Nevryn's spear strikes the true dwarf, but doesn't get past his armor.

Ranor pursues with his whirling flail, opening himself to attack again. He dodges the swordsman's jab, but his flail is evaded as well.

Taerel slashes as well, but the man cleanly ducks the attack.

On the stairs the half-elf unleashes another force missle into Nevryn.

Dunkel continues his advance and his self-directed evaluation of his deity's influence on his waraxe.

"Ahl'right Torag. If ye really must curse meh today, then perhaps ol' Dunkel needs to start prayin' t' Angradd. Is that what ye want??"

Stepping up, Dunkel swings his axe at his kin yet again.

Desperately, Nevryn digs deep for faith and praise. He sings the last of his song and tries again to take a stab at the dwarf.

Free action: use last round of Inspire Courage | Swift action: activate Arcane Strike | Standard action: Stab, stab again

Longspear (+Inspire Courage): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 1 = 14

Nevryn successfully stabs the dwarf! Then realizes he aimed at the illusion.

Ranor continues playing nice, offering the enemy chances to stab him while he sweeps at their legs. Though he calls upon the gods to smite the swordsman, he doesn't feel the righteous surge guiding his arm (he's not evil). Still, his flail rips the man's feet out from under him and sends him back to the ground where Taerel slashes him in the head hard enough to take him from the fight.

Dwarf AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Dunkel pauses for a moment to utter a prayer to Angradd.

"Ahl'right Angradd, blessed be ye, th' master of axes, guide me axe true at last..."

Once again, he attempts to bury his waraxe in his evil kin that is attempting to murder him and his fellow Pathfinders and take their findings.

"HA! Tha's it! Angradd, it is!"

Dunkel sizes up the battlefield, for the first time seeing beyond the dwarf he was engaged with.

"Is tha' ye next, half-elf? Ye wish to meet Angradd's Axe?"

Dunkel takes a step forward (5ft onto the presumably fallen dwarf).

With an illusion to distract him Dunkel buries his axe in the other dwarf's chest. With a groan, the dwarf falls over backwards onto the stairs.

Inspired song drained from the young half-elf, Nevryn continues the fight, fueled by desperation. With a heavy breath, he climbs the stairs to gain a fighting position against the bothersome wizard.

"Worry about me, wizard!" He tries to drive the idea directly into the evoker.

Non action: run out of Inspire Courage, losing the benefit | Move action: move forward 25' (less if the stairs are difficult terrain) | Swift action: activate Arcane Strike | Standard action: Strike!

Nevryn knows that he should probably try to smack the caster with the flat of his spear, but gets caught up in the moment.

The woman gasps as Nevryn's spear sinks deeply into her leg. Clutching the wound, she admits defeat and surrenders.

Securing the other two unconscious members of her group, you find among their possessions a bronze badge that indicates these are agents of the Aspis Consortium. The half-elf tells reveals that their small group was directed to the shrine by a divination made by one of their superiors. They know nothing about your purpose here, but planned on taking whatever valuable artifacts or knowledge you were after.

Since your own investigation is not quite sanctioned within the Shrine, you realize turning in the agents would likely lead to questions better left unasked. Leaving the Shrine of the Failed you discover the crowd gathered around the Starstone Cathedral has disbanded, and many of the locals are still horrified following Sir Reinhart’s attempt to vault the chasm on horseback, which ended with a fall into oblivion.

Back at the Grand Lodge, Drandle Dreng personally thanks you for your successful investigation, indicating his interest in your future careers as Pathfinders. If you have yet to complete your Confirmation, the venture-captain promises to speak with Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine to have the process expedited. Dreng assures those of you who have already completed your Confirmation that you will receive further assignments soon.

Several days later, each of you receives a missive summarizing some of the Society’s initial findings.
