Neile would like to take the knotted gold ring, because it's shiny and she's a bit like a magpie that way. If it's magical and someone can make better use of it, she'll gladly give it up.
Neile squeezes Ulfr's hand and looks up at him with hopeful eyes. "We're gonna get out of here, right?" she asks quietly.
The hours pass as stories are passed back and forth. You learn that Anevia is married to Irabeth Tirablade who exposed a traitor in the crusader ranks last year. She relates tales of her travels and how Irabeth helped her out in a difficult spot. Aravashnial is a wizard of some skill with a special interest in conjuration. Most of his tales are from his apprenticeship and are quite funny, though he seems to avoid Anevia altogether and does his best to not anger Horgus. Horgus, however, is gruff, taciturn, and surly throughout the entire time you are traveling.
About eight hours after you start, everyone, especially Anevia and Aravashnial, is exhausted from the arduous trek in the Underdark. You find a defensible cave to camp in for the night as some dried mushrooms that Aravashnial confirms can be used as firewood. The air is cold and still, and the looming rock above you weighs down on the very soul.
Everyone but Neile and Tehina, give me a fort save.
Also, feel free to relate any tales you give the others as you travel. Once I've gotten a bedding down post from everybody, we'll move on.
Ulfr keeps a steady rhythm as the group walks. It's not loud enough to interfere with conversation or stories, but it's there. It keeps everyone in step and keeps them all going just a little farther.
(I actually get a class ability to help with marches later. :)
In general he just keeps everyone talking. He relishes stories and even tells a few ancient Sarkoran parables himself, but he mainly acts to keep everyone engaged.
As he beds down, he plays one final song on his large, hollow club using two smaller clubs. It is good entertainment and inspiring. It tugs at your tired bones and lights a fire in your blood.
Using a round of Raging Song and my Moment of Greatness spell to give myself a +2 on the fort save. Anyone who accepts the song also gets a +2 unless you have different bonuses, like Karas. In his case, Moment of Greatness doubles his own bonuses.

Rakeesh trudges along, nearly indefatigable, though sweating more than he is accustomed to in the dank caverns, and in the throws of sickness. After midday, though, his fever breaks and he begins to feel much better.
Once the mushroom stalks are well aflame, Rakeesh spends a long time staring into the heart of the fire. The ghouls and their priest are dead. Vengeance has been served. The flames crackle on without response.

The scene of the past days played in his head again. It was still hard to accept but the rythm kept his feet moving in time. She's gone but never forgottem. You're only forgotten when noone speaks your name. I will never let her be forgotten and the Storm King will pay dearly. Even if I have to dredge the Abyss to end his miserable existence.

Neile tilts her head at Anevia's story, a look of utmost puzzlement on her face. "Does it get confusing?" she asks. "When you meet new people, do they call you 'Mrs. and Mrs. Tirablade'? How do they know which Mrs. is which? D'you think she's okay up there?" Her confused expression crumbles into sorrow, and she strokes Gail's feathers for comfort.
She giggles at most of Aravashnial's tales, poking him in the shoulder. "You're funny when you're not being so serious," she grins. "Have to stay smiling!"
She engages little with Horgus, for fear of Slaver's voice whispering in her ear again.
Every now and then, in a moment of silence, she recounts a short memory - of gnolls tearing someone apart in Katapesh, or of a good hunt and a long winter's sleep, speaking as if from her own experience.
As the group beds down, she again offers Anevia her blanket - "Not much, but it'll keep you soft and warm" - and curls up under her heavy coat, next to Tehina this time. "'M jus' gonna sleep here, 'f that's 'kay with you," she mumbles, not waiting for a response before slipping into fitful slumber.

Tchirash:
You don't pick up much, other than Horgus likes neither of the other two, or any of you for that matter, and Aravashnial seems to be somewhat unfriendly with Anevia, though not quite to the point of rudeness. "I think the worst of it has passed," Rakeesh says in his convalescence. "Although you look like another day's rest wouldn't hurt," he says to Ulfr.
"I will take the first watch. I have... more... than just infirmities of the body to work through." Rakeesh draws his sword, spinning it into a guard, and moves towards the cavern entrance. After he moves out of range of the torchlight, the sounds of the blade slicing through the air as Rakeesh shadow-spars filter back into the cave.
You find yourself in a dark room, the only light from two glowing coals that seem to stare through you.
"Hello Rakeesh," a deep rumbling voice says, coming from the same direction as the coals, which you notice are eyes, "even you should have noticed my absence today, so tell me, what have you to say for yourself?"
The "night" passes slowly, and without trouble. Both Anevia and Aravashnial are beginning to look better, although both still have their more crippling injuries. Sadly, no breakfast awaits this morning.

Neile's sitting against the cavern wall, huddled under her coat when Ulfr approaches, like a child reading under her blankets with a sunrod. She pokes her head out, glaring at him. "Shhhhhh," she whispers, scowling. Then, gentler, "Under here. No singing. But you can listen." With that, she throws the coat over his head as well.
What follows is a lot of awkward, incoherent muttering, fidgeting (including accidentally elbowing Ulfr in the head once or twice) and long pauses - hardly singing the song of her spirits. At one point, she whimpers, clutching her knees to her chest and burying her face between them. Her shoulders shake as she clenches her fists, long, bony claws growing from her knuckles. When she throws off her coat and pulls it on normally, the claws remain; she turns them over, looking at them in the eerie fungus light.
"Look, Scaly-Man!" she calls, grinning her usual lopsided grin at Karas. "They're like yours!" Looking back up at Ulfr as she wakes her pets, she adds, "This is Bear's way of helping. Slaver shows me where to hit people to hurt them, which is useful. People don't look at you so funny when you don't have claws." She counts off on her claws as she continues. "There's also Shaman, he's really wise. He doesn't talk much, though. Then there's Prince; he's funny! And- and Killer." She swallows hard, looking at the ground. "Killer's scary. But Bear is nice. He's old, but he cares. And this is how he helps. He's also good at breaking stuff. Today, with him helping, I'll be good at breaking stuff, too."

Ulfr inspects the claws without the slightest awkwardness. He isn't sure exactly what he just experienced, but it's effects were obvious. The girl just needed some lessons is all. These are well made, little one. Several of my tribe could manifest claws as well, though they tended to resemble eagle talons and not persist as yours do. May you use them well.
Hearing Karas and Bimbur talk about meditation Tehina can't help but comment, "Meditation does not require monastery's or much study. All you need to do is pull your focus inward, centre yourself. An easy way to try is to find yourself a quiet place, sit down, close your eyes and focus completely on your breathing or your heartbeat."
places her hands on her stomach and closes her eyes, "You should try to breath through your belly and keep a stead pace."
The feelings are vague, but there are distinct feelings that you can match to each of the spirits she mentions. Slaver feels like hatred and self-aggrandizement. Killer like despair and a longing to cause fear in others. The Prince like mischief and cunning wit. The shaman feels like sitting in front of a campfire, listening to the songs of your ancestors and learning the wisdom of your elders.
But it is Bear that is most startling. A sense of ancient wisdom and memory fills you when you feel Bear about. You can't be certain, but this might be one of the ancient spirits of Sarkois you seek.
Neile:
During the seance, you feel as if there's a connection to Ulfr through Shaman and Bear, as if something about the man rouses long held memories of a time before the Demons.
"Stay near this one," Shaman murmurs, "he is of the old blood."
"Agreed," Bear grumbles softly, "perhaps when you have gained more control over the power you wield, we can be a boon to both of you."
As the group moves through the caverns, Aravashnial speaks up.
"Um, Neile, was it? Can you tell me more about how you contact those spirits of yours? Maybe even when it started, if that's not too much trouble."
"What's there to know," Horgus grumbles just loudly enough to be heard, "she's a freak!"

In his dreams...:
Rakeesh finds himself spinning his sword through attack routines, just as before he drifted to sleep. The eyes are unfamiliar, but the power behind the voice is unmistakeable.
"Shall I tell you the story of 'Nameless'?" Rakeesh replies. "I was shackled and diseased and dying, outnumbered and outmatched... Even with all of my tremendous strength, I could not bring my fist to bear against that abomination. Yet, I destroyed him. I brought vengeance upon him!"
"What more could I have done?"
Rakeesh continues to sleep fitfully late into the morning, seemingly deaf to the sounds of the rest stirring...
The eyes flare with holy fire, briefly letting you glimpse his face.
This is indeed Ragathiel, and he is not happy.
"You spoke as if you had given up, offering to lead those abominations to slaughter and feast upon those that remain in Kenebres," the Empyreal Lord says simply, "You may have sown the discord that lead to it, but it was not by your hand Torag's fallen priest met his doom."

"Come on, you crazy kids," she chuckles, lifting her hat and shaking gail out of her hair. "Can't hide there!" When Karas ruffles her hair, she giggles, squirming away from the touch like a child. "Not so big, though. You're a lot lot bigger."
She continues to stick close to Ulfr as the group continues on, pondering Bear and Shaman's words. When Aravashnial asks his question, she turns to look at him, walking backwards as she ponders an answer, but Horgus' interruption makes her slam her mouth shut, swallowing hard in shame.
"They said the same thing, you know," she says quietly. "I was happy with my friends, until They told me I was a Freak, a Liability, that I was Dangerous. That was when I ran, and I never stopped running, never stopped hiding. I'm one of the many, the few. The lonely lost who linger in the lives you leave behind, we find our way alone on the roads and in the streets and we roam and weep and sleep alone. We hide because of people like you, people who brush us away, dismiss us, because we're Different, we're Wrong, we're Freaks!" She stamps one foot and turns back to face the front, staring ahead with a stony expression as she continues. "She was a scared little girl, not sure what was wrong with her, until she ran. Then she had nobody to help, and she despaired, shared her pain with no-one. Nobody helped, nobody cared, nobody saw. She waited and she watched and she hoped but nobody noticed, so she never got better, if there was any chance of it in the first place. She's cold, and she's hungry, and she's alone and scared, because she's a Freak. But she has company. Oh yes," she whispers, "lots of company. Because they never sleep, do they? The dead don't need to sleep."
Taking a deep, shaky breath, she adds to Aravashnial, "Eight winters passed in silence, then the whispers began. Soft at first, but louder as the nights grew longer. I talk to them all the time, and they talk to me. Not talking to myself, there's always someone to listen. There's five. All are different. They all help. But Slaver was the first. He used to hurt people, when he was alive. But now that I'm alive and he's not, he tries to make me hurt people, instead. He helps me use my fists, a walking weapon. When I hit someone, he knows where to hit them again to make them hurt even more. Dreaming on...:
Quite despite himself, Rakeesh falls to knees against the bared power of the Empyreal Lord.
Ragathiel wrote:
"You spoke as if you had given up, offering to lead those abominations to slaughter and feast upon those that remain in Kenebres," the Empyreal Lord says simply.
"I spoke because no other weapon was afforded me! And I sundered my enemies more completely with my tongue, than I was able to manage with my sword."
Ragathiel wrote:
"You may have sown the discord that lead to it, but it was not by your hand Torag's fallen priest met his doom."
"Those creatures were slaves to the will of Nameless for years beyond counting. How many more decades, centuries, eons might he have ruled? No, it was not my own hand that leveled the killing blow, but even you must admit it was by my will that he is destroyed."
Rakeesh chances a look into the eyes. "We were routed. My companions were chained to the wall around me. The others fled... a broken woman, a blind elf, and a rancorous nobleman - following a novice mage and a mind-splintered waif. I had every reason to lose hope, to surrender. And yet, I set upon my enemies, broke their lines, and destroyed their leader."
"I do not know who or what that creature was, that appeared with my allies. I do not know why she fought on our side, or why she vanished into the darkness after the last ghoul fell. I confess, I had put no thought to being rescued by mysterious apparitions with enormous swords."
Ragathiel wrote:
The eyes narrow. "So tell me, my foolish servant, did you truly mean to join them if you had not been given salvation by your comrades?"
"I meant to destroy them!" Rakeesh shouts. "I personally felled two of the abhorrent things, turned their general, and unseated their lord. Even if that wanderer had never appeared, they would all have lay dead at my feet before long. What greater bane could I have inflicted on them?"
"It seems I misjudged you, Rakeesh," Ragathiel says, a hint of mirth edging his words, "It is not often a mortal will stand to an Empyreal Lord, mush less one who had so recently found himself a subject of that Lord's displeasure."
Smoky red light begins to glow from braziers in the large hall. The light shines on Rakeesh and his lord. Ragathiel reaches out and hauls the paladin to his feet.
"A cunning tongue and a sharp mind are devestating weapons, and you did plant the seeds of discord among them, but those are dangerous weapons to your allies as well. Consider what might have happened if one of them had thought you had given in to despair," he says, much more seriously this time, "you are a one of the holy warriors blessed with divine power. Here in these lands infected by the Abyss, people look to you for leadership, strength, and courage. Show them that they do not look in vain, my servant. Do not forget that your words have an effect on more than just those you wish them to."
Ragathiel places a hand on Rakeesh's forehead. Divine fire once more flows through you.
"Turn your enemies against each other, but never give up. Never surrender. Spit defiance until the bitter end. This is what it means to serve me."
With that, you find yourself awake, your connection restored, and a little of what was taken from you given back.

First off, Congratulations! I'm excited to be running this and I hope that I can challenge you for at least the first half of the adventure. I'm going to try streamlining this a bit, especially in later parts to keep things going pretty quickly. After all, I'm more interested in the RP than seeing how quickly you guys can pick apart a balor. :D
Speaking of RP, sadly, the RP thread from before is not canon. It never happened, in other words.
So, a few things about me, in case you've never played with me as the GM before. I live in Alabama in the US. I'm 25 and I've been playing Pathfinder for almost four years.
I don't mind if you have read, played, or GM'd this AP before, but I do ask you to not metagame. I also don't mind if you peek at spoilers meant for others, although they are in spoilers for a reason. Again, please keep player and character knowledge separate. Combat is done in a down and dirty block initiative. Whichever group has the highest initiative goes first, and he who posts first acts first. It will probably make the Rocket Tag issue worse at higher levels, But Ronnie and Choon can tell you, that if it will make a better story, I'll cheat shamelessly and I tend to play a little loose with the rules. If you're not sure if you can do something, ask, I'll probably have you roll something to see if you succeed.
That said. Let me know if you want to work on something or get this party started. Once everyone's ready, I'll get the party started.
Oh, and don't forget to dot the gameplay thread. I'm sure you would like to know when something happens.

Ah, introductions, of course.... I am in North Carolina, southeastern United States, GMT-5 (actually, during daylight savings time I think it's GMT-4), 36 years old, and have been playing Pathfinder since Sandpoint was just a dot on the map...
I run a restaurant, so... when you see posts at 7am, 5pm, 11pm, and 3am you will understand... I keep a very strange schedule.
I'm actually on the other side of the puddle, in the Netherlands so that's GMT+1 (or +2 in about two weeks due to daylight savings). I'm 27 and I've been playing DnD for 11-12 years and Pathfinder for about half of that.

Hi, folks! Super stoked to be here, and looking forward to bringing a little bit of crazy to the game.
For those who don't know me, my name's Veronica (though I usually answer to Ronnie), and I'm a 24-year-old Aussie lass who's most relieved that the worst of our summer heat has passed. I've been playing Pathfinder for about three years now, and I've come to know some pretty nifty people on the boards. (*waves to Salsa and Ulfr*)
I can confirm that Salsa plays a bit fast and loose with the rules at times, and that every game of his I've been in has quickly developed fantastic role-play among the party.
I do have one request... I've made some truly sub-optimal choices in my build, simply because I'm still trying to work out where I want to take Neile. If anyone has suggestions (particularly feat-wise), that would be great. In the absence of things that jumped out at me mechanically, I went for flavour, but I fear it may cripple me!

Yay! I got picked! I'm really excited for this one and am so humbled to be chosen. There were so many good characters.
I'm Choon, the one referenced above, and I'm in a couple of Salsa's other games. Beware of character tortu... I mean trials. This one has a cruel streak, that he does. ;)
Anyway, I'm 29 and I live in Kentucky, US, GMT -5 as well. I also have a crazy schedule as I am a Sign Language Interpreter by profession and am essentially on call 24/7.
I've been playing Pathfinder for 4-5 years (can't remember exactly when I started) with practically no RPG experience before that.
To be honest I haven't taken a proper look at the Occult playtest yet. So far it seems decent, Combat Reflexes is always ok. Is Endurance a bonus feat or did you take it? If the latter I'd say that would qualify as sub optimal, but that's somewhat obvious.
Besides that I'm a Samsaran Conjurer Wizard with 22 Int at lvl 1 so I can probably cover for you :P

I'd have to read through the class again to give specific advise. I'll try to do that today.
As for endurance, if you're using that to mitigate the penalties of sleeping in your coat, I'd say you sleep under your coat, not in it. Donning an armored coat is a simple thing.
Also, I think your attack and damage values are 1 too high. 19 str is still a +4 if I remember correctly.
By the way, feel free to pick my build apart. This is my first Skald. :)

Chose endurance so the street urchin can sleep in her armoured coat and not be fatigued. Because after looking over the huge list of feats available to me, and realising I couldn't even take power attack, I kinda wept. It's a bad choice, but I acknowledge that, and want to replace it with something, you know, useful.
That said, I'm a martial class with 3/4 BAB, simple weapons, and class features that can change from day to day, so my options are... Interesting.
Dwarf HP 11/11; AC 16/11ff/15t; Fort +4, Ref +4, Will +5 Init +4; Per+7/9stone CMD=17(21) Monk (Zen Archer) Perfect Strike 1/1
First this is going to be awesome. A friend of mine ran a game on the threads called big honking heroes with generous build guidelines, and the characters were truly memorable.
I guess I'm the old man in the group at 50 - been RPing since funny colored boxes of D&D, but found pathfinder to be the best. I am originally from Cincinnati, OH, but as a military guy I settled in Ft Walton Beach Fl (we are on Central time in the panhandle) in spring break paradise as I like the beach and hate winters.
Anyway, as a monk with a 22AC (26AC if our wizard has mage armor) I can cover for you too. I decided to be LG dwarf zen archer grumpy dwarf with a penchant for kleptomania.
How about them Buckeyes!! I graduated from OSU and spent more hours RPing than studying. Three QBs to choose from this year.
Dodge would seem thematic as well, evading the bigger, stronger vagrants. Not fantastic but it beats Endurance.
Beyond that, maybe there are some style feats you'd like to aim for that you can get prequisites for? Or prequisites for other things you want in the future.
I'll take a look at your Skald, you're actually using the same archetype combination I used in a tabletop oneshot recently.
EDIT: First thing, you can't grab Power Attack yet Ulfr, you need BAB 1 for it.
AC 18, T 14, FF 14; hp 5/12; F +3, R +3, W +4 (+2 vs. mind-affecting from evil outsiders); CMD 17; Init +3; Perception +6
Man, is Neile going to end up with Spoony Syndrome? ("Yeah, she's not really GREAT at anything, but, well, she's fun to keep around, so...") :P
I completely overlooked the "don as a move action" thing. *smacks forehead* I took it into consideration when choosing armour, and completely forgot about it when I got to feats...
Also, my attack and damage values are fine - 19 strength is indeed +4, but I'm currently channelling a strength spirit, The Beating, which gives me a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls. I also get an extra +2 damage against creatures I've already damaged, which is pretty neat. :-)
I've never run a skald before (unless Vivian counts), but I can give your fella a squiz at some point tomorrow. :-)
Dodge seems thematic and useful, so I might go with that. Unfortunately, IUS is a bonus feat from the spirit I'm currently channelling. If I channel someone else, I lose it. I can take feats that have IUS as a prerequisite, but if I lose IUS, I lose them as well.
As you can see, this is a pretty complex class. I'd say it's about on par with the base classes from Interjection Games :p

Bimbur is a little naïve by the way. Hope my first post wasn't too over the top, but since we had a Dutch person here, so my time in Amsterdam inspired me.

Ok, changed power attack and reckless rage to Skald's Vigor and Arcane Strike. I've lost out on some damage, but I'm slightly more accurate and have limited fast healing now.
Second, now that I know you're a Buckeyes fan, I can exact a little revenge for the Crimson Tide. >:D
Whew! Glad I'm an Appalachian State Mountaineer!
I'm happy I have no idea what you guys are talking about at all
Football (The 'Murican version) is what we're talking about. OSU beat Alabama in the playoffs for the National championship, so no Rammer Jammer that game. :(

Australia has a completely different type of football again. So we refer to soccer, American football, and football. Though we often refer to Australian rules football ('Aussie rules') as 'footy' (because we shorten everything if possible). It's actually pretty fun to watch an Aussie rules match - tackling isn't allowed, but you can 'mark' (ie, jump on someone else, using their body as a springboard to help you catch the ball). And from what little I've seen of American football, our version involves more kicking :p

Guys, I hope I'm not overdoing it with Neile. She's a bit crazy, and I'm trying to show that with her speech, but I don't want it to be annoying. If it starts to intrude on people's fun, just let me know. I plan on having her eventually cope better with it anyway, but I can nudge it along if it grows tiresome.

Bimbur, you and I are in the same boat, although you have about 2 years on me ;) I'm from Wisconsin, and in one form or another I've been playing Tabletop RPGs for over 30 years, and it just never loses its appeal.
Hail, hail, the gang's all here and I don't have to worry about who I have to pick! :D
I'll be moving things along when I get the chance. I'll also be setting up the battle map soon. If you want a particular image to represent your character, provide a link to it and I'll do the rest. All I ask is that it it's at least 100 x 100 pixels.
By the way, if some of my posts seem out of sequence a bit, it's only because I have cross-posted with you guys like four times, now! I must take too long crafting my posts, or something....

Yep that works. And don't worry about the cross posting. That's the beautiful thing about PBPs, you can always rewind stuff without derailing what's currently going on.

Soooo, it just kinda dawned on me that Tchirash is pretty much the healer for the group. Going to be interesting to see how the warpriest handles that.
