Thanks everyone for your thoughts and comforts, the memorial was beautiful and it was good to celebrate with family. Grandpa lived an amazing life and though we are sad, we are indeed blessed to be his legacy.
I have a bunch of school stuff to get caught up on so I probably won't post again until tomorrow. Is everyone ready to re-enter the fortress? If there is anything anyone wants to do outside before going through the doors please post either in game or here in the OOC and I will incorporate it into my next post. I will work on it tomorrow mooring at work.

Belril Leokas wrote:Mythril before we hit 6 can I get your opinion on whether you'll allow Manyshot to work with a Slingstaff. Essentially, its not RAW so I thought i' see your opinion on it as you were generous with Gravity Bow. Not gunna push for Manyshot though, just want to see if its an option.Just a bump for this.
I am going to rule no on this one, while I felt the tweak of the spell could be done without altering the rules of the game, I think allowing a Feat to work beyond it's rules could lead to problems. Thanks for asking.

I am waiting to see how everyone wants to react to the new information: the door is not just closed it is nailed shut and barred. Does someone want to try and bash it open? Does anyone want to investigate two dead goblins? Do you all want to skip the out building since something has obviously been sealed in?

FYI: We have a self pack truck coming today to move us to Nebraska. This weekend I will probably not have much time to do any posting as we finish packing and get the truck loaded. My wife and the kids leave on Monday, so I will have plenty of free posting time starting next Monday. I will fly out and join them the following Saturday for two weeks before coming back to KY to finish my degree. Those two weeks prior to Easter might be slow posting as we get settled into the house, set up internet, and assimilated to the new community. Once I am back at school, I have seven weeks of no responsibilities so I will again have plenty of free posting time.

They are off to Broken Bow, Nebraska...I don't get to join them till Saturday. They are driving with the dog and I will fly out and visit for two weeks and then fly back to finish my degree. Then I will U-Hall out the last of our stuff and tow my car. Fun Times.
When we drove out to visit we stopped and did the St. Louis Arch, I had been there but my kids hadn't. They loved it, my wife who hates heights...not so much.

Hey Gang, I am leaving in the morning to fly to Nebraska...looks like the earliest we will have internet set up out there is the 26th so it will be awhile before I post again. Go ahead and discuss where you want to head next and I will follow up as soon as I can.

So I have come to the conclusion it is time for a DM Burn post, and I need to apologize for not doing it earlier and wasting time on empty rooms. You all are all fairly certain the top floor is clear of monsters, and OOC that is true, except the horse encounter which is now resolved. If we were at my table I would tell you the players the top is clear and then go room to room on the map and tell you what you see, and if you wanted to explore something specifically I would stop and resolve that and move on to the next room. I have heisted to do that up to this point because of the horse encounter and I don't want the Party to miss out on any possible loot or clues, plus I was hoping for more in character banter like what I saw about the rabbits in the cage. I also realize at this pace we can be going through empty rooms for weeks and that is BORING for you and me.
I am going to work on a post that finishes the top floor, I will NPC any obvious rolls, like Disable Device to get behind a nailed shut door. After the post I will wait for a post from each of the PC's that indicates they are ready to go down stairs and how you want to proceed at that time.
Before going downstairs if there is anything in the rooms you want to investigate or explore let me know in a post prior to the ready to go down post and I will address it in a sort of flash back post. I hope this will get us moving again and will still allow you all to find any possible loot and clues that aren't obvious. I will try to make this the practice from now on when we come to a place that was previously cleared.
Again sorry for not figuring this out earlier, I know this has been slogging along and we need to get back to the action.

I approve of both the method and the loot profile. Much easier than paging back through the thread to find the treasure drop, and dungeons are murder in play-by-post, as it can take days for the "which way do you go? left. i examine the door. it's not trapped. i roll to unlock the door. success. i open the door. the room is empty. which way do you go now?" rigmarole. Love dungeons in person, but they're just too tedious in play-by-post.
Did you mean to put up a map link, though? You have map references but no link to a cleared map.

To avoid using NPC Orik as an info dump fell free to ask him questions and I will give answers but he probably won't volunteer too much (some things he will bring up) info with out prompting. Try not to take that in character as him not being helpful, I just don't want to use him to avoid the party from making discoveries on their own.

I went a head and move on to the next level so that we could keep the thread moving. I assume from Kern's post there is nothing on the top floor he wanted to follow up on. Victor, Belril if there is something that you want to do more with upstairs post in in a spoiler and I will do a flashback post to cover it.
Since you all have not explored this level in any great detail yet I am not going to just do one post covering all the rooms, but I will try to do a few at a time to help speed things along. When we did the Catacombs under Sandpoint I did it one room at a time, which was working, but I think that I am going to from now on try to do more than one at a time when ever possible treating groups of rooms as an encounter space instead of just the solo chamber. I just want to note that just because I moved onto a second room, doesn't mean there is nothing to find or discover in the first. I am not just going to skip over empty rooms, but try to group rooms logically when ever possible. Let me know how you all think this works.
Also I will note that as of the time of going down stairs it is now pressing on to early evening.

Yes, I was online when you posted and saw the thread in the 'recent posts' sidebar, but the post wasn't there when I looked for it in-thread. I got to it through the Posts tab on your profile. Would have quoted it so it showed up for everyone, but since it was only a spoiler to me, it didn't matter -- although everyone may have thought I was just making stuff up about the air in the stairway. :)

Any chance we can assume a take 10 on perception for every room? We don't have spell durations up and no real reason to hurry, I think we'd give every room at least a cursory search.
I have been operating on a take 10 with a +12 (the average of your top 3 Perception bonuses including the +2 for the monkey familiar) So anything under a DC 22 I am automatically giving you as if doing a cursory search. With everyone peeking in and looking at each room, but maybe different people being more intent in one or another of the rooms, to represent a group search.
I encourage you to post in character any other specific things you might find interesting in the room descriptions and want to search, A DC22 might lead me to post about something in the room, but not give you the full details of it. I am assuming that Eponine is checking all doors for traps, and that everyone is also looking for secret compartments and doors.

I feel you, this week I have a bunch of stuff due too. 2 Presentations, Papers, Psyche exam tests, and I am spending the weekend out of town having a last hurrah RL gaming weekend with my buddies back home before moving on to Nebraska after graduation. If you need to retcon a post in the Discussion Thread no worries, I can work with that.

Just an FYI this weekend I will be going back home for a weekend of RPG's with my old table group. Its a last fling before I move away from the local area in a few weeks, so I probably won't be posting on the boards much if at all from Friday afternoon until Monday morning when I am back on campus.

Nothing from the second, but the first reveals that the oder is probably goblin sweat mixed by what ever foul thing they might consider good perfume. Sorry, I thought I posted to that effect, but apparently a lot of my posts are getting eaten by the forum golem.

I'll throw in too; does Eppy recognize what it is? Regardless of which knowledge skill is appropriate, the roll is the same (unless it is somehow Geography). 1d20+8
It's totally a Geography monster now, made of globes and atlases and those maps that never fold back up right. Our characters only think those are tentacles because they've never stopped at a state-line welcome center on a road trip.

Sorry for the sudden absence, as you may know my wife and kids live in Nebraska now and I am in Louisville, KY finishing my degree. Yesterday they admitted my wife to the hospital so I drove all night to be here for her and the kids. She is home now and doing well, I will try to catch up on the thread tomorrow after I have gotten caught up on my sleep.
