This is probably where Spring attack will probably be the make or break and will have to somehow get my movement rate up right?

I am not sure, I know that Giants later will be hitting

Lets use a Hill giant as an example.

They have +14/9

He hits for 2d8+10, Balder while moving in to avoid the AoO gets to AC 24 right now, the Giant only needs a 10 to hit with the first attack and avg dmg is 18-20 dmg. Once Balder is in reach and no longer getting his +14 he needs 2 to hit and will Power attack if it figures out that Balder is esaier to hit.

I am not saying change your character, I am just saying that while moving in you can avoid a hit easier but once your close you are going to get pounded on.

Layer your AC items, maybe a wand of Shield and maybe a dip into Barbarian for the DR with Rage.

Also heavier armor would help quite a bit here.

Human Fighter 5 / AC 20 (+4 vs Reach, +4 Mobility Feat), Touch 11, Flat 18 / HP 49/40 / Init +1 / Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +4 (+1 vs Fear) / Perception +5

Well maybe one more level in Fighter to reduce my attack penalty with large weapons, and then maybe take levels in barbarian Armoured Hulk? Thoughts?

Totally up to you, how will you justify taking Barbarian levels?

Not that I would penalize you, just character progression

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

How about you read up on giants and check if you really need to worry that much. You can still buy an oversized spear, if you don't want to walk in.

Or change of tactics. As part of a readied attack you can make a five foot step. Wait for the giant, step closer and hit it.

M Dwarf Inquisitor(Living Grimoire) 32/37,Init5,F7R2W6,AC18T13FF16

Potions/spells of Enlarge?
Blur/Displacement spells?
Blink spell?
There was a high level Runelords game where everyone made high powered characters. The barbarian pretty much used armor just as say a carrier for special effects and used a Ring of Blinking to help avoid hits

As a Witch healer, I doubt I'll be able to supply that kind of magic consistently.

So blur and such would have to come from magic items.
Cloak of displacement, Ring of Blinking, Animated Shields, etc could all be used.

Having read the first 4 books multiple times I will tell you that once you Leave Trunau there is really no where to "shop" till almost the end of the 3rd book. That is a bit of a fault of the writers I will agree.

I am just letting you know Long term that Giants and their ilk will be a pain if you are getting struck by them since they have High HP, High BAB and High CMD/Fort

Human Fighter 5 / AC 20 (+4 vs Reach, +4 Mobility Feat), Touch 11, Flat 18 / HP 49/40 / Init +1 / Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +4 (+1 vs Fear) / Perception +5

Hmm.. touch call. Maybe I should just armour him up as much as possible.

I'll make a spare character in case his career is short lived.

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

How about power attack/furious focus? Dead giants don't do damage.

Human Fighter 5 / AC 20 (+4 vs Reach, +4 Mobility Feat), Touch 11, Flat 18 / HP 49/40 / Init +1 / Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +4 (+1 vs Fear) / Perception +5

That's what I was aiming for next level actually :)

Wait you can do lots of damage with that combination?
I would never have guessed. ;)

Lanneth runs off to tell her that nice paladin she met once at university.

Human Fighter 5 / AC 20 (+4 vs Reach, +4 Mobility Feat), Touch 11, Flat 18 / HP 49/40 / Init +1 / Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +4 (+1 vs Fear) / Perception +5

Huh?

Yeah I didn't take that yet cos I thought the damage I do for level 2 wasn't bad already.

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

You're doing fine here. It is just that we are discussing exotic options to get a problem solved that might lie somewhere in the future, while you don't have THE basic feat for every strength based melee fighter.

I am not trying to tell anyone how to play their PC, jsut offering opinions that later on Giants will be going Clubbing left and right.

M Dwarf Inquisitor(Living Grimoire) 32/37,Init5,F7R2W6,AC18T13FF16

Dain will hopefully be the ranged attacker for softening up.

You will level up again soonish don't worry

One more thing to consider:
Baldar will get hit a bit less as I should have the misfortune/cackling combo up and running soon.

True, I am just thinking long run

OK, the wand is expended, start using those potions of cure light because I've healed just about as much as I can today.

Dain and Gran't' I can hex you once, but that's pretty much it.

We need a loot sheet. All we got is spread all over discussion. Raltus, would you put a spreadsheet up? I can fill it.

I thought I did consolidate it a page back. So I think what's above is all that would need to be added to it.

But we do need to subtract anything that was taken and put on people's sheets.

The time delay of PBP makes it hard to remember items sometimes.

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

Got everything set up in Excel. As soon as Raltus offers a sheet, I can put it up for review.

Here it is

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

I will fill it. But it may take some time. The OS partition of my computer crashed and took the file with it.

No worries, the problem with the stuff you find is you basically have to use it till the end of the book when you can cash it in and buy as you wish.

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

Sheet filled.

There are some calculations behind. You only have to fill the amount of items you take in your character's column. If you want to take something out of the list, please increase the amount in the USED column. In case you want to star a list of your own on another tab or elsewhere.

The used column is also for consumed stuff.

Hex every orc in sight for me.

Orc Gear:

Leather armor x 4
Great axe x 2
Falchion x 2
Javelin x 6
Cure Light wounds Potions x 4

10 gp total

Feed Balder some potions and take the woman with us. The husband will probably be dead if we stop to take the wife back.

Please level up to 3rd, you don't get your HP but you get the Threshold, you also get any spells you would get this level.

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

Not sure I understand you right. You mean we go from 1/18HP to 1/23HP for example?

Yea, your Max HP will go up but you won't gain those extra till you sleep.

This is a bit of a slog, I am cutting a few fights since I don't want this to be 3 months of fighting.

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

That is much appreciated. I'd like to get back to some role playing that doesn't involve hack and slash ;)

OK we have 8 Cure Light Potions.... Plus what we find on the Orcs here. I think we can get everyone back up.

So as soon as we get loot. I'll start feeding people potions and hopefully we can move on to the 3rd section for clearing things up.

This reminds me a lot of the first night in Hoard of the Dragon Queen. That worked OK at the table, but even there the number of encounters got LONG for the players....

After this night is over, I'd be interested in hearing what encounters we skipped.

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

Yorikata got finesse training with daggers, vastly impriving her damage and sneak attack 2d6. With TWF she is now really dangerous.

Plus you have a magical weapon already.

At the end of this area I will tell you what you have missed, basically it is just a super long night, you are supposed to level up in 1 more encounter but I am removing it

M Dwarf Inquisitor(Living Grimoire) 32/37,Init5,F7R2W6,AC18T13FF16

Perhaps Dain can have one potion?

(Unchained Rogue - Sylvan Trickster 5) Init +4, Perc +9, AC 18/14/14 (+2vs Giants), F+3/R+8/W+2(+2 vs. Charm) HP44 DD+14

Let lanneth identify the wand. Then all can be hit.

Lanneth can take 10 and get 12 even if she rolls 1 she really gets it no matter what so you know.

Done... Now I have to level up tonight....

But I know what I'm doing.... Feat will be extra Hex: Cackle. Clearly all this fighting has snapped something in the elf's head.

Mechanically Misfortune becomes much stronger because I can keep it up.

Oh and Yorikata how do you feel about eating a scroll of summon swarm? Yum, Yum!!!!
Unless for flavor we want to change how I add scrolls to my familiar.
