Cats doesn't have a good solution to the sad, crying darkness.

"Hey! I think can cat around this way," Cats mentions helpfully. "You cat need to climb over this."

Cats is about to climb over when he thinks of something.

"Is the crying male? Ask if it's Debis?"

Fearless watches as the light is quickly consumed. Fearless shrugs and takes the time to look for an ally in the situation. He looks over at the Mariner.

"You like fish huh?" He smiles up at the large man.

Mariner wrote:
"Looks like Desna doesn't want to go in there either."

Fearless throws his hands up in the air. "That is what I have been saying! Desna herself doesn't quite trust in the Shapeshifter."

Cats wrote:
"Is the crying male? Ask if it's Debis?"

You want to as if the darkness is male?" Adalgrim rolls his eyes at the mere thought. "Okay.... Darkness are you a male known as Debis?"

If nothing else happens but sobbing, Cats is content to skirt the issue and go around.

"Debis? Is that you? Come out here right meow!" Cats orders, trying to avoid going into the darkness.

Fearless rushes back as cats continues on. "You want that darkness to come out here!?"

Fearless' natural curiosity takes root as he silently awaits a response as well, though he will not admit it to the others..


The sobbing continues as the voice calls out. "Who.. who's there? Where's Brenton? Brenton!? Where are you, the lamp went out and it's so dark!"

Cats begins to lose his patience.

"Well, then, get the cat out here and we'll take you to him, for cat's sake. Come out right meow," Cats grouses. "Just follow the sounds of our voices, if you're lost or blind or whatever. Sheesh."


"No... no! You are evil! I won't go with you!"

"The darkness knows the truth...." Fearless mumbles quietly to himself as he looks to Brother Butterfly.

Fearless' voice quavers slightly as he slowly approaches the doorjam. "Look Darkness. We have fought through at least a dozen nightmares just to get to you. Come out and we will take you to Brenton." Fearless describes the boy as best as possible. "If we was evil would we know what he looked like? This is your last chance. Get out here now or we are shutting the door and you can stay in there with the Gods know what." Adalgrim makes a point to make the door creak as if being shut slowly.

Cats nods agreement with Fearless, happy to move on from this weird situation.

"Maybe Brenton will come over and get him or something. We can't talks sense into him."

Brother Butterfly, not noticing Fearless's disparaging remark, contemplates the situation.

There's a hint in his words. I just don't know what it is.
Debis is in there, but maybe he can't come out because of the darkness.

Bringing Brenton here does sound like a good idea, but if push comes to shove, are we really going to let the boy walk into the darkness? Unchaparoned?

taking a pause
Unless there's other ideas, I suggest we do the following - in this order. Close the door and explore the area around the nurses station that Cat's found. We should later go back to the file room and see if - in that disaster area -we can find the patient file on Brenton and Debis. The more information, the better we can help solve the hint or riddle of what Brenton just said.

Not exactly taking his own advise, BB does one more desperate action.
In Desna's name - She commands for the Darkness to end!

Cast light again into the room.


The voice becomes hysterical, refusing to believe any words you offer or demand.

Once again, Desna's light fails to dispel the darkness.

Cats shrugs and is ready to move on as he's not willing to go into the dark...and especially not deal with another crazy yahoo who refuses logic. He has enough of them already.

Moved Cats on map, if people are moving on with Fearless' closed door.


The Mariner gives everyone a nod of agreement - If the boy won't come to the light, he's probably a ghoul. "We'll come back for ya laddy. Just sit tight, we're gonna go find :: mumble mumble::."

Shoulders slumping as Brother Butterfly knows that there's something Supernatural happening here. Something that is affecting a young life that should have more living to do.
But, progress needs to be made and the answers may be ahead of them. He joins Cats and Mariner shimmying through the nurses window and onto the desk - which groans with the full breadth of his weight upon it.

Making a silly excuse,
the earthquakes must be affecting the structures.

Fearless gladly closes the door and shrugs his shoulders. He calmly follows Cats to the nurses station, not giving the talking darkness a second thought as he had seen weirder things in this asylum.

Reaching the nurses station he begins to mindlessly sift through the papers.

Pinkie takes up the rear reluctantly leaving the closed door speaking softly, maybe to his companions or to some unseen entity.

"Even if he is a monster he should be put out of his misery besides we will probably have to deal with him sooner or later"


Leaving the dark room be for the moment, the Watchmen head to the window leading to the nurse station and begin crawling through. Though they were hoping to find less madness within, they are soon disappointed.

Just after Cats and The Mariner crawl through a pair of yellow-robed apostles in orpiment leap out from hiding spots. Screaming like the maniacs they are, they attack with improvised clubs. Behind one, kneeling on a couch in an office and shaking, is a woman with wide eyes.

since BB is slow (minus 4 to dex) he intends to cast cause fear to anyone visible. If they apostles retreat before my spell, BB casts luck on Mariner or Pinkie if I can't reach Mariner. He then moves so he doesn't block window.

Pinkie lets instinct take over and tries to dive through the window and tumbles up next to Cats sword out.

Brother Butterfly's words fall on deaf ears. Springing into action quickly, Pinkie dives through the open window and rolls to his feet, ready to fight.

Pinkie suffers a few cracked ribs from a desperate looking man with white powder caking his lips. From the other side a blonde man screams like a berserker and breaks The Mariner's nose.

"Take that you shapechanging bastard!!" He yells upon seeing blood. "Zandalus sees you!"
The girl on the couch whimpers "Zandalus! Zandalus! Zandalus!" Over and over.

Pinkie tries to feint an attack with his dagger before taking a swing with his shortsword

@Pinkie: in order to feint with your first attack you need a special feat called Two-Weapon Feint.

Two-Weapon Feint (Combat):

You use one weapon to distract your enemy while slipping another past his defenses.

Prerequisites: Dex 15, Int 13, Combat Expertise , Two-Weapon Fighting .
Benefit: While using Two-Weapon Fighting to make melee attacks, you can forgo your first primary-hand melee attack to make a Bluff check to feint an opponent.

"-huH?" ::BLAM!!:: the Mariner's eyes roll back in his skull for a moment. Blood pours out like Brother's water spell. Shocked for a moment, the Mariner spits of a piece of tooth, "What the HELL?! I'm one of you idiots!"

The Mariner strikes back with a his seige weapon.

Pinkie takes a couple jabs at one of the apostles, but the frightened man jumps back out of reach. The Mariner swings his weapon, but blood in his eyes causes him to misjudge the space and his weapon catches clangs off the doorframe.

@Mariner: Technically the polearm is no good at close range (reach weapon), but your roll was bad anyway. You should switch weapons.

The Mariner ducks a blow from the Apostle he faces. The second man backs away from Pinkie, pointing in horror past him at Brother Butterfly. "Sh!t, Vern! Look at that bald one.. he's.. gods, do you see his face!! The doppelgängers aren't even trying to hide anymore!! Group therapy is over man! The cookies are all gone and the orderlies are giving body cavity searches and we're next! Oh, man we're doomed, Vren! Doomed!"

Brother Butterfly reaches through the nurses window and touches The Mariner's shoulder. With almost the tone of how clan cheer girls sound when rooting on a Caber Tossing contestant.

Casts luck on The Mariner

He then shimmies his large body through the window trying to get to the other side. His movement is stunted as everytime he puts his foot on the window sill, it slips off. Finally, he just does an elephant Seal type move lifting his girth and slamming down on the tabletop.

to help the GM finalize the round, I hope it's okay for me to make the reroll of the bull rush attack. luck reroll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Fearless stares at a stone and questions reality. Suddenly the stone jumps off the ground and flies right over his head!

Brother Butterfly squeezes through the window, giving luck to the Mariner. The old man rushes the apostle in the doorway, trying to push him back. He misses, but something about a bald doppelganger crawling through the window behind him causes the man to step back anyway, but not before taking advantage of the opening given him to crack a few ribs.

Cats and Pinkie pursue the cowering apostle in the store room, but he ducks and dodges, throwing furniture and racks in the way of attacks.

The apostle facing the Mariner brings his club down on his head, making his knees wobble!

Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The woman suddenly produces a kitchen knife and plunges it into the Mariner's side. His armor just barely prevents the blade from drawing blood.

Seeing The Mariner spill a bunch of blood onto the floor, Brother Butterfly tries his best to help and heal some of the damage.

Maybe calling on a bluff to keep these freaks from coordinating their attacks, BB says something to try and catch them off guard.
All the while looking to cure his friend.

First, he winks at Fearless to let him in on his ploy.

Fearless, use your mind powers to open the door of darkness and the Mariner can throw Vren to his doom! Whoa, look, it's opening on it's own! Blessed be to Desna for coming to our aid!

BB then moves 5 feet forward and touches Mariner.

I already took my action, so this is not a Bluff roll, but I wanted to see how well BB delivered the lie. It might affect my action for next round.
