Bree Longfield |

Bree looks to Sable as he begins his dark speech, her eyes widen slightly as she takes in his promise of death to those who might harm the group. As he draws his sickle and lowers the staff, her eyes dart back and forth between the weapon and Korax sitting upon the staff. She finds that she may need to reassess the threat level of this strange man and his feathered friend.

Bree's attention turns from Sable, and she notes that when the church bells start ringing, they drop everything and scatter.
Bree cocks her head to the side and speaks out loud but to no one in particular, "Well now, that's odd. I wonder..."
Her voice trails off as she stands up and creeps over to the edge to peer out into the open.

Smooth.
Bree tenses at the contact Does he want me to stab him?!. She grits her teeth and forces herself to relax, and offers no more than a nod of her head. Her eyes continue to search the darkness. Since it is night and Bree knows the others can see better than she can, she will quietly reach back and grab Sweeney's shirt and tug gently, indicating she wishes for him to move forward, in the hopes that his eyes might pick up something her's don't.

Winter Snow |

Seeing the others drawing their weapons, Winter does likewise.
The lengthy sound of steel grating upon the scabbard emphasises the size of the greatswords blade.
Hefting the significant amount of cold steel up on to his shoulder in readiness, he continues to move with the group, his superior Darkvision allowing him to pick out details in the darkness.

Bree Longfield |

Bree touches the tip of her knife to Sweeney's back, ever so gently, for just a moment before removing it and placing the tip of the blade against her lower lip. Plastering the same smile he just gave her, onto her own face.
Well if Sweeney's actions didn't ruin Bree's stealth roll, I'm sure Winter's just did, lol

In the Alleyway
Sweeney and Bree stare out into the darkness of the street, unable to see anything other than the forgotten pile of rags.
Korax squawks to Sable. It almost sounds like the bird is talking.
Winter sees the mob fighting over the rags, and watches them scatter as the church bell rings.
The rings echo across the district, muffled by the fog drifting through the streets.
With your darkvision, you see them attempting to hide in the shadows. You recognize them immediately as the two that you saw at the Foxy Fiddler.

After a few minutes, there is no follow-up shot from the rooftop, nor any pursuit out on the lawn.

Winter Snow |

Bree: I don't think Stealth is Winters strong point, that said, most eyes will probably be fixed on him :p
Winter halts the party, looks directly at the pair of stalkers and projects his voice commandingly.
"Enough. I see you clearly in the shadows, and bid you step into the light, lest I mistake your cautiousness for far darker intentions"
He continues in Elvish
"You have nothing to fear from us, brothers, do we have something to fear from you?"

"Yes, it seemed a fine nest..."
Sable nods to Korax smiling, but hearing Winter speak into the darkness, he takes a step towards the alley front and looks into the shadows, and also up to the sky to note the location of the Blot.

Sebastian DeGray |

The weariness of the day had been catching up to Sebastian, till he hears Winter's challenge.
"Ho"
He is quickly on his feet and draws his sword off his back as well, nearly as long as Winter's but the blade was much thinner and curved.
With figures in the dark, he also comes up with a small piece of brick, prepared to cast Light on it if needed.

Sebastian DeGray |

Sebastian wrote:"His nearly as long as Winter's but much thinner and curved."o_O
That's the kind of bad editing I get while trying to get a post in while while talking with the wife and continuously throwing chew toys across the room for my dogs.

roflol @sebastian
Peering into the darkness, Sable also sees the two elves.
At Winter's request, they stop, then step forward into the moonlight--the blot having drifted out towards the harbor.
Elf (in elven): "Stay your sword warrior of Riddleport. We have no qualm with you or your lot."
He moves closer, exposing his bare hands. "We are guests of your city, and have lost our...companion. There is word she'll be at the water's edge, near a church."

Winter Snow |

Elf (in elven): "Stay your sword warrior of Riddleport. We have no qualm with you or your lot."
Relaxing his posture (but not disarming)...
"There are more threats in this street than simply you and I"
"You mistake me, brother, for I am not a Warrior of Riddleport and this isn't "my city", indeed I am down from the mountains and a friend of the Elves who range the alpine woods. You may have lost your companion, but fortunately we have found her, and she is being given good aid to recovery and is safe from harm. If indeed she is your companion, and not your victim, then perhaps she will come find you eh?"
"Perhaps you have more you wish to tell us, should it be that our purposes are actually one and the same? Like what you might know of poisoned barbs?"

Sebastian DeGray |

Are these the two from the Foxy Fiddler? I didn't get a look at them earlier, but the odds are astronomical that another pair of elves follow us into an alley looking for a missing friend.
Sebastian lowers his sword but does not put it away. As he approaches Winter and the Elves, he hears Winter's response. Whoa, whoa, whoa..well at least he didn't reveal her location. And then the good questions...no subtly at all in Winter.

Kaylen |

Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Assuming the coast is clear in all directions, Kaylen moves back to her former place in the shadow of the church's entrance, trying to keep a view of the river from where she's standing to see who shows up.
Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26, if a second set of rolls is needed.
Seems we got a bit of a sword measuring contest out here. Should Kaylen pop out of nowhere and pull hers out to measure?

Winter Snow |

"Nothing personal friend, but an assassin would know the first, and similarly have asked the second...and would probably be found lurking in shadows. So if it's all the same, you'll forgive my not volunteering her whereabouts."
"If you were her comrade though, you'd know what she was up to and the source of her injury, perchance you'd be kind enough to tell us what you know of it all?"

Tom SD GM |

These are the same two elves from the Foxy Fiddler.
They seem uneasy to say anything more, moving away from the party, glancing up and down the street.
Whispering to each other, the speaker moves forward again. "We were separated earlier this week. She said she had business with the Cypherlodge, but wouldn't say what exactly."

Winter Snow |

"We were separated earlier this week. She said she had business with the Cypherlodge, but wouldn't say what exactly."
"Then thank you for sharing what you know. Let us know where you can be found when she wishes to rejoin you and we will see that the location is conveyed in due course. In the meantime we bid you good evening; it is rather late, and no person with honest business would be out and about at this hour."
There is a finality in his tone.

Winter Snow |

Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Winters head snaps around quickly, the expression somewhere between shocked and scandalised. He looks at Bree for a moment... there is a brief sign of some rapid thinking taking place and then his look softens.
"I accept that this is your way, and life is just another thing exchanged for currency in your culture, but it is not in mine; I cannot consider such an offer, as it is far from just or righteous and would ask that you not do so either in this girls plight"
Wouldn't have expected any different!

Sweeney |

Hearing Bree's suggestion and Winter's retort, Sweeney can't help but smile and chuckle to himself. "Well for what it's worth, I think it was a good idea."
Shifting to a more serious tone, he makes no effort to hide his movements as he unslings his crossbow from his shoulder and poises one finger over the trigger, loading a quarrel with his other hand. "Something tells me we're going to regret getting involved in this situation sooner or later. Shall I make these two regret it as well?"
Intimidate check:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
To the elves,"Are you sure there's nothing else you would like to add?"

Winter Snow |

"omething tells me we're going to regret getting involved in this situation sooner or later."
"Erastil shall guide us true and safe from harm; be just, and fear not"
Winter does nothing to intervene in the intimidation taking place.

Sebastian DeGray |

What is she looking at? Sebastian thinks uncomfortably.
Seeing the others tensing with their weapons, Sebastian studies the two Elves. He observes all possible weapons, how comfortable they carry them, their clothes and cloaks and how they might affect their mobility. He plans attacks against each and calculates the chances of success.

Bree Longfield |

She gives a self-conscious shrug to Sweeney's praise, "I thought so. Never said we had to tell them everything, and she is protected where she's at. What's this guy got against making a few extra coins?"
When Sweeney begins to ready his crossbow, Bree steps back from him so as to not impede his movements. She moves the dagger already in her hand into an underhanded position and draws another in her offhand, likewise in an underhanded position. She sees no point in trying to mask her movements either, seeing as weapons have already been drawn by most everyone.

Tom SD GM |

The speaker nods to Winter, "The city is stifling. We are staying in a small copse of trees to the north."
Seeing Sweeney's crossbow, the elf in the shadows backs away, speaking elven...
Sorry everyone...work is way more tiring here...a 40 minute drive home tends to do me in. :/

Winter Snow |

The immediate threat gone, and without any further ado, Winter looks to continue to the safe harbour to get some rest and time to prepare for the dawns rough work.
Can be tiring til you get into the routine. :) Just glad you got work so fast!

Sebastian DeGray |

Sebastian will sheath his blade and pick up his crossbow again.
"Nice job Winter, thank you. Those two were prepared for trouble, which I guess we are, armed in this alley as we are. But, they don't seem to keep the same friends as Aetheri, nor helped her when she was in distress."
"We must be careful of spies in this matter. Many would happily take a coin to follow us back to our friend."
