Woot! Checking in.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 16

Yo yo, ma homies. I'm still dithering over who to bring-- some of the characters I had eligible when I signed up have actually aged out of tier already, oops, or are otherwise locked up in scenarios, so I'm down to a Level 6 Barbarian and a Level 5 Wizard. Judging by who else is here, I'm leaning towards the wizard, as it sounds like everyone else checked in is a primarily melee combatant?

Kel is a swashbuckler/ninja build who has proven to be quite effective in both melee and the skill monkey/party face roles, if that helps you any Dien.

Taika definitely fills a party role gap better, given what we've seen so far. I don't remember what the other players are bringing.

Jal is a pretty straight scout/martial combatant.

Hi everyone!

I need to get Jessa updated on Hero Lab then she'll be ready to go.

She's a level 5 Cartomancer Witch (she has a Harrow Deck to store her spells and can deliver touch spells at range). She leans heavily towards support and healing, but can throw magically charged Harrow cards at enemies when needed.

Fyi - my last table with Rogar fell through so i am 4.2 still. But then again... Bard.

This is my highest level character. So given that I don't know how dangerous scenarios can be at this level, I don't know if that's a big deal or not.

OK, that's everyone checked in, which is great news.

As a GM, I don't have any issue with a 4th level PC playing up given your circumstances.

I know lots of folks who have played up at specials without issue, and I'm not usually a "killer GM" with any deaths at my tables usually coming from X3 crits to folks who want to be in melee taking said swings. :)

slow day on the boards. :(

Indeed. We'll need to pick up our pace on posts - some tables are already on round 8 of their combats and we're on round 2!

Since Kel hasn't posted in 5 days (since last Wednesday), I won't hold up any more combat posting on his account - you can assume he's helping another nearby group with his actions.

I'm not concerned about a ramp in difficulty, as the first special it's actually fairly easy (this I say when you're squaring off with a dragon)... but it is fully runnable at this difficulty with just a table of four players.

Remember when I was worried we were only in round 2? Well, welcome to round 7, with a dragon defeated!

FYI, I rolled a new initiative since as far as I read it, you were no longer in combat, and I wasn't happy adding the latest dragon in at initiative 23 ahead of everyone for a free acid breath.

Yeah, any buffs that were 5-6 minutes long since the dragon fight would've fallen off as you crossed Absalom.

Boons for Jal and Kel! (they are available on rolls of 1 or 20)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Jal and Kel:

Pick one of the following boons and let me know which you choose.

CHOICE # 1

Psychic Awakening:

You can infuse one of your items with psychic energy, granting it more power and significance over time. Choose one weapon or armor of at least masterwork quality, one wand, or one wondrous item that can be upgraded, such as a cloak of resistance +1.

To infuse the item with psychic energy, perform one of the following tasks, as appropriate for the item type. Once per adventure after performing this task, you may check off one of the 10 boxes on this Chronicle sheet.

Armor: Wear the armor during at least one combat encounter.

Wand: Activate the wand, using at least one charge.

Weapon: Make at least one successful attack roll against an opponent during an encounter.

Other Item: Proclaim the item’s greatness or significance before attempting a skill check or attack roll. Alternatively, use the item as an additional focus when casting a spell. You must be wearing the item prominently or holding it in your hand in order to infuse it with psychic energy.

Once you check off the 10th box on this Chronicle sheet, you have fully infused your item with psychic energy. If the item is not a wand, you may expend this psychic energy to reduce the cost of one future upgrade to the item by 20%. This discount does not stack with other discounts, and it can provide a maximum price reduction of 200 gp per character level. The discount reduces the price you pay for the item, but it does not reduce the market price of the item for the purpose of having enough Fame to qualify for the purchase.

If the psychically infused item is a wand, you may expend the psychic energy between scenarios to recharge the wand. You may restore up 5 charges of to a wand of a 4th-level spell, up to 10 charges to a wand of a 3rd-level spell, up to 25 charges to wand of a 2nd-level spell, and up to 50 charges to a wand of a 1st-level spell. A wand cannot hold more than 50 charges, and the number of charges you restore to the wand cannot increase its effective market price by more that 200 gp per character level. Once you recharge the wand once, the remaining psychic energy dissipates.

-----------------------------------------------

CHOICE # 2

Elemental Blast:

You may harness the energy of an element to attack a target within 30 feet with a kinetic blast, using your character level as your effective kineticist level. You may perform one of the blasts detailed below. Once you use this boon, cross it off your Chronicle sheet.

Air, Earth, or Water: You may call forth a blast of air, earth, or water as a standard action. This blast is a ranged touch attack that deals an amount of damage equal to 1d6+1 + your Constitution modifier, plus an additional 1d6+1 points of damage for every 2 levels you possess beyond 1st. Its damage type is bludgeoning, unless you select earth, in which case its damage type is bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing.

Cold, Electricity, or Fire: You may call forth a blast of cold, electricity, or fire. This blast is a ranged touch attack that deals an amount of damage equal to 1d6 + 1/2 your Constitution modifier, plus an additional 1d6 points of damage for every 2 levels you possess beyond 1st. The cold blast deals cold damage, the electricity blast deals electricity damage, and the fire blast deals fire damage. This blast is subject to spell resistance.

If you are a kineticist, you can apply metakinesis and infusions to this blast. If you are a kineticist of at least 7th level, you may use this boon to unleash a composite blast with this blast’s element as one of its components.

-----------------------------------------------

CHOICE # 3

Emotional Aura:

You may channel an aura from the emotional spectrum into your body as a standard action, infusing yourself with its effects. If you do so, your body takes on a subtle color of the aura you channel until the effects end. These auras all count as spell-like abilities with a caster level equal to your character level. Once you use this boon, cross it off your Chronicle sheet.

Anger (Bright Red): You are overcome with anger. You gain the effects of a rage spell for a number of rounds equal to your character level.

Faith (Blue): Your faith envelops you and strengthens your resolve. For one minute, you gain a +1 sacred or profane bonus to AC and on all saving throws. If you have the ability to cast divine spells, you may end the aura’s effects as a free action to increase the saving throw DC to resist one of your divine spells by 2.

Flexibility (Emerald Green): You have the skills to handle any situation. For one minute, you can use all skills as if you were trained in them. For the duration of this effect, you can roll checks as if you possessed a number of ranks in the skill equal to 1/2 your character level (minimum 1).

Hatred (Black): You can channel your hatred into one of your foes. For one minute, you gain a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against the target creature. You may end the aura’s effects to sicken the target for one minute after you hit it with an attack roll or affect it with a non-harmless spell (Fortitude save DC 12+1/2 your character level negates).

Love (Scarlet): Your aura of love makes others hesitate before attacking you. You gain the benefits of a sanctuary spell for a number of rounds equal to your character level (Will save DC 12 + 1/2 your character level negates)

Pride (Orange): Your pride augments your persuasive power and defends you against effects that would harm your ego. You gain a +2 bonus on all Charisma checks and Charisma-based skill checks for 1 minute. Additionally, you gain a +2 bonus on saving throw against charms, compulsions, and fear effects for 1 minute.

Just need Jessa and Kel's IDs and Day Jobs to fire this off and report it!

Folks may alternatively submit their own info here. :)

For those of you in tier, you can grab your chronicles here and I'll trust you all to fill in your Day Job results in the "Items Sold" section.

For Rogar, who is out of tier, you can grab your chronicle here and the same regarding your Day Job applies.

Ah, are you sure? I averaged the two tiers as I thought that was how it was handled. If that's not the case, you could grab the full 5-6 subtier chronicle. I'll search around for confirmation.
