombies are out in the shrine, you are still in the cathedral. The nearest one is 40 ft away. Burning hands wouldn't be able to reach them, also nothing is currently threatening you so yo don't need to be defensive to cast this round. Do you wish to make a different action?

Yes, the red rings indicate that the creatures are dead, and not coming back with the Fast Healing. I also flipped their pictures upside down to help indicate they are not a threat. It helps me to know where the bodies are, sorry if that is confusing anyone on the map. I will put a key in the OOC Thread to help let you all know what I use to mark things.

My bad. I'm a doofus. Don't know how I got that confused. Let me redo my action if you don't mind.

Sophy takes a stance at the top of the podium watching as Eponine steps up onto the top of the altar's dais and decapitates the undead being in front of her. The head rolls across the room but, Sophy doesn't even have time to celebrate the elf's momentous blow as she watches the next zombie rushes Eponine and slams into her hard. Eponine is knocked to the ground unconscious. A second zombie rushes Kern, and Victor is able to hack a piece of it off, but the magical sword he wields fails to stop the creature. It too slams into it's target and Kern suffers a blow as vicious as the one that dropped Eponine, though Kern is able to keep his feet and his wits about him. The last zombie in the line shuffles in moaning as it approaches Victor.

It's hard to tell if Sophy is more horrified by the call that Eponine has been downed or by the bubbling, glowing font behind her. "Quick! Quick!" she calls. "She's in here somehow! I'll get to Eponine with the wand, but there's something else coming out of the pool!"
Delay until someone else comes into the room to deal with the spawn; then she'll go get Eponine.

I assume Wren can hear Sophy, so...
Wren's ears perk up and she turns and runs back into the room iwth the magical font. "Let's eliminate this thing, then maybe we can figure out how that demon is using it!"
