This situation just turned interesting I wonder if this is DMDM's own plot device. Did not see that coming.

DMDM what do you think about the idea of Starfinder?

Some pics to help the mood. I know this was a cruise liner but scenery seems appropriate.

Intrigued, reserving judgment. Paizo has shown a lot of serious business acumen over the years, but the track record of game companies on introducing new "side" product lines is not terribly encouraging. Also, historically, SF RPGs have been a tougher sell -- and I say this as someone who played a lot of Traveller back in the "slim black paperbacks" days. Also, Starfinder doesn't strike me as a product that's going to bring in a lot of new gamers, so they run the risk of cannibalizing sales from their existing products.

That said, it's Paizo, so I expect high product quality and a mixture of wild creativity and meat-and-potatoes tabletop fun. Also, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Starfinder is actually a test bed for concepts and game mechanisms for PF 2.0. (It has to come someday.)

TLDR, will wait and see.

In case Dm responds to my post and I don't check again today, I'll leave a list of the questions Mrakala wants to ask if able to keep things moving:

1) Do they know what the flying creature could have been?
2) Some of our members have no recollections for years, do the three know how we came to be in the place?
3) Where are we? Ustalav?
4) Other than shapeshifting, are there any other horrors they have witnessed? Mrakala will warn them that some form of other-planar protean creature came through from a place called the Dreamlands and may reconstitute itself somewhere. He'll warn them that it possesses items and they already slew two of the creatures.
5) What lays down the corridor of blood and mud?
6) We heard one of them...or something...mention The Dreamer. Do you know what they could mean by this?
7) The one we slayed kept calling us dead-flesh, do you know why?

I don't actually know. Ghelik mentioned something about flying things to the crossbowmen.

Ghelik has referenced the flying horror twice...check previous post page :]!

Don't worry is probably something extremely horrific.

No...mine is +3.

I'm a +4 with longbow or thrown dagger.

(Ranger. Almost certainly going to be archery combat style.)

If you're within normal Sneak Attack range (30'), sure, absolutely.

Yep, as DM_DM said anything within 30' though Ghelik won't normally be a ranged Rogue.

I was going to offer you my light crossbow if you wanted it because Flying Things.

I have very little for offensive besides that though.

What can a Doppelgänger not mimic? Spells? Class features?

I am not sure if a password is litrally strong enough.

OOCly I'm pretty sure they can't emulate any class features or spells or anything like that. I'm not sure if we know that in game. DM?

You don't.

If they can read memories than they know what we know. It's still worth a try, because we don't know how deep they can read memories.

Dark Archive

Male Imperial Purebred Human 13 th level bard/9 th level nightlife empressario/epic level chocolate fiend

I literally am trying to wrap my head around this problem, for a Doppelgänger to read minds, that's a magic effect right? Could a Detect Magic catch that if it was cast before the mind reading?

M Human (Ustalavian) Ranger (infiltrator) 2 -- HP 13/16, AC 16, init +5, Per +8 Fort +5 Refl +6 Will +2, San 32/34, distracted (-4 CHA), sickened (-2 to all)

I ... don't think so. It's not greater arcane sight, it just tells you "there's a magic effect out there" the first round, without knowing what school or anything else about it -- and then the doppleganger's ESP trick would be over, and you wouldn't pick up any more information.

It might provide grounds for suspicion...

The nice thing about Message is that it is between two people. If Kyleen cast it on another party member, it would not transfer to a doppleganger.

I assume a Doppelgänger can't mimic carried equipment either, we can take a minute to remember what each of us has in our hands.

Also the PCs in that game were more, let's be polite and call it optimized.

I definitely miss Jax.

Didn't he pull a little bit of lovely cheese and take Leadership for a magic item Henchman, God Bless you sir.

Given the setup of that campaign -- evil PCs against the world -- I was fine with the PCs being a bit OP for their level, and pulling the occasional cheesy trick. Didn't stop them from getting chewed up and occasionally killed, so all was well.

Male Human Rogue (Swindler) 2 AC:14 HP 10/10 Perc:+5 Init: +3 F:+1 R:+5 W:+1 SAN: 37/40

Well this has a slightly different flavor for sure. Probably not going to be quite as much grandstanding going on since we are not trying to take over the world.

Just a few simple souls trying to make their way through some twisted, hell infused nightmare.

I was never one of the 5-10 post people per day. Usually 1-5 posts per day. Will likely be on the same level. Of course I might be posting more once some of my skills become more useful. Having a +6 on bluff doesn't really get you good chances to lie openly to people.

M Human (Ustalavian) Ranger (infiltrator) 2 -- HP 13/16, AC 16, init +5, Per +8 Fort +5 Refl +6 Will +2, San 32/34, distracted (-4 CHA), sickened (-2 to all)

A mere +6 on Bluff just means you have to make your lies plausible and tempting. Tell people what they want to hear. You have to work and set them up.

You could be Iago that way, if you wanted to be. ;)
