August continues to punch and elbow the gnoll, hoping that this fight will end quickly.

Sailor #2 vs Evarice: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 for 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
August's elbow thuds into the gnoll, who staggers backward and looks upon Evarice with pure enmity.
"EH EH EH! Kill the girrrrrrl, she's knitting this one!"
The sailor swallows hard, obviously fearful of the gnoll and swings his hammer at Evarice, crushing several of her ribs with a solid hit (5 damage to Evarice).

"I'll smite you down, evil one!"
Swift action to smite evil on the gnoll.
Johann's temper flares as Evarice is attacked. He again swings both his sword and shield at the gnoll hoping to silence the evil sailor.
Sword, TWF, smite: 1d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 9
Damage, smite: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9
Shield Bash, TWF, smite: 1d20 + 5 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 2 + 2 = 23
Damage, smite: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Geeez, I just can't do anything with that sword arm.
AC is 20 against the gnoll. Of course, that is assuming the gnoll is evil. If he is not evil, then subtract the various bonuses from attack and damage.

Cure Light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
This gnoll is a lawful evil slaving bastard, so smite goes up and Johann begins to glow with holy light. The Puddlejumpers, however... (the halfling gang) those guys were alright and weren't actual evil.
Yet another force missile discharges into the gnoll's chest, and as the towering dog-brute winces, Johann follows up with a strong smash to the slaver's snout (5+4 = 9 more damage, taking the gnoll to 27hp inflicted).
As the gnoll's maw hangs loose and blody, the creature spits out some loose teeth and bares its teeth at the Pathfinders.
"EH EH EH. Not just yet, PUP!"
The gnoll shifts back a few feet (5ft step), pulling out a flask (move) and downing its contents (std)
Round 4:
13 Evarice : CLW on Johann for 6hp
12 Sailor #2 (-6hp): Clocks Evarice for 5hp
11 Maranax : Force missile vs gnoll for 4hp

Sailor #2 vs Evarice: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 for 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
August lands another solid punch against the gnoll, but the towering brute defies the odds and continues to stand.
"EH EH. Finish their priest!"
The sailor swallows hard, clearly fearful of the gnoll's bad side and steps ahead towards Evarice and pummels the elf with his blunt instrument (6 damage to Evarice).
"There! I did it!"

Johann, redoubling his efforts, pursues the gnoll who seems about ready to bury his hatchet in the paladin.
With a slash and a smash, the gnoll eh-eh's no more and crumples lifelessly to the deck.
"Alright!"
The sailor holds up his hands in surrender, still smoldering from where the arcane missile hit him.
"I give!"
Out of combat if his surrender is accepted, which I'd expect is the case with a paladin among you.
You can hear the sounds of worried, anxious slaves milling about below deck.
Johann Van Hjorder
|
Johann keeps his blade out and points it at the sailor. "Be quick and true with your answers, infidel. What awaits us below deck? Help us and no more harm shall befall you. However, do NOT play us for fools."
He then sheathes his sword. "We must help those below deck, and I wouldn't be surprised if our charge is down there. But we must proceed cautiously."
Evarice Bue
|
As a side note, I just realized I should have taken an AoO with my reach weapon when the Gnoll tried to drink the potion. We'll just say she missed.
Also, she's bleeding out unconscious, so if someone could stop the bleeding that would be fabulous!
With another hammer blow, Evarice falls on the deck.
Con DC 13: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 Man, I pissed off Sheyln, huh? Don't like the hat?
She fails to stabilize.
| DM Panic |
The sailor is quick to comply.
"That... was Foreman Snarl. The cap'ns down below. Cap'n Gnarl... another of the gnolls."
As if in complete response to this, you hear a cackling hyena-like laugh from below deck followed by a loud challenge.
"THAT'S RIGHT PUPS!! YOU WANNA FREE MY SLAVES?! COME ON DOWN AND GET'EM!"
You hear screams and shouting coming from below deck.
Feel free to cross off wand charges and get folks fully healed, and I'll update to belowdeck once you let me know how you want to proceed. There are two ladders down, so you could conceivably line up two groups at the two ladders.
Johann Van Hjorder
|
Oh crud. I was hoping that was the final battle. Haha.
Johann sheathes his sword and drops down to kneel over Evarice. "I'm not so good at the healing arts, could someone help me stabilize her?"
Heal, Aid Another: 1d20 ⇒ 7
The paladin is unable to determine how to help treat the elf's injuries.
"Or, if someone has a wand of healing, I am able to use it. We mustn't let one of our own fall."
Titus Willoughby
|
"Yikes!" Titus jumps when he realizes one of their group is down.
Moving to bind her wounds he whispers to the others, so as not to draw out the gnoll yet, "Anyone have a healing potion?"
Untrained Heal check on Evarice: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Maranax
|
Maranax hastens onto the deck of the ship, pulling out a tanglefoot bag and making ready to use it.
"Alas no. Will she live?" It is the first time that any real concern or emotion has entered his voice since Maranax joined the group.
| DM Panic |
Hmm, a pary of 0pp PCs. Eek. Let me do a little retcon since we missed that AoO.
You all remember back seconds earlier as brave Evarice, before she dropped, mightly swung her glaive as the gnoll tried to drink.
Glaive AoO, Bless: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 1 = 21
And she knocked the potion in his hand onto the deck, where it continues to roll around wobble wobble wobble wobble before laying still next to the gnoll's bloodied corpse.
It is a potion of cure light wounds. It can be force fed to Evarice. Technically the gnoll drank it, but we forgot that AoO, right?
August Dupine
|
August sees the potion on the floor, and picks it up. "Maybe this will help..." he says, as he trickles it down her throat.
"Well, the element of surprise certainly seems gone, and we can't tarry lest he tortures or kills his prisoners."
Dupine looks around for any less obvious entrances, such as windows or ventilation shafts.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
If none exist, then he suggests we line up 2 at a time, and those with more agility or armor take the lead to occupy the gnoll (and whatever else may be down there) while the others can get in.
Having an Acrobatics +6, Dupine will volunteer to be one of the first if needed, trying to get down as defensively as possible.
Evarice Bue
|
...let's see if I roll a 1.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Oh Sheyln, you so craz-ay
Evarice's eyes open. "I can't see...what- oh, right." She removes the hat covering her eyes and sees the cowardly sailors and the dead gnoll. "Th-thank you all."
She raises her symbol and channels, healing everyone for 1d6 ⇒ 3 hit points.
"I can aid our wounds...I'd say about one more time today. I will need to rest and pray to Sheyln for more aid tomorrow."
Hearing the Gnoll captain's taunts, Evarice heads across the ship to grab her longbow. "While I am pretty agile, I'm not agile enough apparently. August, you and Johann should go in front. Titus should try to sneak around, maybe catch him unaware. Maranax and I can go together. Sounds like a plan?"
1 channel remains...
Johann Van Hjorder
|
Johann quietly nods, grateful that Evarice is still alive. "Yes, please allow me at the front. I won't be able to call upon Iomedae's divine power of smiting again today, but I can still hit hard with my sword and shield."
He lowers his voice, "August and I will rush through this front portal. The rest of you should try to sneak down the back way. Please, allow me to rush in first."
I've moved us on the map by the respective ladders, if that is okay.
| DM Panic |
With a nod to each other on the main deck, both Johann and Titus begin to descend the ladders to the lower deck.
Chained the length of the ship, two to a bench, are 50 filthencrusted oar slaves bleeding from lacerations and open sores and slumped in sleep or exhaustion.
The benches form a five-foot-wide aisle down the center of the galley, constricting movement in all but three areas: a 10-foot diameter around
the main mast, slightly fore of midship, and the extreme ends of the galley which hold rooms.
Standing in the middle is a massive gnoll wearing a tricorne and eyepatch. As he observes Johann descend, he lets loose a raspy cackle and cracks a whip.
"EH-EH-EH. FOOLISH PUP! I will not kill you! I will strip the flesh from your back and chain you to the oars for the next fifty years! EH-EH-EH!"
Women and children scream and do their best to huddle at the ship's sides.
On this map, imagine more slaves than I depicted. Each [s] is actually two slaves squeezing together at the sides of the ship to make way for the brawl that appears about to transpire. And yes, the gnoll appears large-sized.

Evarice decides time is of the essence and climbs quickly.
Climb, DC 5: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14 Would have been so mad if I rolled a 1
Evarice draws her glaive. She'd love to use her longbow, but there are too many innocent bystanders in the way. She'd never forgive herself for hitting someone. Well, besides the gnoll captain.

"FOOLISH PUP! I've been at sea for o'er a decade and 'ave never slipped on me de-de-de-deEEECCKKK!"
With a heavy THUD, you all witness Captain Gnarl land on his furry arse as the nearby slaves cringe in fright.
Still Up: Mr. Titus

Titus fires his crossbow, but misses badly. Tossing it aside, he carefully climbs down.

Gnarl's whip cracks at Johann's feet, but the paladin is already en route to engage the gnoll and easily steps ahead of the maneuver.

She is much, much too cautious, however.

Johann steps aside from the whip and quickly rushes down the ladder.
Climb: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7 (I'll take it!)
He then closes the distance between himself and the captain while drawing his sword.
So, I had to do a double-move. One move to move down the ladder at half speed (I'm assuming it is 10 feet) and then a move action to move adjacent to the gnoll and draw sword.
Maranax

Maranax hustled forward. "Do you know what burns well?" he asked calmly as he cast a spell from five feet away. "Grease."

I'm going to advance the round, taking the gnoll's action as I suspect August won't finish him off. This means August gets to act twice when he posts, once in Round 2 and again in Round 3.
The fires burn around the gnoll, who scowls at Maranax.
"I'll flay you wizard!"
The gnoll's threat is meek as his axe nearly hits Evarice instead of Maranax.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
