Sorry, I didn't expect it to kill him outright. I'm sorry.

On the plus side - we just broke 1,000 posts...

He may not be "dead, dead, just mostly dead" but you don't know exactly.

Hmm... in that case, can I ready an action to shoot at Miracle Max if he shows up? I couldn't fail that attack because even if I didn't get a natural 20, it wouldn't matter, because I am not left handed... ;)

For the record, I dont' much care about wether the guy's alive or dead, but it may prove to be inconvenient if he is dead. now ets kill some zombies!

Xanxan doesn't shed a tear as the man goes down. He feels similar to Gabe on the matter. But he also keeps an eye out on the zombies to see if they crumble now that their summoner is gone or keep going on the attack.

Beck Tavis wrote:

He glances over at Beck.

"Whatever, man. The basterd pissed me off. 'Sides, I figured they'd all drop if I put him down."

He glances around at the other corpses.

"Meantime, you want these walkers to drop than maybe less yakking and more hacking," he adds as he looks around at the undead.

Ironically Beck I wish I hadn't killed him now out of game if he has info for us; but in-game I'd be crushing his skull right now so he can't be raised if I was standing next to him. Damn, it's not always easy to play a zombie-hating archer :)

I know you went, Beck - Gabryjel is just putting out some in-game banter for fun :) But you're right, though - in game I would be next to you stomping these guys. It's just tricky to figure out how I'd play that "in-game".

For example, if this was someone like Horatio I'd be taking both vials of alchemist fire and throwing them at once at J:21, taking the penalty for two-weapon fighting because it's splash weapons, but hoping that the ranged touch attacks would be enough to effect them with splash effect and that the effect would be enough to take down a chunk of these guys because that's "tactical".

On the other hand, Gabe himself would probably drop his bow as a free action and draw his hatchet and short sword as part of a move action; and 5 foot step to J:18 hit the zombie at J:19 and than full attack them next round if it doesn't drop him. It's not a smart move without weapon finesse and/or two-weapon fighting; but damn it would feel good to have the shiver of the weapon tremble up your arm as it connects with their skulls.

But at this point I think we all went, so now we'll have to wait to see what the GM does next round. Hopefully his plan is to miss everybody :)

The bandit leader fallen from arrow and claw the zombies are free to attack whoever is in their way. In the meantime Venja sends a shard of ice into the zombie attacking Beck.

GM stuff:

1 on Sheelah 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
2 on Variel 2d20 + 2 ⇒ (3, 13) + 2 = 18 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 3 = 12
1 on Tacey 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
crit confirm1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
1 on Aneira 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1 on Beck 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
1 drooling

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

I a flurry of ineptitude of attacks the zombies lay into the party. One lucky zombie hits Tacey hard but fails to crit her for 8 damage. The rest of the zombies are pitiful and none roll higher than a 13.

Taking some hard damage Tacey swings her shortsword at the zombie missing. She steps back a pace to give herself some separation from the undead.

Variel steps up onto the table and draws his dagger as the piercing rapier is not doing as much as he would like. Again Variel enchants the dagger to make it magical and Variel attacks the zombie that is attacking his wife. Hoping he can at least hit it to distract its attention.

attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
crit confirm 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

The slashing dagger proved more effective and the zombie crumbles in a heap at his feet. Calling out to the rest Variel hopes they have weapons other than piercing as well.Don't use piercing weapons. My rapier went through last tie but my dagger works now.

combat map with Variel and Tacey acted already

Since I stuffed up the withdraw action, I'm going to retcon Anee's action. Sorry, please bear with me. If I have done this wrong, please let me know.

Grateful to Variel for felling the Undead bandit which was determined to finish her, Aneira did not want to move lest she attracted the attention of the Undead bandits around her and was was hit again. Her wounds were severe and currently she was a liability to the group and an easy target if she let herself be. She's down to 2 HP. She had closed the door earlier to make it appear as though everything was alright inside the lodge. And she wouldn't leave herself separated from her allies outside of the lodge.

She stays put at G:23 and defends herself as a standard action.

Total Defense. +4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round. Anee's AC improves at the start of this action.

Aneira's AC will increase to 18 for a round.

Hearing Variel's advice, Beck switches hands with his club and draws his scimitar taking a slash at the Zombie in his range.

Slash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Since these guys are kinda tough to hit, Sheelah doesn't slash quite as hard, trying to find purchase with her claws.
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Claw: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Claw: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Nice hit Beck, you destroyed the zombie on you but Sheelah needs to confirm her crit for max damage to take hers out. HP is 7 with 5/ slashing on a zombie btw so you can add flavor on your attacks if you want.

GM - your post; is that DR 5 against all weapons BUT slashing? I'm sorry, I can never remember how that coding thing works; but for my edification - blunt weapons are ALSO at a -5 penalty?

If that's true; that slashing weapons (like a meat cleaver) can do more damage to a zombie than a Mace can; than Paizo has fixed one of the most stupid and broken rules since Infravision! :)

Gabryjel jerks his ax as part of his Move Action and charges over to G:20 to slash at the enemy at G:21.

Attack with ax
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

If it hits -
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Sheelah's confirmation Dunno if it hits tho =/
Confirmation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

But Beck seems to have tossed his club to his shield hand and in one swift motion, Draws his Scimitar and slices clean through the recently risen corpse and steps forward to i:20 and gets ready to finish this one off.

if sheelah manages to ht then her claws rake through this walking corpse, ripint it too severely for it to remain up. Otherwise she jsut slices into it and tears a small hole into the wobbly bugger.

The thing after the / is the thing that gets past the DR. so it has DR 5/slashing meaning that slashing weapons bypass the DR. so axes are good. remember if it says DR 5/magic or Cold Iron, it means magic or Cold Irons bypass the DR. the and/or in the DR is another question but bacisally hit it with what is after the "/" symbol. DR ?/- means nothing gets through it

Beck Tavis wrote:

"Hell yeah, brother," Gabryjel hollers with enthusiasm as he tries to take the one out by Aneira and does a pretty weak job of it (hopefully drawing the attention of the creature from her, though).

His eyes dart to the cluster of them standing in a tight bunch at J:21. Recalling quickly that his companions had alchemist fire on them and never used it, his eyes narrow.

"If someone don't throw some of those fire bombs at that bunch I swear to gods I'll kick your ass myself after we're done with them!" he adds with a fierce growl.

GM - I believe that Venja has at least 2 alchemist fire potions and i think she's not going to be able to post based on what she said in her other game. Is it possible she could give those a toss for her action? That's kind of Gabryjel's suggestion at this point...

Aneira Whitestorm wrote:

It looks like that's all there is to go.

Meantime, I have a hunch we're close to finishing these things. If we can do it and get through the fight that means if we do we can go to sleep in game and wake up rested.

Also, it's a defensible place and there may be supplies inside once we clear out the bad guys.

Plus, according to my math we're still less than 7 hours from the town. Which means once we get the hostage saved (if she's still alive); we can haul all this stuff back home in less than a day and sell it for better gear.

Anyhow, it's been more than 24 hours, and they may not be able to post and need to be NPC'd (I believe Venja will be busy with family for a few days anyway).

Any way you slice it, I'm eager to see what happens next :)

Nice shot, Venja!

Xanxan shot to aid Sheelah's attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 Really a nat 20 on an aid.

Not having much in the way of weaponry, spells or a flank, Xanxan fires at the zombie attacking Sheelah trying to distract it as Sheelah is backed into a corner. Gabe rushes over to help with he zombies and hits it with the axe but not felling it yet. Venja's magic finally finds its target and a chunk of flesh falls frozen to the ground but remains standing.

GM stuff, but go ahead and look nothing higher than a 9 except for tacey's:

1 on Sheelah 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
2 on Variel 2d20 + 2 ⇒ (1, 9) + 2 = 12 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3) + 3 = 10
1 on Gabe 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
1 moved

Tacey attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Apparently leaderless the zombies have no driving force and simply are content to stand there in what they think is an aggressive stance (They are mindless creatures so who knows) instead of trying to feast on fresh flesh.

Tacey steps up to attack the one by Beck and connects but not hard enough to drop it.

Good guys up and Sheelah gets a +2 for first attack from aid.

Does anyone know what the thing on L:23 is?

Gabryjel looks over at Aneira, seeing her in the corner.

"Step up and try to distract this basterd; he's dicey, if you move up and piss him off a little, I should be able to put him down hard!" he says.

Basically asking if Aneira can 5 foot step to flank is all.

I think that's the Ice Mephit Xan saw earlier up in the tree on the other side of the lodge. That's my guess anyway.

Aneira is flanking with Gabe now.

What thing in L:23? ;P

Aneira steps up and slashes the zombie with her dagger providing
Gabe with a flank to distract the mindless undead.

It's like a little blue symbol like a bat with some kind of thing dangling from its feet.

Aneira thinks it's the mephit, but I don't know if it's intentional or not...

EDIT: Hmm... I think I need to retract my comment as I just noticed your "winky" face there = ;)

This leads me to believe he's some kind of monster of icy issue at least (hence the blue); so that's good to know, I guess. But it would be better if he was the Healing Fairy from Legend of Zelda though :)

After Tacey's strike, felling the last Undead, Aneira gave quiet thanks to the half-orc for coming to Variel's aid.

Aneira looked deeply at her husband, seeing full well how much damage had been done to him by the Undead bandits. As was his way, he had attempted to hide it from her but she had keen eyes and senses and understood his stoicism. She listened as Venja offered her healing and knew that she, personally, had more to give and would do so come morning.

"Conserve your magic, my friend. I shall mend my husband come morning."

"Variel, when you are done, I shall bathe those wounds and bandage them."

Her eyes held Variel's a moment longer before she nodded and watched her husband and the others rally to search and then remove the fallen Undead. Aneira's several wounds ached but this wasn't the time to stop and examine them.

She moved to the bandit leader, Rohkar, dagger in hand, and cautiously checked his condition and then would search his person for a holy symbol. If she found one, she would remove it from his person lest the caster found a way to cheat death with his magic.

Heal check to determine if he is alive or dead: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Perception- searching the leader's body: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Searching Rohkar you find him completely dead. That last arrow killed him before he hit the floor. On his body Aneira you find...

MW studded leather, dagger, light crossbow with 10 bolts, mwk dagger, magical cloak, mwk thieves' tools, ring of 3 keys, stolen spellbook (contains alarm, chill touch, expeditious retreat.featherfall, identify, locate object, and ray ofenfeeblement), wooden unholy symbol of Norgorber, 18 gp.

If shown to Xanxan he deduces that at least one of the keys is for a door while the other two would be more akin to be used in a padlock.

On each of the 10 bandits is..

Leather armor
Buckler
Shortsword
Short bow
20 arrows
8 gp
5 sp

"As you wish, others will need healing as well. We might end up staying here more than one day to heal all who need it and still have some magic for the return journey. We shall see. Now where is that captive we came to free?"

She begins searching around upstairs, using detect magic to hopefully find some healing potions, or other items the bandits may have stored away, and to find the Lady.
