Alright gentlemen, this is the area for out of character discussion in all it's form. Here I will post some houserules I'm going to implement, as well as put some observations about the game as things progress.
Anyway, as you guys get set up, sound off here and let me know where your at...also, feel free to talk here and intertwine character backgrounds.
House Rule
In the interest of getting people enough skills to make deep characters, I'm trying out something a little new. First off, all classes that have 2 skill points per level now have 4. Second, intelligence penalties don't apply to the number of skill points you get per level (if you have a skill based off int, it will still suffer the penalty when you add up what the total modifier is).

I have my basic info done. everything except my character description.

Some people have expressed an interest in firearms, and it seems the firearms in the SRD are different than the firearms in the campaign setting book. I'm going to go with what's in the setting book over the SRD, as that's what I generally access. I'm going to check the SRD when I have time and see if I can figure out why there is a difference, as well as see if I can find where the info would be available online. To be honest though, the setting book is only ten bucks in PDF format, which considering it's a forty dollar hard back that's a pretty good deal, so it might be worth picking up.

A few. As a note, this is going to go slowly. I'd like to see a little more progress than we are currently seeing...or rather, were seeing before the discussion board was up...but yeah, this is definately ment as a way for people with little time to get together and still game.
Still waiting to hear from (on here)...
Don...playing a viking type cleric duder.
Austin (the other one)...playing our social butterfly
Craig...who I have no idea about, as I've bearly heard anything from him...
Going to give it until friday to hear back from people, and then those who are here are here and we consider recruitment closed.

Dagger versus elephant...guess if you use the dagger to sharpen a stick, sneak up and get the stick under the elephant's foot while it's walking, and wait for it to starve to death...yeah, I could see it working.
HERE is the gunslinger play test document. If you want to use firearms, use the rules presented there. You don't have to be a gunslinger...it just has a preview of the rules as presented in the setting book. If you want to play as a gunslinger, that's cool, just be aware it's a playtest class...so when Ultimate Combat comes out you'll need to update the character (I'll own the book, so you don't have to buy it, though it would make things easier.).
Also, homework assignment...being that I'm going to have image files of the maps sent out to everyone (by using d20pro screen shots) I need some type of image for people. So if you would, dig up an online image for your character. Those of you who have avatars here, I'll just assume that's what you want used unless you say other wise. If you can't come up with something, or are to busy, I'll dig around and pick for people, but no complaining...will replace old images with new as people request.

Looking over characters, and here is what I need from people...
Kjartan - Need to see skills/feats, traits, equipment, background, appearance
Lodwin - With the emails it looks like your bases are covered.
Huntmaster - Pretty much everything ;)
Falconer - Thanks for making the changes. Need skills/feats, traits, equipment (would like a specific section of the profile dedicated to gear. Describing it in his description is cool, and adds a nice touch, but I still need a specified spot.) One question...there's reference to "monk of the four winds", is this something I'm not familiar in Pathfinder, or something of your own design? If it's the later that's cool, though I would like a note giving me an idea of where you're going with it.
Rava - Looks good, though I would like one of the traits to be selected from the Player's Guide. If nothing there appeals, that's fine, though I do need a write up for your connection to the professor.
I forget anyone? Other Austin should be checking in soonish/tonight.
Also, as people work on background, make sure to work in your connection to the professor. The adventure begins with you traveling to Ravengro for his funeral, after receiving a letter from his daughter, Kendra. Feel free to describe your arival in Ravengro once the in game topic is opened (this will likely be this coming week, hopefully early in the week, but no promises). You've got free reign in your description, with the caveats that you do not gain any experience from encounters described therein, nor do you gain equipment you did not pay for with starting gold from said description. Otherwise, feel free to go to town here.

Falconer...up at the very top of the page you should see a horizontal row of links after the "Welcome John Doe"...click on "My Account". From there you should see an area saying "message board aliases" with a list of your aliases (this is where you go to create new ones too). Find the one you want to edit, and click the edit link. Now, it keeps telling me on my newer aliases that you can only change your avatar up until you've posted 10 times with an alias...but when I click on one of my aliases with 60 something posts, it still gives me the option...so I don't know what the deal is with that, but it might be worth knowing. I know you can only delete an alias before posting so many times...but I think that's like one post.
Lyzbeth...No worries. Just wanted to get everyone here and talking by friday. Not expecting to play any earlier than monday, though likely it won't be that early anyway.
Kjartan...killer. No huge hurry.

Inquisitrix Rava |

The online SRD doesn't specify where the traits are from (that I saw anyway). But I picked one because this is the remake of the char I used in your tabletop game last year. The other trait my character had was campaign specific, so I replaced it with the regional trait by default. If you've got a list of recommendations I'm willing to look them over.

The Carrion Crown player's guide linked in the original emails sent out had a list of the campaign traits.
short version:
Chance Savior: You gain a +2 trait bonus on Initiative checks.
Subject of Study: Choose a non-humanoid creature type (and subtype if outsider). You gain a +1 bonus on damage rolls against creatures of this type. See the ranger favored enemy suggestions for a list of creature types most likely to appear in this campaign.
Inspired by Greatness: Choose one spell you can cast. From now on, you always cast this spell at +1 caster level.
On the Payroll: an additional 150 gp in starting wealth.
Teacher’s Pet: You gain a +2 trait bonus to one Knowledge skill of your choosing and consider it a class skill.

Savola |

Hey! This would be Trevor, and this is my character that I would like to use with your campaign. Its all there and I don't think I'm missing anything but let me know if I need to change anything. I am looking forward to playing again haha. Let's just hope that my dice rolls here will be slightly better than when I physically roll them...

Fraust |

Things look good. Only thing I'm really wondering about is the gold, you spent three thousand? I didn't set down and price everything in your equpiment list, but if I were to wager a guess, I'd say you spent maybe one thousand...unless I'm missing something.
Here is a posting template of how things will look during the game. This is to show you what information you should expect to see and where to find it. Most of the information is going to be in spoiler tags. The tags below are going to be fairly standard, and everyone is expected to open them and read what’s there. From time to time you will see a spoiler tag with one of the character’s names as the label. I’m not overly concerned with people checking out other people’s spoiler tag, as I have no real way to police it, just know that your character is expected to not know what is in someone else’s tag…so if I tell Bob the Fighter in a spoiler tag that he sees a crystal vase in the cupboard, and Ted the Thief’s next post involves taking the vase…I’ll slap Ted’s player next time I see him, and ignore his posts actions.
This area will often have information about the history of the location being described. It may or may not be pertinent to the encounter, and it may or may not be something your character actually knows, but it would be something easily discovered/common knowledge, so you can decide what of it your character knows. Don’t sweat explaining every time you see a background spoiler how your character came across it, but from time to time feel free to use it to flavor your posts. Also, I'm not going to put any game information here, so if I describe someone as a huge warrior, I'm not talking about an npc classed creature one size category larger than large.
This will be descriptive text of the physical location you find yourself in. Pretty straight forward. This will also be where environmental game effects such as weather will be written out.
This is where you’ll find out what creatures you perceive in the encounter.
During combat things will look a little different, I'll try to get a template of that written up here shortly.
Next I'll try to get a format I'd like you guys to use when you post at the in character topic. These aren't hard and fast rules, more suggestions to keep everything clear and easy to read.

Fraust |

How I would like you to structure your posts is actually pretty standard as far as PbPs here go. When your character says something, put it in quotation marks and bold it. If you put your character's thoughts put that in italics. If your saying something comepletely out of character use the out of character codes.
During combat feel free to describe things in normal type, but I'd really appreciate game mechanics and action description in out of character speak. I'll throw up an example a little lower. I'm not so wooried about sticking to this right now, but as the game progresses and characters are getting multiple attacks and using swift actions and all that things get pretty convoluted.
Actually, I think what I'll do is take two of my characters on the boards and post a combat turn with each, to demonstrate a lower level post and a higher level post...hopefully this makes some semblance of sense...

Nym Vallidorn |

Round 1 Actions
Nym eyes the haughty half breed up, thuroughly unimpressed by her fopish hat. "Tis far below me to strike a woman without cause, though I doubt anyone who'd seen you wearing that hat with those shoes would fault me."
Nym isn't normally this metro, mostly just looking for an excuse to poke fun at the half elf
Spending one point of Arcane Pool to grant rapier +1 enhancement bonus
Attacking Rava
Rapier 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage 1d6 ⇒ 3

Ridley Blix |

Round 1 actions
Watching the two cat-fight was entertaining, but Ridley was not one to meerly observe. With a flourish of her gloved hand the small greenish sphere that had been flowing from her palm up her fingers to be cradled on the back of her hand, and then sent back over to her palm, was joined by two more identical orbs, the trio spinning in her upraised palm now. With another flourish she lobs one sphere at each of the two combatants, and hurles the third at Lyzbeth, as the bard hasn't chosen an image to represent her character yet...
Throwing three bombs as a full attack action (fast bombs, rapid shot)
Bomb 1, at Nym
Touch Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Breakdown: +6BAB+5Dex-2RapidShot-2range
Direct Hit: 4d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 3) + 6 = 17
Splash Damage: 10 to all within 5' of Nym, Reflex DC: 18 for half
Fort Save DC: 18 for Nym and all within 10' of Nym or Nauseated for 1 round (Stink Bomb)
Bomb 2, at Rava
Touch Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Breakdown: +6BAB+5Dex-2RapidShot-2range
Direct Hit: 4d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2, 5, 5) + 6 = 19
Splash Damage: 10 to all within 5' of Rava, Reflex DC: 18 for half
Fort Save DC: 18 for Rava and all within 10' of Rava or Nauseated for 1 round (Stink Bomb)
Bomb 3, at Lyzbeth
Touch Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Breakdown: +1BAB+5Dex-2RapidShot-2range
Direct Hit: 4d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 3) + 6 = 17
Splash Damage: 10 to all within 5' of Lyzbeth, Reflex DC: 18 for half
Fort Save DC: 18 for Lyzbeth and all within 10' of Lyzbeth or Nauseated for 1 round (Stink Bomb)

So yeah, the second post, from Ridley, too about 15 minutes (got a quick phone call while I was typing), so higher level characters (especially complicated ones with lots of effects) can get a little indepth, but I think by starting at low levels and slowly getting to that point people will get pretty used to this style game.
One thing I highly Highly HIGHLY recomend, is when you're ready to post select and copy your post before hitting submit. The Paizo boards are notorious for eating posts, especially when it's taken you a long time to write them up. I'm in the habbit of whenever I post here, I hit Crtl+a and Crtl+c before I hit submit every single time I post.
Also...if you hit preview before you submit your post, it will show you the results of your die rolls...so you can, if you're so inclined, to write out your actions, and hit preview, and then add in some extra description based on the results. I normally reserve this for attack/skill rolls where I rolled REALLY bad, and KNOW I missed, or if I get a critical threat, I'll go in and add the confirmation roll on a line down.

Lodwinn |

I fixed my HP and added 2 hit points for having gained two levels in my favored class so now I believe I should have 19 HP if I'm not mistaken.
It looks like you used the original 150GP starting money. Since we were upgraded to 3rd level we were also upgraded to 3k gold, so you've got a bit more to work with.

Fraust |

It happens. If you check out your post after you submit it you can edit them, though I think you only have an hour or so (maybe less) before you can't edit them anymore.
Going to try and get the campaign started tonight, possibly very late tonight. I'll post the link here after I open the in game thread...
Also, almost forgot, here's the link to the player's guide I promised people...LINKY LINKY

Kjartan |

For people looking to get the traits in online format...after searching for about a half hour, I've come to the assumption that the link is just inherently in your "my downloads" thingy at the top of the page.
I'm going to have to let this filter through the brain matter for a bit. I read through them, but nothing jumped out at me as being particular applicable. As always, I'm open to suggestions.

Zaroff |

Unfortunately I haven't been receiving any of your emails with the advice, but I have been told by Trevor that the knowledge skill is a good thing in this campaign and have redone my skills accordingly. I don't understand why my email doesnt work with you, but I have been recieving your messages on facebook.

Fraust |

Kjartan...I'm looking into some stuff to give you advice on a campaign trait, I'll post it up when I respond to your post in the game thread. In short, you and the professor are going to have had several late night discussions on the nature of some of the pirates you encountered.
Savola...a mighty fine investment that will be.
Zaroff...I'll try and get the two emails up here in spoilers some time this week, that way we have them easily accessed.

Based on your addition to my backstory, the campaign trait Subject of Study with +1 vs aberrations looks appropriate, and the standard trait Scholar of the Great Beyond +1 k of history and K of planes. Following my initial encounter and my discussions with the Professor, I've spent a fair bit of research time trying to find out what the thing on the ship was what god it was associated with.

k...make me a knowledge religion check (you can take 10 if you want...if you're not sure what that means, it's basically a way to count your "average" score as a quick and easy way to handle some skill checks...in other words, you can declare you "take 10" and add up the skill check as if you had rolled a 10 on the dice)

I rolled a 15+9=24 here on my desk or
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22The computer version, both look pretty good.

Falconer Icebane |

It'll always be the computer roll. Not that I don't trust people, it's just easier if everyone rolls the same dice so to speak.
I'll get what you've learned about the cult over your years of investigation up in a bit.
on this line of thought...how do we do computer rolls?

Under the text area where you type your replies it says "BBCode tags you can use:" with a button. Click to show it and you get a list of things you can do. For a dice roll its "dice" (in brackets[], not quotes), the type of die your rolling, 1d20+any modifiers then /dice in brackets []. When you preview your post it'll show you what you rolled.
