Bofus Beerswizzler |
ROUND 2
Bofus makes his way, practically invisibly, right alongside the Luchia. As the camouflage fades, he gives Mister Red a big ol' wink, then hops up on the bed next to the Erinyes.
Hang in there, Fran! We have the dragon queen on our side!
Um, no, miss. That would be *my* sword, *in* your side. Like this, see? and Bofus buries his rapier to the crossguard in her kidney.
Denied dex bonus on first attack

Cast Badger's Ferocity.

Erinyes |
Red quickly stabs Luchia, the erinye devil, with two quick slashes and in return she glares at him with hatred in her eyes.
"All over I'm afraid. I suppose it is not in your nature to abandon hate any more than it is in my nature to give up liberte!"
"I am never going to give up on hating you! And when I meet Tiamat, I am going to tell her what you've done. Just wait . . . until she hears . . . about this!"
With her last dying words, she falls to the bed bleeding out.
You are out of initiative.
Wyrmlord Ulwai Stormcaller |
"Well, you've just killed the legendary Luchina and Franchesca. You are all very lucky to be alive! These two Erinyes were gifts to Azarr Kul from Tiamat herself. They have served him faithfully for his entire campaign. I have no doubt that he is going to be in a foul mood to hear that he lost such loyal and coveted servants."
DM Harpwizard |
Go ahead and tell me your actions. Searching? Healing? Hiding? (Just kidding). Let me know when you are ready to proceed and how you plan on getting up into the inner sanctum. Remember, you were told that it is up that vertical shaft out in the outer sanctum. You will need some serious climbing tools or at the very least levitate or fly.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Bofus drinks his potion of CMW CMW: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 8) + 3 = 16
He then pulls out the Staff of Life and casts Heal on Red
Then, search the area and the fallen
perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
Tomkin the Doughty |
Tom discusses his plans with Bofus.
"You just pop up with my dog and anchor a rope. He can pop down and pick me up. The bigger people will have to find their own way up, but an anchored rope should help."
Or magic means get used like levitate.
DM Harpwizard |
Bofus, the two tapestries on either end of the room weigh about 100 pounds each, but you estimate to be worth 800 gp each. The bejeweled water pipe weighs 50 lbs and is worth 1400 gp. During a search while examining the bed uncovers a set of five bone keys, each painted with a different color (blue, red, green, black, and white), hidden in the bed's lower mattress. Each of the erinyes wielded a +1 Longsword and a +1 Flaming Composite Longbow (Str +5).
Bofus Beerswizzler |
I'll note the stuff in undivided treasure. I'll also note the heavy stuff...we can come back for it later!!
i don't know the blink dog mechanics, but will trust if you say Bofus can ride the dog up, then set ropes for the others--his climb skill is excellent and that should be a trivial task particularly with a climbing kit and a Rope of Climbing...
DM Harpwizard |
Bofus takes a swig of a potion of CMW and uses the staff of life on Red.
• Tirion (hp: 34/36)
• Bofus (hp: 51/53)
• Red (hp: 94/94)
• Mirrin (hp: 87/87)
• Tomkin (hp: 72/74)
So, I'm still a little unclear on how this next part goes. Depending on how it unfolds it could trigger initiative. However, this is what I am gathering.
• Bofus blinks up the shaft to the nearest available space which at this time is unknown or unseen. He looks around for a place to attach his rope of climbing. If he does not find one, he will begin hammeriing pitons into the ground so he can attach the rope. Then Red climbs up the knotted rope. What do Tomkin, Tirion and Mirrin do in the meanwhile?
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Actually, I think it might be safer for Bofus to scout solo. This is the perfect time for his last Spider Climb potion...
You all hang tight and let me scout ahead first
He drinks a potion and casually ascends the shaft, disappearing in the shadowy depths...
stealth: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (8) + 37 = 45
perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
DM Harpwizard |
After drinking your potion of spider climb, you begin scaling the walls. The cylindrical shafts extends for one hundred feet when you emerge into a brightly lit chamber.
Five brilliant geysers of crackling energy light this large room. Each of these sprays of liquescent light plume from the upturned maws of five draconic heads, themselves emerging on long necks from the edge of a low platform in the center of the room. The light gathers in the domed ceiling above, pooling in an upside down lake of glowing energy that ripples like water and periodically drips long, stringy strands of thick light down on the ground below to flash and sizzle away instantly in a blast of acrid smoke. Strange ghostly shapes seem to writhe and dance in the light pool above - twisted, nightmarish fiends and grinning dragons with great glowing eyes.
The room itself is roughly oval. The walls, inscribed from top to bottom with a scalelike pattern, arch upward gently, almost giving the chamber the appearance of being inside a gigantic dragon egg. The pool of light shimmers fifty feet above, and only twenty feel below that a five foot wide balcony encircles most of the room's perimeter. Five oval alcoves are arranged in the room's walls at this level, and looming in each one is a magnificent stone statue of one of the five chromatic dragon kinds.
Azarr Kul stands in all his glory in the center of the room atop the central pedestal. The half dragon hobgoblin is nearly seven feet tall, his body covered with brilliant blue scales and a magnificent horn jutting from his brow. He sports a beardlike growth of scales on his chin, and his eyes and teeth shimmer and dance with electricity.
In the four balconies above, four blue scaled creatures that resemble gothic gargoyles glare down. They each stand a head taller than humans, with a draconic muzzle, leathery wings and powerful claws. They have a long prehensile tail tipped with a yellow bone sting crackling with electricity.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
If Bofus can (quietly) command his Rope to secure itself on a rock somewhere, he'll do so. If there is nothing to secure it, he'll use a hammer, muffled with a rag (which he had during the Competition so long ago!) to secure a piton or two and anchor the rope that way
Then he'll climb down, and make a full report on the room and its occupants So, how do we handle this?. The thief is bouncing on the balls of his feet in eager anticipation
DM Harpwizard |
The circular shaft has a short wall of stone that rings around the entrance. Hiding behind the back side of that wall, Bofus carefully and quietly hammers a piton into the floor. Due to the infernal wailing of the energy and spirits coalescing into the portal above, the High Wyrmlord and his gargoyle shaped blue dragon devils up in the balcony do not appear to notice you. Your first task is accomplished: piton secure. You are able to descend and report out to your companions.
Please read Bofus' spoiler above.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Agreed!. Bofus pulls out a scroll of Darkvision and casts it on himself. He also takes out several potions, getting ready to imbibe them all as soon as everyone is ready...
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Is my Rope long enough for everyone to climb? Cuz I think we'll do that. (I can scale the wall and Tom can bamph)
DM Harpwizard |
The shaft is 100 feet long. Unfortunately, the Rope of Climbing is only 60 feet long (50 feet with climbing knots).
