Dior screeches as soon as the first raindrop lands and slides down Ariarh's face. She lifts her face upward and the rain begins to fall earnestly. Ariarh turns back in the direction of the fire and sees the plumes of mist now flocking the skyline. Alaric and Gan are standing beside her, watching the same. Dior comes and lands by his mistress' feet, shaking the droplets from his head. He then climbs and shields himself beneath Ariarh's travelling cloak.
"Well, my friends, this is some fortuitous rainfall. We should give thanks for such good fortune." Ariarh closes her eyes and gives a quick, silent prayer of thanks to any/all gods who may be listening. It was indeed strange and miraculous that the rain fell when it did, but she wouldn't turn away nor discount such a gift.
"We still need to find out what's happened to the others. Should we ride out to find/meet them or wait here for their return? The roads would be extra muddy/slippery now with the rainfall."
Ariarh recollects the information given to them by Garum pertaining to the Statue of Erastil and the special blessings bestowed to his faithful. She would be sure to pass on the information to Brett and Hermia, in particular. But she was disappointed they hadn't been able to obtain more information from the boggard as the on-coming fire took necessary precedence.

Brett is now jogging in with quick squishy thud-thud of his ponies hooves in the soggy mud. He looks frusterated and angry.
"We found the bloody dwarf. He's up the road a bit, riding on Hermia's horse... Damn it! Why'd he have to go wandering off without telling us his plans at least I'll not know..."
Brett looks around, seeing the rain comming down harder.
"Where be our dear little friend, eh?"he looks over his shoulder, seeking for the boggard, but sees nothing but misery. The rains have come down thick, and the muddy waters have been churned into a mess of scummy filth, and only the falling waters seem to be keeping the stench down, though not by much.
Thunder crashes, and the waters are rushing off the boggards meager dwelling into the muddy ground. The former building that housed the bodies is already finished, but the whole thing seems to be sliding into a slurge of near quicksand. A huge bubble of slime and scum burps out where the building had been, and suddenly more stones collapse into the mud that it rested on.
"Hey..."Brett shouts out over the downpour "The rain be right foul... and this place even worse. We waitng here for a reason? Or ye all want to lit out o' here and try to find some cover?"
Brett is not clear what started the fire that was surrounding Smendor when they found him, but he has a pretty good guess, and is not happy about things currently.
Gan alone seems to be nonplussed by the rain. Perhaps his time working in the padi during the rainy season has nullified his concern with the elements. Then again, you have heard tha samurai place discipline above all things. Perhas his stern resolve is only a matter of years of training to resist all forms of punishment.
He moves over to Smoke and pulls himself into the saddle.
"We came here to find a village and shelter. Instead we found neither, only more mysteries. Who built these buildings? Who killed these men? What more does the boggard know that he will not share with us? He has fled, for the sight of fire sent him diving for the waters. We could wait for him to return, if he returns; but how long shall that be? For myself, I would rather ride on."
"Perhaps,"Alaric says, his eyes glinting in the gleam of lightening, as a sudden crash of thunder peals through the heavens as he strides forward.
"Yet it may be worth it to wait; for if he returns soon, we may save much time in speaking with him. Indeed, he was preparing to sketch myself and the good lady Ariarh a rough map of the surrounding areas, and would have no doubt added to our own map, if Brett hadn't left with it."
"And I would'na have had to leave ye, if the dwarf hadn't gone wandering off alone in the first place."
"True; but you did wander off; and master Smendor is safe, and the boggard has left. We must keep our eye on our duty, and remember that if waiting an hour or two saves us days, it may be worth it."
"Aye... but this supposes the boggard comes back,"Brett retorts.
"Yes... you touch it well, master Brett,"Alaric responds, his face troubled.
Clearly you are all at a loss on what to do. Should you wait for the boggard? Or should you ride on? At the least you wait for Smendor and Hermia to return, so they can give their feedback, but you are all wondering what to do next.
If you wait here, there are many dangers... if you ride on, there are other dangers. You must choose; but choose.... wisely.

"It is quite wet right now and also it will be quite dark if we decide to travel from this place. These factors alone will make any riding or travelling this night quite precarious at best, not to mention slow. However, we cannot stay or make camp at this spot because the filthy waters are rising and the stench inside Garum's hut is potent and I would consider harmful to us if we were to remain indoors overnight."
"If I might suggest, we move further up the road with our horses and find a relatively higher place to set up camp? We could shelter 'neath the tents or at least set up some kind of canopy to keep as much rain off us as possible. If the boggard does come back to his home, we will still be in the vicinity and have opportunity to speak with him come morning. And, if he does not return, we can decide whether we will be heading to the Statue of Erastil as we originally decided upon."
Ariarh would like to wait for Hermia and Smendor to return to weigh in on the discussion and have group agreement.

Hermia, please read the full posts. My last post was to suggest that you choose. That is; the group. So far, Smendor is out for the night, and we haven't heard from Gan in several days (he may have personal issues there), and Alaric is busy. Nevertheless, I told the party to choose. If Ariarh wants to choose, that's her choice. What is YOUR choice? Let me know in game, and we can go from there. Nothing has been decided, except for players to let me know where their characters stand. If you and Ariarh are the only two people who chooose to post what you want to do tonight, that's cool, we can go from there. Personally, I don't know where you will go, or what you will do. Just cast your vote and then we can know better where the party stands. Though I prefer that vote to be in game, through the character's voice.

Ah, it was buried under and between the bold text, at the later half of a line, is why I missed it. My mistake.
Hermia, tired from slogging about in the muck and mire in ill fitting clothes, and... just plain tired, considers the situation the group has found themselves in for a time.
"Ry, what are your current capabilities, in terms of spells that you are able to cast as of this moment?" she asks directly, as this will affect her choice.

Ariarh looks at Hermia. "I'm glad you're back."
"I have two remaining higher level spells, Hermia. Of course my minor spells are all still viable."
Ariarh still has Entangle and Summon Nature's Ally of her higher level spells.
Hermia Robin
Hermia nods. "The nature of my magics has changed since... since I returned. I have several cure spells which I may use to heal Smendor, provided that we do not move any further tonight, and most of my channeling," she summarizes succinctly.
"The waters here are fetid. Had... Had we allowed the fire to burn longer, it might have consumed the foul gas, but there are even more dangers to remaining here than each of us expiring due to inhalation of foul odors. Smendor's condition is a testament to that fact," Hermia nods to the dwarf.
"What remains of our horses cannot drink this water, nor can we, and as you observed, we are not certain how high the water table will rise this evening. We therefore need to get to higher ground.
"Concerning the boggard, apologies, Gan, but I do not believe it prudent to remain to question him. His people are taught to fear and follow divine spellcasters above all else. To bind him here, to either of our wills," Hermia gives a gesture to Ariarh, "is fundamentally and morally reprehensible. Any information he might provide may save us some amount of time when it comes to claiming these lands, but not when it comes to surveying them. If these evil men have left more such gruesome displays behind for us, I would like to know it, in hopes of determining where they have gone, and when. Every find is evidence, every shortcut is cheating us of information that we must learn."
"Master Brett, the going may be slow, but I trust you to lead us to higher and safer ground. If you do not mind terribly, after I have healed Smendor I would like to walk beside you. I cannot afford to sleep, as I have stated previously and will not allow any of you to escape a thorough examination when we do make camp."
Hermia looks to her companions. "The good Lord Erastil, and the Great Mother have given us this gift of rain. While it is not the most ideal weather for traveling, we must abide."
Brett Rowan
"Well, if ye recall, if we traveled up trail, rather, if we kept going way up a piece, several miles in fact, before we started tacking down to this bloody mess of criss-crossed rivers and bogs, we'd already be camping at Erestil's statue, I'd gather. If we ride for about maybe five or six miles up that way "he adds, gesturing northwards "we're like as not to find a flat place to set up some camp. No doubt our sturdy dwarf had that in mind when he trecked up the path a piece, and if had all done it together, it may be that we could have been propper good and safe. But anyhow... Yeah, we could go up there, maybe five miles, and we should be alright... Away from this swamp gas, and other refuse, and such,"he adds nodding.
Sadly you are forced to move at 1/4 speed during this time. Further, Smendor does not have a horse at this time, and will need one to ride, unless someone wants to try tracking his horses in the dark. Which can be done... but it will take some time. What am I saying...
Brett frowns...
"Smendor there don't got a horse. We could try to find 'em, in the dark. But with the rains falling hard... like as not it will have churned up more mud, and tracking at night, in these rains... it be right hard, if damn near impossible. I could give it a go, if someone give me light... maybe. But before I go running off in the dark to fetch a lad's horses... know it will take me a while, probably... if ye want speed, best to forgo them. But in the long run, giving Smendor a horse may be better... Ah hell, what do YE folk want to do..."Brett asks, looking at the group.
Hermia Robin
"We move as one, or not at all," Hermia adds for herself. "I have not been able to renew my spells this evening, and if we are to travel in inclement conditions, I shouldn't like for any of you to leave my sight. Channeling is most effective when it heals more than one person."
Dain GM

Brett rubs his hands together and blows in them to warm himself.
"So, if I hear you right, we going after the bloody horse then? Or what? I'd have ye rest to get back what favors ye got with the gods..."he adds to Hermia " but that be me. But resting here ain't the place fer it. But if we treck up the road a piece, it would most likely takes us four or five hours to get to dry land so ye can rest. By the time we done that, then come back down in the daybreak, and look around... the trail may as well ne'er been here. But if we go now... it would be better if ye rested well, I agree. The whole thing is a bit of a puzzler,"he adds with a grumble.
And there we have it. Because even if we three wanted to go one or the other, united as a group, we don't have votes in from the other half of the group, and I'd have to NPC three players, not counting Brett, which I don't really want to do. Still no word on how Gan is doing, or if he is still planning on gaming; Alaric has company visiting tonight, and Smendor is done posting for the night. What's next? It seems like we've got all the suggestions posted from us three, including brainstorming ideas, perhaps it be best to call it a night and then wait until the others weigh in tomorrow. And by the way, for those of you who DO weigh in tomorrow, please toss up your votes in character. Thanks!

The fastest and most expedient option is to gather Smendor's horses if we can. I say we spend two hours at most searching for them. We cannot tarry indefinitely though.
"Agreed," Hermia supplies automatically. "If any of us is now host to a parasite, or disease, skulking about in this weather will not serve any of us. Ah, on that point, I do recommend that we not share too intimately among the tents tonight, although... Although it may be more comfortable to do so. Methods of communication vary between diseases and parasites, but... especially in Master Smendor's case, contact and injury are the most common methods."
Hermia frowns when she regards the dwarf. "It is likely best that I monitor him through the night, to be safe."

Ironically, we got at least one more vote in. Two hours searching... but now i must sleep, for I am quite tired. More tomorrow, though.

Recalling the effect of ghost pony, Hermia reaches out and casts Light on Brett's saddle.
"Unfortunately, though I have divined a method to keep us dry in the future, lacking all the necessary components, I will hold my tongue. Care to say, however, that I am quite eager to return to Oleg's when we have completed the task before us," Hermia allows, for herself. "I believe that we should report what we have found to Captain N'Var, so that it might be made known to his squire... Although, how a Brevoyan noble is to receive information that an Ustalavian is interested in this area as well, I am actually quite curious to learn-" Hermia arrests herself when she recognizes that she is simply speaking to fill silence again.
"Pray, pardon me, Master Brett. As I have elected to accompany you, I will now hold my peace."
Hmm... Hermia is getting a taste for the political puzzles... Maybe she will swing diplomat?

Correction to a posting I made yesterday to Hermia's question.
I had the time line confused as to when we left the cave (Temple of Erastil) to when we found Garum's camp. Ariarh has all her spells as she meditated the morning before they left the Temple and she only expended 'soften earth and stone' and 'daylight' at Garum's camp. Sorry about that.

To all...
Due to some personal issues I will not be able to post tonight (except, clearly, for this posting). I will still count any level of social RPing on board, whether I am there or not, toward weekly experience and will get back to all posting as soon as possible tomorrow.
As a quick aside to Smendor: will you be going after your horses with the group?
Brett will use tracking on the horses, anyone wishing to "aid" him via a Survival roll may attempt to do so. Tracking at night is difficult and especially in these conditions. Any aid will be appreciated.
Brett's post will be up tomorrow.
I will be on Skype for business the majority of the evening if there is anything serious to get in touch with me about, and of course, you can always email me.
Sorry for the inconvience, I will be back tomorrow and I look forward to seeing some social RP to read over.
Hermia, Brett will be traveling on foot at this time, because he will need to be near the ground to constantly check the terrain. Also, he does not want his pony to spook, or injure itself in the wilderness; so you will most likely have to readjust what you cast Light on.
Finally; Gan at least will stay here with any horses that stay behind, as a gaurd, if no one else stays with him.
Hermia Robin
I thought the majority of us had agreed that moving as anything less than a complete group is an extremely silly idea, and that we would be moving together in any direction, or not at all.
As Ry moves up to assist Master Brett with his tracking, Hermia calls out to her. "Ry, do you have any preference where I create the light? I thought to keep it from Master Brett's eyes directly by casting on his pack. How do you propose to move with him?"
Ariarh Kane
I think Gan was "left" with the horses because he hasn't been posting on the board of late and he can join in once he is available and posting, again.
"Hermia, might I make a suggestion regarding the light? Instead of the pack, perhaps cast the spell on Brett's sword? That way he can hold it before him or lower it to the ground if he needs to and it is less cumbersome than the pack. I will be moving slightly to the back and left of Brett."
Hermia Robin
Hermia casts as Ry suggests, with Master Brett's permission, and then smiles at them both. "I will travel behind some ten feet, to renew the spell when it is required, also to be within reach should either of you fall," she informs them. "I will be thinking on some solution to treat cloth against water, so I'll not be too loud, I hope Master Brett. Or clumsy," she jests lightly and expends some effort to raise her foot from the muck beneath them for emphasis.
Ariarh Kane
"'Tis good you will be at close range, Hermia. And, I do believe your light spell will be one of our saving graces this dark, wet night."
Ariarh feels Dior shift beneath her cloak. She whispers to him, "Stay under there, my friend. Keep as dry and warm as you can."
To the gods who may be listening, Ariarh sends a quiet prayer.
In a voice which can be heard but not overly loud, Ariarh says to both Brett and Hermia,
"I hope nothing has befallen these horses of Smendor's and they haven't strayed too far from where he had left them."
And keeping her eyes mainly steady on the wet ground before her, Ariarh looks for any visible tracks and undergrowth or pitfalls which could see them trip, fall and injure themselves. She occasionally looks up to glance Brett focused on the tracking task at hand. Ariarh also looks about the surrounding trees, as a precautionary action.
Turning quickly back to Hermia, Ariarh speaks with sincerity and empathy,
"I am sorry you did not get the opportunity to pray/meditate this evening." And then as quickly as she turned around to Hermia, Ariarh gracefully shifts and is facing forward again, concentrating on aiding Brett. We need to find these horses quickly, she thinks to herself. And, we need to get out of this rain and yield to Hermia's thorough examination for parasites and alike.

Have fun with the lighting bolts sparking off massive methane explosions!
Smendor, are you planning on comming with them to find your horses, or waiting with Gan? And I suppose the same goes for Alaric. Though I presume you are both comming with, I don't actually know at this time.
Give me a heads up, and we can go from there...
Dain GM
Well, at this point I am waiting for an answer on Smendor. I have not seen Gan posting in this game or other games for some time. I don't know what to do next. If I don't hear from Smendor soon, I shall simply assume he is waiting with Gan, and we will have to go looking for his horses. Smendor, if you would prefer to help find your horses, let me know soon. Thank you.
Dain GM
Well, as we have not heard from Smendor, I will presume that we are going to look for his horses without him; and that he is going to wait here with Gan. This is so I don’t have to NPC players who are not coming with us. I also presume that Alaric, Ariarh, Hermia and Brett will be going to find the horses, as we don’t want to split up the group further, and it seems that Smendor and Gan are out for a bit.
With light on his weapon cast, Brett moves slowly through the mud and muck, pausing every now and then. After a few minutes of this, barely out of eyesight he gives up in frustration.
”Bah, this be bloody useless… here, here… spread out, spread out… Let’s give ourselves about twenty feet between us, and keep our eyes open fer anything out there. Don’t wander too far from the light, just look to see if ye see any horses about, in the trees or what not…”he adds the last.
The party spreads out somewhat slowly, and after about five minutes of walking Brett stubs his toe loudly and looks down, muttering something about a ”stupid rock…”. But what he discovers surprises him.
Calling you over quickly you find there is a series of broken stones and what looks like a crude pedestal that may have once housed a small statue, possibly man high, but nothing as impressive as the supposed “Statue of Erastil” you heard of. Spreading out and examining the find, he frowns a bit.
The rain has ruined any possible chances of tracking at this point, but he seems interested in following these stones, at least for a bit. No doubt you could have learned more about such stones from the boggard, if he had remained to talk, but for now you simply advance slowly.
Eventually you get to the point that you can these stones were once (perhaps) part of a path. With some careful advancement you discover the path has widened, and you hear a loud whinnying from about fifty or sixty yards before you.
The rain is coming down thick, but you think (you are not quite sure) that you can make out some light ahead.
You are all free to make Perception rolls, and do what you will with your own lights.
Brett’s Perception roll.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Smendor, you are free to “catch up” with us at this time. However, if you don’t post soon, we will be forced to assume you are just waiting by the horses with Gan. By the way, if I don’t hear back from Gan at the end of the week, I will be needing to rustle up a new player. Keep your eyes out for possibilities on that front. Thanks!

The target number is 20, so we won't need to wait for Alaric, who is no doubt staring at something important...
Moving forward somewhat slowly, you peer through the trees.
You can see some latterns hanging from the dangling hands of creatures, gathered around one of Smendor's horses.
The creatures are Kobolds, and it looks like there may be about six or seven of the little buggers.
One of them with the lattern is clearly "directing" the operation, and ordering the others about in Draconic.
You see two Kobolds struggling with the bit and bridle of one horse, trying to keep it from bolting or doing kicking. Four of them are leaning over what you presume to be the other horse.
You can see it is dead, but Ariarh, your 25+ let's you see that one of the forelegs has snapped at the knee in a compound fracture. They are now taking what looks like hatchets and short swords are carving wet globs of horse flesh from the beasts flanks, and dumping them onto Smendor's tent; which is stretched out like a tarp. They keep lobbing more and more bloody meat onto the tarp, even as Brett watches with disgust.
Glancing to you, he motions to Alaric and Ariarh, until you are all now gathered together in a cluster.
"Little basterds! What now, lad and lasses? If we move hard and fast, we can put them down and be done with 'em... Doubt they'll try killing the other horse, they'll need to haul the meat."
Alaric nods.
"We can kill them, aye... and it is our sworn duty to bring order to this land. Yet, they are weak, and no doubt foraging for food in the oncomming darker months. Perhaps we need not kill them; perhaps we need only frighten them off..."
"Frighten 'em off means we'll just have to fight 'em later, when they do something nasty. Well,"he says looking at the other two "What do YE two be saying on it..."

The Kobolds, again.
Ariarh's anger rises in her throat but she remains silent lest she give away their position. How could they do that to the horse? Ry shivers and it is not from the rain. Whispering to her congregated companions, "That horse's leg was broken, snapped at the knee. I hope it didn't suffer too much before it died."
"I could cast an entangle spell and that should, if they don't manage to wiggle free, hold them until we decide whether to let them go or whether we will need to fight them. What say you?"
Dain GM
"Well, then why not be doing that... Then the horse don't bolt, and we can deal with them neat as neat,"Brett adds grimly. He reaches for a pistol, then cusses; and keeps his sword ready.
"You need not worry, friend,"Alaric says with a disarming smile.
"If these villians shall try anything untoward, I shall simply put them asleep... Fear not ladies, I am here to protect you,"he says with rougish smile to Ariarh and Hermia.

Hermia replies to Ariarh. "That seems as though the greatest option. Entangle should not cause the wood to erupt in flames."
Currently the creatures are about fifty feet from you. You currently have 50% cover, if it was daylight about you, with the trees.
To Hermia;
Black: Widely dispersed in forests, swamps, and underground, the black-scaled kobolds are better swimmers than their brethren and gain a +4 racial bonus on Swim checks.
Green: These are the standard forest kobolds, well camouflaged in leafy undergrowth. They gain an additional +4 racial bonus on Stealth checks.
Due to their physical similarities, kobolds loudly proclaim themselves the scions of dragonkind, destined to rule the earth beneath the wings of their great god-cousins, but most dragons have little use for the obnoxious pests.
While they may speak loudly of divine right and manifest destiny, kobolds are keenly aware of their own weakness. Cowards and schemers, they never fight fair if they can help it, instead setting up ambushes and double-crosses, holing up in their warrens behind countless crude but ingenious traps, or rolling over the enemy in vast, yipping hordes.
Kobold coloration varies even among siblings from the same egg clutch, ranging through the colors of the chromatic dragons, with red being the most common but white, green, blue, and black kobolds not unheard of.

"Entangle would be a delightful spell to cast, Ariarh. With the water table so high, the majority of these may be able to swim away if we do not capture them effectively. The other is especially capable of hiding in the wood." Hermia advises.

They all yelp and scream, howling in horror and surprise, only the one with the green skin seems to be keeping his calm.
He yells in rage, and in his scaly language orders them to stop their blubbering and look to see something.
