I updated my spells for our island excursion.
Jon, I don't normally worry about spell items, except Sound Blast does require a musical instrument....so either you can beg/steal/borrow an instrument or you can change the spell... Hope you don't think I'm being too harsh ... but ...

Ahhh...quite right. No problem.
I think I will take Lysandra up on her offer.

Sorry guys, you got ahead of me, so I'm taking you back into the water...I mean you don't want to miss this now do you....
Unfortunately something in the water has attracted your attention...and mainly its Jon's cries of pain....
...those who live through this will be on the beach in a small while..

Hi Deevor,
I like the mechanics that you use for this seafaring adventure. Would you happen to have them posted online anywhere? Or in a document that you could send?
I'm am DM'ing my home group through Rise of the Runelords now, but we are trying out small side quests for fun through the adventure. I'd like to try out something on the sea.
Thanks.

Guys...with Christmas coming up...just thought I'd let you know the game will rest over Xmas...from 23rd Dec to Jan 2nd...we brits like to take it easy when its nice and cold....
The office party is Wednesday...so its a no game day...next day is XMAS meal with an old gaming group I used to play with, so probably a slow day...and on Tuesday I'll be with the current gaming group unless it get called off....so the run up to Christmas may not see me posting as often as you like...
...should get you out the water for Christmas tho... :)

...Thanks Jon, most of the mechanics are pretty standard in the Pathfinder RPG...The hammock test and the sea chase I think I explained either in this thread or in game...
....the rest is just me trying to give you a sea flavored adventure and because you guys are so tough, making it difficult by using things to give the monsters an advantage.... so make the boat rock and you need acrobatics or seafarer check, for unstable footing...its looking for things like that..
...it's all Talomyr's fault really, when he said he wanted to play a sea adventure...I thought I'd put a little introductory encounters on the way...so its really just a journey...where things happen, hopefully with a little story connection ... tho the party has missed some opportunities, for maybe understanding a little more that's going on....but back to the mechanics, for a sea adventure am trying to give advantages to those with seafarer as a profession, so they find it easier to control the launch than everyone else (or other skill checks you've used). That normally means, I try to combine skills to determine how good an outcome of an action like rowing a launch will be... other times the story determines the outcome... like the last set of rolls for moving the launch, it could have gone further but I think that Charles and Lysandra would really want to be next to Harry, so ...
The premise for the rowing with one or more persons each side, port starboard...strength check to see how strong the pull is and how far the launch will travel...if one side of the launch has a really low strength check and the other has a really high strength check, the the natural inclination is for the launch to veer one way or the other...the intelligence check means that the oarsman adjusts his pull on the oars to compensate for the low strength check..and then the launch goes forward in a straight line... I don't have exact numbers, less than 5 for either would take the craft in wrong direction, but it depends on the combination, if the combination is less than 15 then its likely the check would fail... but it depends on the circumstances...
The rest .. like the combat, is trying to think what it would really be like on a ship... hot, crowded, boring, dark below deck .. etc..
I'm not using any weather rolls, though they could be used for weather..except for the islands, when it came up HOT...
The other thing is the choice of monsters .. such that they fit in the right places ...
In short the adventure and this thread are the only documentation ... but feel free to ask me anything and I'll try to answer as best I can ... otherwise the Pathfinder Core Rulebook chapter 13 environment .. other than that I'm just winging it and making it up as I go along, but giving it some thought as I do.
To be fair, I'm getting to the stage, where I'm thinking of trying this journey with my RL group too .. you guys are inspiring me to work at it and give you something to think about .. and try and give you the taste of the sea.

You'll only be disappointed with running this with others as we are such a bunch of rockstars you will just not be able to go back.
On a serious note,
Thanks for the great work so far guys, and thanks Mr GM.
Us Aussies like to have our break too - 30-40 degrees C days here with smashing hot sun and summer showers at night mean lots of lazing around on the beach or swimming - too hot to think :)

Yeah, and for us Poms the only savin grace is at least this year we might come back with the Ashes. Other than that we're just green with envy...

Lurker Below from the Tome of Horrors II You just fought something very close to one of these, with a few small changes and converted to Pathfinder.
Short and almost deadly....

I won't be posting today...keep playing...

Have we made the sandline though?
If we hot the beach we can take up where we left off, just the maidens look even more alluring to Harry's altered/drugged state :p

Yes, now you're on the beach, we can either take an intermission until the New Year now you at at a clean story break...or we go on for a week and stop wherever we are....personally, I think we reconvene in Jan on the beach...we can do some prep on the beach for a few days anyway ...

Hello all. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. When are we starting back up again?
Excellent so far, was just down at one of our famous beaches (Manly) enjoying the crisp cool ocean and burning hot sands :)
Think it was starting again next week?
Or as soon as Harry and Jon finish all the beers.

That's nothing. It is going to get up to 50 degrees (F) here on Friday! Eat your heart out! :)

Hope you all had a great Xmas and New Year,
and you got what you wanted from Santa....
...though no one got me any new Paizo stuff, boo hoo!!!
The holidays are almost over, so its time to get back to everything again. The time has come to start up again...

New Years Day was 42c.
I burnt my feet on the concrete while out washing my car.
Hot as Hades.
That's the trouble with failing your fortitude save on car washing.... :)

I will be on the road for approximately 72 hours starting tomorrow, so my ability to post may be limited, or non-existent.
Feel free to DMPC me whilst that is going on, if necessary, although my back-log of actions will probably keep me going, at least for a little while ;-)

I'll get the next important round done soon, it got a bit confusing so I'll need to spend some time doing it.....
...and what's this with all these crits....better save them for when you need them.... :)

It's the second time this reply has been eaten....this last time by my editor, which is now having funny turns and deciding to end itself without much help from me.....
...sorry guys...I'm a bit pi55ed off about it myself....
...I was just getting to the boars fight back bit and....
...to keep it going, I'll do a bare bones fight for this round....

![]() |

And a little bit of background for that last fight.
The family of 8 little boars had encroached upon the territory of 2 large dire boars. The dire boars were chasing the boars away and the little boars were running away. My idea for the encounter was that the 8 boars would have run at you, would have bullrushed you to get past, knocking you over on their way to freedom. Although Jon's sonic boom stopped that, best laid plans of DM's and mice etc...

All those boars bunched up together was too hard to pass up. :)

Heavy Harry |

Hi just a status check... last I had it we had 9800XP after the Grub fight, did I miss an update after the killer fish (where I almost got eaten) and the Boars?
Come to think of it, Harry is a 50/50 fighter...
Grubs - Fine!
Lurkers - Cactus
Boars - Fine!
Dragon - Cactus.
At least I know Ill be Fine next fight :p

In light of the above...

Let me do some maths over the weekend and see what we come up with...
....and to be fair, as Leylyn says it could be worse...
...its that tin pot Charles he's just rather difficult to put down and very deadly in melee, not helped by that annoying Leylyn and her hexes....
you are definitely a challenging group..
Each of you has 12040 XP after the dragonelle, from my initial calcs, 15000 required for next level.

Sorry about the absence...
...I can tell you what happens and push you into the next bit...but I'm trying to make it more interesting and fun...it's where being in a room would help...I have a bunch of random thoughts I want to put out there .. but I'm just not being disciplined enough ... that and the nipper being ill and me not feeling on top form ... I've been stopped ...
I will start again on Monday ... and try and add to the current sentence I've written ... suffice it to say you will be getting into the Inn next ... it's not really written into the module .. but I think you have business there ... it'll probably be a big anticlimax, but thats the way the cookie crumbles.
