DM B's PFS GD5 PbP: Portent's Peril (Inactive)

Game Master Beckett

A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1–5. <1-2>
Even in an age where prophecy rarely comes true, many in Varisia hold the mysterious Harrow cards and their predictions in high esteem. The Pathfinder Society’s ally Zeeva Foxglove recently received a Harrow reading as repayment for her generosity, but a rare card appeared and portended imminent doom. Now that these terrible predictions are coming true, Zeeva realizes she cannot weather this storm alone. It’s up to the PCs to save this friend and philanthropist—perhaps by changing fate entirely.

Daze

This spell clouds the mind of a humanoid creature with 4 or fewer Hit Dice so that it takes no actions. Humanoids of 5 or more HD are not affected. A dazed subject is not stunned, so attackers get no special advantage against it. After a creature has been dazed by this spell, it is immune to the effects of this spell for 1 minute.

Dazed Condition: The creature is unable to act normally. A dazed creature can take no actions, but has no penalty to AC.

Hearing Corona's Plea, Auron reaches for the vial they found at Traitor's Mews, and looks over the crowd. A moment later, he mischievously winks at Corona, and girls the bottle toward the kneeling woman.
"Corona, Catch!"

Both Corona and the dog-riding Uldar manage to get much closer, each going after a different target. Corona sees that the Taldan woman seems to have been poisoned as she attempted to rip the magical threads from her mouth, and doesn't seem to be doing well, while Uldar tries to engage the assassin, but just can't seem to deliver a power blow with any accuracy with all the bystanders in the way. Calling on her innate magics, Auron tosses Corona a vial which lands softly in the priestess's hand.

Emma touches two fingers to her forehead while focusing her will against Goldtooth, cutting through her mental barriers and crushing her will for a moment, causing the synapses in her brain to misfire and leaving the assassin wobbling for just a moment as her body refuses to follow her minds commands.

Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Quete decides to try to fly around behind the woman, anticipating her further retreat while Uldar again moves further towards the battle.
In case you didn't see it on the map or earlier, you can try to roll a Diplomacy or Intimidate check to move at normal speed, but at this point, as there is an obvious display of violence, the crowd in the immediate area, (see the circle on the map) has began to move back, leaving that are normal terrain now.

Looking over the crowd, Auron sees the Quadiran woman waver, and his Normal jovial expression turns to malice.

"I shall sing songs of your deeds, vile woman. May Desna forever weep for your soul!"

Auron weaves together wisps of arcane energy, and directs it toward the Would-be Assassin

I need a Fortitude save from the Quadiran woman. DC 16 Negates. For the record, it is Blindness/Deafness with Blindness being the chosen option.

Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

I'm going to go ahead and call it there, as I can really only see one outcome at this point, and want to free up everyone for other games if needed.

Uldar and Korug , followed not long after by Auror doing so with magical means, lay the smack down hard on the assassin dressed as a Qadiran princess, slaying with relative ease as she struggles to regain the use of her body. Uldar thrusts his large spear into her shoulder while Korug has much more luck, leaving a massive gash down her chest. Suddenly her whole world goes black as powerful dark magic removes her sight.

It doesn't take much more to put her down, (lethally or not), while Corona manages to get the Taldan Lady restrained and the potion down her throat, relieving the worst of the deadly poison before it can take hold.

At first, some within the crowd look like they want to rush you, apprehending you until the guards come, but Zeeva steps up, hearing your tale and keeps the crowd calm. Once you have a chance to explain yourselves, they back off, and offer a bow, nod of the head, or other signal to acknowledge your good work. The Taldan Noblewoman, once the priests arrive to check her out and make sure there are no other issues, walks over to you, "I am Lady Qualstair, and I wanted to thank you personally. Zeeva tells me you are members of the Pathfinder Society, is this true?" Once you have a chance to respond, she continues "Many of your number hail from the Empire, and we have always had a good relationship. I am thankful for your assistance, and, I would like to offer you a trophy. It is customary in my lands for a knight to take a knee when a Lady offers such rewards, but I understand that this is not your custom." Anyone that wishes to take a knee may do so, as Lady Qualstair places an ornate necklace of some value around your neck. Those that do not, she instead simply hands it to you.

[spoiler=If you left Goldtooth alive, she is healed enough to be questioned, revealing her scheme, but a few more layers you had not learned. She tells you she was an instrument of someone named Madreki Gael. "Madreki Gael was an influential leader within the loose collection of crime families known as the Sczarni. Recently, Gael gambled and lost against his rival Guaril Karela, who allied with merchants from the prosperous nation of Qadira to create the Exchange faction of the Pathfinder Society. Betrayed and bankrupted, Gael has since sought revenge against both Pathfinders and Exchange members. Gael found me after I'd been ruined by Lady Quakstair, and recruited me to get revenge. I don't know where he is, or what else he has planned." Zeeva and the guards then take her away for further questioning, but it's not clear just how much they might be able to get from the woman.[/spoiler]

If Goldtooth is dead:
On her body you find a few notes that are enough evidence to back up your story, not that there was much doubt, but you also discover a name written, one that Goldtooth seemed to be working for or perhaps with. "Madreki Gael", and there is some indication that there is a deeper plot at work you know nothing about.

Afterwards, Zeeva joins you in looking through Goltooth's spoils, finding that her Harrow deck is missing the Yellow Emperor, the card that seems to have caused this entire ordeal. "perhaps it is for the best, as she is better off without it. It is, after all, a card of paradox. Of self-fulfilling prophecies. I'm glad it has moved on from here, and I want to thank you, and the Pathfinder Society for again saving the Green Market. I will not forget this."

And that's it folks. I've reported the game, and HERE are the Chronicle Sheets. Please let me know if there are any issues, and I can correct it. I'll leave this open for a few days as well, as I'd like to hear any criticism you may have, ways I can improve, or the like.

"Hello New Friend Lady Qualstair! I'm Corona; I'm glad we were able to save you," the young woman smiles happily as the noblewoman comes over to properly introduce herself. "Even if uh...things got a little crazy there," she adds with a small chuckle. When the lady offers each of them a trophy necklace the young woman happily takes a knee, finding the whole ceremony fascinating. "Thank you so much! I'll treasure it always."

Later on as they all stand with Zeeva and take account of Goldtooth's possessions, Corona gets an oddly sad look on her face. "I'm really happy that we were able to do so many good things here today, but now I'm a little sad to say goodbye to everyone. It was really nice to meet you New Friend Zeeva, and Quete, and everyone else. But I guess we'll all probably end up on different missions next time..."

Auron takes a deep bow to Lady Qualstair, and grins widely as he takes a knee in front of her.

"I would be Honored to accept your gratitude. Now if you don't mind, I hear there is a portion of my family that needs to be... brought back into line."

Auron walks off into the crowd, looking for the Varisian Caravan, so he can remind them where there loyalties lie.

Looking through Korvosa, Auron finds his way to a small Varisian harrow shop, and smiles to the shopkeep

"Hello Stranger, from a Stranger! I seem to have misplaced some of my harrow deck... Do you think you can help one of the family find some replacements?"

I like to think that he finds a troop of Varisians in a town of 5000 of more, and talks to the various members to restore the thrown Harrow Cards, and expended scrolls.
