Another way of rolling Fate dice could be 4d6 and just look at the rolled numbers for each die. 1-2=- 3-4=0 5-6=+

Or you could go with 1d6-1d6

I picked the method I did because it involved the least conversions. What you roll is what your result is and no need to remember that 1-2 is a -, 3-4 is a blank, and 5-6 is a +. That said, if people seem to be having a lot of trouble, we can try other methods.

We could just think of the stereotypical roles on spaceships: Pilot, engineer, sensors/science station, shields, weapons, internal security/safety monitoring, and of course doctor. =)

My constant fear is that when we start talking about 'stations' some people might feel out of place, and any space combat will run the risk of being boring for some people. Also, it makes sense that the crew would discuss this before hand.

Hence, here's a little list that might be helpful. Whenever we do anything 'spacy' just report to a station and we'll see how things go. (Again, I'm assuming that we're going with FTL rules that someone at a station, even untrained, is better than just having no one at the station and leaving it up to the 'dog brain' AI of the computer).

Stations:

Pilot: Anton (Yes!)
Engineering: Sirus. (Duh!)
Sensors/Science station (think of the thing that Spock does): Aurora
Shields/Secondary Internal Security: Noreen
Navigation/Primary Internal Security: Travis
Secondary Weapons/Damage Control: Dax
Primary Weapons: Val

Huh. That...that was oddly easier and better than I thought it would be. If anyone has suggests or modification to this, feel free!

The list is really well done. I like it. One question, is “communications” a type of Sensors task, or does it fall under the Captain’s job to talk to other ships, authorities, etc.

I say we go with the Fined Tuned thing. Authorities we can handle, and we're already making bank, so the money would actually be entering diminishing returns, but having the ship do things whole bunch more betterer is always welcome.

Anyone mind if I invoke a new PbP rule I just learned about called the Rule of Two? It says whenever two members of the party say their gonna go somewhere or do something, that thing happens. (Obviously this isn't gonna happen 100%, but for minor things or for keeping the plot going it seems to work well. =)

I see Aurora and the good Doctor splitting up a lot of the science duties. She's got theoretical knowledge and Dax has the practical experince. Aurora also considers the ship's computer to be her baby. She's kind of like eccentric computer programmer in space.

I'm gonna -heavily- suggest that we all have Firefly-esque sleeping quarters (small, personal rooms) but a communal kitchen.
A communal kitchen provides all the plot-space we need for group activities, but communal sleeping quarters simply negates all the oh-so-juicy drama needed for...personal stories. ;-)
(Also, communal sleeping arrangements suck. Can speak from personal experience. Just...just don't do it. :p)

Sirus uses his "room" for personal storage. He sleeps in a hammock in engineering. :)
