Reposting the overseer announcement here since it goes right from the copy there into roleplay here.
A booming voice rings through the Irorium - "Welcome to Absalom! On this glorious eve we gather again in celebration of our wonderful city and its freedom from tyranny. We present to you all — the Passion of the First Siege of Absalom! A performance great and terrible, reenacting Absalom’s victorious slaughter of Warlord Voradni Voon’s troops upon the city’s rocky shores. As the highlight of this years performance, directly following the Passion, the Pathfinder Society has generously agreed to a public unveiling of its latest acquisition, a terrifying device dredged from ancient ruins in the Mwangi Expanse. And now, ladies and gentlemen, please take your seats. The performance is about to begin!"
The Passion is long, tediously so, though the rowdy crowds more than entertain themselves, booing and cheering th performers and throwing rotten cabbages. In all, it turns out to be a fine afternoon of celebration.
Following the performance, a large stage is wheeled in to the west side of the Irorium. The stage is covered with a large curtain. Beneath is a scaled set of a ruin and in the center stands a bizarre, cage-like structure of weathered metal covered with strange runes and other ornate etchings. A man who fits the description of the Pathfinder known as Charvion Eater-of- Bones stands next to the cage.
“Good evening, friends! On this auspicious night I present to you an incredible spectacle, the type of which you have never seen before. From the darkest jungles of Mwangi, I have procured an ancient device, an artifact capable of ripping through the very cloth of our reality!”
Charvion touches something on the cage, and it falls open, slowly unfolding like a blossoming flower. He steps inside, and the cage begins to close around him, crackling with swirling tendrils of mystic, silvery ether.
In an ominous and unearthly voice he bellows, “I am now fused to the ethereal plane—the realm of ghosts! Ask me what you will, and the dead shall answer through me! But be wary of what you seek, for you may not like the answers.”

DM Panic |

Members of the crowd begin to stand up and shout towards Charvion, each posing their own questions.
"My aunt Tilly! She died but she didn't tell me where her fortune was buried!"
Then another.
"My wife Lucille... I've remarried since she passed. How does she find my new family? Is she angry?"
Feel free to shout your own questions to Charvion.

![]() |

"Seductive. But I will not participate in this. All the correct answers that I need gives me my faith. Infinitely good Empyreal Lords will disclose me know everything I need to know."
Kaleb rises from his seat, looking intently at the odd show and preparing for the worst.

Jeaas speaks quietly so that only the nearest members of the group can hear.
"Well it would be rude to not join in with his performance."
She then raises her voice over the din of the crowd.
"What does my father think of me joining the Pathfinders?"
Jessa smiles to herself.
"If this is a trick, as many shows like this are, then the answer will be predictably positive. Of course he's alive and well back in Varisia, so any answer will be false."

![]() |

Taika shouts nothing, but keeps her hands folded in her lap. She doesn't understand how the man can possibly field all the shouting coming from the crowd. Nor would she contribute to the questions even if she did think he could hear.
She ensures her mage armor is still active, and looks at the cage-like machine with interest, what little details she can see from this far away.
Not sure how long the Passion lasted but if it's more than an hour, Taika will use another mage armor wand charge when Charvion takes the stage.
Kn arcana for anything she knows about the device?: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

Similar question but for Taika's Message spell. It still running?
Jal had spent the reenactment lounging in his hiding spot, whispering snarky comments into his teammates' ears. Rogar is saved from the experience.
When Charvion's set-piece is set up, Jal goes on point, maintaining his hidden position.
"Here we go," he whispers through the spell as he begins scanning for anything out of place, "You guys still hear me? Why don't we ask his ghosts if they're as uninterested in these shenanigans as we are?"
If possible, Jal would have immediately made Charvion his Studied Target.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18; +2 vs Charvion

DM Panic |

Message would fall off after 50 mins, and the Passion was lengthy, almost 2 hours. Although I'm fine imagining she renewed it at some intermission point. It would be harder for Jal to extract himself, but even with a failed Stealth check, he could likely bolt away since he did nothing malicious except "get a closer view".
Charvion eventually makes his way to Jessa's question. His eyes flutter momentarily as he maintains contact with the artifact. Thus far, all member of the crowd have been impressed and astounded by his replies.
"Your father... the spirits beyond cannot ascertain the thoughts of the living, yet I see some of those connected to your past reaching..."
"There is a sense from them of disappointment of you choosing the path of a Pathfinder... concern that you will fall victim to the same temptations as your peers, heeding not a straight and moral path...."
Before he can continue, he turns his attention to another member of the crowd shouting a question.
Nobody else spies anything suspicious. Kaleb potentially catches a man selling a cooked rabbit-on-a-stick shorting a woman of her proper change at one point. :)

![]() |

Jessa is surprised that her trick didn't work, though she doesn't seem to be phased by the other comments.
"Moral path indeed!"
"Well it seems there is more truth to this than a mere parlor trick then... she says quietly.

![]() |

I'll keep Message refreshed on those of us seated together, then.
Taika listens to the litany of shouted questions and nods slightly at Jessa's words.
"Strange really. My understanding of the theology is that souls go on to their final rest. I wonder if this artifact keeps them from reaching their destination planes to stay and answer questions instead, or whether the artifact finds the required souls in the various celestial planes."

DM Panic |

A low, droning horn suddenly rises over the cacophonous throng. Soon after, it is joined by a second horn, then a third, then dozens.
Under thirty seconds later...
A massive black dragon dives through the center of the Irorium, spewing gouts of acid onto the arena floor. She heads straight for the small stage where Charvion stands within the cage. Striking with both claws, she plucks the artifact free from the base, shattering the stage and sending remnants of the mock ruins everywhere. The creature lifts into the air, with Charvion clinging to the bars and screaming in terror. The great beast continues her flight, winging off toward the Grand Lodge. A few short moments later, rattling explosions shake the city and a shimmering column of pale, silvery light shoots up out of the grounds of the Grand Lodge and into the night sky.
More coming next post.

Make a Knowledge (history) check and pop any spoilers you beat the DC for.
Barely fifteen seconds after the horns sound, everyone (except Jessa) notice dark spots far off on the northern horizon, seeming to grow larger with each passing moment.
Nobles and commoners alike in attendance immediately begin pushing through one another to flee the Irorium while Pathfinders leap up, drawing blades, wielding magic and standing ready for what appears to be bearing down to their location.
Please imagine this scene unfolding in an auditorium with lots of other Pathfinder players, with each table shouting above the noise at one another as you hear various PCs yelling out: "Mage Armor!", "Stoneskin!", "Drink my potion of fly!", etc. *Something* is coming, and it's scary.
@Everyone: Give me a few rounds of actions as the dark spots close in on you all.

Round 2: Store wand, move down to the field

Jal gapes as the huge dragon wings directly over him, carrying the stage off. Suddenly being on the arena's floor doesn't seem so smart, but luck holds, and the Jal isn't worth its notice.
When pandemonium erupts, and the dots begin to appear on the horizon, Jal's thoughts go immediately to his team. He's never lost a teammate, and he doesn't intend to start today.
He bursts from his hiding spot, rushing across the Irorium and vaulting up into and through the field seats on the way to meet them.
I have no preparations to make, being a non-caster.
So rounds 2, 3, 4, and 5 will be spent taking up a position between the incoming flying things and his teammates as he draws his bow. Then—as they close—he'll make the nearest two his Studied Targets.
As the Varisian waits and watches, his gray eyes focusing intensely on the growing dark dots, he checks with his teammates. "Anyone know what's going on here? Or have any big ideas?"
Then he adds a belated. "Osprey."

"In the name of She on Ebon Wings!" - with horror and awe Kaleb looks at the dragon. The very first time he sees such a creature alive.
Noticing a dark spots in the distance, he nods to himself, as if it's what he is waiting for - "Like I said, gonna be a long night".
He puts his hand in the bag and begins to pull out a long wooden shaft. It seems such a long object could not fit in a so small backpack... But in the end, in his hands appears a terrible scythe, decorated with bones and causing a shudder when you look at it.
He wryly smiles: "Time to gather the harvest. In the name of my patrons, in the name of She on Ebon Wings, in the name of all the Armies of Heaven... you should not come here and spoil people this holiday. Payback will be severe."
Then he mumbles a few short prayers, and seem to disappear into the shadows.

Once her wand is safely secured away she draws her heirloom Harrow deck and prepares to use her fate altering powers when they're needed. Round 2
If an enemy approaches she'll use Evil Eye on them to reduce their attack rolls bye 2 (DC17, 8 rounds on fail, 1 round on pass). Her main concern right now would be protecting her allies, which would give her a much better chance of surviving.

YBD Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Kel can retcon his preparation actions if he wishes, but as a swashbuckler I'm not expecting a ton of actions that would affect others.
You all witness as dozens of dragons black as night glide into the arena, each mythic creature carrying dozens of goblins astride its back. As they finally touch down, the goblins leap off cheering and charging at their nearest foes. Some goblins dismount less gracefully than others, instead finding themselves squashed under the heavy foot of the larger dragons.
You observe as some of the newer recruits into the Society cheer and meet the goblin warriors head on. You also watch as Pathfinders you know who have served many more seasons than you employ their own magic and glide airborne to meet with some of the larger dragons (the other subtiers around you engaging in their own battles). In some cases, the goblin warriors meeting the most seasoned Pathfinders appear to glide through the very shadows themselves, disappearing in one part of the Irorium and then appearing at just the right spot to plunge a shortsword into one of the Society's magi or priests.
Suddenly it becomes clear the role your group will play in the assault on the Irorium. A black dragon the size of a grown man glides in, clearly intent at engaging the six of you. As it lands on the seating adjacent to Rogar, its mouth opens wide and a stream of greenish acid hurtles forth at Rogar, Jessa and Taika in turn.
The dragon has landed. Breath weapon at Rogar, Jessa and Taika. DC 17 Reflex or take 6d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 4, 3, 3) = 28 acid damage. Take half on a made save.
You ended up with 3 rounds to prepare. Then actual initiative begins as the black dragon engages you.
Round 1
23 Black Dragon : Lands, breaths on Rogar, Jessa and Taika for 28 damage (or 14)
22 Jessa :

9 Kaleb :
DC17 Knowledge Arcana to ID your foe as a young black dragon - you can know one useful bit for DC17, and an extra useful bit for each 5 you beat the DC by.
I don't want to complicate movement too much, so imagine you can move as normal down to a lower tier, and it's difficult terrain (aka 2x move cost) to move up a tier unless you are using the main walkways.
GM Note: I haven't included icons for all the other battles going on. You could clearly have fired off spells against the combats the other subtiers are participating in, but for now you can focus on your own dragon in your part of the Irorium.
Now Up: Everyone!

Taika takes a few steps forward, gesturing and chanting. Her lips begin to rime with frost, and then she opens her mouth and what looks like sticky snow, if such a thing is possible, flurries out towards the dragon.

Kaleb does exactly what nobody will expect. He doesn't attack the dragon, shoots him or uses the spell. Instead, he is staring at the dragon a menacing look and... begins to read a sermon. Yes, to the dragon.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33 (Demoralize; I think he has no resistance to mind effects?)
His voice sounds incredibly horribly and powerful. The horrors that will fall upon the whole race of dragons for such an offense as an attack on innocent people today, sound very plausible and awful. But the most amazing is that the shadow behind Kaleb suddenly takes the form of a giant angel's wings, black as the darkness of dark tapestry itself...
Ending his impassioned speech, he walks up one flight of stairs and rushes to the dragon... And then he disappears, as if those dark wings engulfed him and he vanished into the darkness...
Stealth: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (17) + 17 = 34
Explanation - while I have THIS blessing, I always have a concealment. According to the PF rules, I can go in stealth as part of move action, and I don't need to create a diversion to get to the concealment since I was already in the concealment.
UPD! Yes, it's not going to work this time because the dragon has blindsense. I will not change the action, it's my mistake. But, on other hand, I also described to you something on what I primarily rely in most fight scenes. Now you know ))

@Jal:I was torn on the 3 rds of prep actually affecting any enemy targets since there were hundreds of targets to choose from and it could be unclear which your group as actually engaging vs simply spells that augmented your PCs. I know at in-person events sometimes GMs would allow players to fire a spell at a nearby table. Because you could study a target out of combat and Jal is extremely Perceptive, let's say he managed to study this particular dragon before it engaged.
@Kaleb: I actually have a Darkness blessing Warpriest/Ninja, so I gotcha on the crunch. :)
@Rogar: I'm fine if you have Inspire already up pre-combat as part of the prepare rounds and wished to fire an arrow this round.
Will put Kel into TBD/Delay since it's been a while since he's checked in.
Despite Taika's strange goo, the dragon scrambles ahead, its massive claws raking across the Irorium's seating as it grins with an evil malice.
"FOOLS! HOW DARE YOU TRY TO STOP ME?"
Scrambling up faster than should be possible (just flavor text, imagine a dragon scrambling up at you, not suggesting it isn't afflicted by the entangled condition), it snaps at Jessa for daring to glare at it, planning to next snack on the archer who dared fire upon it once the witch is torn asunder.

She sighs with relief as the pain from the acid fades. "Were there others of us hurt? Do any of you know what is going on, beyond an apparent large-scale attack of... dragons? And goblins," she added, surveying the battlefield.
"But as Master Kel says, I believe more are incoming. Defensive positions."

Jal takes a moment to jam his blade down into the dragon's brain, making sure it won't recover to try to kill anymore Pathfinders.
"Nice," he says with a smirk that includes the whole team. "Always good to work with talented folks."
He stoops to reclaim his bow, but takes the moment to also finger Taika's indention in the floor. "You think they'll appreciate the new contours in their floor?"
No preparations to take. Would a Perception help us get a heads up on whatever inevitably comes after us next? :D

The stoic dwarf produces his wand and quickly taps himself twice.

Rogar stows his wand, grips his bow and closes his eyes for a few moments peace.

"Now that's a damn shame, bean'oighear," he mutters, standing back up and watching the continuing pandemonium around them. "I was looking forward to bringing ladies in here. 'And that right there is where I killed a dragon.' They'd have been so impressed."

Yes, your subtier gives you back-to-back dragons. :)
Not even half a minute passes to give you all a breather as another roar snaps your attention skyward once again. It seems another black dragon has caught sight of her fallen mate as she screams downward at you all with unbelievable speed.
"ANYRTHURYX! NOOOO! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"
With a heavy thud, the seats you stand upon shudder as she lands over the nearby entrance - the clearly rage evident on her face as she lifts her head, apparently ready to breath acid all over you once again. Yet this time, a few of you are prepared (that is, Taika, Kaleb and Rogar are).

"Prostrate before the forces of good or die, wyrm!" - Kaleb says, pointing the finger on the dragon and then goes forward, intending to hack this creature. "In the name of Heavens" - he whispers on the move. He goes not too fast, expressively holding the scythe in one hand and putting it to the side. His whole appearance expresses the upcoming quick payback for the monster.

Taika spins, her eyes burning blue white. "We did to him what we shall do to you," she promises. She takes some steps away, and then her hands sketch a shape and a chunk of glittering ice appears, smashing towards the dragon in mid-air.

@Taika: Will fix the HP next update!
Rogar and Taika both prove themselves more than capable ranged warriors as the dragon suffers a substantial head wound from Rogar's arrow and Taika's ice-ball. Kaleb punctuates the attacks and makes the draconic female reconsider her revenge plans, although only temporarily once she remembers she can still breath horrible scalding acid on her enemies.

"You will not," Taika intoned. "You will freeze. You will shatter. Winter will claim you. Your bones will be lost beneath the snow. You will be forgotten."
Her voice seemed to deepen as she spoke. Taika's head snapped back even as she took a step nearer, and her eyes rolled back in her head leaving pits of darkness in their wake. Little white flakes of frost drifted forth from the tiny voids.... and spiraled across the distance between them to settle over the dragon.
