well I am still here...and would like to continue...if possible

Hopefully they notice and come back. Unfortunately it looks like they are not regular posters in the rest of the forums, (I see no post unrelated to this game in their history) so I don't know how often they check. Let's give it a few more days before deciding to do something drastic.

Male Human Fighter 3

I'm still here guys! I've been checking the thread daily, and was waiting for Artagan to act, but he hasn't posted in a week, so let's keep it going.

Anton attempts to run the foul insect through with his sword.

Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Anton's blow scrapes along the beetle's exoskeleton, but fails to penetrate. The creature rears back and sprays acid on those nearest to it.

Damage (acid): 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6
Anton's Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 Success! 1/2 damage.
Santoval's Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

We'll just assume Artagan stayed with the villager for now. Back to Yarroth then.

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

HP: 11

Yarroth targets the beetle again with his bow, hoping to pierce its tough carapace.

Attack-Ranged: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

OK..it is offical...the dice hate me

Male Human Fighter 3

Anton staggers back slightly to avoid most of the noxious spray, but some still hits his sword hand. "Damn you, that really burns!" He recovers and lunges with his blade in a downward slash.

Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

"Ack! Hold still so I can kill you!"

Liberty's Edge

HP: 8

The acid spray catches Santoval completely by surprise, and he staggers back, smoking as the acid eats its way into his armor and clothes. He groans with pain, then focuses his anger to strike at the armored insect once more.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

The wild swing skips off the armored carapace, and Santoval staggers back.

"We need to flank this damned bug...distract it so it doesn't know where the attacks are coming from!"

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The beetle viciously bites Santoval on the leg.

By now Santoval and Anton have moved around to flank the beetle.

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

I think it is my turn...if not, just move me down the inititive...dumb beetle..lol

Again Yarroth attempts to hit the creature with his bow.

Attack:Ranged: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Yarroth's arrow pierces the the beetle's eye. It lurches forward hissing, before suddenly collapsing, not moving.

Looking around the room, there is a pile of filth in the corner. The beetle had been pushing the mangled corpse of the villager toward it.

There are two other exists, a stairway leading downward to the west, and a door in the south wall.

Artagan uses his powers to heal Anton and Santoval. He decides to take the other villager back to Kassen and seek more aid.

Heal Anton: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Heal Santoval: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

If Artagan returns we'll figure something out, but for I'm assuming he's out.

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

Yarroth checks the rest of the party to make sure they are ok. He then moves over to the pile are garbage and takes a look.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

There is nothing useful in the garbage. Some of it looks very old, the rest is spoiled rations or clothes from the villagers.

Male Human Fighter 3

"Nice shooting, Yarroth."

Anton looks over the mangled remains of the corpse the insect was occupied with. "Gods, they thought this place was safe, and they all came in here to die. Not all of them, damn it. Not all of them." He trails off.

"Let's take a look through that door to the south, and then we can head down the stairs west."

Liberty's Edge

hp: 8
"Stupid bug. And I am starting to be angry at the townsfolk for being so naive. Did they really think that a place like this would always remain empty?"

Santoval walks over to listen at the south door.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

You open the door to the south. A smokey corridor leads south for ten feet, then turns east for another ten feet.

The remains of a small fire smolder in the center of this broad chamber, letting off a plume of oily smoke. Fed by a heap of burning gear, debris, and more than few bones, the fire casts a flickering light across the walls of this room, partially obscured by the veil of smoke. Part of the room curves around to the south west and cannot be seen from the entrance.

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

With his bow still ready, Yarroth scans the room.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Male Human Fighter 3

"Someone or something piled this stuff up and lit this fire. A ward, perhaps?" Anton says softly.

Moving into the room cautiously, his stance defensive and guarded, Anton surveys the chamber, making his way towards the concealed southwest area.

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Liberty's Edge

"More like they just moved away when they heard the noise...or they were townfolk and just got grabbed and eaten", says Santoval as he enters the room after Anton and Yarroth. "I got pretty chewed up back there with that bug, so don't plan on me charging in immediately. Additionally, do you think that this room is defensible if we decide to rest?"

Perception, is the room defensible? 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Touch attack vs Anton: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Strength Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

A shadowy figure appears in the smoke. It reaches out and touches Anton's arm and he visibly pales.

Shadow initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Anton initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Santoval initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Yarroth initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

The thick smoke gives a -2 to perception checks. Anton or Yarroth are up before the shadow.

Male Human Fighter 3

Anton recoils in shock and horror. No sound escapes his gaping mouth, but instinct takes over, and his sword arm darts out, swiping at the shadow-thing.

HP 14
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Yarroth is taken back by the sudden attack, and he quickly levels his bow and shoots at the shadowy figure.

HP: 11

Attack-Ranged: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Male Human Fighter 3

Oops. I just realized that was STRENGTH damage, not HP damage. So -1 to attack rolls and damage. Adjust as needed, Deinol.

To Hit Anton: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Strength Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Your blows hit the shadowy figure, but only barely find purchase. The shadow dances in the smoke, reaching out to touch Anton again. Anton pales even further.

Feel free to take your turns in any order, just to speed things along.

Male Human Fighter 3

Anton starts to move slightly away from the creature, his sword and shield arms dropping lower with the weight, as the strength in his limbs seems to wane. "Feel....weak. Must...keep...attacking."

Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Confirm Critical 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Yarroth...Santoval...Artagan..." he says between labored breaths, "Need....help...here."

This must be a lucky keyboard, two natural 20s in a row to hit. Too bad I can't seem to put much damage on it!

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

HP:11

Yarroth again aims at the mysterious creature, attempting to get it away from Anton.
"Over here! Try this on for size!"

Attack-Ranged: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Are our attacks having any effect on this creature?? Is there anything around that might help? Does it stay away from the light of the fire?? Grasping at straws here...lol

Liberty's Edge

"By the gods, what is that thing!" Santoval says as he hacks at the shadowy shape.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Santoval's swing rips through the smoke, setting small skirls dancing in its passage, but he is unable to determine if he was even swinging near the creature.

To Hit Anton: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Despite feeling no firm contact against the shadow, it seems to be disrupted by your blows. The figure fades from view and is less distinct than before. The figment continues to dance around Anton, but he deftly avoids its touch this time.

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

HP:11

Yarroth nocks another arrow and takes aim at the indistinct creature.

Atack-Ranged: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Liberty's Edge

"I think whatever we are doing to it...its working. This is a plan that I can get behind...keep hitting it!"

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Santoval fans the smoke with his greatsword once more, but the shadowy shape is too indistinct for Santoval to target effectively.

Male Human Fighter 3

"For...Kassen..." Anton's attempt at a battle cry sounds more like a whisper, as he struggles to raise his sword once again against the elusive shadow.

Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

To Hit Santoval: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

You and the shadow continue to dance around in the smoke, but each twists away from the others blows. The thick smoke is making it hard to breath, you feel the need for fresh air soon.

I am working a convention for the next week, so I'll probably only get to be online for a few hours each evening.

Liberty's Edge

What conference, if you don't mind my curiosity? Additionally, do you mind connecting up a discussion thread?

"Perhaps I need to hit it harder?"

Sorin braces his feet, and cleaves the smoke with all of his might, the air hums around the blade as it moves through the smoke.

Oops I think I may have missed a turn...

Raising his bow once again, Yarroth targets the shadow.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. And of course all our planning for the last few months is out the window because nobody passed our booth requirements to the furniture subcontractor. Arg. I will make a discussion thread tonight when I get to the hotel.

Santoval's powerful blow dissipates the shadow form. The flames in the center of the room go out. As the smoke begins to clear you notice human bones amongst the ashes.

Discussion added, that was easier than I thought. I would link, but I am via iPhone right now.

Male Human Fighter 3

As the shadow dissipates, Anton falls to his knees and lets his sword clatter to the floor. "Desna's grace..." His breathing seems labored, and his eyes are downcast. "Death is one thing, that I do not fear, but feeling helpless...it's like my strength has withered away. I need rest, my friends, and some clean air - this smoke is suffocating."

How does the group feel about going outside the tomb and resting for eight hours? Also, I'm not sure if anyone has anything that would help me regain my strength, but that would certainly be nice!

Liberty's Edge

"I can agree with that, I have several cuts that need tending too as well."

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

"I will search the area to make sure it is safe to rest. I will keep watch while you regain your strenth, have no fear."

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

The smoke slowly clears through a hole in the ceiling. This room has only one door, the way which you came.

Liberty's Edge

Santoval grunts "huh" seeing that the room is a dead end. Then thinking better, he checks the room for secret or concealed passages.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

I am assuming that he finds nothing.

"Actually, if we get the bones out of here, we can close this room up and sleep here. What do you think?"

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

Yarroth also looks for any other exits out of this room...as well he goes and checks the pile of burning material, making sure it is all out.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Male Human Fighter 3

"You know, I think I'll just sit here for a while." Anton says, looking up at the ceiling towards the hole in the roof, and surveying his surroundings. "It look like this room could be barricaded temporarily - the only way out is the way in."

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Just realized that I was actually gimping myself too much for the strength damage, it's a -1 penalty for every two points of damage. Since I took three points of strength damage, I should be at an overall -1 penalty on to hit and damage rolls. A day's rest isn't going to bring me back to full effectiveness, but it leaves me with 2 damage to strength - an additional day's rest should have me back to normal!

Liberty's Edge

hp: 8

"Lets get the room barricaded then."

Santoval will try and find a few pieces of wood from the remains of the fire that can be wedged between the floor and the door to keep it from opening up. If there are not suitable pieces, he will go back to a previous room to get something to keep the door closed. Failing all that, he will sleep in front of the door. That is assuming that the door opens inward.

In the remains of the fire you find two things, a copper key and a dagger. The dagger seems to be undamaged by the flames, even the leather wrapped hilt.

You easily bar the door and secure the room for an evenings rest.

Liberty's Edge

Brushing the ashes off the key and the dagger sheath, Santoval frowns.

"I imagine that the key might be significant, but I know that this dagger must be magical in some way. Look at the sheath," Santoval says, holding it out for inspection by his comrades,"It was in that fire for some time and there isn't even a scorch mark on it. We may need it later."

Santoval makes himself comfortable and settles down for a rest.

"I got banged up pretty well, so I would like to get a bit of shut-eye. Don't hesitate to wake me up for my turn at watch though."

And with that he curls up in his cloak and blanket and is soon asleep.

Male Human Male Human Ranger-2 | Init +3 | Spell Slots: 2/2 | Spell DC 11 | AC 15 HP 20/20 | S+4/D+5/C+2/I+0/W+1/C-1 | Perc +3 | HD: (d10) 2/2

Yarroth takes the first watch of about 4 hours, then wakes Santoval.

Nothing interrupts your rest and you awaken somewhat refreshed after eight hours.

Male Human Fighter 3

Chewing on some trail rations, Anton's demeanor seems much improved. "I'm still feeling a bit weak, but I have enough strength to continue exploring this crypt further - I follow your lead, my friends."

He pulls his sword and begins gong through what look like training exercises and motions away from the rest of the group. His confidence may have been shaken a bit by the altercation with the shadow, but he seems like he's back to his old, brash self - more or less.

Liberty's Edge

After waking, Santoval polishes off some of his trail rations, drinkng a fair amount of water with the dried fruit and biscut. Finishing, Santoval scratches at his slowly growing beard as he watches Anton exercise in the torch-light.

"I am thinking about using one of our healing potions, but I want your thoughts on it. Do it now, or just hold on to one, and use it if we get into trouble? My saergent always said that potions are like water in a canteen, they don't do you any good when they are in in the bottle."

Once we have all eaten, and got our gear put away, we will unblock the door and head back down the corridor.
