Ry uses her 6 bp to build a Graveyard @ 1/2x4bp=2bp and a Monument (Belltower) @ 1/2x6bp=3bp. Total cost 5 bp with 1 bp remaining and placed back in treasury.
Month 2: Economy check : 1d20+24
Control DC: 32
9bp - 2consumption = 7bp x 4000= 28,000gp (BGP)
Population: 3000, that is 750 income earners
5% tax rate in VandoraYou told me that Phinneas bumped up my town's Profession from 15 to 25 but I have no idea what to do with this information as I can't figure out the taxation and rest of formula. Sent you a PM.
Addendum: You also mentioned that the tax we paid to the capital in the first month was for 3 months. So why are we paying the capital again in month 2?
I was trying to follow what Waiph did in Month 2 but his Control DC was 33 and I got confused as to why it changed.
Waiph's control may have changed because of the buildings he made - but also because I think both roads and farms improve stability - and with it, control. But I'm not entirely certain at this time, as I didn't know he updated. My "refresh page" didn't show anything on it! Blast!

Dain GM |

So, my control DC remains the same then or does it change too?
I believe it may have changed; depending on what you built, and the size of your population. The larger the population, the higher the DC for your control.
However, don't worry too much about all that. All you need to do is roll your Economy check. I'm pretty much going to leave your DC static for the whole year as of now.
Which is a good thing; because even if you have the DC of 35 (for example), and you get a total of 45, then 50 - you succeed, and you still gain bonus BP +1 for every 5 total you roll; if you succeed.
So as your Economy goes up each month; you'll rolls will get higher, and the DC will remain the same (mainly to hurry things along).
I'd recommend investing the first couple of months on things that help your economy only - it will get your target number higher, and then; once your economy is kind of "locked in" for excellent successes - then spend the rest of the year buying things that help your barony as whole - things like "stability" and "loyalty". Yeah, it's kind of a "cheat" to ignore those now - but after the first 6 months (maybe more, depending) - you'll be making a large amount of money every month regardless and you can afford to be relaxed for a while.
Okay - here's me eager to see barony cook!
After month 3 is finished (the first 25% of the year) I'm introducing Yillim formally to his own barony - with a somewhat more modest fief and land holding to give him something to work with.
At the end of the year, I'll look at everyone's earnings, then I'll ret-con some averages, and turn over a flat rate to Arasmes to play with; not as high as either you, or Waiph, but because it is a flat rate - he may be more enticed to play with it.

My treasury was not correct in my above posting.
So here goes again:
Okay, this is a run down of gold in my treasury:
Starting gold 32,000gp
Earned in Month 1 (after tax to Saravale): 20,638gp
Total of: 52,638gp
Consumption is 5bp to be paid in month 2: 20,000gp
Leaving 32,638gp.
Wages for Council of 10 for the year: (10 x 1000gp) 10,000gp
Living expenses/money given to Satoru to run Dojo: 6,000gp
Remaining gold in Treasury: 32,638gp - 16,000gp = 16,638gp + 2bp (unused from month 1).
Converting some of my gold into BP:
Require 3BP (so 12,000gp). Reduces Treasury to 16,638 - 12,000 =4,638gp
Therefore have 5BP to spend on buildings.
Dain, I'm presuming that Satoru can use the 6000gp Ariarh has allocated him to fit out his 25 vassals?
Income earned in Month 2 (after tax to Saravale): 26,987gp & 5sp
Current Treasury (at end of Month 2): 4,638gp + 26,987gp & 5sp = 31,625gp & 5sp

Dain GM |

You are quite correct about Saturo - however; he has not "Formally" equipped them - nor will he, until he knows specifically what types of units you want; it will make a difference in terms of what type of gear and goods he gives his troops.
At each quarter, he will present you with a status sheet of how successful his people are doing. He has, however, requested a small thing of you - specifically - he would like permission to build "farmland" on one of your adjoining hexes.
He will inform you that he will pay for this farm out of his own treasury - and further - the farmland will be utilized for your entire barony (in other words; your entire barony gets rights to the farmland he is investing in; not just him).
The only reason he is doing this, is to convert some the wetlands into farms for both linen and rice crop.
They have very little access to silk in this part of the world; but they learned to make linen in the Southlands; the land needed for this crop is best if it is "wetlands". Further - the rice crop also needs wetlands.
So - to sum up - he is going to pay his own BP for one of your hexes outside of your barony to be converted to a "farm" - but he intends to subdivide this farm into rice and linen - however, all of your barony gain the bonus of this crop. He will formally be in charge of its management, however.
Your natural druidic lore would inform you that since both rice and linen need wetland, and you border heavy flood-able rivers (like the Nile) - these farms would actually go in sync with the land; as opposed to something like wheat, which would require you to drain the water from the land and do some work; and it would compromise the wetlands.
Hearing this suggestion (if you permit it) your treasurer will point out that linen is fairly rare in the northlands - and could be a valuable commodity. Also - as rice is rare as well; it could be valuable to trade with your fellow barons; and with so much of the River Kingdoms needing a crop that does well in the wetlands, this could do well for you.
Finally - you have received word from your National Spymaster - Brett Cutter.
It reads:
Lady Kane; in some parts of the world, the hour is late - it may even be stated at 4:45 in the morning. I understand you have several questions that you would like my illustrious network to peruse and hopefully answer. When will those questions be delivered so that I may answer them in a timely manner? Thank you very much, and have a lovely night.
At this moment, Anuk-su snatches the letter from your hand, reading it over.
"Hmph! Quite arrogant on his part. As if we won't submit those foolish questions soon enough! Cocky little sod, sister! Even so - I should say; thou did speak something about the questions later this evening - and the time is rather late... Perhaps we may submit something to him, at least to defray his nagging, eh?" she says with a pat on your arm, then yawning loudly (it seems the late hour is effecting her beauty sleep - even so; she is a young dragon...

This leaves you with (roughly) 7 BP, and 3,625 GP and 5 SP... Remember; month 3 is the last month of your "tax" to Saravale, then you convene with your Council and reconfigure taxes. That starts at the beginning of month 4 - all the money you get in month 4 will not be subjected to those tax rates.
More about that will come at the end of month 3. Good times!

Vandora Province |

Your only caveat is you can only do 4 of these things per month - I put this stipulation in place because I presumed you and Kae would be doing exactly that - and didn't want things to go crazy. I didn't intend for you to use a "weekly action" to convince the apemen to move in with you because I thought that was a given, and though I don't mind RP'ing it out - I thought these weekly decisions would be the ways to really be working and shaking things up
Um, I didn't "waste" a weekly action on convincing the apemen to move into my province. So, I don't understand why you felt the need to say this.

Month 2
1. Asher Jamieson will look into creating a sacred site now that The Temple of the Elk has been restored. Ariarh hopes that this will increase the flow of pilgrims into Vandora, paying homage to the great Erastil. He will send word out to the faithful and to high priests in other lands, provinces etc.
Asher's Diplomacy: Take 20 for a total of 25.
2. Ariarh to create a Druidic order in Vandora. She will send word out across the land, promoting the beauty of her forested barony and the opportunity for Druids to make home in a new land with opportunities to bless farmland/crops and earn a percentage of the farm's yield. Even to teach and pass on their knowledge of nature and healing or provide midwifery service. She will write to her mother who has connection with the druid acolytes in Artume.
Ariarh's Diplomacy: Take 20 for total of 35.
3. Phinneas Higonbothom to put out feelers and determine if there is a market for the extra weapons and armor Satoru has requested that Ariarh purchase. And advise Ariarh the best price to on-sell these items.
Phinneas' Diplomacy: Take 20 for total of 24.
Phinneas' Appraise: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 (not sure if this is necessary)
4. Ariarh to speak with Isani and/or Phinneas to determine if she can tap into her Celestial bloodline and find a way to activate her dormant "powers" and whether there is a chance she can "grow" wings like her higher-level angelic ancestors.
Isani's Knowledge, Planes aid: take 20 for a total 28 or

Asher’s work
Asher will inform you that the following needs to happen:
1. Make general proclamation for the nation at the next council meeting (should be at the end of month 3) and issue a document to that effect. He will write it up for you.
This will cost you a total of 500 GP to send it out to all the provinces with couriers worthy of your rank – however; once completed – increase the “Stability” of your barony by +1 to every shrine, temple or holy sight you have to Erastil.
2. He informs you it will be a bit more costly and expensive to send out the next document, as it will have to go to various nations; this needs outriders and perhaps guards; and something worthy of the rank and merit it carries.
He informs you that this will cost your roughly 2,000 gold; and take about 3 months. HOWEVER – on the month of July (Erastus) – you will be able to earn a large bonus of revenue for Erastus’s Holy Month in pilgrims. He informs you that the pilgrims won’t be able to fill up much of your town; and this will depend on the size of your town via commerce. But the short answer is: once you deliver this letter to various nations – you can be sure that you will earn 500 GP for every 4 “squares” of space pilgrims can visit on or set up camp (i.e. – to keep it simple, for every 1,000 citizens you have; you generate an additional 500 gold per 1,000 for the month of Erastus).
He suspects eventually the novelty will wear off – in about 5 years. But if you send out more letters in the years to come – to farther locations – you can probably get another similar result.
Your Druidic Order
This will take some time to send out letters – but you did well to get things going.
It is recommended that your letters – to send them out to various nations – would cost you roughly 2,000 gold.
However, the druidic people are already very interested in the land. Your excellent roll for Diplomacy helping quite a bit as well. They will therefore come on the two holy days of Druids – the Winter and Summer Solstice.
On those two months every year – whatever farmland you have in your barony will double its yield for those 2 months because of their blessing. While it is not likely you will be able to get the information by the Summer Solstice (though you can if you want to) – the next part will happen as soon as you designate the land as a “free action”.
Further – because you are very good with your farms in general (and are creating a “Druidic Order” besides) – pick one “hex” of farmland. This farm will earn twice its value all year round; (for creative map-making purposes, it is likely that this is where your druidic order will meet).
Mister Higonbothom
Phinneas’ has some feelers out for this very issue. He has reached a very basic conclusion – but decides to step it up.
The basic conclusion is the best place for you to buy any specialty weapons and gear is from your contact Delain; who is expert at this and specifically employed for the task.
However - Phinneas' also makes the suggestion that you reach out to your other Council Members and see if they want the same type of weapons/armor as well.
Phinneas' believes the following can be arrange for purposes of special discounts that go above and beyond what Delain was willing to offer initially; because buying in bulk saves a lot of money.
Delain is currently giving you, Kae and Brett 10% off weapons and armor. But you can do better then that with bulk purchasing.
Specifically:
If you are willing to purchase a total of 1,000 identical weapons – reduce the total cost to 80% = time to finish and deliver: 1 month to manufacture – 3 for delivery (in other words – six weeks to get him the message, and six weeks back).
If you are willing to purchase 1,000 pieces of identical armor – reduce the cost to a total of 80% = time to finish and deliver – 2 months, plus the standard 3 for delivery.
For every 3,000 sets of identical weapons or armor: reduce the base cost to a total of 70% of their market value.
Phinneas' suggests that if you can get at least Brett and Kae on board with this project and ordered (for example) 3,000 sets of studded leather – and you each took (for example) 500 for your barony – and left 1,500 for the national army – you’d normally spend 25,000 GP on such a venture. But with this discount – you would only need to spend 17,500 gold pieces – and could probably knock it down to a cool 17,000 While that may seem high, he reminds you – Kae and Brett would supply gold for the venture; and likely the National Army would pay as well for their troops to be equipped.
He casually remarks that if you can get Oleg and Arasmes on board – you’d really be cooking.
Finally – thanks to your excellent roll; he points out that making a “crest” would cost you nothing, extra – and would allow you to have Parde Armor – some for the Barony, some for the Nation – as needed. But it has the exact same bonus as Studded Leather – plus an extra perk that you can see in the link.
Wings?
Sadly – your collective team is stumped. It almost literally drives you mad – and in your frustration, Anuk-su hears you. That’s when she decides she needs to talk with her “little sister” (in years, of course).
That answer will be on the “Campaign Thread” – but it is a more lengthy response and will require a “spoiler” – more on that to come.

Month 3
Letter to your dad.
It is the third month that your barony has been cooking – coincidently, you have six little griffon eggs from your father now arrived (if you don’t have them already – they are 2 male, 4 female; if I have already mentioned them – please disregard this).
It will take time for the letter to get to your father; and back. You have a few suspicions on this:
1. Though the cost of the letter is negligible – you still need a courier to get it to him. That will take some time; and it will also cost some money. Roughly 500 gold; because your father will need to “reach out” to his contacts to find out what can be done to get horses.
2. The “reaching out” part is the trick. While your father is a successful rancher, there are many others in the area that work like he does. Therefore – he will be able to talk to them, and as a growingly important member of the community (considering his daughter’s status) – he will be able to encourage them to sell you horses.
There will not be any discount on “bulk” – your father will do what he can to get good deals.
He will be able to get you any amount of horses or types that you want at 75% of market value.
3. Your father would probably recommend you starting a formal stable – as such; for the cost of 2,000 gold – he will provide you with a special group of trust ranch hands; and group of 4 stallions and 12 mares.
This grants you a new “Building” – but can not be formally built until month six. Your father believes that this building – while costly – will not only pay for itself soon; but be valuable down the line.
Ranch: This is a building that breeds and trains horses. It requires a bit of extra land – but it’s revenue is guaranteed, and helps your community in general.
Bonuses: +1 Stability, +1 Economy, -1 to unrest. This building provides horses for your citizens and generates wealth besides.
Cost: 6 BP – may be built anywhere. 1x2 squares.
Special: Once every 3 months your mares will generate the following free horses for you to sell: 1d6 War Horses; 3d4 Light Horses; 1d4 ponies. These horses and ponies can be either kept, or sold at the end of the month for full market price.
All horses and ponies created on a ranch are automatically considered “war trained” by your team of ranchers.
Question 2: Emmala
Emmala remarks that to do such things would require a Exotic Crafstman or an Herbalist (both same cost in BP – and can do essentially the same thing, with a few slight differences) – but suggests a Alchemist Shop for better results – but admits that some of your lower level priests should be able to create “Cure Light Potions” (to do this as either a PC or NPC – you need to be able to cast the spell, and have the Feat “Brew Potions”).
However, she is extremely impressed with your knowledge and know-how with the ability and believes it will go a far way to producing such goods; if you can.
Therefore – the first month you have the ability to produce either an “Alchemist Shop” or “Herbalist” or “Exotic Craftsmen” she will use your excellent Public Relations to get the word out. For that month alone you will be able to earn an extra 2,500 gold pieces if you have any of those buildings; whose own team of crafter’s will quickly out pace her speed alone. Further – if you ALREADY have those buildings (I may have missed something) – then you earn a total of 3,000 GP.
However – she admits if you allow her to manage any of these buildings – she will be able to guarantee – for free – 10 Cure Light Potions – for free – a month (that is worth 500 GP by the way; so it’s not too shabby). She informs you this will not cost you any of her time.
Question 3: Akiko’s work:
Akiko is fairly impressed with the citizens – and they you. You discover a fund has been taken up in your honor. They are collecting to make a small Monument to you, and for your honor. She admits that the citizens don’t have much money – but insist they want to pay for this project on their own.
NOTE: A monument costs 6 BP – or 24,000 GP. For every 250 citizens you have – they intend to generate 50 GP, and this is per 250 citizens, (also, this doesn’t effect your taxable income: it’s extra, and a bonus) – until they get the statue built. Though this will still take the required land – they intend to build it on their own. It should be added – this work started on Month 2 – after they saw your good work. If you would be okay with it – please keep track of the total gold so far; and the amount of citizens moving into the place for purposes of when they’ll get it done.
On Month 2 - when they started - you had 3,000 citizens. That is a total of 1,200 gold pieces (50 GP x 12, as 12 = 3,000/250).
When you build more buildings, your gold pieces go up. This work will be completed when it gets completed. At this rate - your citizens will take 20 months (only 19 more to go). But for every building you build each month; it will speed things up with their donations; as it will generate more citizens. Once you reach 4,000 - for example - you'll have another 400 gold a month - but you understand the math here.
In month 3 you built a library (I believe 1x1 squares - or 250 citizens). This means By the end of Month 3 you will have a total of 2,450 Gold Pieces for your monument - more then a tenth of the way there!
Remember: even if you build yourself a monument - it won't effect this one. This is made for you, by your happy people - and it gets done when they earn it on their own - they want to do something nice for you. The most you can help is to make more happy citizens.
Question 4: Your Marshal
Your marshal’s work was initially concerned with trouble from the west – this is, after all, where the enemy from Ustalav came. However – his riders report that your western flank is well guarded by Brett’s barony there; and he is not concerned.
To the south you are well protected by your capital, and to your east – you have nothing but wide open plains – and those plains are protected by your general.
On occasion you have wandering monsters that come from your forest – but nothing his men can’t handle.
He is worried about your northern flank – after sending riders north and cross-referencing reports.
Technically, Oleg is doing very well; as a businessman. The majority of his money is spent on economic stability – and despite Drakes insistence otherwise; he has spent far less on military aid; believing his strong connections with the Brevoyian nobility (oh yes, Oleg has been busy, too) – will help him there, and the entire south is really protected by the rest of your collective baronies.
Drake informs your man that he is worried that although Oleg is becoming very wealthy – and doing fairly well – when the winters come – he feels that trouble can be problematic. He reminds you of what happened last winter when the barbarians attacked; and feels that though the Brevoyian nobles are friendly enough with Oleg – he doubts highly they would actually commit themselves militarily to his aid; preferring only trade; and not interested in sending troops when he has an entire nation to back him.
As such – Drake recommends you encourage Oleg to stop making such a wealthy target on your northern flank – where the barbarians came – unless he at least expands the military.
All of that can be done at your next Council Meeting.
