Amira hands the menu to Erin in order to see what Red wines they have. You can read the spoiler and react accordingly.
That's actually exactly what I was going to do as I started reading it. Amira isn't spectacular at lying (and is only mediocre at it thanks to Charisma, her new trait, and her Circlet), nor is it her style.
As she begins being dragged (which is easier than Kulik could possibly imagine,) Amira puts on a face that everyone who went inside should remember from their time with the OTHER Foxglove; "Brutes." The worst part is that it's sincerely true.
I care not what tier. Amira survived playing up in "In Wrath's Shadow"; she's INVINCIBLE. (Read: Lucky as Hell.)

My ironclad rule is that a play-up decision must be unanimous to fly. If Erin votes down, I do not have any desire to play up.
I share the four person table concerns, and IIRC Season 3 doesn't have a scale-down mechanic. (Of course it's also not Season 4, so there's that.)

DM Amazing Red |

Well I am of the mind of majority rules, and as far as I've seen, table size can have little to do with difficulty as evidenced by last mod. If you really object though, I will nerf the encounter back down to 5-6.
Amira: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Amistis: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Kulik: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Tanrov: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Thug 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Thug 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Erin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Init Order
Thug 1(Balcony)
Thug 2(Doorway)
Tanrov
Amistis
Kulik
Amira
Round 1
The thug(1) on the balcony leaps off, catching the chandelier and jabs at Kulik before sticking the landing.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Power Attack + Sneak Attack!: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 2 = 23
1d6 + 6 + 3d6 ⇒ (5) + 6 + (2, 3, 6) = 22
The thug(2) nearest to Erin will jab at her with his weapon as well, adopting a more defensive style of fighting.
Combat Expertise + Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 2 - 2 = 22
1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Both find their marks, though the second thug is surprised to find he is not able to strike at Erin's internal organs. Kulik's though are not so hidden.
Will put up map later tonight. Tanrov just texted me with his actions.
Tanrov's eyes widen as Erin is injured. He hefts his mighty hammer and moves in and swings it angrily.
Rage, Power Attack: 1d20 + 15 - 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 15 - 3 + 2 + 2 = 29
2d6 + 24 ⇒ (3, 3) + 24 = 30
He smashes the poor sod almost right off his feet.
The elf formerly known as Syrdathiel blinks at the sheer power displayed by the young Shoanti. "New plan. Get him! He casts a spell and his skin hardens like bark.
Move Action:Companion Bond- Tanrov. His two allies get half his favored enemy bonus against Tanrov for 1 round. Erin, Kulik, and Amira are up!

![]() |

While I do fear the Z's of the Easytown Express, I usually leave the decision to the lowest level (which is no longer me. Also, ignore the fact that I have almost half the health of those characters.) If a vote is required, I'd say up as I'd prefer the dosh. The only time I never ever EVER even pretend to think about playing up is a season 4.

![]() |

Unable to see the map, at work. Going to 5 foot if possible for flanks with Tanrov and full attack that guy that stabbed me. If 5 foot is not possible, 10 foot, provoking with mobility and take off the second attack.
Attack 1 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 (Flank)
Damage 1 1d6 + 3 + 3d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (6, 3, 6) = 19 (Flank)
Attack 2 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 (Flank)
Damage 2 1d6 + 1 + 3d6 ⇒ (5) + 1 + (3, 1, 1) = 11 (Flank)
Erin winces at the glancing cut, and swings both blades forward at the attacker.

![]() |

Playing up it is, then.
Swift action to activate Destruction Judgment.
Move action to draw greataxe.
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
damage: 1d12 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14
KULIK and friendsh make example out of YOU inshtead.

![]() |

"By the righteousness of Abadar, I bid thee to stand and right this wrongful transaction!"

DM Amazing Red |

Erin, you do have to provoke. Amira, swift spells don't provoke so you're okay.
End of round 1
Erin moves around the thug, provoking an opportunistic strike.
PA: 1d20 + 8 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 2 - 2 = 5
But he misses. Luckily for him, Erin also misses with his swing. Kulik draws his greataxe and brings it down on the thug in an effort to defend Amira, hitting his mark. The young Abadaran for her part gets out of dodge and moves to the center of the room, her spell protecting her from any parting swings. She then heals her party with the power of commerce. All healed for 25
Round 2
The thug near Kulik abandons his current target per orders and moves across the room.
AOO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
The half orc takes a swing and misses, obviously shocked by the bold and brash actions of his foe. The man ends up next to an angry Shoanti. His cohort steps out of the flank and into his own to strike at Tanrov.
Power Attack, Favored Enemy: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 + 2 - 2 = 24
Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 8 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + 8 + (1, 4, 3) = 20
He smiles as he spills his blood on the nice restaurant floor.
Tanrov is up, followed by Amistis.

![]() |

Tanrov cries out as the thug's rapier pierces his side but the pain quickly turns into fuel for the young shoanti's fury.
Continue Raging
Primary: 1d20 + 15 - 3 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 15 - 3 + 2 + 2 = 28

Damage: 2d6 + 24 ⇒ (4, 3) + 24 = 31
Starting with the injured one. Stepping to the side afterward to give Erin a flank.

DM Amazing Red |

Tanrov finishes what he started and outright kills the thug as his head is knocked clean off his body. The young Shoanti then turns around and bashes the other thug, the man's teeth flying out of his mouth.
"Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to send my men to their death. Oh well, I can always get more." Amistis ponders out loud before stepping forward and unleashing pain on Kulik.
Longsword + Favored Enemy: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (18) + 19 = 37
1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Longsword + Favored Enemy: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20

Shortsword + Favored Enemy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 Miss.
The elf's speed combined with his expert training turns his flurry of blades into the most painful six seconds of Kulik's life. Total of 40 damage
"So half orcs move and fight exactly the same way as humans do. Interesting."
Erin, Kulik, and Amira are up again.

![]() |

At an "at-work, on my phone" glance, I see 3 enemy pieces on the map. That's good; I can select up to 3 enemies out.
Seeing the blood fountain from the most recent murder in the Ivy District, Amira speaks up as she raises her Holy Symbol cufflinks. "Please try to keep at one alive, but don't get yourself killed in the process! There's no trial without a defendant!"
Channeled twice for 39 and drew my metamagic rod.

![]() |

Well, that hurt. LOL
KULIK howls in pain as the blades slash him, but he stands in place and snarls, And elf person talk like human...too much.
Swift action to activate Bane: elf on the greataxe.
attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 2 = 27
damage: 1d12 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 + (1, 3) = 18
Then move action to square directly north of Amira. This will provoke. KULIK has the orc ferocity racial trait so he can stay up for another 25 hp (at least this round).

![]() |

Hmm, that is is. Always thought it was a swift; My bad. Yeah, no metamagic rod drawing. But as for the damage negation, that's the efficiency of an Abadarian Heal Battery.

DM Amazing Red |

No big deal. Very efficient indeed.
"Ah, see? I've been missing this witty banter. Most of my enemy are just gurgle, gurgle and then fall over dead." Amistis twirls his longsword and jabs it at the fleeing half orc.
AOO, Favored Enemy, Longsword: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (18) + 19 = 37

Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5(Flank)
+3 AC from Offensive Defense
Erin digs one blade solidly into the back of the man attacking Tanrov.
"You should have kept running straight out that door you fool."

![]() |

Tanrov moves towards the last foe and lowers his hammer as he gathers momentum.
"You made a big mistake hurting my friends", the young shoanti growls.
Move forward into position and ready to charge.
Readied Rhino Charge: 1d20 + 15 - 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 15 - 3 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 28
Damage: 2d6 + 24 ⇒ (5, 5) + 24 = 34

DM Amazing Red |

Round 3 continued
Tanrov readies himself, his feet moving in place to gather momentum. Amistis obliges as he makes his way over to Tanrov, only to be interrupted as the Shoanti barrels into him and almost knocks him over the hammer hitting him in the stomach. The elf counter attacks with a slash of his own.
Favored Enemy: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (20) + 19 = 39
1d8 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Confirming: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21 Confirms against charging, raging AC yes?
1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
He uses Tanrov's momentum against him and leaves a deep gash in his chest.
"Finally a worthy adversary. I won't make the mistake of underestimating you."
All PCs up next.

![]() |

Yup.
Tanrov grunted as the rapier drove deep into a gap at his shoulder.
"You also talk too much!" he shouted as he whipped his giant hammer overhead for a pair of blows.
Continue to Rage

KULIK and Erin have done this dance before, methinks. :-)
The half-orc lets out a mighty roar and springs toward the elf. KULIK shtrike with fortune of Deshna!
Round 2 of Bane, continue Destruction Judgment.
Double diagonal left next to the imposter, and ready an action to attack once Erin moves into flank.
attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 2 = 29

"By my jurisdiction as a member of the Eyes of the City, surrender or forfeit your right to a fair trial!"

DM Amazing Red |

Tanrov's first strike finds its mark, but Amistis easily dodges the second. Kulik steps in the luck of Desna allows him to strike him. Erin tries to gain combat advantage, but her blade bounces off his tree-like skin. Amira's healing energies awaken the thug who sees his boss surrounded and promptly surrenders.
Round 4
Amistis just smiles. "My boy, you have to enjoy what you do. And I do." He throws his weapons down and puts his hands up. "I do not worry, I will be out soon enough."
Combat over!
The loot of note you will find on the bad guys.
+1 Longsword
Masterwork Shortsword
+2 Glamered Mithral Shirt
Sheath of Bladestealth
Potion of Blur(2)
+1 Arrows (20)
Necklace of Fireballs Type 2
+1 Studded Leather(2)
The exact moment that the Crowsworn surrender, the two local constabularies, the Ivy District Watch and the Brotherhood of Abadar arrive on the scene simultaneously. They start taking statements and getting eyewitness accounts. Sendeli comes up to your group from the kitchen where she was hiding. "I must thank you for stopping them. Though I doubt they'll be locked up for long, they will think twice before holding my customers hostage."

![]() |

"Well, that was convenient," she states as the men rush in. Amira sits down and begins writing an up a number of pages, listening in to all the conversation (particularly of those between the two constabularies.) After the short paperwork-oriented reprieve, she'll be present the written report, stamped in triplicate.

![]() |

"Apologies for insulting your establishment Sendeli, it was just a ploy to draw them out. On Cayden's word I will return for a taste of your wines as soon as we conclude this business."
Erin replies, while stepping away so the constabularies can do their job.

DM Amazing Red |

You just have to speak with a member of either group. If you wish to do so, I need a Knowledge(Local), Knowledge(Religion), or a Sense Motive check.
"I understand, though it still stings a little and my customers probably don't realize it was a ploy. It will be on the house, the first bottle anyway."

![]() |

** spoiler omitted **
"I understand, though it still stings a little and my customers probably don't realize it was a ploy. It will be on the house, the first bottle anyway."

![]() |

Before the authorities can drag the thugs away, Tanrov tries to speak to them.
"Who are you and what did you do with the real Syrdathiel", the young shoanti asks plainly. "How did you know this meeting was happening today?"
Tanrov makes it a point to clean his hammer in plain view of the prisoners, flicking bits of skull and brain-matter as he does.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

![]() |

The constabulary clearly make KULIK uncomfortable, so he goes about the restaurant checking on customers and righting tables and chairs until they have need to question him. He answers diligently, though his grunts are less personable to them than to those who know him. He also acknowledges the proprietor, but does not speak with her.
When the law officials are done, he asks the party, KULIK wonder why elf person pretend to be Shyrdathiel. To what end?

DM Amazing Red |

Pick one and roll. Your check tells you that the Brotherhood puts moral (good) behavior above and beyond preservation of the law and trade. This is an interesting spin on their core faith. Congrats! You got it.
"Name's Amistis of the Crowsworn. Our mistress has him. We did our due diligence and got the intel. So we slipped in here while some associates took the real Syrdathiel. The place is under the Glass Menagerie. Here's the key." He carefully reaches into a pocket and throws it to Tanrov.
Who is holding the loot BTW?

![]() |

Isn't the loot evidence? If that's the case, it should go with the guards (in Amira's opinion.) If it's not, Amira doesn't care who carries it as long as it's not her; that stuff is HEAVY.

![]() |

The sheath seems tailor-made for Erin. We could've used that last session. O.O
KULIK would be interested in the glamered mithral shirt +2, but not if Tanrov wants it. And he would certainly take the arrows.

![]() |

I'll be handling each to catalog them, if that matters. I won't be handling any of them for more than a minute, though.
"Context is a big definer of the word; as a slang term, it can mean a LOT of things." Amira notes. "As for the location of THIS menagerie, it's only a little farther into the city."

![]() |

Erin picks up the short sword and sheath and turns to Sendeli.
"I am sure with everything that just happened everyone will understand. I will spread the word at the next Cayden establishment I run across that your wine is half off, that should make up for any losses."
Turning to the rest of the group, Erin asks everyone.
"To the menagerie then?"
