Yep, but again, she's only known you folks a few days! XD First item is technically made with 'her share'. Second would have required additional funding. She'll be giving it to Svarog shortly here, but I don't want to rain on Seamus' intro. :)
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
I'm a bit distracted because I have family in the hospital - please assume Svarog introduces himself (and thanks Trianne!).
DM Carbide |
I hope that turns out well for them.
PbemDM |
Seconded on best wishes for Kris' family.
Haftor is going to sell his surplus stuff and donate the proceeds to the party treasury. He has a MW breastplate (350 gp), a MW warhammer (312 gp) and a heavy steel shield (20 gp). If I can get the standard value for them (50%), total proceeds would be 341 gp. Actually, 340 gp, since he'll top up his quiver of crossbow bolts while he's at it.
DM Carbide |
With 16 posts in the Gameplay thread, I'd like to have a chunk of uninterrupted time to read them all. That particular luxury has been lacking the past couple of days, but I hope to have some time tomorrow or Friday to catch up. Thanks for your patience.
Kris, how are things going with your family?
DM Carbide |
I'm likely to be scarce on the boards tomorrow--taking the day off and spending it with my wife for our anniversary. Not that we can do much, unfortunately.
Trianne Ashton |
So some questions:
Are we taking horses on a boat, into a swamp, and up into the mountains?
If we are, do we want an extra horse as backup and/or a hireling to come along as the watch-the-horses-while-we-investigate-this-forgotten-swamp-temple role?
Who's carrying the ghostlight lantern?
What season is it?
Jarrek Everstand |
I'm fine with this. Jarrek could carry a horse, if we wanted him to, with this belt. :D
We may need to get camping supplies, which I don't think we've discussed. Tents, extra rations, maybe bug repellent.
DM Carbide |
You're going to get the standard 50% resale, unfortunately--they'd love to give you more, but the town is currently short of cash.
Trianne Ashton |
Okay, so no horses by the looks of it. Certainly easier logistically.
Is Jarrek okay with carrying a large tent, 40 lbs? I know his carrying capacity can handle it, but is he willing to be the pack mule? :P Large tent sleeps four, assuming someone is always out on watch.
Jarrek Everstand |
Jarrek is perfectly happy to be the pack mule.
DM, do we have an estimate on how long we think we might be out in the wilderness? I'd want to have 1.5 times that much food and water for the party, just in case.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Thanks for your patience. Svarog will upgrade his bow to one that takes advantage of his strength.
DM Carbide |
Busy day at work, followed by computer issues and finding out that my mom tested positive for COVID-19. She's asymptomatic, but I'm still kind of freaked out. Tomorrow is my day off, as well, which means that I'll be afk most of the day. Will update as I can.
Kris, how is your family doing?
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Oh my gosh, that's terrible. Sending positive thoughts! Hopefully she'll recover without issues, since she's asymptomatic.
My father passed, which is why I've been out of the loop for so long. It was quite shocking, because he was in good health right up til the end. Those were some long and terrible weeks.
It has resulted in some upheavals in my situation, so I'll be moving sometime in the near future (sometime in the next few months, possibly january), once I sort my contract situation. I'll probably have some difficulty replying during that time as well, I'm sorry to say.
Thank you all for your patience and understanding. I'm trying to restore some order and normalcy now, which includes games. Limping along a bit, but getting there.
Jarrek Everstand |
That's terrible DM. Sorry to hear that, but hopefully she remains asymptomatic.
Just want to say one more time, I'm really sorry about your dad, Svarog.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Thanks, Jarrek. I really appreciate that.
DM Carbide |
I'm sorry about your dad, Kris. When my dad died twelve years ago, it wasn't much of a surprise--he'd been declining for months. When my brother died a couple of years ago, though, it was completely unexpected, and we were all shellshocked for quite some time afterwards. You're in my thoughts, and I hope things settle down for you.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Thank you for your kind words, DM.
DM Carbide |
Yeah. Unfortunately, my mom didn't make it--she died in her sleep Monday night after a blood pressure/blood oxygen crash that afternoon. She'd had vascular dementia for over six years and the mean survival time for that is five, so we had more time with her than I would've expected after she was diagnosed.
I'm mostly doing OK, though, in part because with the dementia I've essentially been saying goodbye to her for years. At least the core of her personality stayed intact--she was always cheerful, she wasn't bitter, and she always recognized us. Knowing how dementia can go, we were very, very lucky.
So I'll likely be a little distracted. Doing something other than brooding about it helps, though. With COVID we're not going to be able to have a real funeral for a while, so no opportunity for collective grieving. Phone calls and Facebook are a poor substitute, but it's what we have.
Trianne Ashton |
So sorry for your loss, John, and your positive outlook and appreciation for the elements at play are inspiring. I worked in a nursing home for several years and saw the worst and the best of what can transpire between resident and family members. It is never easy, and I wish more folks could celebrate the life lived in their grieving process.
The impact that the pandemic has had on society, running the gamut from isolated child development to the lack of closure for the families of the deceased, will have such lasting impressions for generations to come. I hope I live long enough to retrospectively see what a true watershed moment this was in history and to appreciate the strength drawn at a distance from shared communities.
Take all the time you need. The dice will be ready whenever you are.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
I'm very sorry for your loss, John. Losing a beloved family member is hard, no matter how much you do or don't expect it. I wish you time and peace to grieve, and I hope you can find solace in the good memories.
I'll join Trianne in saying that you should take what time you need to recover. Best wishes to you and your family.
Jarrek Everstand |
I'm so sorry to hear that. Like everyone else already said, take whatever time you need, we'll be here and we're all keeping you in our thoughts.
DM Carbide |
Boat map is up, at least in part. Unfortunately I lost my work access to Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Reader doesn't let you extract jpegs from pdfs.
Jarrek Everstand |
Hi, all! DM Carbide has given me permission to ask if anyone is interested in a new campaign I'm going to be running. I like to reach out to players I already know before I open up to general recruitment.
The campaign will be set in an existing Kingmaker kingdom but the PC party won't be the rulers of the land. Instead, the PCs will be adventurers and problem solvers hired by the NPC rulers to do missions as they come up. The game will deal with content from outside the Kingmaker AP but the setting will be based on a Kingmaker kingdom and near the land of Brevoy.
If you're interested in a new game, the brand new Discussion thread is open to talk about concepts. There's a ton of lore and background on the Obsidian Portal page, too, if you want to take a look at that.
The game is Level 6, 25 point buy.

Today is an important day for my sister, and I'll probably be unable to post until tomorrow. Feel free to bot Svarog if you don't want to wait - he'll shoot at the most wounded drake again.
DM Carbide |
Thanks for letting us know, and I hope you and your family are doing well.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Thank you! I hope yours is as well.
Let me extend that hope to all of you! :)
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Doing some Easter things today, but I'll try to get a post up later. If you don't want to wait, Svarog goes with the others in. Stealth mode!
Happy holiday, everyone!
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Stealth again: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 +2 hills/mts
Are we not able to walk on the beige area? I feel like it's a bad idea to climb over the bones.
DM Carbide |
Nah...momentum was hit by a combination of the holiday weekend, a bunch of home renovation projects, and my volunteering for a little side project at work. I was going to get something up last night, but ran out of time.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
I may be a bit busy the next few days, so please feel free to bot Svarog if necessary. He wants to get to where he can fire his bow with rapid shot at the creature.
DM Carbide |
Thanks for your patience; too much going on this weekend and at work.
DM Carbide |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I should be able to pick this up again in a day or two--I haven't forgotten about the game, just too much else happening.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
Just saw the post, but I've got to get to work. I'll get a post up after, or you can bot Svarog approaching the scene if you like.
Svarog Sky-Tamer |
I think Jarrek is slammed with work and life stuff atm.
DM Carbide |
Thanks for the update--I certainly know how that goes....
