That was also my impression, so lets go with that. It was certainly my intention. Perhaps some wording somewhere caused hell to break loose, lol.

Game Master

Ok we will go with that.

So, goblin looking figures in the distance around what's presumably a fire but it's hard to tell because it's all foggy. Looks like they are distracted, like someone is giving a speech or something.

"Anyone fancy havin' a look on their own? I aint exactly a delicate flower, and this here armor aint helpin' any." Garroth whispered, looking around at everyone, his gaze settling on the Gnome. "No pressure, but yer likely gonna be our best bet...Or we can just go chargin' in, that works for me too."

With a grin, he slowly unsheathed his sword and drew his shield from his back.

Being volunteered for a delicate stealth mission against an enemy who is likely my people's sworn enemy who would rather eat me as look at me?

Aliatris levels a look at Garroth long and hard before a wide toothy grin splits her face. Now that's more like it!! she slaps him on his knee and bolsters herself, shaking and making limb loosening movements. Man all the excitement is headed my way today...at least except for the fall anyway. If I get spotted I'll make some definite noise. She shoots another bright eyed smile back at the group. Don't let me die, okay?

Aliatris moves forward silently and carefully as possible.

Darn right. Bein' small means no one'll pay attention as long as you don't go bitin' ankles.

Game Master

Aliastris silently moves up the chasm floor through the fog towards the shapes until she can make out exactly what is going on. She gets up pretty close and finds some broken masonry to hide behind.

An immensely fat goblin named chief Ird is addressing a small war band of about 30 goblins in front of a small campfire...

will post as Ird ASAP, hold on! Sorry guys I've been so busy today. Trying to play catch up!

You overhear the majority of a speech Chief Ird is giving:

"Mighty Goblins! Ird know that big booms in the deep earth frighten us! Ird know that nasty dark elves have found way up to ancient fortress. Ird know that ancient fortress was once mighty goblin fortress and bravest goblin tribes lived here! Ird also knows that ancient Orb of Fury still hidden in fortress!...

"Brave goblins! We must face our fear of nasty dark skins and nasty evils they must have, and nasty scary earthquakes, and retrieve goblin artifact and bring great honor to all goblin kind!"

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

Ford squinted through the darkness as the gnome girl crept closer at them. "I dunno... much as I'd like to blast through them, that sounds like a lot of them. Unless we could get the drop on them somehow..."

Game Master

Silently, you guys take a look through the fog to get a better lay out of the area. They seem to be in a wide part of the ravine, walls sharply leading up dozens of yard above them... however, it does appear there is a rocky ledge about 30' up above the goblin camp. You could easily get up there without them seeing, but the climb itself looks rather challenging.

Male Half-orc Fighter 1 (Mobile Fighter), Monk 0 (Monk of the Sacred Mountain)
Stats:
HP: 13, Initiative: +2, Perception:+2 , Sense motive: +1, AC: 20 (T: 13, FF: 18), CMD: 18, Fort: 5, Refl: 3, Will: 2

Garroth motioned towards the ledge "That looks promisin', tough climb though." He looked down himself. "If I get rid of my armor, it shouldn't be a problem for me to get up there. Gonna take a few minutes though, so we gotta hope that loudmouth down there aint about to finish his gibberish any time soon."

Starting to remove his armor, he glanced at the others for confirmation or ideas. "Anyone comin' with, or ya reckon everyone should stay ready for when I bring the party?"

If possible, take 10 on the Climb check for an 18. If 18 isnt enough or I cant take 10, heres a roll.

Climb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Male Anumus (Wolf) Ranger 1 | HP: 11/11 | AC: 18 | TAC: 13 | FFAC: 15 | CMD: 17 | FCMD: 14 | Fort: +3 | Ref: +5 | Will: +1 | Init: +3 | Perc: +7

Romboldt ponders their options quietly before nodding to Garroth. "Probably best to be rid of them while we can use the terrain to our advantage. Last thing I want is a 30-odd screaming greenskins wandering in on us at a bad time." He cautiously moves to follow the half-orc and climb up as well. A perch for the man with a bow was pretty ideal, really.

Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Ugh. Goblins.

Stealth/Move Silently: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Game Master

Ok romboldt and garroth both manage to climb up to the ledge. The goblins can just barely be made out by the fire.

The bard stealthily runs back to the rest of the party and gives them the rundown.

Romboldt settles down on the ledge, bow in hand and ready for action. He gives the others the thumbs up, his attention mostly on the warband as he watches carefully and waits.

climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

but fails to even lift himself up.

Game Master

Ok so! Those of you up in the ledge... There's some bones and rubble and a convienently placed large rock, probably about 500lbs, precariously located in the edge.

"Well, thats lucky..." Garroth whispered to the wolfman, moving over to the rock and peering over the edge. "Ready to make som green paste?"

Scanning the darkness until he spotted his allies below, Garroth signalled for them to be ready, then placed his shoulder against the rock.

To expedite this, im rolling Romboldts assist on the Str check. Romboldt if that isnt cool, just roll one yourself.

Romboldt Assist: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Strength Check: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 2 = 21

That climb check though. :P Yeah the rock splat theory is fine by me, lol

Romboldt grins and nods to the half-orc, wedging himself behind the rock to use the strength of his legs to help push it over the edge. This would make a great ambush and probably put the goblins in a panic to boot.

Game Master

1d100 ⇒ 64
5d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 1, 6) = 15

Romboldt and Garroth get a good grip on the boulder and heave with all their combined might! The two manage to fairly easily push the giant rock off the cliff, sending it sailing with a Loony Toons like whistle down atop the goblin meeting below. Twenty of the goblins go kersplat!

Chief Ird manages to avoid most of the blow but gets nicked in the arm trying to take cover as the boulder comes down and looks pretty hurt. Ten other goblins remain along with the chief. They look surprised as hell, and a whole lot of pissed. With cries and curses, they take up their weapons and prepare to destroy whoever thought they had the balls to take on a whole army!.

Surprise Round

Snith - With the guidance of Erastil, Snith manages to carefully aim an arrow at the goblin chief Ird, despite all the commotion. His arrows strikes true and deals Ird 8 damage!

So Ird has taken 23 damage total and is very badly injured, but still up and fighting

How "tall" is the boulder in its current position? What is the height difference from it to the ledge?

Game Master

it's probably bout 5' tall, so 25' difference

Male Half-orc Fighter 1 (Mobile Fighter), Monk 0 (Monk of the Sacred Mountain)
Stats:
HP: 13, Initiative: +2, Perception:+2 , Sense motive: +1, AC: 20 (T: 13, FF: 18), CMD: 18, Fort: 5, Refl: 3, Will: 2

So if Garroth lowers himself down until he is hanging from his outstretched hands, the difference in height would be something like 15-20 feet (assuming Garroth can reach about 9-10 feet "height" with his hands above his head). If 15 feet, he would take no damage from an intentional fall. If 20 feet, he would take 1d6 subdual damage by succeeding at a DC 15 acrobatics check. Lemme know which it is

Or Garroth could just chuck Javelins I guess -.-

Game Master

my gut tells me to go with making a DC 15 acrobatics save to take 1d6 non lethal, otherwise take 1d6 falling damage (maybe even 2d6 >;])

Javelin ahoy!

For Garroths turn when it comes

Spying the impressive barrage of missiles levelled at the goblin chief, Garroth almost felt sorry for him before hurling a javelin at the creature.

Move to G 15, drawing a Javelin, then throw. Even with the elevation, it should be within one range increment I think

Javelin Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 I think theres a bonus for high ground as well but cant find it atm.

Javelin Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Oy vey...

The bonus to higher ground is applicable to melee, not ranged, and it's a +1 bonus. With that said I would think that attacking from higher ground for ranged would constitute an increased range increment..? Not too sure about that part.

Game Master

i remember reading somewhere about a +2 to hit for high ground advantage... Will do more research

Aliatris as a swift action imbues her rapier with arcane strike and then casts the spell-like abilitiy Dancing Lights within the center of the goblins. She's banking on the goblin's inherent fear/awe of magic/fire to work against them in this.

I don't think I have to roll anything against the goblins but I'm not sure since its technically not a performance?

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

Sorry, was out for most of the day yesterday. X( Will catch up as fast as I can.

Unlike Sam, Ford has little patience with his magic. Charging past and ahead of him and Snith, Ford's cloak flaps up like wings as he points his index finger at the nearest goblin foe. A quick crackle of electricity covers his hand, before sending a bolt flying at his target.

Move north 30' and casting Jolt on the closest goblin. Save DC is 14, I think. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, magic has always screwed me up a little.)

Looks to me like Jolt is just an electric Acid Splash. It requires a Ranged Touch attack to hit and allows no save.

Curiously its also apparently a "rare" cantrip, with GM approval required...for whatever reason...

Male Human Sorcerer (Eldritch Scrapper)/1

Knew it was ranged, didn't know it was rare. I just selected it since Ford's draconic blood is from a Bronze Dragon, so he's naturally in tune with using electric spells. Don't know why it'd be rare though...

The majority of the goblins gasp at the stunning display of magic, their eyes growing wide with fear, but their anger at this surprise attack keeps them focuses.

Three of the gobs, however, start with surprise and at shaken for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds.

Ford - Invoking the electrical powers of his Draconic heritage, Ford shoots delicate tendrils of electricity out of his fingers at the nearest goblin, but they arc wide and do not manage to harm it.

Ford snarls in frustration as his electrical powers miss their mark. He knew he hadn't quite mastered them yet, but even so... no matter. They were goblins; perhaps he could merely scare them off with a mighty display.

Baring his claws and summoning his most guttural voice, Ford roared at the little menaces before shouting. "Be gone from here, pests, before my servants of the darkness swallow you whole!"
