Zaladrel Orain |

Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Zaladrel nods at Ulf, Yes I would hate for anyone to be caught unawares. ( HA!) Perhaps it best we take up a position here and have Proudstump and Namuril quickly scout around the compound.

DM Wellard |

The circle inside the gate appears to be a pit of some sort. Not very deep but you cant see the bottom.
"I can look after mesel' Lad that thing only got me cos it caught me by surprise and unarmed. " Proudstump sounds offended by the suuggestion that he needs assistance "You lot concentrate on the front end..
No-one can see any goblins or indeed any sign of life whatsoever

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

I would guess the buildings are 3-5 feet up off the ground, both to remove the goblins from the reach of ground predators and to get them off of the floodplain. Of course, that's more real-world stuff and not in-game terms, so...yeah. >.>

Zaladrel Orain |

Zaladrel will quietly slip his longsword and backpack off his back and places the items on a spot where hey can be easily retrieved later. Swinging his bow off his back Zaladrel seem lighter on his feet as he crouches and joins the approach to the goblin gate. I am no longer suffering from medium encumbrance, my base speed is back @ 40
Trying to keep is voice low Zaladrel whispers at the group, Should some of us take the high ground or should we stay together and enter the camp together?

Runa |

Runa whispers back to Zaladrel, "I think we should stay together. I do not like this quiet, it may be a trap of some sort!" She looks over at the ladder, then motions the others towards it. As stealthy as she can, she moves over to it, scoops up Tofa and quickly climbs up to the landing above.
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Lissa Tesarani |

Lissa draws her sword slowly, as silently as possible. She performs a mental checklist of the rituals for her spells.
"It's too quiet here," she whispers to no one in particular. The mental image of "Proudstump" splitting apart to reveal that thing runs through her mind. "I don't like it."
Keeping my eyes open for any sign of ambush.
Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
I am all-seeing!

Namuril Xae-Tal |

Namuril follows Omara through the remnants of the gate, scanning the compound for any lurking goblins. His eyes dart side to side, lingering briefly on each hut, searching in shadows, looking for a movement, listening for the sound of goblin-feet pattering through the mud behind him . . .
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
He shakes his head and grins, almost a grimace, and exhales slowly. "It is indeed too quiet. The anticipation is wearing on me worse than goblin-steel."

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

Looking back to Tavlor, Úlf shook his head, giving him a quiet pat on the shoulder. "Is no reason to fear this now. Is not even sign of goblins leaving. Is strange for us not to hear them singing, yes? We should wait to hear what Proudstump say before assuming worst."

DM Wellard |

Ulf is right the walkways are 4-5 feet off the ground
A cursory glance into the pit beyond the gate reveals the remains of a funeral pyre and the mostly cremated remains of about a dozen goblins.
Runa pushes open the door before her and almost retches at the stink.Fortunately no goblins are present to take advantage of her momentary nausea.
The hut seems to have been home to half a dozen or so goblins going by the number of makeshift beds in the place. It is toatally deserted with no sign of combat or struggle.

Zaladrel Orain |

I'm not so sure that its goblins we need fear at this moment Tavlor... Zaladrel's voice trails off as he looks around the camp. Was it disease? Did they burn their own dead? Or did something ambush them and kill them unawares?
Zaladrel shakes his head as he follows the group. Hopefully we'll find something other than more questions.
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Lissa Tesarani |

"What if more of those things got to these goblins as well?" Lissa states just loudly enough for everyone nearby to hear. She pokes at the burned remains of the goblins with the tip of her sword.
I'm having flashes from The Thing where they check out the Norwegian camp running through my head.

Zaladrel Orain |

@ Lissa EXACTLY what I was thinking!!! That is awesome.
Zaladrel's eyes linger on the larger square hut to the south. Pausing for a moment to assess his options Zaladrel sighs slightly, I think we should go this way, something caught my eye. Zaladrel turns in the direction of the hut and notches an arrow. Perhaps you would like to look first friend Ulf? Be cautious that you don't let the stink get to you when you open the door... Zaldrel's voice fades as he ticks his head in the direction he is hoping the group to go.

Namuril Xae-Tal |

Namuril eyes linger on the guard post momentarily before he steps over to Zaladrel and Ulf. "I believe that smaller square building is a guard post of sorts; the upper floor is windowed. I'd inspect it, but I think we should move as one. Lone exploration may be foolhardy. Are you thinking of inspecting this hut?" He points to the large square hut they're looking at.

Zaladrel Orain |

Zaladrel inclines his head slightly towards the hut, Symud

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

Úlf takes a deep breath, nodding. It's quiet enough here, and he thinks it very doubtful that there are any goblins about...but even so...discretion is the better part of valor, right? He crept across the ground toward the structure in question, trying to be as quiet as he could. However, he knew that he was far from trained in stealth, and his armor was probably going to make some noise, too. Even so, he tried, keeping his eyes and ears on the alert as he went.
Stealth: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 19
He was much quieter than he thought he was going to be...when he reached the door, he slipped up to it, his grip on his axe tightening as he edged the door open a few inches.

DM Wellard |

As Ulf makes to push open the door his armour chinks more than he would like.A hurried whisper can be heard inside the hut at which Ulf slams the door open to reveal 4 goblins
No Surprise round we will be straight into combat.Tactical Map will be coming later today.
Round 1
Initiative
Namuril 21
Goblins 17
Ulf 16+
Lissa 16
Tavlor 14
Omara 12
Runa 3+
Zaladrel 3

Lissa Tesarani |

"Goblins!" Lissa shouts and runs towards the tower.
"Confn forth de wer Treskri di Edar batobot svabolen sho'vothic!" Lissa's fingers trace the summoning runes through the air as she draws the glob of acid from across the planes. In mid run she hurls it over Úlf's shoulder at the face of the nearest goblin.
Acid Splash at the closest goblin 1d20 ⇒ 18 (vs. touch)

Namuril Xae-Tal |

Namuril levels his curve blade and strides to the goblin closest to him, slicing at the little creature's midsection.
I'd like to move and engage a close goblin, hopefully without blocking Ulf from charging, should he want to.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

Quick little buggers, ain't they?
Úlf grins with glee at finally having more of the vile little creatures to swing his axe at and he moves to the next-closest goblin other than the one Namuril is attacking, swinging his axe in a horizontal chop.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Bah. They can't all be gems, I guess.

Zaladrel Orain |

As a free action Zaladrel says, Prisoners may help us better understand what happened here!
I'll post my actions after the Goblins go since I am last, again. Sad face that DM Wellard's posts roll low for the cleric :-P

DM Wellard |

Apologies guys the Map is taking a little longer than I hoped..severe lack of time yesterday.
@Tavlor..your last action was to state you were heading for the centre of the buildings.theres no way you could have got there without passing through these goblins and I'm assuming given his experience this Morning that Tavlor would not want to get too far away from the others or take the lead..the Map will reflect this.

DM Wellard |

Hmm..I posted the tacmap last night and it didn't stick..just discovered this will correct it when I get home in about 4 1/2 hours apologies for the delays.
However I can resolve the early parts of the fight without a Map.
Namuril hearing the goblins shouts pushes through and into the building engaging goblin 1 but failing to hit.
The Goblin strikes back in return 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Miss
Two goblins move to engage the hulking form of Ulf standing in the doorway both manage to inflict nasty gashes upon him
Goblin 21d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 Hit Damage 1d4 ⇒ 4
Goblin 31d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Hit Damage 1d4 ⇒ 4
The last goblin produces one of those tubes you saw earlier and points it towards the doorway discharging a ball of flame at Ulf but hitting the wall beside him..
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1 Miss
Ulf finds his swing restricted by the cramped conditions of the hut and is unable to score a hit in return
Lissa appears behind Ulf and launches a sickly green bolt of acid at the firework wielder who shrieks in pain as it burns him badly.
