When I chose a faction, the Silver Crusade seemed most logical for a Sarenrae worshiper and, over time, I increasingly played her as an almost-paladin*. In addition to playing her in PFS, I brought her in as a replacement character at the end of the 4th installment of Shattered Star.
I've enjoyed playing Lubella so much that I'd like to play her in an adventure path from the beginning (or almost the beginning).
Favorite moments:
-Negotiating with Wargs (successfully).
-Fighting 1 on 1 with the legendary dragon Cadrilkasta, whose CR was 5 above her level. (After weathering two rounds of full attacks, she was badly wounded and needed to pull back and heal!) Yes, a 3 ft tall, 30 lb halfling CAN take on a gargantuan dragon!
*Please note that Lubella bears no resemblance to a "Lawful Stupid" paladin (and she's not even lawful). She is highly altruistic, but has no problem ignoring unjust laws, or breaking the law in service of the greater good. She leads by example and is not a "my way or the highway" type. She will associate with evil creatures if the greater good is being served, or if she thinks they could be redeemed.

do you need 2 characters now?
Yes, one has to be a martial though.
Work limits my response.
Does Sunset at lest met the parameters of what might be acceptable?
No, unfortunately. Race is Aasimar which is not core. Character is lvl 1 instead of 2.
I am afraid I will have to withdraw my submission. I have been fortunate enough to have recently been selected for a wealth of PBPs, and I think I have hit my limit. Best of luck to those remaking, however!
Thanks for the heads up, good luck with your other games.

The crunch isn't done yet but I'm working on a straight up Fighter, though she'll make a lot of use of both the Weapon Master's and the Armor Master's Handbook. I ditched the Darechaser as I simply couldn't get it to work in a way that I was happy with.
From a mechanics point of view the character will be a master of the Heavy Blade weapon group, using different weapons for different situations. She'll start out with a focus on a single type though, probably the Estoc. I aim to make her a mobile and versatile melee character.
Her name will be Helena Henderthane.
She moved to Kintargo in hopes escaping the Chelish politics and most of the influnce of the House of Thrune. Her engagement was more about finding a life away from the scheming and infernal influence than it was about love.As such she was not happy with Barzillai's arrival.
She convinced her fiancé that it would be best for both of them to move to Korvosa. While he initially agreed he was then persuaded by his father not to go and instead lend his support to the House of Thrune. When he tol Helena she broke of the engagement, packed up and claimed she'd leave for he family's estate again.
She didn't leave Kintargo though. In the last year she had grown attached to the city and it felt like her only home. Back with her family she'd only find that which she feared was coming here. There was only one conclusion: if she wanted to live her life without the infernal shadow looming overhead she'd have to fight for it.

Felicia LaFou |

I would like to submit Felicia here. She's a Falcata Swashbuckler, and for this campaign she would be fully human. Born and orphaned in another Chelish fishing town, she stowed away on a boat several years ago and ran away to Kintargo. She came to love the town and spent a lot of time around the devil's nursery.
The final straw though, her reason for disliking Thrune, is that she was just fined for having her mint tea. Do not, EVER, tell her she can't have her mint tea.
I'll have to fix her scores to reflect no more catfolk DNA, but she should translate well enough. She'll be a frontliner that pumps out reliable damage if you can keep her alive!
Full disclosure: I am GMing this AP in meatspace, but would like to see it from the other end. If you really like surprised players I may not be right for you, however I am good at separating meta knowledge.

Hey, submitting Isabel here. She's built mostly as a spellcaster - so replacing the party bard, but she can offer decent damage with her hand xbow, particularly once painful stare really cranks up. She's VERY good at face and out of combat stuff and hopefully offers enough versitility in combat to be useful.
Hope you approve. :)

I thought I'd try write up a 10 minute background for Lubella, to supplement the backstory already submitted. This is my first time writing something up in this format. Some of it has already appeared in the Personality section.
1. Lubella is outgoing and friendly, but is initially guarded about confiding in others.
2. She is highly altruistic; she will devote considerable energy to helping people she doesn't know. Wealth is unimportant for it's own sake - it only matters as a mean to helping others.
3. She will associate with evil creatures if the greater good is served, or if she feels that they could be redeemed.
4. Violence is a last resort; diplomacy is her preferred option.
5. She aspires to live by the Paladin Code of Sarenrae, although she sometimes falls short. She is filled with doubts that she doesn't live up to the very high standards of behavior that she sets for herself.
6. She feels responsible for the welfare of people around her. She feels guilty that she hasn't done enough for them.
7. She fears that when confronted by a fiend such as a devil or demon, she will freeze or make the wrong decision, leading to the death of a companion.
8. She has matured since her days of youthful indiscretions and is trying to be more responsible. She still likes her wine and can get a bit rowdy when she has over-indulged.
9. Although she was initiated into the Cult of the Dawnflower, Lubella identifies more with the Avistan branch of the church of Sarenrae. She regards the Cult of the Dawnflower as overly militaristic, and not focused enough on compassion and redemption.
Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.
1. Send money to her mother in Katapesh to enable her to live comfortably. (character goal)
2. Convince an evil doer to turn away from their destructive path and towards the light of Sarenrae. (character goal)
3. Defeat a devil in single combat (player goal)
Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet.
1. Lubella experimented with Pesh when she was younger. She didn't become seriously addicted, but it still wasn't easy to quit. She saw the effects on people who didn't stop soon enough and has an enmity towards drug dealers.
2. Carlotta Jakupi, the High Priestess of the Temple of Saranrae in Korvasa (see people below), doesn't expect Lubella to return from her mission.
Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
1. Carlotta Jakupi: High Priestess of the Temple of Saranrae in Korvasa. She regards Lubella as a bad influence: irresponsible and too fond of partying. She admits Lubella is talented, but considers that talent wasted. (GM: As far as I know, the leader of the temple in Korvosa is not detailed in the any official material. Feel free to alter the details as you see fit.)
2. Petros Lorrimor. Soon after her arrival, on a dare, Lubella broke into the Jeggare Library at the University of Korvaso one night with a couple of new friends. They were discovered by a academic working late, who turned out to be none other than the renowned scholar, Petros Lorrimor. Given her record, Lubella feared she would be suspended at the temple, or worse. Luckily, Professor Lorrimor took a liking to her, and did not report the intrusion, on the condition that he could call on her for a favor in the future.
3. Sandor Ricci: human dockworker in Korvosa. Lubella befriended him soon after she arrived in Korvosa. Sondor was one of the people involved with Lubella in the break in of the Jeggare Library.
Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor.
1. Lubella remembers riding on her father's shoulders at a fair when she was four. She felt safe and happy.
2. She remembers her father lying in bed, face pale and gasping for breath, his body ravaged by plague. She felt frightened and helpless, and he died a short time later. She was 14 years old.
3. She speaks in a formal manner with strangers, or when she is nervous.

Helena's crunch is done. I got her a falcon mostly as a flavor thing but it could double as a messenger bird.
I might also add that while outside Helena always wears a closed helmet with her armor. According to those that know her she no longer lives in Kintargo and she'd prefer them to think that as long as possible.

After much deliberation...
Talon Bishop & Morricone Aulamaxa
Have been chosen to join the game. I had to consider a lot of variables and there were so many good characters involved choosing has not been easy at all.
Thanks everyone for partecipating and submitting these great characters, I'm sorry I could not find space for more of you. If I get to start another AP PbP game you'll surely be considered first.

![]() |

And one more!
I don't really like to have a party with no front liners and besides as I said there were very good characters presented so I'd like to ask
Oren Mitabu
to also join the discussion thread! I'll have to change the CR for encounters a bit and I hope the game won't slow down too much but I'm willing to take these risks.

I can see that; I tend to have bad experiences with Chaotic Neutral characters. (Usually it's "I just do whatever I want, even if it's clearly not Chaotic, because Chaotic Neutral means I can do anything!") I haven't played with enough drow characters to have formed any sort of overall opinion on them vis-a-vis some kind of common culture of play (there's one drow in one game that I run on the boards, and... I think that's about it).

Reopening recruitment for 1 player. We are in need of a lvl 5 character (use standard gold for lvl 5 characters at creation), better if equipped with status removal options and capable of decent buffing.
The game is currently in the middle of book 2, the party includes a witch, a spiritualist, a vigilante, a brawler and a druid.

Renvil Ratarion |

Renvil is a character that I created for a Hell's Rebels recruitment many years ago. He seems to fit the profile of a party face that you're looking for. I'd like to submit him for consideration.
I'd be happy to level him up to 5 with a focus on the status removal and buffing capabilities that you're seeking.

Sedoriku |

I'd love to make an Intrigue Oracle with the Song-Bound curse for this, if you'll have me. She'd be an aspirant opera singer pissed by the shut down of the Kintargo Opera house!
Edit: After looking over things again, a Whimsy mystery might work better. Also, quick question, are the Hell's Rebels campaign traits available? The Diva-in-Training trait would fit her very well.
Otherwise, I'd be going for a Half-elf Oracle, with a heavy focus on perform and bluff, with some good spells for removing statuses and buffing, of course!

![]() |

I have a diplomacy focused Evangelist Cleric, basically a full package support character with some nice bonuses features. The spells area mix of buff and debuff with open slots for status removal and restoration style spells.
I don't know if this is first come first serve, lottery, or some other option but I would love to throw my hat in the ring! I think the character fits the bill perfectly.

![]() |

@Renvil, Sedoriku and Grandlounge: Hi and thanks for showing interest. The decision about which character to take will be mine but I'll listen to the current players as well (ideally I'd like everyone to have its own specific niche to excell at during play). Btw I also value roleplay potential.
As for your character builds, as I mentioned above you need lvl 5 characters, created with the appropriate gold for their level (so 10.500gp), and yes, of course you can use the Hell's Rebels player's guide trais!

As for back story I have a few ideas. The first that came to mind was a Halfing born to slaves but when born had celestial blood. The two traits, race and blood, would have made life impossible for him, so a church working to free slaves stuck him out to be adopted and raised in Absolom. The hubris of his youth has brought him back seeking a way to undermine Cheliax. His goal is expressly to support the cause not to be the hero himself. Hence the bard / cleric hybrid archtype.
I don't know the full extent of the ap's story so far so I'm will to change my back story as needed to fit the narrative. Or, scrap it and work a different angle.
I can have a PC up tonight to help you decision making.

![]() |

Okay, I will work on a rebuild/level-up tonight. Do you have a deadline?
Also, are there any character creation rules from the beginning we need to know about? (point-buy, background skills, drawbacks for extra traits, etc.)
As Grandlounge said, you can check them on the very first page of this thread.
The deadline will be next monday, I feel 5 days is enough time to come up with a good backstory and character build..

Elurius Parthreon |

Elurius is finished! Though I did have a few questions about some specifics.
First, how are hit points after level 1 handled? Is it like PFS (average +1) or should we roll? She's built with the PFS standard, but I will gladly roll if that's what is being done!
Second, can a divine caster use arcane scrolls and vice verca, or are you going to stick to the rule that they can't? I gave Elurius a couple scrolls of arcane buff spells just in case she could, but if she can't then she'll take a few more cleric ones instead.
Third, does the group have a wand of CLW already? Or should Elurius trade out her wand of Magic Weapon if chosen?
And finally, I'm pretty open to changing things about her character if the group or story need a slightly different character.
Thanks and sorry for the wait!

![]() |

Good Job everyone! This looks like it will be a very dificult choice for me to make. Reading your character sheets and backgrounds will take some time but I think I'll be able to give you an answer by tomorrow.
@Elurius: -Hp level ups are handled the same way they are in PFS. So yeah, your class average +1.
-No mixing scrolls from divine and arcane unless you can somehow cast those spells (via domain, maybe?) or have a way to do so (feats/magic items).
-I believe a wand of Clw was one of the items the group was going to buy next. It was on their "shopping list".

Renvil Ratarion |

Renvil is now up. I hope I didn't miss the cutoff!
A couple of notes:
. . Renvil's background is written from the perspective of the Player's Guide. I don't know what's happened since then, but--if selected--I'm sure we can flesh out what he's been doing since the protest.
. . Renvil has a custom magic item created with the rules here: muleback cords of resistance. This costs 2,500: 1,000 for the cloak of resistance +1 and 1,500 (instead of 1,000) for the muleback cords, as they occupy the same body slot.
Multiple Different Abilities: Abilities such as an attack roll bonus or saving throw bonus and a spell-like function are not similar, and their values are simply added together to determine the cost. For items that take up a space on a character's body, each additional power not only has no discount but instead has a 50% increase in price. Emphasis mine
. . I've selected too many spells; I'll pare down the list if selected. I wanted you to see the options that Renvil brings. I suspect that he might be duplicating something someone else can already do, or you already have a need that he should fill, but that I didn't anticipate.
. . He has a little more than 2000 gp to spend yet. His weapons aren't bought yet, but they can be mundane; he's not at all built to be dealing damage. I could easily pick up that wand of clw the party needs, and some scrolls, alchemical items, and still have some room to play based on party needs.
. . I eventually intend to level him into Evangelist (Shelyn), perhaps with a level or two more of bard first.
