Kardas Rasalas |

Got my J&J vaxx shot on Sunday and it knocked me flat on my ass.
The swordmage scratches his forehead as he ponders the questions 'where to next?'. They got what they came for and lingering within Zhent territory isn't exactly his idea of time well spent. "They wanted a blasted tome from Delenn in return for her brother. Could it be that they're playing us? Sure, the painting is valuable, but it comes nowhere close to the price they were asking for before. I'm not saying this isn't the real Lenoir, but ..." and for a moment, Kardas gives in to the insanity of his own words. He eyes the elf up and down, wondering if the elf really isn't one of those nasty doppelgangers that infest and haunt the cautionary tales moms tell their young children.
"But none of us have ever seen him before. That, and or they might've worked magic on him. Gods, I shouldn't have gone down this path for it only leads to madness."

Lenoir |

I can relate, had an Astra zenica shot a couple of months ago and the next 24h was fever city. Went away the next day fortunately.
"I am Lenoir!" cried the elf hotly, "Or at least I'm pretty sure I am... I mean what if you carry on thinking you are yourself but really you are not?! Why you wouldn't know if you are coming or going or know if anyone else is who they say they are. I mean everyone says you freed me and that is wonderful. But what if you aren't who you think you are and I've traded one gaoler for another? That reminds me, I know a song about that. Would you like to hear it?"

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Ser Armithia places a dagger in Lenoir's hands.
Go that way til the count of 500. Then count another 500. The come back. Practice scouting for us.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
The knight smiles.

Lenoir |

Lenoir eyes the dagger dubiously but accepts it. He strides away stops and then comes back with surprising quickness.

Ishta Khosiv |

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Ishta smiles at Ser's joke and Lenoir's counter. As long as the guy doesn't sing, he could be a fun sidekick for the Watchers.
"Well, we've got things to do, and not here precisely" Ishta says adressing more serious matters. "Delenn would like to see her brother, we've got a 'something' to find, wink, wink, and Azarra's probably got one of her secret meetings with important-people-no-one-else-knows. I suggest we go back to Phlan."
She snaps a finger, remembering something. "Oh! I still have another scroll for the chariot. Do you want me to use it, or would you rather keep it so I can put it in my spellbook?"
As if it was something totally normal, Ishta casts a spell to detect magic auras on Lenoir. "Say 'thirty-three'."

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Save it. Copy it. We can enjoy the road back for a change.

Lenoir |

A subdued Lenoir added, "Honestly a proper hike would be welcome. It's been quite some time since I was last free to stride more than the length of the exercise yard."
The day was nice so the watchers of dawn started the long walk back towards Phlan, it was a good fifty plus miles so it would take a few days. The grass rustled in the wind and its swaying was reminiscent of waves in the sea. The actual moon sea was to your right, lapping gently at the shore. The beach was mostly shingle although you knew further on at the evening before's campsite it was glorious white sand.
Looking back on your experience with the infamous Zhentarim nothing matched your expectations. Surprisingly they could be good hosts when it suited them although you had no doubt things would have gone very differently if Ripley's advisors had read the extra letter. One solid takeaway was as a fighting force they seemed formidable and Phlan's economy was in no position to finance a war against them, perhaps there was in deed wisdom in an arms length trade agreement.
Thoughts turned to Phlan and what you would have to do there, the letter surely would be convincing evidence of malfeasance. And then there was the things Ripley told you, that Jandark was an enchanter who wore people like hats. What of Cardona junior? Was he a willing partner in all this, or was he like an expendable pawn? Either way Jandark had to be stopped. Ripley claimed the original sewer network had a secret entrance, perhaps Friar Jenkins could help you find it?
The miles disappeared beneath your feet and by late afternoon you reached the camping spot which seemed to be deserted, the light was still good so you could push on if you chose to.

DM Fang Dragon |

Ishta are you going to copy the scroll into your spell book?

Ishta Khosiv |

Ishta realises they're near the ambush site, which means they should also find the campsite nearby.
"Shall we male an effort and reach it? I think that would be a sound idea."
Yes, as soon as we have time enough Ishta will copy it into her book.

DM Fang Dragon |

The beach camping spot was a good few hours further on but summer days were long and besides it was a considerably better camping spot. So The Watchers of Dawn pushed on long into the evening. Finally you arrived and amid the half light the pavilion tent was erected. Again you had the place to itself and the only footsteps in the sand were one you left from last time.
There should be time enough for Ishta to attempt to learn and transcribe the spell if you wish. That said you probably shouldn't tarry too long, who knows what Jandark is getting up to?

Perception vs 20: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
The idea of a body of water being so vast that it takes days, if not weeks, to cross is alien to Kardas. Yes, he had been on a boat before, and yes, it had been an experience, but nothing about it feels right. Still, the Moonsea manages to instill in him a sense of calm, his breathing falling in line with the gentle waters probing at the shore. Is it a sign that the spirits that dwell within this enormous sea are slumbering, asleep, waiting for the spirit-talkers of men to reach out to them once again? How long ago must it have been since that happened? The thought depresses the Raumathar. To dispel it, he picks up a stone and throws it into the water with little finesse.
"It's a shame that violence is so commonplace in this region and if there's something worth fighting for, you know someone is coming to fight you for it. The Moonsea is quite beautiful in its own way, rugged and fierce at first glance, yet gentle and inviting once you've endured the worst it can throw at you. Heh, I'd almost forget about the toe-numbing winters this place puts you through and the Zhentarim."

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

That is the purpose of this walk about, my friend, Kardas. To recharge ourselves for the problem to greet our return.
The gold elf does indeed enjoy the scenery, peacefulness, and quietness of this time before the storm.....

DM Fang Dragon |

@Ishta assume you had time to try and copy the spell.
The evening and the next day pass without incident, and as the miles go by the Watchers of Dawn fall find themselves relaxing for the first time in months. Too bad this quiet reflective spell wasn't to last.

Lenoir |

Lenoir was quiet and withdrawn although he seemed to have boundless energy and started helping out with camp chores without having to be asked. His initial joy at being released had lapsed into melancholy.

Ishta interrupts her speech when Ser Armithia points out the kobolds.
"Let's help them, right?"
How far away? Ishta might use a Fireball on the kobolds...

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Ser Armithia checks his helmet.
The sun must be glinting off it. They looked closer.
He puts the bow away.

DM Fang Dragon |

If you want to intervene you'll need to use a travel spell to catch up and alter course.

Kardas Rasalas |

"I take it you have no magicks prepared to throw your voice? And tell the kobolds to piss or be eradicated?" Kardas sighs, because he knows what's what. There will be violence.
Kobolds *on* wolves? I say we at the very look go have a look.

DM Fang Dragon |

So what are you going to do? Also Ishta did you try to copy the scroll? (You had ample time)

Kardas Rasalas |

Waiting for Ishta to see if we got any magical means right now to pursue and or catch up with the combatants. Kardas has nothing to do so.

Ishta Khosiv |

Sure! It's a DC 19 Spellcraft check, which I can make automatically, so I had the spell already copied.
"Do you want me to conjure the Watcher's Wagon?" Okay, here we go!"
Ishta takes some seconds to give up the knowledge of one of her magics and put the chariot's spell instead into her mind, then makes it appear.
"All aboard!"
The Watcher's Wagon sounded too funny a name to not mention here :P

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Ser Armithia smiles at Ishta's jest. He climbs aboard the Watcher Wagon.
Let's go save some bodies.

DM Fang Dragon |

Ishta intones the works of a powerful spell and with a sudden thunderclap the Watcher Wagon appears from a glowing rent in the air and comes to a screeching halt in front of her. You all climb on and the one last one is bearely aboard before Ishta urges the spectral horses into motion and they gallop towards the chase!
The miles disappear beneath the enchanted wagon and you anxiously watch as the kobold warg riders slowly get closer and closer to the men. Suddenly you're close enough to jump out and intervene!

Kardas Rasalas |

Uncertain about the wisdom of running in front of a mob of mounted kobolds, Kardas first weaves a spell of protection before moving forward to give Armithia support. He'll need it.
It's halfway through that Kardas realizes that by moving forward the kobolds will have a free path to Ishta and so he stops. Perhaps Armithia had been wise.

Kardas wisely casts a defensive spell and suddenly there where five Rashmiri warriors! Fighting for their lives the kobolds levelled their lances and charged! Two thundered towards Kardas, the first lance shattered one image, another however struck true ripping a large chunk out of his left side. Another charged one of the retreating tribesmen but missed. Another charged Ishta who had caused so much pain, his lance ripping through her left shoulder! Yet another charged Ser Armithia but the knight simply stepped aside. The final one charged Azarra leaving her with a deep cut along her right side!

Ishta, my dear, they are a bit more amendable to your spells now.

Ishta Khosiv |

Ishta instantly regrets having opened with a Fireball instead of trying to get some protection. She hopes, however, that the softening down helps her teammates deal with the kobolds faster.
Meanwhile, she thinks, she should try to hold them down a bit, so she moves away from her actual attacker, risking another hit, in order to invoke her arcane powers again.
Regular love, AoO triggering.
All kobolds and worgs, Will Save DC 22 or slowed.

DM Fang Dragon |

I made a mistake with the positioning of the Kobolds. Lances are reach weapons so I've repositioned them all 5' to the west. I also forgot to add +2 to their hit rolls but we can hand wave that.
@Ishta did you want to try a concentration check or a 5' step maybe? If you stand there and cast and their AOO hits you may loose the spell (concentration check) and eat a full attack on top.

Ishta Khosiv |

Sorry, I meant move, not love xD But if they're 5 ft away, then a 5-ft-step will do.

Kardas Rasalas
Kobold riders
Azarra, Ishta Khosiv, Ser Armithia-Seendren and Kardas Rasalas are up.

Azarra |

I don't see the blue enemy that hit me on the map, so not sure how to position myself. Can you add it in? Or, is it blue dash? I thought that was a human. (No, can't be. I see a "blue dash versus blue" attack earlier in the page.)

Azarra |

Ah, I see the death post. Sorry for the confusion.
Azarra, really hurt, starts singing to bolster her own courage, and takes another shot at White.
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Damage: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2) + 1 = 9
but she's in a lot of pain and is finding it hard to focus. She keeps singing, trying to endure.

Kardas Rasalas |

Knowing that it is now or never, Kardas taps into a newfound well of arcane prowess to grant himself a speed beyond that of normal mortals.
Swift action: self haste using his arcana for 3 rounds
Full-round action: spell combat vs yellow, remaining attacks vs red (power attack, shocking grasp)
Concentration check vs DC 17: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Attack 1: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
Damage 1: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
Attack 2: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
Damage 2: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (5) + 19 = 24
Attack 3: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28
Damage 3: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25
Attack 4: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage 4: 1d8 + 19 ⇒ (6) + 19 = 25
Shocking Grasp: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 5, 3) = 18

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Ser Armithia takes a look around. He decides to finish White before moving on.
Melee +1 bastard sword, Vital Strike: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 162d10 + 14 ⇒ (5, 1) + 14 = 20
Unfortunately, the Knight forgot to actually look back at his target!

Ishta Khosiv |

Ishta looks for cover behind the Wagon, and launches some minute projectiles that fly true to her enemies.
Magic Missile vs Yellow, Red or Green (whoever is still alive after Kardas): 5d4 + 10 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 3, 4) + 10 = 26

DM Fang Dragon |

Hurting, Azarra's shot goes wide.
Ishta you were a ahead of Kardas in initiative. I'm not clear if you're hoping to delay till after Kardas, it sounds like you are...
With the words of a spell on her lips, Ishta waited to see what Kardas would do.
Ser Armithia swung his sword at one of the Kobolds but ducked the blade with a strangled yelp.
Meanwhile Kardas goes berserk, hacking the Kobolds in front of him again and again, sending ribbons of blood and body parts flying! First his sword slices through the neck of the kobold in front and on the back swing he lops off a great slice of the kobold to his left's skull, before cutting both arms off the kobold to the right. To finish off the maimed creature he summoned eldritch lightnings and plunged his crackling blade into it's heart before ripping down and disembowelling it!
There was a moments shock at the red ruin in front of the now very red sword mage which was punctured by the staccato words of Ishta's spell. A swarm of tiny missiles buzzed from her outstretched hand and slammed into one of the kobolds assailing Ser Armithia, exploding its head like an overripe grape.
The last remaining Kobold who was hideously burned screamed his defiance and lunged at Azarra once more, his lance piercing her belly.
White vs Azarra: 1d20 + 12 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 12 - 1 - 2 = 23Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 <--- HIT
BTW I notice on your stat line it says 8 hp. I think you are on 21 HP based on taking 48 damage this combat. I assume you where fully healed before visiting the Zhents.
The tribes men continued shooting at the last remaining Kobold, killing it and it's mount.
Red Dash vs White: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 <--- MISS
Red Dash vs White: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 <--- HIT
Green Dash vs White: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 <--- HIT
Green Dash vs White: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 <--- HIT
Blue Dash vs White: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 <--- HIT
Blue Dash vs White: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 <--- HIT
Any remaining wolf mounts are no threat to you so COMBAT OVER.

DM Fang Dragon |

Clearly very relieved one of the Tribesmen speaks up, "Well met strangers I am Anjo of Clan Bearhawk, I owe you my life, I may yet owe you the life of my mate and my child. Beset on all sides, our headman Paulando bid us rid out looking for salvation, perhaps we have found it... Please if you would, follow us and speak with Paulando - he will pay handsomely for your aid."

Ser Armithia-Seendren |

Ser Armithia looks at his fellow Watchers.
Definitely; vacation over.
He nods to the rider.
Lead on.

Azarra |

Sorry I got the damage wrong. I think I was looking at the attack roll rather than the damage roll or something, but went back through and recounted and corrected.
Azarra also nods and follows.
