Round 6
Crap...forgot about that other damage. That will teach me to post in a hurry at work. :)
Jon barely keeps his feet as he grasps his holy symbol and desperately tries to heal himself.

Wow...great time for a 20 :)
Jon feels a bit of strength flow back into his bones. He stumbles back behind Harry.
5-foot step to N5.
I never cast it on myself. I only cast it on Charles.

Out of curiousity, when did you ask for these fort saves, I didn't see anything since the beginning of this combat.

Round 6
Haha...ha... Sarenrae must be really interested in us today...
Leylyn moves up to O6 and uses here cure light wounds wand on him.

DM Deevor |
Lysandra and Jon retreat from the slavering beast, as it breathes blood, either its own or Jon's, out of its flared nostrils on Harry's already crimson flecked armor. On its tusks, flesh remains stuck, but it's flicked away with a twist of its great muscular neck and head. Harry, with two beasts set upon him, has a decision to make. With a great swing of his axe, it comes down on the head of he large rampant boar that had done so much damage to Jon. The smaller boar, it's piggy eyes enraged with fear and desperation, attacks once more the one object in its way to freedom. As the axe sinks deep into the neck of the great boar, its legs give way and it sinks to the floor. With a great floppy sound and a cloud of dust that rises around, its body rolls over onto its side, its legs give one last final death throw kick, and it heaves a sigh, before it becomes silent forever.
Meanwhile, Leylyn drops her net and finds her magical wand, as she rushes towards Harry, still hurt and bleeding from the boars attack. Lysandra sings a magical song, of the healing power of the waves, as a blue-green aura washes over Jon. Jon himself drops to one knee, holding a powerful symbol of Cayden to his heart, he chants quietly and slowly and a white light glows softly and warmly, entering his body, providing warmth and nourishment. A wand touches Harry's shoulder, as a smaller point of warm white light enters his body.
Hearing and sensing that his mate has met her demise, the large boar in front of Charles, brandishes its jaws threateningly, bearing yellowish-brown teeth colored with red and pink from the flesh ripped from Charles' body. The animal lets out a large bellow and attempts to gore Charles before it too falls a victim of death's black sleep. It targets once more the already weakened area of the armor and reeks havoc again with Charles' body, pulling out still pumping veins and mutilated muscle. His blood spills on the floor in pools. Not put off by this sudden surge of pain, Charles' ancestral Greatsword almost as if guided by the strength of spirits past, comes down on the back of the great beast, slicing into its vertebrae and leaving it dead on the ground. Charles looks down, and lets a sigh of relief escape, knowing he had met a worthy adversary.
The small boar attacks, but Harry's reactions are far too fast for such a creature as that, and it misses its mark, leaving Harry unscathed.
Yet, it cannot escape the retribution as both Charles and Harry once more work together to end its life. Yet, there is a squeaking sound, despite the carnage. The party turn round to see the last boar escaping into the forest, hoping that it won't meet more who see it as nothing other than a tasty morsel of dinner.
Jon receives 28 points of healing.
Harry receives 9 points of healing.
Charles takes 19 damage.
The sleeping pig wakes and runs away.
Combat has ended .... time for you to decide what to do next etc...
I changed your spell in line with my understanding of you spells, it didn't make any real difference to the combat outcomes, just let me know which 2nd level spell you decide to loose.

Heavy Harry |
Leaning on the carcass of the large pig, harry starts checking his wounds and cleaning his axe... as he looks as the sheer size of all the meat, he stops cleaning the axe and working out what bits would be the best to chop off
"Anyone have any ideas how to get all this back?"
Harry looks at a few of the trees to see if some might be good to form a litter with so the bodies can be piled up and dragged back
"...but first, a brief respite in the shade"

"It looks like we will be eating well for a few weeks!" Jon says surveying the carcass. "Some rest sounds good. Fighting is hot, nasty work!"
He holds his holy symbol forward as the power of Cayden Cailean flows through him and throughout the clearing.

Lysandra Eventide |
"A bit of rest would be most welcome....I don't recall it ever being this damned hot at home." Lysandra says pulling her mithral shirt armor off.
"Let's take the normal size boars back to ship along with us, along with what ever edible vegitation we can come up with. Taking any more than normal boars and I doubt there's enough salt onboard the ship to preserve it."
Heavy Harry |
"Well perhaps someone with a bit of skill could smoke some of the extra meat to preserve it, or dry it into jerky...either way a hearty barbeque on the beach is well in order"
"If nothing else, I'll take the tusks of the big boars, perhaps one of the nautical types can fashion some scrimshaw, or a dagger handle or the like."
Charles Beecroft |
For the record, even after all of that healing, Charles is still down 16hp, but given that almost everyone else is still injured as well, I am not complaining.
Charles nods at his companions' suggestions.
"I agree, we should drag all of the carcasses to the beach, so that we can salt what we can, and smoke what we can. Once the rest of the crew arrives back, any excess should be consumed on the spot. I am not prone to gluttony, but a feast of fresh roast pork would certainly be most welcome!"
At the mention of carving tusks, Charles looks thoughtful.
"Harry, would you mind terribly if I kept one set of tusks? I would not mind trying my hand at doing some carving."
He then rubs his hands together in glee, thinking of the feast that is in his not too distant future.
"Right then. Let's see what we can do to construct some litters to drag this lot back to the beach!"
Heavy Harry |
"Harry, would you mind terribly if I kept one set of tusks? I would not mind trying my hand at doing some carving."
"Of course Master Beecroft, theres four good ones, was only reckoning on collecting them all if no one else was keen, no point leaving them to rot. - so certainly a pair each it is ."
Harry gets to work helping on building litters, staying in the shade where possible.
Thanks for the heals, both Thumper and I are now maxed back out
Charles Beecroft |
"Most kind of you, Harry. Now, I will try to pull my weight, as it were, whilst we shift these to the beach, but you will have to excuse me if I am not quite up to my usual standards - that big boar packed quite a wallop..."
Lysandra Eventide |
For the record, even after all of that healing, Charles is still down 16hp, but given that almost everyone else is still injured as well, I am not complaining.
Lysandra, seeing Charles is still injured, casts a spell of healing on him.

Craft checks for the litters please, those with Profession(Sailor) can use that as you are skilled in ropes and things. If I remember 1 hours rest in the shade is 1HP returned... if resting, then you take not part in preparing litters or the boars meat, etc. You have 6 boars carcasses and 2 dire boar carcasses.
DM Deevor |
Plenty of time to rest back on the boat...
Profession(Sailor):1d20 + 8
What is the deal with this character and d20 rolls?!?!?
There has to be an advantage with having a profession or craft, and not just being skilled in perception. Getting an idea of how long you are going to take making the litters etc, before you head back....
Just realised what you meant, yes does seem the dice gods have it in for you, but your companions seem to have the god look kindly on them, with at least 3 crits and a 20 for concentration...I guess Lysandra is just the unlucky one for this party.
Oh yes, if you get healed back to full, and you no longer have any non-lethal damage, then you loose the fatigued condition. I think that's how it works.
Heavy Harry |
Harry couldn't craft his way out of a paper bag! :p Anyhow with all the healing Jon hit me with it was enough to knock out all the damage
Harry has heard of a litter, and has seen a litter, but cant for the life of him work out how to MAKE a litter - he decides he'd be more useful dragging heavy objects like dead bodies and lumps of wood, and simply takes instruction from the more epxerienced members.
Charles Beecroft |
Charles nods his thanks to Lysandra as he feels more of his injuries heal-over, and turns to the task of crafting litters...
Profession(Sailor): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15.

Sorry, don't have the time or inspiration to write a long story bit for the aftermath....and the choice is to keep the adventure moving or wait. It's best to keep the adventure moving so.....
The heat of the jungle takes its toll, but after a couple of hours the party has butchered the boars and loaded them onto the newly made litters....As the last of the boars is loaded, Lysandra loks up and sees a couple of carrion eating birds circling above. Waiting to clean the bones, once the large monkeys (that's you) have left the scene. Leylyn's parrot, suddenly jumps from the tree it was perched on, shouting a warning squawk. You leave the clearing, your job done.
When you arrive at the beach,, you see the captain's launch is gone, although the 'Green Serpent' is still moored off the island.. Your launch appears to have been moved up the beach.Perception check everyone.
Everyone who suffers from heat exhaustion, must make a fort saves...Lysandra is able to use her Bardic abilities. Rather than ask for 5 saves, I'll go just for the last save, DC=23, failure means 2d8+1d4 non-lethal damage...if it takes you to 0 or below, you are unconscious.
You make out the faint sounds of snoring, coming from within a large depression, hidden in the sand. Walking over you see George asleep in the sun, his face reddening, but he looks happily serene lying there. As your shadow passes over him, he wakes with a start. His hand instantly grabs at the dagger in his belt, and he brandishes it towards you. Then, "Alright then...who are you?......Oh good its you! The cap'n said to get back to the ship when your ready, but don't make it too long." He puts his dagger away,

DM Deevor |
Perception check: 1d20 + 7
Is the Perception check 23 or is that the fort save DC?
I didn't realise, but its both saves...I think Lysandra will be a popular lady, with her fort save, her new found friends stay close as she tells tales of the sea.
Apologies Leylyn with Gregori, he seems to have inhaled some shape changer dust and temporarily become a parrot, but it wears off, he's back to being a toad. I think I got away with that without anyone noticing....So many different games, some many familiars... :)
DM Deevor |
George, his dagger now safely away, rubs his eyes against the bright sun, though now it is well past its zenith and heading towards the horizon. He talks as he makes his way to the waters edge, splashing the warm water of the bay over his face, waking his features. "Oh, well no not really, sir. The cap'n just told me to wait for you, so I did. I must have fallen asleep, there are insects here which if they bite you make you fall asleep in the sun and bake" as he says in hushed tones, secretly to Jon, "Until they eat you." He continues once again in his normal confident voice, "Must have a bite on me somewhere." He points to a reddish mark near his foot, "See, there. You can see that!"
Heavy Harry |
Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Harry was so preoccupied with listening to Lysandra while dragging the huge amounts of meat back that he totally missed noticing the sleeping George.
"Ahh yes George, I see the mark very clearly!, though the buggers appear to have stolen the Captains launch as well!"
Charles Beecroft |
Charles smiles at George.
"Well, we have plenty of food to take back - we may even need to make more than one trip... Let's load this up so that we can enjoy some fine roast pork as soon as possible!"
DM Deevor |
You see that the wound is probably just a mark from some ill fitting shoes or something that has rubbed the back of his heel.
George, hearing Harry's quip about the captain's boat, pipes up, "No! the cap'n and crew took it back. The cap'n said he wanted to get back as soon as he could. Seemed in a bit of a hurry, but we got some fruit, nuts and various sorts of meat, but from the look of it not so much as you." As you load the stock on the launch, it becomes obvious you won't be able to get it all across in one trip.
Heavy Harry |
"Right you are then George, I was hoping for a siesta, a splash and a great barbeque on the beach, but obviously the Captain is looking to get underway sooner than my plan would allow. I will wait on the beach with Thumper and maybe someone else who might want to volunteer while the first load goes over"

As Jon looks at the red mark, you notice and Jon can't avoid it that young master George, is rather fidgety. With a look at George, Jon quizzes him about his 'insect bite'. George is obviously lying about it. In a bit of a panic about being found out and in a bit of a fluster he says, "Sir, please don't tell the cap'n you found me asleep, it won't go down well. He told me to keep watch for you here and I wasn't. He won't be well pleased."
It is common for sailors to be flogged for disobeying a ship's master. It's the normal punishment and accepted as such.

"Hah, sounds fine to me. If it all goes bad then I'll be stuck on a deserted tropical island with a load of food and an exotic Elven maiden...I could think of far worse fates"
Harry beams his mirthful grin he usually wears, his easy demeanour strikingly different to the axe weilding mountain of carnage you saw earlier in the day. Its almost as if he is two different people.

"I'll be unusually frank with you Miss Leylyn, I think you are madder than a cut snake and know how to give a spooky look or two that would send a cave troll running, but you are reliable and not a shirker when things get bloody - I reckon that makes you good company indeed"
Harry gives the small Elf a warm smile and gets to work loading meat onto the rowboat. Thumper stares at him, and stares...and stares...until Harry throws him a bit of loose boar innards.

The transport to the ship of the meat goes with out mishap, making two trips was more exhausting than normal, but nothing that a good nights sleep shouldn't put right. As the last of the food is brought on board Captain Trueheart congratulates you on a very good haul, certainly more than he and his men managed to bring back.
The whole crew set up a table on deck and tonight everyone will eat together, including the captain, in a feast of celebration. Joseph, unaffected by the heat, works hard preparing tonight's meal of fresh fruit and a snake meat and vegetable salad.
Darkness falls over the Green Serpent, but tonight it's lamps glow and a warm yellow light is spread across the deck as the ship gently rocks in the calm seas. Above in the warm air the stars twinkle in the cloudless sky and the smell of good cooked food extends across the gathered friends and sailors. Tonight all on board can be happy with the hunting and gathering. Tales are told, exploits are revealed and somehow the boars seemed larger in the telling, smiles on happy relaxed faces. Every half an hour or so the captain asks one of you or the crew to get up and spend a few minutes wandering round the ship on watch, but you are soon back at the table, leaning back on chairs, stools and benches with drink in one hand and food in the other.
With the whole crew here relaxing, you can ask any questions you you think will help, for tomorrow morning the Captain has said its time to make sail again. Once you set sail, it will be onto the book adventure, which I hope to have the first bit ready for Monday, I'm away this weekend, probably without my computer, wild hey!!! Hope you enjoyed the journey.
Heavy Harry |
For the first time on the voyage, you notice Harry is actually relaxed and not guarded, as if he has finally opened up to bestowing some level of trust in the crew. He happily participates in the feasting and drinking, and even Thumper lolls around lazily on a full belly of pig.
"You know lads, I could almost get used to this whole seafaring lark, but the lack of womanly company is right getting on my goat - you saw what I turned into back in that forest, having to release all that pent up aggression through violent means in unhealthy I reckon! The tender touch of a woman is whats needed to keep this giant gentle."
Harry goes back to feasting after sharing his pearl of wisdom.
DM Deevor |
Captain Trueheart, laughs at Harry's words, "Already, you seem to have fallen prey of the greatest hazard at sea. But I'm sure we'll be able to point you in the right direction when we get back into port to loose your pent up frustrations. And if I can't help direct you, then I'm sure either Runther or Joseph will dig out some spots where the young women gather. Though I think you do a dis-service to your two beautiful companions, without there presence the trip would surely have been even more tedious. Their company on board has brightened all our spirits, he lads?" All with the exception of Daevin, smile and laugh, slapping each other on the back and winking to the ladies. Though none are so familiar as to incur the wrath of either woman.
Charles Beecroft |
Charles quirks an eyebrow, and smirks faintly.
"I take it that it just would not do to be cast adrift on a sea of wild emotions for too long, then, Harry... One must find the occasional port where one can dock, and weather the full fury of the storm, until the tempest has worn itself out...? Just be careful... I dare say some of the ladies can be more than a little bit of a handful... 'Twould be a great pity if you awoke in the morning on the street, penniless, and wearing nothing but your drawers..."
He nods in the direction of his female companions.
"...Of course, present company is in a completely different category, and thus no direct comparison should be made..."
I must say, knowing the predilections of most sailors, I am pleasantly surprised that none of the crew have attempted to... force the issue... Charles muses to himself.
Before the evening's merriment gets too out of hand, Charles will retire for the night, taking a few choice strips of pork with him to feed to Theodric.
I have enjoyed things so far :-)
