Yeah, admittedly, Dunc really does fit the role of a bard/5th party member. I just wanted to get in there and hopefully absorb some blows since Fizzy had taken a beating. Perhaps I was a little to zealous.

Sorry team mates, I can't help too much with this puzzle, I've GM'd this scenario. It was a few years ago at this point but still I want it to be fair for everyone!

![]() |

I hate puzzles in PBP because they bring things to a crawl.
I'm going to give you guys a hint in the interest of keeping things moving: You need to blow the mouthpiece to get things started.
Now, now - that wasn't TOOO bad. Once we blew the mouthpiece it only took 20 minutes or so (real time) to solve the puzzle :)

Nah! A barbarian has to do what a barbarian does. The thing is that with that encounter the hoard of mooks got lots of shots with low hit probability that scored lots of damage. A lot of those secondary shots were at like +8 and were still connecting half the time and doing 20 damage a pop. Perhaps if you had crunched some numbers you *might* have done things differently after seeing what happened to Fizz, but you are right in that Fizz was in a bad way and you could hardly hang back and let him suck it up, barbarian or not. This was a bad situation waiting to happen for characters with low AC in in the front line. Your character is fine and your actions were fine too, but the situation was not well suited for you. Give it an encounter or two and I'm sure you will be kicking butt.

![]() |

Yea, but that situation was MADE for a fireball. You still got lots of nice spells left; they are just better suited for small groups of bigger enemies. And I'm betting the remaining encounters will be different and have smaller groups.

Being forced to repeat myself really gets on my nerves, especially in a text medium where you can freely go back and reread what was posted.
If you are curious, the medusas are using the option to actively gaze at a target to force them to roll twice. That's why Marta had to roll three times (two passive gazes and one active gaze).
A creature with a gaze attack can actively gaze as an attack action by choosing a target within range. That opponent must attempt a saving throw but can try to avoid this as described above. Thus, it is possible for an opponent to save against a creature’s gaze twice during the same round, once before the opponent’s action and once during the creature’s turn.

Note that I DID make the three fort saves, as requested, taking Lord Percy's advice to just do what the GM says without asking, right before the GM post about not making the fort saves. But if Marta is stone, that's OK with me. I tried. I really tried to make sure I did not screw up.

DM Feral |

My post was very clear.
Another throws back her hood revealing that she is also a medusa! She glares hard at Marta with her petrifying gaze.
Marta is up. You need to make three DC 16 fortitude saves vs petrifying gaze. ROLL THEM IN YOUR FIRST POST PLEASE.
Making the fort saves six posts later doesn't matter. Posting multiple times fudges the dice rolls. You need to complete the rolls I request from you and complete your actions in the same post or I will consider you to be delay.
I will not repeat myself again. If you fail to follow my directions I will just roll for you again.

Hence why it becomes important to make sure we try keep on point with reading and following the GM request, because once it turns into a back and forth things get missed - we all love friendly banter, but only once the rolls have all been made.
Myself, I check the thread before bed, and then 6 hours later when I get up there's always a lot to read, so I have made it a point to read carefully - the joys of being in a very different time zone.
Nice pick up on the cheeky use of Gaze attacks too, haven't seen a GM employ them as an active tool before :) nice to have a refreshing change!

Huh? I did not realize that multiple posts change the die rolls. I thought the same roll was held until your next post. That the worst you could do is change the order of your rolls in order to get your best roll in the best spot.
If you need clarification can you ask in the discussion thread without fudging dice rolls? I am not trying to be difficult or cheat. I hate cheating and would rather have my character die, not that you would know that. But I really did not know whether the saves were tied to my attacks or not and sure as heck did not want any hint of cheating to happen - so I asked to make sure I did it right. I thought that it was the "one fort save at the start of every turn" that you were modifying to three fort saves at the start of my turn and it confused me. Which is why I did not roll a fort save at the start of my turn. I thought that the three fort saves were the same thing. It ironic that my attempts to make everything above-board only served to make you think I was attempting to cheat.

I guess Marta won't be saying much :)
Kick some Mantis butt for me.

Wait, i realise that before going back Lamare would have cast shield other to Percy. (I was waiting for the identification. That doesn't change that Lamare is gonna retreat using his trait of careful fighter.)

...or he could heal people or kill some bad guys instead?

Wait, why is Lamare retreating? We totally got this!! Heal, buff or blast, just don't run ;)

![]() |

In a way... It's Lamare. Coward at heart. ( But if there no danger he could use a channel even if this is Weak.)

DM Feral |

We're just about done with the scenario. If you haven't done so already please make your day job roll, post your PFS number, and post or PM me your email address so I know where to send your chronicle.
We can assume you'll get that stone salve identified eventually.
MARTA, IN YOUR NEXT GAMEPLAY POST ROLL A FORTITUDE SAVE AND NOTHING ELSE.

Thanks DM Feral, this game was a lot of fun, I very much enjoyed it! Thanks for showing mercy and not killing me there!
