"Obviously I can't go alone, but if the others will go, so will I. I'm sure Gabe will, as he seems anxious for some action."
Gabryjel looks toward Venja for a moment, but he does not meet her gaze, seeming a bit shy from her praise.
While he has no personal interest in going out to find this woman in the wilderness, his friends wanted to go.
That was good enough for Gabryjel.
He turns to look clearly at Ionnia for a moment, hearing her request.
”It would be better to take care of this threat quickly.”
”Horses will help us move faster.”
”With horses we could be back before noon… if we left at fist light.”
”Will you lend us horse to do this?” he asks her.
After her response –
Gabryjel turns to Variel –
”Whitestorm – there may be Fey folk to the south.”
”Did you have more Cold Iron at your shop?”
He stretches his jaw, loosening the tough tissue by his throat.
”It does not matter how much…. Bring what you can.”
’On the trail I can craft arrows with Cold Iron heads.”
”That can help any who use a bow… if we hunt Fey.”
Once that matter is settled, he will look at the others clearly, though he will have trouble meeting Venja’s gaze somewhat. Then he will do what is necessary to get his business settled..
"Perhaps we should wait and leave in the morning when all will be able to see."
Gabryjel considers that suggestion.
If we're looking to scout, we should go now - but if we are sincerely looking for information and clues, having as much light as possible will be helpful... Miss Venja is right - daybreak would be better...
Comfortable with this, he waits to see what the others will say.
In addition the usual hash he brings, he’ll remember to bring some snacks for Sheelah and Venja’s rabbit. The rest of his gear is ready. He’ll make sure his armor is well polished and his bow is ready; his arrows are already sharpened and so are his blades. If the gang has other requests, he’ll wait. If not, he’ll sack out and get ready for what’s up next.
Gabryjel Kazimierz
"Wait for morrow? I don't know if I like that. Can't we create light sources to see by?"
Gabryjel turns to look at Xanxan.
"Yes. It's called fire," Gabryjel says eventually.
He looks at the gnome for a moment longer.
"But it does not offer much light to see... and we can see only what is very close... we may miss clues."
"Carried light can be seen a long way by things that hide in the dark... even if we cannot see them."
His jaw open and closes reflexively.
"Carrying light makes us targets for enemies."
"I do not wish to be a target."
"But I will go now... if it is decided."
Variel Whitestorm
I have the means to create a light source if need be. It will allow us to travel at least till we get there. Then if we find we can not find much we can camp there for the night. It saves us time int he morning and gives us the opportunity to find out what we can tonight if people don't mind roughing it a little. Aneira and I have a tent already but I do not know about the rest of you for accommodations.
Whatever direction we take I am fine with it.

Gabryjel turns and looks at Variel for a moment.
He doesn't care about being a target... interesting...
He shrugs and turns and looks back at the others.
”Tonight or tomorrow doesn’t matter, then.”
”Someone make a decision.”
He looks at the others for some sort of answer, his eyes lingering gently on Venja for a moment, but he waits for a formal answer so he can act.
Aneira Whitestorm
Having heard her husband's words on the matter of travelling through the night, and making camp if need be, Aneira nods her assent, trusting in his instincts.
"I believe we should go as soon as we are ready. As Variel and Beck have stated, if we cannot discover the Lady Argentea or her captors during the course of the night, we can make camp and wait until dawn."
Beck Tavis
"Aye, Lets try at following the trail or at lest cover some ground while we can tonight and make camp on the way. We'll see what Sheelah can scent out if anything. We'll get our gear and get moving. Twenty minutes should be enough time you said?" Beck suggests. think remember reading something about 20 miutes. We got some shopping to do...
"We can at least make it to where the Lady was taken and figure where they went, even if we can't follow straight off, we can get an idea of where to start."
Beck will take some time with sheelah to get the scent of the Ulfen guard and try to reverse the direction he went to track.
survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Sheelah aiding in tracking via Scent
survival: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26 to track the directions of the Ulfen

Having heard her husband's words on the matter of travelling through the night, and making camp if need be, Aneira nods her assent, trusting in his instincts.
Gabryjel studies Aneira’s face very intently for a long moment, noting especially her eyes and gauging her tone and inflection when she spoke, as if trying to read something.
Than his eyes instantly become neutral.
At least we have decided.
Turning, he leaves the building and goes to fetch his gear from his home; gathering his possessions quickly as it seems they are leaving now.
Fey are not usually evil, I think… but the northman said those who served followed some Winter Witches. That means that witchcraft is our chief foe.
He pauses, thinking a moment.
Of old they said that fire was the purifier. Further still, they used fire to destroy witches… perhaps fire may aid us in such a fight?
With that in mind, Gabryjel will also take 6 flasks of oil and add them to his gear.
Then he will return to Beck.
Beck will take some time with sheelah to get the scent of the Ulfen guard and try to reverse the direction he went to track.
He watches the intent examination of the ground that both Beck and Sheelah will conduct, as they sniff and and search for some time in the dim moonlight.
”The northman said the attack happened south... on the road... six miles from here,” he says eventually.
”Finding the place of the attack may be hard… finding the road south should be easy,” he says, looking at Beck with a blank expression, his right lip almost twisting into a teasing smile at the Tiefling.

Xanxan nods,"We go tonight, but let's get that gear. No point in all freezing" and heads towards Vivallia's doors. It maybe late, but no doubt she's still up just yet doing stock perhaps?
He knocks on the door and waits. When/if she opens, he looks out from the hood of his own currently worn Cold Weather outfit and says, "I'm terribly sorry to have bothered you at this time of night, but there's something of an emergency for our village and CERTAINLY an emergency for a lost noble woman." The amiable gnome will explain hastily how a lost noble could mean in the future their business will die in this town, and, of course, how its the heroic thing to do as he tries to get a good deal on enough cold weather outfits (That fit his friends) and winter blankets for the job. He might even try for one extra in the hopes it fits any noble they rescue.
If I take 10 on a diplomacy roll I should get a 16 but I can roll if that still won't be enough.
Venja
"Well, if it's decided we leave tonight, then tonight it is. I have to go home and gather up a few things and leave a note on my door for anyone who comes seeking me. I will see you all shortly. Shall we gather back in the town square?"
Once a meeting place has been decided, Venja rushes off home. She gathers her meager adventuring gear, such as it is, a warmer shawl for the prospective cold weather that they might encounter, and hastily scrawls a note."
THe note reads: I am sorry to have missed you. If you seek aid, please go see Tess.
She secures the note to the front door with a couple of nails and with her small pack, goes out to meet the rest of the party.

When you go over to the stables to secure horses you see that Sophia only has two light horses and a small pony for hire. When you ask about it she says Well I had more but several farmers came in to hire them to try and get a replant on some of their crops that suddenly died due to the frost. I tried to tell them that it wouldn't do no good until the weather turned but you know how stubborn farmers can be. In any event, I wasn't gonna turn down good coin. It's normal price, two gold pieces per day with a deposit of 75% the cost of bit bridle saddle and horse which is returned to you upon return of the horse and gear in good condition. I also take collateral as you well know in lieu of coin for the deposit.
So it's two gold pieces per day plus a deposit of 67 gold, 2 silver, and 5 copper per horse. The deposit you get back upon return of the horses. You could probably talk her down a bit with some good rolls.
DM Immortal
As soon as I get a list of everything you guys are buying/selling/doing and when you definitely want to leave I will move on. If I don't have that list by tonight, I will move on anyway and anything that is not on your sheet you don't have. This campaign I will be tracking equipment and encumbrance carefully so keep that in mind. I would like it if you put it on your sheet as well as where things are kept. For instance if you keep gear on your horses or in your backpack that you drop as soon as combat starts, etc. I need to know that. Let me know if you have any questions.
Xanxan Gimblewabe
Ok. I notice two of us don't have cold weather outfits, Variel and Venja. So Xanxan plans to buy three outfits, one each for them, plus one more for the noble woman who maybe freezing when we find her. Which should take all twenty four of his gold left unless he can get a good discount. If he can talk her down, he'd like to throw an extra winter blanket on top of that.
He plans to hand those outfits out to others to carry if they are stronger than he.
Venja
Venja has endure elements and doesn't need the cold weather gear, but then you might not know that in character, lol
Variel Whitestorm
Variel is purchasing one already and getting the money from his lovely wife. I sense a trend about to start...Um, dear, I need money for _______.
Thanks though Xanxan.
Variel will follow his wife's lead but is in favor of leaving now and camping if necessary.
Aneira Whitestorm
Aneira has assented to her husband's plan in her last posting yesterday. :)
Aneira also has Northern Ancestry and the Child of Winter revelation (giving her the constant benefit of endure elements, but only against cold temp). She has a cold weather outfit in her pack, just in case, it is required by anyone.
Venja
note please too regarding leaving tonight that spellcasters won't get their rest to rememorize spells in the morning, and being honest about spell choices for the day, mine are optimized for being in town, not for adventuring...
Aneira Whitestorm
Aneira has a quiet word to Tessaraea regarding purchasing flasks of her alchemist's fire.
"Tess, I remember you have a number of flasks of alchemist's fire. I would like to purchase some from you for our journey to find Lady Argentea. It would do to be prepared, especially with fire weapons."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Imm, what price is Tess charging for the alchemist fire? It will give me an idea how much Anee can afford. Thanks.
Aneira Whitestorm
"Oh and Tess, the Potion of Resist Energy (Cold)? How much do you want for it?"
Sorry, I forgot to include that in my previous posting. Imm, it would be all under the same DIP check.
Gabryjel Kazimierz
GM - Gabryjel has some things he'd like to buy, but I'm not positive if I can afford them. How much gold were we granted to start again? I'm trying to figure out my exact change.
Also, if we're not bargaining for a horse, that's fine; just wanted to know what's up; as lots of our gear is kind of heavy; having a horse to haul trail rations and other camping supplies could be useful.
Aneira Whitestorm
Gabe, both Aneira and Beck would like to hire a horse and wagon. It has not been played out on the board yet as Aneira is currently bargaining for other items. Once we hear from Immortal (re the checks and prices), I can make further postings. I made mention of what we could go for on the discussion board but other than Beck no one has mentioned if they want any of those things.
Venja
Venja, ready to go otherwise, stops by Tess' to see about purchasing an alchemists' fire, perhaps even meeting Aneira there.

That's cool; I think we're all just waiting for the GM, then.
Other than the myriad answers we're looking for, I think we're all good then.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
The alchemist fire will be 15 after haggling so you get a 25% discount. Cold resist potion is normally 300 so that will come down to 233. Xanxan you get a 10% discount on all of your purchases i.e. the cold weather gear and blankets and such. I'm having everyone start at 180 gp which is a little higher than the average for any class and significantly higher for some classes but it's a good jumping off point I think.
DM Immortal
The wagon will require one horse to haul but requires a full deposit as it is more likely to break down and get damaged, stuck in the mud, etc. than a horse. So together without a diplomacy check you will need 117 gp.
Venja
oh my - I have a lot more gold than I thought I did then...

What is the cost to outright purchase them?
Gabryjel Kazimierz
DM Immortal
The wagon is 50 gp and the horse is 87 with the bit bridle and riding saddle.
Aneira Whitestorm
Going to Sophia Imirras (at Livery Stable) to enquire into a wagon and horse for hire or outright purchase. Venja if you want to come along and aid in haggling, that would be great. Thanks.
Diplomacy to haggle for wagon and horse: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Venja
why do we need a riding saddle for a cart horse?
how many flasks does Tess have left ? any? Venja will buy any leftover.
Venja
ah ok - Imm - Can Venja get the same deal Aneira got on the alchemist fires? if so, she'll buy 3 or 4 of them.
Venja
Venja buys 3 more alchemist fires, which is all she can carry. She will offer her remaining coins for joint purchases.
62 gold, 7 sp
DM Immortal
Ok heading to bed. Will update in the morning but assume you all can get on the road whenever you wish.
Venja
After buying her alchemical items and providing funds for a group purchase of perhaps a horse and cart, Venja and Snow wait in the town square for the rest of the party.

Gabryjel moves out of the town’s square.
He’s got his gear on him and slung over his shoulder he has his pack, which he promptly deposits on the wagon.
He looks briefly at Venja, then glances away quickly. Then he bends down to Snow and offers him a piece of carrot which he had taken from somewhere as a snack.
He bend down and feeds small pieces of it to the rabbit while he waits for the others.
Aneira Whitestorm
With Variel having collected her pack and gear when he went home to get his own, and with her purchases from Tess in hand, Aneira stands beside her husband and waits for the others to meet up in the town square until they are ready to depart.
Aneira can only allocate 16 gp to the group fund for joint purchases.
IMM, did Aneira's DIP check of 22 aid in reducing the price of horse and wagon?
Variel Whitestorm
116 gp 7 sp thus far plus diplomacy check not counting Xanxan and Beck. Should be doable if each has 10 gp to contribute. So who can drive this thing? Xanxan has a decent charisma and is the slowest so we will be able to go faster if he is riding.
