DM-Camris' SAVAGE TIDE: Chapter 3, The Savage Kraken's Wake! (Inactive)

Game Master Camris

SECTION 5.3: THE SECRET OF THE THUNDERER
Bodyguards to Lady Vanderboren, our heroes have refurbished an old pirate ship just in time to embark on a fateful voyage south.
Trapped in an awakened Sargasso, they seek the heart of it to escape!
"With sloping masts and dipping prow,
As who pursued with yell and blow
Still treads the shadow of his foe,
And forward bends his head,
The ship drove fast, loud roared the blast,
The southward aye we fled."

-Coleridge "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner"

Dodging the two barriers of punji trenches, the rescue party makes its quiet way to the tree line, where they behold a horrifying sight.

TACTICAL OVERVIEW

You see many savage villagers crowded around a bonfire screaming at the top of their lungs in savage glee. On the far side you see a bamboo cage where the beaten crew and passengers of the Kraken are held. A wooden palanquin to either side hold what looks like the chief and his bodyguards on one side and the shaman and he acolytes on the other.

There is a screaming crewman being lowered by a couple of barbarians into a boiling cauldron front and center.
Over to your left a crewman strapped to a bamboo grating, being lightly cut and cut again slowly on the underside by a village woman. Screaming children run around underfoot lapping up the blood as it falls from the victim.
Over to the right, you can see several women being led from the cage to a bare area in front of the chief's palanquin. The Chief himself slowly stood up and allowed his feathered cloak to drop away, revealing his excited nakedness.

Perception DC20:
Wait, isn't that Annie amongst the women there?

And a little way off to the left a huge wicker statue of a bat winged long necked two headed thing looks on at it all. It gives you a serious chill as you come into view of it.

Knowledge:Religion DC20:
You know, that statue bears an uncanny resemblance to the Demon Prince, Demogorgon.

It looks like nobody has noticed you. What do you do now?

Kill them all!

At the sight before them, Ghirrak's body goes rigid with rage as he takes in the scene of utter savagery.

"Sunny with me, we get those women away from that bastard before he lays a hand on them! Bryson, You're our best chance against whatever their shaman has to throw against us. Devon, Burial back him up, you'll have to wade through a crowd of warriors to do it! Marius stop them from dropping that man in the pot." the monk growls, preparing to burst into action

And, correct me if I'm wrong but....

And looks to the big, ugly state.

"Here.... Why dun't we give 'em somat ta be lookin' at while we go about our doin's?" She points to the big, ugly thing. (Wicker statue on map in the South East corner)

"That, Be made out'a palm fronds an' stuff. Wouldn't there be a terrible shame if'n some careless bod were ta drop somat a'fire on't it, hey?" She grins mischievously. (^_^)

Don't worry Sunny, I got it for you:
Sunny dances out into the center. The Chief is so enthralled that he completely forgets about the other female captives, orders his warriors to stand down and sits to watch. The other male villagers are similarly enthralled. The female villagers are enraged and fly off into tirades against their male counterparts for paying too much attention to Sunny. The children are confused. During this distraction the rest of us easily free all the captives and make off for the boats. During the ensuing village-wide domestic dispute, Sunny slips off unnoticed and we all sail off happily ever after. :)

"I have the shaman!" Marius called, since plainly Bryson wasn't going to stick with the plan. So saying, he set about casting a rather destructive spell, so as to inflict maximum carnage upon the shaman and his followers. It might not take them all out of the fight, but it would certainly send them into disarray.

A small, brightly gleaming bead shot from his outstretched finger, flying above the crowd to detonate in a roiling mass of flame right above the acolytes' heads.

Things got rilly confusin' what wiff people's yellin' an' runnin' an' flyin' and shoutin' an' talkin' about stuffs.

So I kind of had tha' first post fer when we wus all sneakin' up, like. Then Mister Brysion gets all yellin' an' shoutin' and whooshin' about an' every one else says they's doin' all'a other stuffs, like a'spoldin' an' such....

Then Sunny will be tryin' ta' keep sneakin' around tha' folks ta get behind tha' t'other wymen folks with Ghirrak so's ta' be able ta' help 'em escapin' in't jungle headin' North, like. Sunny can't quite run as fast as Ghirrak but she'll be doin' her bestest ta' gets in't position. (^_^)

Ye has me in'a right kind a place I'd like ta' be, if'n I can be movin' there. If'n I be a tad lower down on account a puttin'a small fire on'a ugly ting, that'd be all okeys too. (^_^)

Hope all'a that helps some.

Male Human Wizard 8

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32

Well, he couldn't have the shaman getting back up again after his efforts to lay him low, Marius reflected, before regretfully cutting loose with his remaining highly destructive spell - a lightning bolt.

Distracted as they were, the tribesmen would likely be able to track this one back to him. Still, the loss of his anonymity was an acceptable price to pay for making sure the shaman stayed out of the fight, and the others seemed to have the warriors thoroughly occupied for the moment.

For good measure, just in case, Marius also sent another firework flying at the shaman.

Lightning bolt, cast along a line directly at the shaman, which ought to hit 5 people plus the shaman. DC 17 reflex saves for half damage.

Round 2_____________________

Bryson Deepwinter_____
After Annie joins the fray, Bryson changes into a tiger and moves to assist her.

'Sunny'_____
Move to M-3 and attempt to subdue the native there. They should be 'Flat footed' against Sunny's surprise, since they're looking the completely other way?

Despite her horrible luck, Sunny manages to down one of the quaking natives.

Devon_____
"Ghirrak, let me give you a hand with that one. Perhaps if he falls the rest will lose heart."
Taking a more defensive posture, Devon lays into the chief.
And with two terrific slashes, down goes the Chief!

Marius Hawk_____
Lightning bolt, cast along a line directly at the shaman, which ought to hit 5 people plus the shaman.
And six people dance crazily in the lightning strike (including the Shaman), then fall smoking to the ground.
Snapdragon fireworks,
Adding insult to injury, a snapdragon firework zips out to where the Shaman used to be trailing a shower of sparks, then explodes in a chrysanthemum of red, then blue sparklers.

Ghirrak Ironfist_____
His feet firmly rooted to the ground, Ghirrak becomes a living mountain of defense as he hammers away at the chieftain.

With the Chief already down, he swings at the bodyguards surrounding him with deceptively gentle strokes, and a guard falls with each touch.

Burian Faldaeral_____
With his cutlass held to defend blows from foes up in his face, Burian slashes at two nearby cannibals.
Burians hair slashes out, gutting one in a shower of blood, and going through to sever the leg of another.

Annie_____
Annie lashed out, but Missed.
