Actually the +2 was negated by the drinking penalty...guess I should have showed my work.

Hey Deevor, wiiiiiiiiildly off topic, but were you saying somewhere else you were looking at running a LoF campaign? I've been pimping out my whacky char looking for a LoF campaign, but might wait IF you were, and IF it wasn't too far off, and IF my idea wasn't too whacky :)
Not going to app for that RotRL we are both shooting for - my whacky idea was just a bit too much; he quite liked it (people usually like my odd stuff) just wasn't going to roll with the race I NEEDED to make it that little something. Noting quite captured the Creole Voodoo Witch (to me) like a highly charismatic Drow.

It's my idea to run LoF in the future, but I'll wait to see how this game goes first. I doubt I'd start LoF for at least 6 months...

Under normal circumstances, Charles would prefer to be at the front, because he is a front-line fighter, after all :-)
However, for the purposes of this combat, I can understand why he would be at the back.

Leylyn prefers to be in the back, and allows the others to move in front of her as they come.

It seems to me, that normally you would have Harry and Charles at the front, Jon and Lysandra second, but ready to move up at a moments notice then Leylyn standing behind.....Although, I think all 4 except Leylyn would be happy in the front row.
I am hoping Lysandra will tell the captain the order of the watch....your DM is not going back to work it out, I would like Lysandra to actually tell the Captain....Otherwise the Captain will impose a watch order...you are warned, so don't get upset if the Captain does this....

Lysandra Eventide |

Ok, so I know we have Harry taking the 0000-0400 and Leylyn taking the 2000-0000 shift and 0800-1200 doesn't require a shift. Lysandra will take the sunrise shift.
So we have:
0000-0400 = Harry
0400-0800 = Lysandra
0800-1200 = No Shift Required
1200-1600 = ?
1600-2000 = ?
2000-0000 = Leylyn
Charles and Jon, do either of you have a preference? If either one of you have a strong preference for the sunrise shift, Lysandra may be willing to switch.

Lysandra Eventide |

Well, I did previously mention a preference for the sunrise shift in the IC thread, but it is no big deal; I will take the midday shift instead.
You did? I must have missed it, so Lysandra will take the sunset shift instead.
The shifts will be as follows:
0000-0400 = Harry
0400-0800 = Charles
0800-1200 = No Shift Required
1200-1600 = Jon
1600-2000 = Lysandra
2000-0000 = Leylyn
Does this look agreeable to everyone?

In future you need to hit with an attack, before you can grapple, because you managed a natural 20 roll, and I'm feeling nice today.
That was the case back in 3.5, but if I'm not mistaken under Pathfinder rules, it is a single role. In this case, I have combined the action with the prehesile whip trait, if you rule that what I have done is not within the scope of the trait, obviously, that's fine too.
Prehensile Whip (equipment): In your hand a whip has a life of its own, wrapping around pillars and beams with ease. You can use a whip as if it were a rope with a grappling hook at the end. Attaching your whip is a standard action, but detaching it is a full-round action.
As a standard action, you can attempt to grapple a foe, hindering his combat options. If you do not have Improved Grapple, grab, or a similar ability, attempting to grapple a foe provokes an attack of opportunity from the target of your maneuver. Humanoid creatures without two free hands attempting to grapple a foe take a –4 penalty on the combat maneuver roll. If successful, both you and the target gain the grappled condition (see the Appendices). If you successfully grapple a creature that is not adjacent to you, move that creature to an adjacent open space (if no space is available, your grapple fails). Although both creatures have the grappled condition, you can, as the creature that initiated the grapple, release the grapple as a free action, removing the condition from both you and the target. If you do not release the grapple, you must continue to make a check each round, as a standard action, to maintain the hold. If your target does not break the grapple, you get a +5 circumstance bonus on grapple checks made against the same target in subsequent rounds. Once you are grappling an opponent, a successful check allows you to continue grappling the foe, and also allows you to perform one of the following actions (as part of the standard action spent to maintain the grapple).
That being said, the grub is allowed an AoO against Lysandra provided they have a 15ft reach.
Wow. Glad I spoilered that.

Ahh, not realised that, we've all been playing grapple wrong in our group since we started PRPG. Let me read it all again and understand the new rules...ooops...
I did like the whip action though, always wanted to do the Indiana Jones thing in Role Playing, managed it once in a Star Wars game, but it didn't last long.

I think I will resume with the game on Monday, to give me time to set the next encounter, so much easier when I can just copy from a book...doh!
I will let you decide if you want to play through the next encounter with the 3 bugs (XP awarded) or you want to assume the bugs have been destroyed (small XP award) and you resume just moments after the last bug is destroyed? I'm happy with either.

Heavy Harry |

I'm flexi either way.
Now that we are 'onto them' I reckon they are going to have a big squish :p
On a side note, I am home all weekend and missed my trip due to having sinusitis - so off to bed for me for a few days with drugs.

Yep, your dog got a good tracking roll, so it won't be a problem finding the area in the hold where they ended up. I just gotta think of describing it and all that... like I say it won't be long before we get to the book adventure...I blame Talomyr for these little start up encounters, by saying he wanted to be in more of a sea type adventure... :)
but I must say, you guys kick ass... a real bunch of heavies...hope I can make the encounters difficult enough.. :)
Have fun with the bed and drugs...and hope you feel better soon.

Well, I do not mind too much whether we go through the 'hunt', or simply expedite it, although I will note that more XP is always good, so I am happy to do the 'hunt' :-)

Heavy Harry |

Hey Lysandra, that 'other game' I joined is looking dubious.
GM last post was 3 days ago, and so I went looking back on avatar posting history and I must say I have concerns over 'longevity'... Might be repimping a Dragon.
Bloody gutted if this all turned out to be a fools errand. I'm actually (more than slightly) p***ed if it turns out to be true.

True, more XP = good :) At least we have a mutt to go sniff out the bad guys with!

I would be fine with another hunt too. Maybe one with a bit more room to maneuver :)

Yeah this time YOU can go get ick on yourself Charles! :)

I don't believe Tanner has picked a replacement for his game yet, it might be worth submitting Auri if you think Apothecary's game is dead.

Heavy Harry |

Yeah will try hold out til the end of the day... basically that GM put a post up on Wed, business as usual, and its now Sat arvo with no word.
We were just wrapping character design then... nada.
If the GM doesnt show back up I'll just move on to one of the other campaigns, hows Tanners playing out?

Heavy Harry |

Pretty well, Tanner is one of the reliable players/DMs on here, plus he seems to have a good feel for pacing.
Righto cool - the LoF group has imploded. I have asked Lucendar to consider a late app, as he was the person I had originally apped to, and pending that response will ask Tanner, who's game I subsequently apped to.

Heavy Harry |

Thanks Lys, I was too late for Lucendar as his pick had been made, and missed Tanners. Thanks for putting in the good word :)
I'm a tad annoyed at AK's jerk move, but aside from that...!

Well it happens, don't let it get you down. My first Pbp character on my account never got a chance to shine twice. He made it into two different pbp games and both DMs became MIA right when it was about to start. Guess it was just never ment to be.

Jon Former wrote:I would be fine with another hunt too. Maybe one with a bit more room to maneuver :)I definitely second that motion! :-/
And I thought you enjoyed life on board the ship... :)

![]() |

Thanks for a very entertaining combat in the lower deck with the bugs.
As you went after the bugs, the ship entered an area where two sea currents created turbulence in the water and gave you problems with your footing, which had little effect as no one fell over, Acrobatics DC=5 or prone. DC=10 or stagger and bump into things, which was what disturbed grub 3 and caused it to attack Leylyn, (lowest DC on initial round in the aisle under 10.)
The grubs had set up a rabbit warren like nest in the bags of flour, so could move freely in and out of the sack, attacking and retreating in, getting total concealment 50% to hit, so Charles missed most of the time, lucky DM rolls. Using his light weapon, Harry used his perception to anticipate a grub attack, hence he hit more than Charles, but only light non-lethal damage.
The grubs chased attackers from from the aisle as the used sacks on both sides of the aisle, getting a grub in the aisle meant they lost concealment and would more or less be killed in one or two hits by Charles. So moving back 5ft would draw the grub out.
Can't remember if I said before, but the grubs base stats were for Giant Rot Grubs, CR3....
When you entered the lower deck and the sea became rough, Joeseph the chef dropped a bottle/pottery canister of liquid on the deck above, hence the crashing noise. Just a little atmosphere....
...and the lower deck was in total darkness.
So that's what happened.....

DM Deevor wrote:Lysandra is just about to climb back down the stairs, when she hears the captain's voice carry sharply across the deck, "Leylyn, where are you going... "Lysandra give the captain a quizzical look, having been called Leylyn, but continues her song none-the-less.
The curse of our similar names strikes again...

If only I could say it was intentional, it was just the right icon for a watery adventure... :) but yep he does stand out in a crowd...
thanks for the kind words...feeling better today, I felt I could hardly think straight yesterday, something is going round, mmy son had it earlier in the week. All my wife said was ... "man 'flu" ...with typical sympathy...ho hum..

Yeah I came down with sinusitis a couple of weeks ago that was no pleasure at all, I was just zoning out at work - real Day of the Dead kinda Zombie thing happening.

Feeling knackered and uninspired, particularly as the post monster ate the last effort ... we'll be onto the next section in a couple of days ... just tidy up the bugs and discourse.
Will post tomorrow now ..
I hate it when the post monster is hungry.
I write all my long stuff in Word these days and copy paste it.
Rest up :)
