DM Vord's Zeitgeist Act I - Portents of a Starry Sky

Game Master Vorduvai

"Times are turning. The skyseers – Risur’s folk prophets since their homeland’s birth – witness omens in the starry wheels of heaven, and they warn that a new age is nigh. But what they cannot foresee, hidden beyond the steam and soot of the night sky, is the face of this coming era, the spirit of the age. The zeitgeist."

Have to agree with you there!

As we head into the weekend with another week remaining on player interest and character submissions, I just want to say that I'm very excited about the players here who have expressed interest and are (and/or have) put forth submissions for joining the Zeitgeist game!

For a long while I had some trepidation on opening this up to the PbP player world, as the game is very special to me. I'm heartened to see that there are some intelligent and interested PbP players out there who are looking for the type of game I'm running and a shared story that we're all coming up with together.

As always, if you have any questions you need answered (gameplay style, character creation questions, storylines, etc.), please do not hesitate to post them in Discussion or PM me.

Well there's an obvious choice there :D

Gotta have a little random to make it interesting...though at times I wonder if the RNG isn't a bit streaky.

Somebody actually did a test of how random the RNG on the boards actually are (with a sample size of 10000 I believe) and their results were nearly perfect distribution. I think it was off by a thousandth of a percent, which is incredible.

On the other hand, I experienced this in one of my past games.

Here's Feth's submission. Crunch is up minus the gear. I'll have the fluff done in the next day or two. I'm recycling an old alias.

RNG is a fickle mistress.

Oh indeed.

I often make offerings to RNJesus.

WOW. Just wow. I've never seen that before, either on the boards or at the tabletop with dice. Triple hero points burned in a single round thinks that's simply incredible.

Dark Archive

I recently had a DM roll triple 20's against me, I was convinced that I was about to re-roll a new PC but after I scrolled down I could see that none of them confirmed. I was convinced the dicebot was out to get me until I rolled double 20's against him a few pages later, so I guess it all balances out.

I've fleshed out Logan quite a bit further. I'm still not entirely done, but I'm pretty happy with how it's going. Logan Golhearth

Liberty's Edge

Dot for interest. I will read the background and decide.

A question, a Vekeshi Mystic is playable in this campaign?
A human can follow this philosophy/religion?

From what I have seen so far from the player guide it seem possible.

That or the martial scientist vould be my preferred themes. Both seem to work very well with an inquisitor.

Hi Diego Rossi!

A human certainly can take the Vekeshi Mystic character theme. Of course it may mean they have a very different outlook on the eladrin elves, elvendom and the fey than other PC's! It's a challenging character theme as while it doesn't set the character at odds with the R.H.C., it means they serve more than one entity - the campaign offers side arcs that pertain to just the Vekeshi alone.

I would like to present Jesselle Wesmere for consideration, an Archivist Bard.

Liberty's Edge

I am impressed and awed by the backdrop the current players prepared.
Currently I don't have the right inspiration to prepare something at that level in a few days, so I retire.
I will prepare something for the future, so that I will have it ready if you open a new ticket for the campaign.

I should have my fluff up in the next day or two.

My thanks Diego Rossi for the kind words on this Zeitgeist game and its participants! Though its a long road, it's a great story to tell.

Don't mind me. Rolling HP.

Yeah, I'm going to have to withdraw. Whilst I think I can handle the level of RPing required for this campaign, there's only half of the story. Currently, what matters most is the character creation and the backstory itself.

And that is what I lack in. During a campaign, I'm brilliant at coming up scenes and tibits from my character's backstory. But before hand? Against what everyone else is construscting? I can never hope to compare. So, I wish everyone the best of luck.

Hi Fury. Sorry to hear that. I was looking forward to your character concept.

This looks exceedingly cool. I'm still reading the Zeitgeist book but I'm already getting ideas. Posting so I can come back to this thread easily.

EDIT: Before I go to bed, thought I'd throw out my preliminary idea; a scouting specialist in the form of an Unchained Rogue, with a Martial Scientist theme. Basically, he'd be well equipped to sneak ahead, deal with traps, and report back with intelligence, while fighting exceedingly dirty if he got caught and still fighting exceedingly dirty when the party actually engages in a fight.

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to withdraw as well. I rather unexpectedly found my way into two other games. I don't think I'll have the ability to give this game the attention this game deserves.

Thanks for the consideration and good luck to everybody else that applied.

I like it Josh, we do need a scout too. Try to make him do max sneak damage too so you can take targets out silently as possible.

So, this wouldn't be for a while yet, no need to answer now, but would you be averse to devising a new Equipment Trick feat tree for Magecuffs or Manacles? Things like catching yourself from a fall, cuffing someone in melee combat or from stealth, that kind of thing. It seems like a pretty cool skill to have but if you don't want to be bothered with the hassle that's fine. Don't feel pressured to decide; I'd need to wait until 5th level to get it, since I have plans for my Level 3 feat and Level 4 Talent.

All of this assuming I can even make it into the game, what with my lack of prior history on the Paizo boards.

My fluff is up now, it's in my profile

Glad to see you Josh.Ingle! Just to comment on this. An Unchained Rogue w/ Martial Scientist is certainly a viable and interesting class for this campaign, with the roles described certainly good ones. I would just say that, whatever the class/theme/crunch specifics, it has to mesh with being a professional and loyal constable of the R.H.C. In other words, not an assassin type or scoundrel. Though there are constables that can be considered spies and agents with more 'black ops' skills, they are not the norm and have to operate in a well-rounded fashion.

EDIT: In terms of working with the character on something like what you're suggesting with the manacles or equipment maneuver and such, I wouldn't be opposed to it at all.

Thanks Feth! I look forward to reading it.

@All: Just a reminder that I will be taking submissions for the campaign through this Friday (12/11). I'll be in my monthly role-playing game for Saturday, but intend on making decisions for campaign invites by Sunday evening.

That type toon can adjust to the mission as well, instead of kill or manacle which would fit in the non-assassin slot, he can knock them out cold too. It's not every time we are going to have a silence spell or coin.

Don't worry. I don't plan on making Felix an assassin. In fact, I think that the way he's developing he actually might have some problems with knives.

Everyone, meet Felix Lucas, the character whose dark secret was inspired by a PFS game in which I forgot to say I was attacking to deal nonlethal with my starknife and got a sneak attack critical with Underhanded active, on a Knifemaster.

In as few words as possible; he ded.

Anyway, what's the wealth for level 2? Standard WBL? Or should I just gear up with level 1 gold and wait to see if I'm accepted before upgrading to lv2 gear?

We have an odd setup. Strictly speaking, we don't have much wealth - but we do get brought up to WBL before every mission, and turn in what we find when we're done. Anneca uses a lot of her WBL to get consumables.

Hi Josh.Ingle! I've looked over Felix a bit and I am going to get caught up more fully tonight with it after work.

You certainly don't need to do gear for consideration, but the PC's are basically getting starting character class max. wealth +1000gp here at 2nd level. The increases are handled in-game as "stipend increases" from the R.H.C., so they come along for all the PC's at various points in the AP.

My thanks to everyone that has taken an interest in this campaign, and especially to those who put forth a character for consideration. I'll be finalizing decisions by Sunday and will communicate them here.

Cheers!
Vord

Conclusion of December 2015 Recruitment Session

First of all, I want to once again thank those that took a hard look at this campaign and its playstyle. It was a pleasure to chat with each of you and answer your questions and ideas.

I would especially like to thank those five players that took the time to submit a character and associated background:
* CampinCarl9127 - Logan Golhearth
* Feth - Fethryth Teldanona
* Xynen - Tobias Utegg
* Songdragon - Jesselle Wesmere
* Josh.Ingle - Felix Lucas

The submissions were all excellent, and making decisions was much tougher than I had expected going into this process. Unfortunately I cannot add all of the players, and ultimately had to limit it to three. Those three are:
* Feth - Fethryth Teldanona
* Xynen - Tobias Utegg
* Songdragon - Jesselle Wesmere

Thanks again for everyone's interest and effort!

Vorduvai

EDIT: Come on over and say hello in Discussion Tab!

Can I get any feedback for the future? I'm always looking to improve.

Pity. I was excited about this one. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you get another opening.

Absolutely Carl - you're on my short list to contact if something crops up here. Thanks for the effort on Logan!
