DM Immortal |

I'm not going to worry about a battlemap for this one as it's just the two of them duking it out really. Unless a huge brawl breaks out...which would really not be good...I'll just keep it narrative for now.
Sko 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Owlbear 1d20 ⇒ 13
Sko and Owlbear make their way into the ring of pirates. Owlbear flexes and roars at the group while having a smile on his face. Plugg takes the chain off of the big man before yelling Break him, Owlbear! Scourge and the Captain are up on the stern deck watching with glasses of wine. You notice that even some of those whom you have befriended are getting caught up in the spectacle though Sandara looks on with obvious disgust. The two combatants square off against each other and then rush each other in a flurry of fists, feet, knees, elbows, and heads.
Owlbear smiles and nods when Sko says they will have a good fight. He then rushes forward and throws a massive punch at Sko, roaring at him.
Owlbear Unarmed Attack on Sko
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage
1d3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Nonlethal
Owlbear connects solidly along Sko's jaw but Sko manages to roll with it a bit and mitigates some of the force.
Sko, you're up.

DM Immortal |

@Horatio: Grok is watching the fight and isn't really interested in talking about your gear. In fact, she says I already gave your gear, minus any coin you had, over to Valeros in exchange for that fine axe you all had. I'd talk to him if you want your stuff. She turns back to watch the fight and continues drinking.

Horatio Flynn |

"Ah - thank you," I say.
Annoyed at the fight, and fairly convinced now in the outcome of it anyway, I will do my best to ignore it.
Instead, I will leave the selling of the shield for Jiro to conclude, and I shall move over to Valeros.
"Hello, Valeros," I say to him, as I approach.
"The quartermaster Grok as told me that you now have possession of not only gear, but the rest of the company," I add.
"Were you planning on sharing that with us, or keeping it to yourself?" I ask, more about the knowledge of the gear, then the gear itself.
"In any case - since you now have our gear, what will have to happen for us to get it back?" I ask him, as the fight continues.

Valeros Jaloksin |

Valeros waves Horatio off distractedly. I could care less about your stuff, you want it back then we'll figure something out. Right now there are bigger concerns to be dealt with. Valeros turns back to the fight, watching Sko to see if he'll manage to ward off the beating he was receiving.

![]() |

Come on Sko give him a good one. Jab with the left and hit him with the right. Watch t for that haymaker... Variel will watch both opponents closely. With the way Plugg and Scourge are, it is very possible that this may be a gauntlet of sorts. Whoever is left standing has to fight the next person and so on until there is a predetermined number of fights. Either that or the winner will recoup and fight someone tomorrow. Either way, Variel wants to be prepared. Hopefully he will never have to fight his companions, but the Wormwood has ways of putting allies against one another.
Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Dhaavan |

Dhaavan takes a look about for Peppery Longfarthing. When she diagnosed Maheem's wounds for those caused by an attacking bird, SHe didn't really seem to care and bore us no particular ill will. Dhaavan wonders what her take on the festivities are, thinking she may be the one officer that they could get an in with, if he is very careful in choosing his words this evening, and can catch her apart from the others.
Considering his options, Dhaavan looks at the run in his hands, and. feeling the potential need for some liquid confidence, he uses some minor magic and Prestidigitates the rum's taste to something less foul and swills it, feeling it relax his nerves and loosen his tongue, while he glanced around the crowd watching the fight.
Jack pecks him on the head and gives him the best "look" that a tiny bird can, considering it has a beek and not a mouth, and says,

DM Immortal |

Seijiro |

perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Seijiro calls out in Minkaian to Sko, and then realizes no one understands him, he puts his hand over his mouth as he realizes he's made a faux pas, one that could earn him the ire of Scourge and Plugg if they understood him. Taking care not to repeat himself aloud in Common, he squints his eyes closed and wills Sko to notice Owlbear's infirmity himself.
It's not that I wish the worst for Owlbear, but I do hope Sko wins the fight. Owlbear might still be won over if Sko doesn't hurt him badly, but if Sko loses, we might all be called upon to fight Owlbear one at a time. Actually that wouldn't be a bad thing. Knowing what I know, I could avoid his clumsy attacks and come at him when he can't see me.

DM Immortal |

Actually Sko that hits. He only has an AC of 9 lol. Roll damage.

Horatio Flynn |

Hmm - I think Sko would have rolled higher... Meanwhile - I guess it's Owlbear's turn?
Also - now that Sko knows his AC - I presume he can - in the future - just toss up his damage with the "to hit" roll, too?

DM Immortal |

Throwing punches back and forth the two trade equal blows though you suspect that Owlbear may be able to keep this up a bit longer if things stay as they are.
Owlbear roars back and throws another punch at Sko while the crowd and especially Plugg cheers him on.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
1d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

DM Immortal |

@Dhaavan: Peppery doesn't seem to be on deck. You would guess she is in her laboratory.

Dhaavan |

Does she seem to have come out in the evenings, at lease to get dinner? Is there some time that she might not be in her lab and not be super occupied, based on where she's been the past few days?
Dhaavan would not have recognized her as anyone special before the fight, but after, he would at least have recognized that there was the officer that doesn't seem to hold them in contempt.

Horatio Flynn |

Hey - quick question - this guy has really low AC right? Well - why doesn't Sko hit him with a quick "One-Two?"
According to Two-Weapon fighting - via "Off Handed Weapon Light" - he could take a wack at this dude via -4, -8, and with his Strength bonus he'd tap up to a -1, -5. That means in the next round he'd have an average of 50% chance to hit with the first hit, and the second hit is 30% chance - for a potential mean average possibility of minimum damage of 20 damage in the next 5 rounds, as opposed to his standard average of 5 points per round success rate at 70% chance success for a total potential of (roughly) 15 points - but he'll tap it sooner then later... !
Just saying...

Dhaavan |

Good point, flynn. although Owlbear's mimimum damage is 4, so he'd have to miss this turn to give sko a chance to do that.
but at that point, there's low enough odds of surviving the next swing, that a hail mary TWF could be worth it.

Horatio Flynn |

Not entirely correct - Owlbear can hit for 4 damage - and then Sko is staggered... Maybe he can do it... possibly... Just maybe he'll pull it off - somehow - I thought he had been magically healed before this nonsense anyway - oh well; I guess that point is moot. Even so - we may get lucky.

![]() |

Hit him from the left Sko. Change tactics, jab with the right and move in from your left. Keep it up. You got him. Keep him off balance. hopefully running his mouth doesn't draw too much notice from those around him. If so Variel could be in for a world of hurt.

Rain Taneththir |

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 (yeah now I get the 20 ;p)
Rain knows not to call out to Sko with what she has observed of Owlbear's impairment, so she stands beside the others watching the fist fight, trying to hide her distaste at the proceedings or her concern for Sko and the rest of her allies. Owlbear is a simpleton and using him this way is wicked, she declares privately. Plugg may you be struck down by lightning.
She begins subtly touching beneath her right eye, hoping that Sko, if he looks her way, notices the consistent movement and perhaps can decipher it. Long shot, I know. But what else can I do...

Rain Taneththir |

Rain hears Variel give instruction and she glances over at Plugg and then Scourge hoping the curs had not heard him.

DM Immortal |

@Dhaavan: She does come out for punishments as everyone does on the ship but doesn't seem particularly interested. You suspect that she is more bored with it than anything else. She isn't sadistic like Scourge or Plugg and isn't as violent natured as the Captain but you aren't sure whether that is just because she finds herself to be above it or what. She spends most of her time in her lab or on deck performing her duties as sailing master.

DM Immortal |

Sko catches Rain's eye and hears Variel's instructions. Seeing the advantage he begins to circle around trying to keep in the bigger man's blind spot.
Sko, you get +2 to Perception from Rain and Variel which gives you enough notice that if you wish to try and avoid the next blow you can give it a shot.
Owlbear roars again after being hit and throws a punch back.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
1d3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
You are up Sko. Either an acrobatics or bluff check DC 10 will dodge his clumsy, but strong, blows.

DM Immortal |

Also, everyone move to the discussion thread for a special announcement from our sponsors! :-)

Sko |

Sko is staggered; can he make the Bluff attempt and still attack? I don't have my book in front of me; what's the action equivalency of making a skill check? If I can't do both then I'll just attack; can't just dodge forever.
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
I finally notice Rain and Variel's indications...
Bluff 1d20 ⇒ 4
...but my feet feel like lead and I'm unable to take advantage of the weakness.
Two-Fisted Action Attack!
Left Cross! 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12 Damage! 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Right Uppercut! 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (7) - 5 = 2 Damage! 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
There seem to be two Owlbears and it's hard to focus on both. The left cross connects but the right uppercut seems to pass right through the second Owlbear.
I thought this was supposed to be one on one...

DM Immortal |

No action for those skill checks in this regard so don't worry about it. Although since you missed the check and are now staggered you can only make a standard or move action so you can't do a one-two because of the fact that would be a full attack action so only the first attack hits...but it is a great hit!
Owlbear hits you with a solid blow rocking you to your core. Somehow managing to keep your feet, you throw a wild haymaker that connects with a vicious crack. Owlbear grabs his jaw and backs away crying before Plugg and his lackeys push him back in. Get back in there and fight you stupid oaf! Owlbear goes in but won't come near you, cowering and waiting for you to hit him again.

Seijiro |

"Let him alone!" Whether he shouts this to Sko or Owlbear or Plugg, it's hard to say, though Owlbear seems to have already decided to let his opponent be. Seijiro does seem to be looking at Sko though.
I've already made friends with the poor unfortunate. Don't want Sko turning him unfriendly again. I know he's Plugg's apparent pet but he's a human being... simple maybe but still human, and doesn't deserve to be chained like a wild animal and treated so poorly.
He mutters softly but just loud enough to be heard by those around him, "Fight's over, Owlbear's done... the prize is Sko's."

DM Immortal |

This is kind of a spot where I need to know what Sko does before I can do anything as it can affect quite a bit and I don't want to NPC for him due to that. I am pretty sure what he will do but I need to let him decide on this one.

Sko |

"It's clear that I've won," Sko says loudly but in a flat tone to no one in particular; he still doesn't look at Plugg. "I accept Owlbear's surrender. Anyone disagree with that?" he finishes, turning to glare at the crew but not the officers.

Seijiro |

"Daikitsu wa shōsan sa reru," he mutters softly with a broad smile on his face. Then he looks to the officers, particularly Plugg, for his reaction to Sko's pronouncement.

DM Immortal |

Plugg looks on enraged and says The fights not done yet! He's still awake! You've won nothing! He smacks Owlbear again and says Fight him you miserable wretch! He reaches back to hit him again and a booming voice peals out from the stern deck.
Enough Plugg! The creature is beaten and I need him well enough to guard the officer's doors. Captain Harrigan says in a bored voice. It is obvious he cares little for the Owlbear but doesn't want him overly injured either because of his usefulness.
Plugg throws a murderous look at the group that promises this won't be the last you hear of it before long. Scourge cracks the whip over Owlbear's head and says Back below Owlbear...and put yer collar back on! Owlbear looks up from between his fingers over his eyes and throws a worshipful look at you all...it appears you have made a friend...before he puts his chains back on and heads back to his station below.
The crowd breaks up and Sandara, throwing a smile your way gently nudges the bag of gold towards Sko with her foot.
Owlbear's attitude moved to Helpful+

DM Immortal |

You are all free to do as you wish for the night as usual before turning in.
If you haven't given me night actions please do so now...and if you have...remind me what they were lol.

Seijiro |

At the captain's declaration of Owlbear's purpose for being chained below, Seijiro casts a surreptitious look over at Flynn, with whom he'd worked in concert to make friends with the hulking simpleton.
He walks over to Flynn and whispers to him softly.
stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
(Whether or not he again tries to salt Maheem's locker again depends on what he finds.)

DM Immortal |

Seijiro |

Seijiro does play his harmonica again that night when he has a few free minutes, but not so much to entertain others as to entertain himself, though it is loud enough for others to hear... he seems to take solace from it's tones.
If Rosie plays her fiddle, he'll join her in an impromptu session.

Seijiro |

Does that succeed?
If so, Seijiro will be in a quandary, he does so like sparkly shiny things and wants to keep the earring. It's value isn't so important... it's pretty. In the end, he reluctantly slips it into Maheem's locker
disable: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 for Maheem's locker
If he can't get into Maheem's locker tonight, he'll hang onto the earring for the time being, stashing it carefully in the folds of his haramaki.

Horatio Flynn |

To Valeros
Once Owlbear has moved off; I will turn to Valeros.
"Are you going to return our gear to us now, or keep it?" I ask him bluntly.
Once I get Valeros's answer - I shall then go down to comfort Owlbear. Specifically, I will bring him either food or drink.
If I have my gear returned - I have nothing really to do; the crew is clear on who they support; and who they oppose - the lines are divided now. And I'm not really looking to do much - though - if anyone needs assistance with anything - I will do what I can to help the first person who asks.

Horatio Flynn |

"I thought we were to divide the gold equally?" I respond dryly.
"In any case - I don't really need it, or care to have it, once Valeros returns my gear. The only thing I would like to have at this time - perhaps - is another set of doses for my healing kit; and possibly a healing potion - if I can find it. Not for myself," I add "but for any that could use it."
"But for now I am content to have my gear; sequestered below - safe and sound. Presuming the one-legged man returns it. It may also be useful for the others to have their gear returned as well. But for gold? For now, I have little use for it on this tub - only my arms, armor, and my meals - that is all I truly need," I add, watching our wake in the distance.

Seijiro |

Sko |

Sko, rather unsteadily, reaches down and grabs the bag of gold. He blinks at it a few times trying to wonder what he was going to do next. It occurs to him that having a big bag of gold on a pirate ship, without being an officer, isn't particularly healthy. He'll blearily look around for Fishgut and see if he has any idea where he can safely stash it.
He'll take no night action. Getting punched by Owlbear was like standing behind a mule and letting the thing kick you over and over. He just wants some water to drink and the most quiet place he can find until his head stops pounding.

Horatio Flynn |

"You would charge me to replenish my healers kit, eh?" I say with a cocked eye.
"Well - if that is a business arrangement you would like me to keep balances on, that is your affair. Of course - I will not tell you what to do - or how to do business."
"Here - here is your gold - keep it, then. As I said - once I get my gear back, I will want for little," I add.
I glance to the sky, then back to Jiro.
"I apologize for how business between us has unfolded - it is not the way I would have preferred it. Sorry for troubling you; and please - enjoy your night." I say with a nod.
I turn to Sko and speak quietly to him with an aside.
"As a suggestion - if you need the gold; that is fine - but consider how the crew would treat you if your "generosity" gave the gold to them to enjoy. You could be the hero of the ship; and I should think it would go well with how you would seek to effect the crew - eh?"
"Of course - the gold is yours, but chances are that Plugg will send some of his sods to try to reclaim it. If you share it, you could improve your chances at finding allies as well as forestalling a threat from him - of course - it is just a suggestion," I say, walking back him with a nod and a shrug.

Dhaavan |

As Sko starts moving off toward Fishguts, Dhaavan slides him, "Groak could also keep it safe for yea, likely as not."
Looks like Peppry is off the table then? Dhaavan wnats to find a time that he can try to talk to her, so he'll be paying careful attention to where she is over the next few days and try to find a time to approach. But for tonight , lets make a new friend!
Influence: Shivika
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Dhaavan shrugs ass he cannot find the Sailing master, but scanning the crowd, Dhaavan picks out unique woman whom he's noticed before. Feeling nice and warm inside, glad to have seen Sko win the fight and see how Owlbear seems to be behaving toward his "companions" Dhaavan almost has a swaggar in his step. I like when things go well, and that certainly ended better than i could have imagined!
He takes a place near the woman, "Oye there! They put that Owlbear fellow into those fights often, new batches o' recruits get put through the gauntlet, or we gettin some special treatment for gettin them specially ticked at us? Name's Dhaavan, by the way, you are?"
Dhaavan avoids getting invasive, but does ask where she was from, not being familiar with her look, and curious, sharing some stories about his wanderings and the tales he's heard, asking about any of hers.
Pitty i can't find Peppery...

Sko |

Sko tries to pay attention to what Horatio is saying but the bruises and swelling are making him feel a little dizzy and about every third word drops out
"As a suggestion - if you ... the gold; ... is fine - ... consider how the crew would ... you if ... "generosity" gave ... gold to ... to enjoy. ... could be ... hero of ... ship; and I should think ... would go ... with how ... would seek ... effect the ... - eh?"
"Of course - ... gold is ..., but chances ... that Plugg ... send some ... his sods ... try to reclaim .... If you share ..., you could ... your chances ... finding allies as ... as forestalling ... threat from ... - of course - it ...... a suggestion,"
The words: generosity, hero, Plugg, reclaim and share make Sko think he understands what Horatio is trying to say so he grunts and nods and goes looking for Fishgut and his quiet spot.

Horatio Flynn |

Sorry I can't help you Sko - I don't have any ability to magically aid you, and my first aid would probably do little, or I would do that. In the morning, though - I will do what I can.

Variel cheers on the victorious Sko even though he is surprised at the results. Sko managed to land the right blow just when it mattered most. Hopefully none of the officers noticed his and Rain's involvement. After the crowd separates, Variel will attempt to find Badger again. Still in elven, Tell me, would you like to take a quiet spin around he deck to accompany Jiro's harmonica? I am sure that y LCD tach me some new moves that I have not seen before. That is the beauty of dancing with other partners. The new intracacies in the dancing. It keeps one alert and refreshed. Believe me, Rain is an excellent dancer and a joy to be with, but tonight I wish to learn something new. Would you honor me?
Perform dance to follow her lead 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14
Influence Badger hoping she like to dance...1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 2 = 16
not using entertain action, just using it as a way to get an in with her if possible. Of course if she doesn't like to dance than I am screwed already.
During the dance, Where did you learn that particular dance? It was different than what I have seen before. Where are you from again?

![]() |

If Badger is more cooperative, if not just ignore for now...
After the dance Variel will thank badger for the good time and thank Jiro for the music. Taking a breather, he will find Rain and the others and introduce them to Badger. This is something I should have done a while ago. Let those I am friends with meet my other friends and hopefully we will all at least be civil to one another. Also, it.may mean the difference to life and death on this ship. The more friends I have, the more eyes I have watching my back or Rain's or Valeros'. We need to start looking like a group if we want people to be helpful and friendly to us all.
In elven Hey all, I want you to meet Badger. Just talked to her the first time today and likes the sou d of the civilized tongue. Figured I would introduce you all to her so we can know each other a bit better.
