Sorry, everyone. Work is crushing me this last month. Svarog will attack with his bow - I'll try to get a post out this weekend, otherwise feel free to bot him.

Thanks for the guidance. I've also been hammered by work and family, and very short of time.

I'm flying out on vacation tomorrow night, and probably won't be posting until my return on Jan 2nd. Happy Holidays, all.

Likewise! See you in the new decade!

Svarog, is work still crushing you?

So, having just looked through the 0hp rules, can blue draw and attack with his weapon this round?

Not that it matters, since he missed, but Ferocity says they're still Staggered (like Jarrek was), so they can only do 1 Standard or Move action on their turn. He can drop his bow and draw his falchion as a Move action or he can attack as a Standard action (taking 1hp of damage), but without Quick Draw he can't do both.

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

Blue is only down 4HP.

Oh, I thought it was down to -4. D'oh!

If that were the case the other one would have a CON score approaching 30, which is a bit excessive for Part 1 of an AP.

I was going through the loot list again to update Kira's trove of throwin' stuff and noticed that there are 2 CLW potions from the Killin' Ground it looks like we never gave out. Jarrek currently has 1 CLW and 1 CMW; Haftor or Trianne, do you want those?

Also, there's a potion of Divine Favor. Haftor, do you want that?

I don't know if there's a mechanical answer to this question: can you use a sling to throw alchemical items with a better range increment than 10'?

Ulfen Transmuter 6 HP=40/41 AC: 12|12|10 - Fort: +4 | Ref: +4 | Will: +6 - Per: +3 Init: +2 CMD: 15 (17 v. Trip)

Trianne will happily take the CLW. She has no healing on hand at the moment.

I'll take the Divine Favor potion.

Svarog should drink the CMW potion. He's down 10, unless his profile is out-dated.

Just an FYI...the giant isn't the boss fight. The final part of Part 1 comes immediately after you defeat the giant, with no chance to rest up.

Now I'm intrigued by who (or what) the boss might be.

In reading the Chill Touch description again, a lot was still unclear. So I did a little digging and tracked down a Paizo forum post from James Jacobs describing it thusly:

James Jacob wrote:
Chill touch is a weird spell. The touch attacks it grants do not function as "held charges." They don't disappear if you cast another spell, and the spell is pretty vague on how long the effects last—in theory, you could cast the spell on a Tuesday and still have some touches left over on Friday, for example, as long as you haven't made more touches than your level. Re-casting the spell when you still have charges left doesn't add to the existing charges—it merely resets your total available touches to its maximum.

Certainly makes a mediocre spell a little more useful, but with no stated duration seems a wee bit broken too. Let me know how you’d like to rule on it, John, and I’ll amend my post if necessary.

Forum link for reference.

I'm helping to run a workshop this week, and it's been taking up more time and spoons than I thought it would. (Having the planning team chair tied up with something else didn't help.) I should be back to posting in a day or two.

ETA: I'm fine with that interpretation of the chill touch spell. It's not an earthshaker, but it might help.

Jarrek, remember that Kira had used all of her bombs before leveling, and when she leveled she gained only a single bomb. Also, was she healed up to full before the party entered the caves?

Ulfen Transmuter 6 HP=40/41 AC: 12|12|10 - Fort: +4 | Ref: +4 | Will: +6 - Per: +3 Init: +2 CMD: 15 (17 v. Trip)

Okay, went back through the posts and everyone was fully healed by the locals on Oct 31, after the Frum combat. Kira has not been tagged since, until this Skreed fight. She was just hit for -6 HP in Round 6 and is on fire.

I have no good frame of reference for Kira’s build and inventory, so don’t know where she stands with bomb availability, sorry! (Though I did find a Tanglefoot Bag and 2 Smokesticks I hadn't recorded on my sheet from that alchemical haul near the catapult.)

Also the CLW wand John asked about on Jul 19 was actually from the Drummer and had 15 charges left at that time, (not 10 from the previous wand, that’s empty). Three were used, so Haftor is currently carrying a Wand of CLW with 12 charges in it.

Nice! I thought there was only one wand, and it was tapped out.

Male Half-Orc Bard (Arcane Duelist)/Oracle (Lore) 6/1 [HP: 48/54 | AC:23 | T:14 | FF:19 | CMB:+10 | CMD:23 | Fort:+6 | Ref:+10 | Will:+7 | Init:+0 | Perc:+0 (Darkvision) | Spd 20]

OK, she's out of bombs but she has a bag full of throwin' stuff. Grenades are particularly fun stuff.

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

Jarrek, were you taking into account Kira's encumbrance? She's only got STR 8, she's wearing studded leather (#20) and carrying a light crossbow (#4), and a medium load (20' movement) is #27. The tangleburn bag alone (#5) is going to put her into medium, not to mention whatever else she's carrying--crossbow bolts, etc.

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

Svarog, my understanding of the Favored Defense feat is that you pick one of your previously-chosen favored enemies--you can't apply it to a favored enemy type that you don't already have as a favored enemy. I may be wrong, though--do you have some commentary supporting your interpretation?

ETA: That said, I'm good with revising the feat at your option every time you choose a new favored enemy (i.e., at 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter). So you currently have favored enemy (orc), and would have favored defense vs. orcs. At 5th level, if you pick favored enemy (giant), you can convert favored defense to apply vs. giants instead of orcs. At 10th level, you could swap what favored defense applies to again if you wanted. Only one favored enemy type at a time, though, unless you take the feat again.

Svarog:
Kellid ranger 5 HPs:42/44 - AC: 19*|13*|16 *+1 dodge vs orcs, +2 dodge v giants - Fort:+5 | Ref:+7 | Will:+3 - Per:+10 (+2/4 FE orcs/giants, +2 FT) Init:+3 (+2 FT) CMD:20 +1 v orcs
Nashtil:
snow owl griffon HPs:22/22 AC: 15/15/14 - Fort:+5 | Ref:+5 | Will:+1 - Per:+10, Init:+2

Ah, because it says "choose one of your favored enemy types," I interpreted it as "choose a type of enemy for it to apply to, and it applies to that enemy permanently." It didn't occur to me that I had to pick the same enemy as his current FE, so with the module being called Giantslayer, I chose giants. I can totally see what you mean, though, and it does make more sense. Also: argh, I could have been getting the dodge bonus to orcs all along?! LOL.

If you're willing to allow a revision of the feat when he gets a new favored enemy, that would be awesome. Thanks! I'll revise it to read orcs now.

No, sorry. I didn't even realize Kira's Strength had a penalty on it since she's not a Str person, never really even looked at her Str. How do you want to handle it, DM?

ETA: Jarrek's at -8hp after that last wolf bite. Man, I never realized trading Orc Ferocity for Sacred Tattoo was gonna bite me so often.

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

I think Kira's player wasn't tracking it either, and the only reason I thought of it myself was seeing how much the tangleburn bag weighed. It probably hasn't made a lot of difference; the only two things it affects are her movement rate and her max DEX bonus (+3).

Ulfen Transmuter 6 HP=40/41 AC: 12|12|10 - Fort: +4 | Ref: +4 | Will: +6 - Per: +3 Init: +2 CMD: 15 (17 v. Trip)

Considering that anything beyond her Studded Leather, Light Crossbow, and lightest clothing outfit possible puts her into Medium Load, I imagine she will always be Medium load or greater.

Quick glance at what is listed on her profile (understanding it's not current), carried weight looks around 39+, and her backpack stuff puts her into Heavy Load when she carries it. That's the biggest tracking factor, what's carried vs. stored and where she drops her pack when combat starts.

Male Half-Orc Bard (Arcane Duelist)/Oracle (Lore) 6/1 [HP: 48/54 | AC:23 | T:14 | FF:19 | CMB:+10 | CMD:23 | Fort:+6 | Ref:+10 | Will:+7 | Init:+0 | Perc:+0 (Darkvision) | Spd 20]

OK, so it looks like I can go ahead and have her attack again. Sadly, I'm assuming she will not be tagging along once we kill Skreed and this troll. She's been great this combat.

Unlike Jarrek, who is now down and hasn't done a hell of a lot. Good night, sweet prince.

The cause fear spell broke their formation, and if I hadn't rolled a 1 for duration would have let you attack Skreed in melee.

I'll try to whack everyone with the wonder wand in short order. Jarrek and Kira will be harder to get upright... :/

With the potential to bot semiconscious Haftor upcoming, any recommendations on what his Move action should be?

1. Crawl away from potential splash damage? (I love the notion of him crawling towards Skreed in smoking, fiery hatred.)
2. Retrieve his hammer? (Does he have another weapon?)
3. Stand up? (Though he's easier to hit if range targeted and will likely just crumple again.)

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

He could take a standard action to heal himself with the wand, or use a potion if one of you has one.

Ulfen Transmuter 6 HP=40/41 AC: 12|12|10 - Fort: +4 | Ref: +4 | Will: +6 - Per: +3 Init: +2 CMD: 15 (17 v. Trip)

I don't have a potion on hand, not sure anyone does. I'm all for the healing wand again, if you're okay with the fact that it's not currently in his possession. Trianne would certainly facilitate him using it however she could.

Male Half-Orc Bard (Arcane Duelist)/Oracle (Lore) 6/1 [HP: 48/54 | AC:23 | T:14 | FF:19 | CMB:+10 | CMD:23 | Fort:+6 | Ref:+10 | Will:+7 | Init:+0 | Perc:+0 (Darkvision) | Spd 20]

Thanks for the correction on Kira's HP, Trianne.

Kira and Jarrek are out of healing pots.

Honestly, if Trianne is planning on moving to Kira, instead of healing her it might be a better use of time to pull out one of her many grenades and chuck it at Skreed to put him down. She's on fire, so that would take a round to put out, and then another round to heal (and there's no guarantee 1 use of the wand would even get her to 0hp)- minimum of 2 rounds to get her stable. That's probably not in Trianne's character, but it might be a better option in the metagame.

Rise of the Runelords Pt2|RotRL Pt 3| Giantslayer|Emerald Spire| CORE Emerald Spire

So, you're done with Part 1: are you all interested in continuing? If so, do you want to change up your characters at all? I'd prefer that you not continue to play Kira as an NPC--do you want to recruit a fifth player?

If you do go on, just a reminder that your HP per level is (half your normal hit die) + d(half your normal hit die). That is, if you normally roll a d10 you get 5 + d5, etc.

If any of you are interested in getting PFS credit for Part 1, let me know the OP number of the character you want to apply the credit to.

I’m all for continuing with whatever number of players is recommended by the adventure path. I kind of envisioned Kira and Trianne opening a little alchemical/artificer shop/stand in Trunau, which Kira could stay behind to man and which would serve as the mechanical backdrop for Trianne’s item creation throughout. But whatever works!

That being said and if we continue, can we get an approximate amount of downtime anticipated before the next arc to plan scroll/item creation, spell transcription, etc?

I would also love to do some solid housekeeping on the loot list to get everything assigned, identified, converted, and/or removed so we have a good idea of the available funds as well. Happy to help there however I can!

I would definitely like to continue. Yeah, I figured Kira would not be continuing after this fight. Thankfully we had her along to lock down Skreed in this fight, though!

As far as recruiting a 5th, gameplay-wise I think we're fine with 4 players and a bard, a ranger, a warpriest, and a wizard should be fine to take on an AP. We just need to buy another or maybe 2 wands of CLW and/or maybe lesser restoration.

I'm debating whether to rebuild Jarrek, if that's alright, DM. I've been toying with recasting him as a Magus but I really need to do something about his terrible AC since he doesn't get Medium armor until 10th level. Falchion is good but he just keeps getting dropped in melee. Would rebuilding him be alright?
