Yuuwa reaches an edge of the wreckage, places her trident aboard and looks for a helping hand. Finding none, but noticing the posture of Origen and Jonagher, she realizes that something is amiss... She clambers up onto the deck and grasps her trident.
Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
I figure this would be round 3 or 4 by the time she is onboard.

*Edited for commentary: Oh yeah, she's an observant one...

Unplanned, but Yuuwa and Origen have convinced me....

Initiative Rolls:

    Origen 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
    Yuuwa 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
    Isandril 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
    Torden 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
    Jonagher 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
    Bran 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Initiative Results:

  • Origen [17]
  • Yuuwa [15]
  • Isandril [13]
  • Jonagher [11]
  • Torden [10]
  • ??? [10]
  • Bran [9]

Surprise Round
Origen waits for Jonagher to go first, which Jonagher does while dancing up the mast gracefully. Yuuwa is in the water, trying to decide to enter the lower hold of the boat, or wait for her companions to fish her out. Isandril makes it up on deck, and begins to get a rope out to fish both Torden and Yuuwa out of the water. Torden sputters as he checks himself for bruises and all manner of parasitic fish. Origen shouts as Jonagher's head snaps back, and a gash opens along his face. Jonagher's eyes clear as soon as the attack is over.

Don't know how else to imply that one...the attack happened, and then you "woke" up.

Round 1
Origen spots nothing amiss on the deck, other than his bleeding friend. He mutters for a moment, and his eyes glow as he scans for auras.

Origen, OOC:
It was in fact a haunt. I do not know if Detect Magic would pick it up, I personally think it would, with perhaps a faint necromantic aura...let me look it up and get back to you...if you know anything, please chime in.

Yuuwa clambers up onto the deck and grasps her trident.

Yuuwa:
We will say that it is a full round action to clamber up the side of the ship. You will arrive on deck at the beginning of your next turn.

Isandril, you are up.

You hear Bran call out from the shore, "Be on guard! I see movement!"

That seems reasonable to me, but either way is fine. By RAW, I won't be able to detect intensity or school till round 2 or 3 anyway. On round 1, I detect if there's any magic, which could easily be some of Jonagher's equipment.

Isandril draws his two short swords from their scabbards. Taking but a moment to decide, the elf calls out to Bran.

"Bran! Get up here! Jonagher is in trouble!"

Hearing Bran's call, however, he starts scanning the shore. "Movement? Where?"

Male Why's it always got to be that way? DM 14

Isandril draws his blades and shouts at Bran.

Standing aboard the Tattooed Lady, the rest of the group hear the moaning of the wind howling through the hold below, and strange bumps and creaks from the ship shifting in the storm waters.

Perception DC 15:
That's no wind! There is something in the hold below moaning, and those creaks! They are coming from the stairs! Something is coming!

Jonagher and then Torden and then it is my turn. I'll handle Bran for the moment.

Hearing the calls of the others over the wind and surf, Torden scrambles up the mast, more carefully this time.
"Haunted? Attacks? What's going on here?"
He moves close to Origen and studies the stairs as well.

Can everyone see the map? If so, please call out locations for where you move, or we can try to get eveyone added to the map so that you can edit yourselves...up to you.

According to your descriptions, I will suggest moves, and move the round forward accordingly.

  • Jonagher moves back from the stairs: starting in K13, moving back to K14
  • Torden moves closer to Origen to study the stairs: starting in P12, moving to L15
  • Yuuwa will be onbaord in P12 when she clambers aboard.

The answer is: yes.

Jonagher shouts and moves back from the stairs, as Torden moves closer to Origen and studies the stairwell.

The door to the stairs creeks one last time, the wind dies down for a moment, and for just a brief instance...there is no sound.

All of that changes in an instant, as lightning strikes just off the port bow. The thunder is deafening, and the wind surges and whips loose hair and clothing about. The sudden light illuminates the deck of the ship like high noon.

The door leading down shatters, being blown off it's hinges by some aggresive force on the inside, and two figures shamble out moaning a horrible moan.

They are both of average height, dressed in sailor's breeches and vests. The patches of skin that are intact are black and rotting, someplaces with mushrooms growing on them. Portions of bone stick out, and the things move forward with a certain inevitability.

One moves toward Isandril, the other towards Torden. As they come in, raised fists slamming down, another steps in view, and stares at Jonagher.

Both attacks succeed. Isandril and Torden, you certainly realize that these things are far stronger than they appear.

What Yuuwa knows of this scene::
Yuuwa, you hear the wind die down for a moment, then the sky brightens suddenly from a lightning strike...and the thunder is just behind it. It is very close, but perhaps on the other side of the ship. You hear that wind whistling again ut now it is more of a moan, but then here something wooden splinters and the sounds of combat from the deck above.

Bran shouts above the wind and combat,

"Three from the woods! Coming in fast!"

He looks back for a moment, seeing Isandril and Torden attack, and changes his stance, facing the trees. He sets his shoulders, and pulls his axe out in one hand, the longsword in the other.

Actions and Rolls feel free to look:
  • ? slam attack vs. Isandril 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
  • Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

  • ? slam attack vs. Torden 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
  • Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

  • Just a reminder, Knowledge rolls are considered reactions here to figure out what these are. K(religion) is probably most appropriate. And that knowledge checks may be tried untrained with the result not be able to go above 10.

    END OF ROUND 1
Isandril goes on the defensive, attacking and defending at the same time. He strike is pulled off as he blocks another jab from the creature in front of him.

    Round 2
Origen shuffles back onto the broken mast, and casts a spell quickly. The zombie, while lunging again for Torden, slips on the newly greased deck, and slams hard into the creaking wooden boards. Some cracks appear in the decking around it.

    Origen:
Thank you for the concentration check, that is fine.

Yuuwa clambers aboard, grabs her trident, and in a defensive posture, calls out to Gozreh. The wind whips around her, and suddenly rushes out in a burst of 30 feet, blasting the zombies with salt spray that smokes and sizzles when it hits their skin. All three zombies smoke and moan, writhing in the salt spray.

    Yuuwa:
WAY TO GO! You are, however, going to DESTROY my undead. :-( Also, do you have to have line of effect? Could your channeling affect something in the hold or the cabin for instance?

Jonagher slices quickly at the Zombie at his feet, cutting and separating several sections, until the dissected Zombie stops moving.

    Jonagher:
Good job! I assumed you did not want to enter the "Grease" spell area of effect, thus not gaining the flanking bonus, though to be honest, you clearly did not need it! One Zombie down!

Torden cusses at the Zombies, and limps closer to Origen.

    Torden:
  • Actually, I had you over near Origen, so, if you want to move back, how 'bout M16? Also, your shuffle, is only a 5' step in that case, care to take any other actions? You have a standard and move equivalent available.
  • Also, since your scored high enough on your check, go ahead and check out the Zombie entry in the bestiary for any information that I have not yet provided. Torden has A LOT of knowledge on these things. Feel free to use any information gained in game. Or, here is the Zombie.
  • The zombie from the door rushes towards Yuuwa, its skin still bubbling from the positive energy, and strikes out at her. It catches her on her shoulder as the other zombie strikes out at Isandril again. Missing horribly, and moaning loudly in frustration!

    Yuuwa:
Is you AC 10 currently? No shield, and no armor?

Bran steps forward, hurling his axe at the three oncoming foes, taking the middle on in the thigh. It is knocked off its feet, as Bran drops into a defensive stance, his blade held in a high guard above his head. The other two figures close with him, and one swipes out and connects, spraying the sand with blood, as Bran blocks the attack from the other one.

As Bran grunts, the doors to the cabin on deck blow open suddenly. A single figure stalks out, cutlass blade raised high, and a keening wail as it points its blade first at Jonagher, then at Yuuwa. Blue balefire burns in its eye sockets, and the skeleton opens its jaws and howls.

    ROUND 3
Origen casts again, and the zombie to Yuuwa's right stays on it's feet, but the other goes down hard, cracking the decking below it as it does so.

ORIGEN brings up a good point, I am counting the mast section on-board the ship like a low wall. It has rotted and deteriorated to the point that it can assist you staying behind it, but doesn't much block line of sight as there is really barely any left...compared to what it was originally.

Yuuwa focuses, and another blast of holy radiance flies from her position, washing over the undead and leaving smoking burns on the two zombies, and the skeleton wails as it is washed away like sand in the wind.

The skeleton's broken cutlass and and tarnished armor fall to the decking.

    Yuuwa:
  • I did not even get in ONE attack with my skeleton! GREAT JOB!
  • By the way, I didn't have you move because: 1)You did not give me a location, and 2)really any movement would have drawn at least 1 if not 2 AoO's.
  • Jonagher rushes around behind the zombie attacking Yuuwa, and slashes towards its spine. The slick decking causes the zombie to pitch forward just enough to avoid being severed in half.

    Jonagher:
Skeleton was CRUSHED by Yuuwa, so I had you move without provoking AoO to back-stab zombie 1, hope that is okay.

Torden heals himself and prepares to battle the zombies, drawing out his hammer.

The Zombies each swing out at the opponents in front of them. The zombie brings it's fist down hard on Yuuwa, and she slams back against the railing of the ship, blood dripping from her mouth. The other manages to land a blow on Isandril, the pain exploding from where the zombie hit him.

    Yuuwa:
You took enough damage to be at 0 HP, you are not unconscious, you are not prone. You are considered DISABLED. You may continue to take single move actions, but standard actions and so on will cause you to drop unconscious.

Bran blocks another blow from one of his attackers, but is tripped by the other as it comes in wrestling him to the ground. The other attacker previously knocked off its feet by Bran's axe, gets ups and moves quickly over to the grappling combatants.

Origen runs out along the mast, attempting to close with Bran to cast a spell. His balance is faulty for just a second and he slips from his precarious perch on the mast, and falls into the water. He tries to steady himself to cast, but slips below the waves leaving behind bubbles.

    Origen:
  • I would say that what you are in constitutes as rough water, as your are protected from the brunt of the storm by the ship. Also, as you are underwater, you need to start holding your breath, and the grease spell doesn't get cast, nor is it wasted.
  • I will go ahead and assume in your favor, thinking that Origen would be smart enough to not attempt it underwater.

Both Origen and Yuuwa go back into the water, a little less gracefully than planned, though no worse for wear. Both make it to shore with no damage suffered

    Origen:
As you get to the beach, you can spot the place where Bran was attacked. The tracks are easy to follow, and though chaotic, you do notice that the tracks left by those attackers seems oddly...normal. You have not studied tracking too much, but have seen a human footprint many times before. These are not different. They lead directly into the jungle, heading south.

The wind has settled into something constant, but not vicious, with a moderate rain behind it. The cooler winds accompanying this storm have cooled off the otherwise hot temperatures to create an environment that is more familiar to the group.

The waves continue to froth and churn out at sea, but closer to shore things are less chaotic.
