At that size I'm thinking it could feed the camp for days :)

Marcus will wait a few moments to see if someone calls a retreat. If noone does, he will take a few steps forward placing himself between the crab and the rest of the group, banging his falcata hilt against his shield.

Yah! Yah! Come and get me ugly!

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Whilst roast crab legs sounds nice, living would be a better option, Chi is fairly useless against the crab so moving away and coming back when spelled up might be better.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:
Whos Gandel?

From his profile, it seems to be another of Max's characters.

Savarend eyes the crab, slowly lifting one eyebrow. The dwarf flexes his fingers in the heavy frame of the brass knuckles, leans his head to one side to pop his neck, then nods and grunts. "Let's dance, big boy. Tuwandaaaaa!" Savarend charges toward the crab.

Your Humble Narrator

It seems most of the menfolk are itching for blood, so with 3/6 inclined for combat i'll move things along.

Marcus fearlessly bashes his Falcata against his shield as the others in the group draw their weapon of choice.

Chi-1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Savarend- 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Giant Crab (no, not the Bestiary version sorry ;) )-1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Tun'ada- 24
Savarend- 21
Chi- 14
Gwenyth- 10

Round 1-Link

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Tun'ada moves in,to J27 tumbling to avoid any undue attacks from the crab, and strikes with his blade.

Acrobatics:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Attack:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Your Humble Narrator

No AOO attempted, clearly it doesn't have combat reflexes.

Tun'adas blade glances off the massively armoured carapace, just failing to penetrate it.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi moves forward until she is 25ft from the crab beast. As she moves, she speaks a few arcane words and moving her hands in a slow way creating a black sphere of negative energy. Once the ball has reached a critical mass, she points at the Giant Crab. The black energy streams from her hand, towards the crab.

Move to M,25
Ray touch attack1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Ray of Enfeeblement 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Str damage, DC=15 Fort save for half

Your Humble Narrator

Nice!

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

The crab resists the spell, its massive toughness allowing it to shrug off some of the effects. Nevertheless, it looks less formidable now...

3 str damage taken.

Female Human Oracle 4

Gwenyth takes a central position (N25), ensuring that her allies are all within the reach of the God's blessing, then calls upon their divine provenance.

guder ovenfor, gi oss din velsignelser i denne kampen for våre liv!

Celestial:
Gods above, grant us your blessings in this fight for our lives!

+1 to attack rolls and Saves against Fear effects - you know the drill.

Savarend charges forward, leaping into the air to strike the crab with his heel.

Attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Your Humble Narrator

8 damage total.

Savarend lands a powerful blow with his foot, resulting in a CRUNCH sound as the carapace on one of the pincers caves in from the force of the blow. Focusing its efforts on the Dwarf that wounded it, the injured vermin lashes out with tremendous strength despite Chi's magic.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Pincer 1 (misses)
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 Pincer 1 (hits)
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 CMB Grapple (success)
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Constrict Damage

Savarend dodges one pincer, but is hit brutally by the other- The crab grabs Savarend by the middle, pincer tearing into his flesh, and lifts the Dwarf off the beach while focusing even more strength into its grapple as it constricts the Dwarf. Savarend falls down onto the sands as the crab releases its grip.

Ouch... Ambroze and Marcus are up.

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Assuming reach I guess it has an AOO left

Marcus will delay until after Ambroze's acts.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:
Whos Gandel?

Sorry about that! The stress of Smugglers Shiv must be getting to Ambroze - his personality is beginning to splinter.

Ambroze begins shouting out advice for battling giant crabs as he moves forward, crossbow at the ready.

Move action to N-27; Standard action to begin Bardic Performance (Naturalist) to provide allies with +1 to attack rolls, AC, and saves.

Rounds of Bardic Performance used today: 1

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Seeing Savarend thrown brutally to the ground, Marcus rushes forward.

Ambroze's words should be distracting but instead Marcus feels infused with their power and that of Gwenyth's magic. He marvels at his new allies abilities.

He aims a blow at what he now sees as a break in the crab's shell bringing his shield around to meet the inevitable counter.

Move to J26.

Attack with falcata:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 (Bless, naturalist)

1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 (Whetstone)

Edit: AC is 21

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Round 2:

Frustrated by his inability to crack the beast's shell before, Tun'ada lashes out again, but once again fails to pierce the creature's armor.

Attack:1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 15 (bless, naturalist)
Damage:1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Current AC = 19

*sigh* So much for the gallant charger. Savarend is nearly dying in quite a few encounters lately. Currently at -4 hp.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Seeing Savarend lying motionless on the floor, Chi runs round to him, keeping clear of the menacing pinchers of the giant crab and will try and haul clear the injured dwarf, to a safe distance, where she can spend time trying to attend to his wounds, or so that Gwen may use her special healing powers.

I know this is more than a full round set of actions, so treat as you see fit Alex.

Your Humble Narrator

@Savarend- Poor gallant charger, still you inflicted a heavy wound on the crab...

@Chi- Actually i'm seeing your action as a move action and a drag (new CM) action, so fits easily into your turn. If Savarends not stable on your init count next turn i'll have you use heal.

Marcus moves carefully forward, shield up at the ready in case he is attacked. Sure enough, one of the pincers lashes out at his approach, and all of Marcus's agile moves, armour and shieldwork is not quite enough, even with Ambroze's advice. Marcus is hit hard on the way in, and much like Tun'ada's strike does not penetrate the carapace.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 Pincer (hit)
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

Chi moves into the fray and drags out Savarend to a slightly safer position.

The dice are not with you guys at all today it seems...

Round 2

Tun'ada- 24 (acted)
Savarend- 21 (stability roll needed (spoiler it please))
Chi- 14 (acted)
Gwenyth- 10
Giant Crab- 9
Marcus- 5
Ambroze- 4

Tragically, you and Tun'ada would both have hit if you'd followed Savarends all-in charge example :P.

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

I thought about it but I knew I was eating the AOO and figured I couldn't take a full attack if I got hit :)

Female Human Oracle 4

Good lord! I do not know cure moderate wounds yet, and won't for awhile! LOL! Stop getting owned, please.

Gwen kneels by Savarend, giving Chi a wink of thanks for pulling the Dwarf to safety. She places her hands on the most grevious of Savarend's wounds, and calls upon the Gods for healing.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Dear Paizo dice generator: I, a lowly Life oracle, cannot possibly keep my allies alive in the face of massive damage if you continue to give me two's and one's on all my Cure Light rolls. Love, Gwen.

Your Humble Narrator

As neither of the newest attackers has yet wounded the beast, it splits its two pincers between the two assailants, showing no sign of backing down.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 Pincer 1 (Tun'ada) (Hit)
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Damage
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 CMB (success)
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Damage

Tun'ada is attacked and is caught in the vice-like grip, the crab constricting him viciously. Its prey still struggling, the crab keeps its hold upon the tribesman.

As it may come up, i'll treat your claws as light weapons for the purpose of a grapple.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 Pincer 2 (Marcus) (Miss)
1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Damage

Marcus and Ambroze are up. Tun'ada is barely concious and Savarend is disabled (0HP).

Round Two:
Ambroze offers a quick prayer to Desna and casts a healing spell on Savarend. Then he rushes up behind Tun'ada and Marcus in preparation of using more healing magics on the warriors. All the while he continues to shout advice for battling the giant crab.

Free action to continue Bardic Performance (Naturalist).
Standard action to cast Cure Light Wounds on Savarend: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9.
Move action to square K-27.

Spells used today: 1 1st level (CLW)

Round Two

So much for the running plan.

Realising too late the creature may be too much for them, Marcus' thoughts turn to flight. The crab surges forward and it is all he can do to avoid just one of the lunging claws. He watches in horror as Tun'ada is grabbed.

Gods I don't want to die but I cannot leave him.

He pushes forward swinging the falcata like an axe down on to the crab's head, yelling wildly in an attempt to distract it from the tribesman.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 (Bless, naturalist)
1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 (Whetstone)

Edit: Woot!

Critical confirm 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 (Bless, naturalist)

1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Not sure if the whetstone +1 counts for crits.

Edit 2: Please let 20 hit

Your Humble Narrator

Yelling wildly, Marcus swings down at the crabs head, finding a soft spot in the carapace that he is just barely able to ram his blade through with tremendous force. The crab- and Marcus- look in disbelief as the mighty beast falters and collapses onto the surf.

AC was indeed 20... I daresay the group needed that crit! Between your 30 damage and Savarend's 8 you put it to -1...

200XP each.

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Seeing the giant crab, falter and fall under Marcus' mighty blow, Chi can't help herself and she jumps up, "It's down, Marcus, you killed it, whoopee! You've saved Tun'ada." She runs over quickly, gives marcus a little hug, before dragging Tun'ada back up the beach and close to Gwenyth so she can use her healing hands.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

A greatly injured, but none-the-less relieved Tun'ada drops to the ground.

"Thank you, Marcus. My life would have been forfeit if not for you."

Hell yeah we needed that crit!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Savarend reels back to consciousness, sucking in air and darting his eyes about. "Ah! What, what happened!? I charged that sodding crab and then... it gets a little fuzzy." He looks around at the party and nods, "But I suppose that we won, since this doesn't look like any sodding afterlife I've ever heard of. I need to keep track of how many times my name is half-written in the dead book."

Standing up, he limps over and inspects the crab. He reaches out and, almost lovingly, rubs the crab's carapace. "Mmmm, yes. Yes, my pretty. You will supply us with delicious, delicious crab meat for quite a while. What say we field dress it hear and hump the meat back to the camp in our packs?"

Female Elf Witch 3 (favoured) / Rogue 2 HPs 19/27

Chi, taking out her sickle, and helps Savarend, she uses it to remove the meat from the crab. As she does this, she wonders if there's anything else worth salvaging to use in making traps, potions or arrow heads? She mulls it over in her mind, 'No probably not the shell is hard, but difficult to manipulate and it doesn't seem to grind down well either. That will be for another day.'

Chi helps with the clear up operation and searches the beach for any other victims it might have had recently.

Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Packs and sacks full to the brim with crab meat, the castaways ensure they have no need to hunt for their food for a week.

That... That isn't human is it... Gelik asks nervously...

4:30PM, Day 11

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

To Tunáda earlier.

No thanks necessary friend. If you hadn't taken its attack I'd be sitting before the gods in their judgement right now. And without the others magic I would never have managed such a blow.

At the camp.

Marcus waggles an enormous claw end at Gelik.

Not human but the finest king crab. We may be stuck on this gods forsaken island but for at least one night we'll eat like royalty!

Stuff ourselves and heal up?

Female Human Oracle 4

Marcus, you seem to have inherited James' knack for timely crits. Many thanks, I was starting to smell bacon there for a second.

Gwen brings Savarend and Tun'ada to Jask.

Wise one, might you be able to heal these two? I'd rather save some of my power in case the group decides to go out again later today. You should have seen the size of this crab...

From the size of the packs you brought back, I have little doubt that it was indeed a ferocious beast. Fetch the newcomer for me as well, he was covered in blood...

1d6 ⇒ 6
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d6 ⇒ 3

Sasha looks a little put out as you drag back a weeks worth of food in less than a couple of hours.

Well, that makes me and my pet somewhat redundant for the time being... Would you like me to accompany you on your next outing?

Oh yes Marcus... You haven't met little Patrik have you? Come give him a stroke, he likes having his tummy rubbed... Sasha coos as she leads the vicious, bestial looking bird towards him.

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Marcus stares uneasily at the sharp talons and wicked teeth.

Um. Rub his belly you say. He looks a little paler.

Ah.. perhaps later. I think the others need me to stow the meat. Yes I need to help straight away.

Sasha pouts.

You'll visit us both later won't you though handsome... Patriks keen to meet the newest castaway, oh yes he is... Sasha says with a wicked grin, continuing to adore her pet.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

Once Marcus has moved away from Sasha, and come over with the rest of the exploration group, Tun'ada goes over to Marcus and speaks to the mercenary in a hushed tone.

"Seems that Sasha has taken a liking to you...don't mind her pet, she seems to keep the beast under control. Just be careful with her, she is a follower of the Red Mantis."

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Red Mantis! You mean the assassins! Gods she seems a bit ... odd but an assassin.

She is very pretty though... no .. no. Assassin!

I must have missed this when reading through the posts. What kind of animal does Sasha have?

Savarend helps roast the crab, eating an ungodly amount of meat. Other party members may be confused as to whether he is actually eating it or merely smearing it on his face and incidentally swallowing some. He passes out near the fire, his belly distended and one of the crab's claws held in his limp hands.

Chi helps in the cooking and preparation of the crab and its cooking. She and cat sit and enjoy the fruits of their spoils and talks with her friends as they eat.

Chi and cat will join any expedition for the rest of the day, over dinner she will ask if she can make any small/easy alchemical items she can make for anyone or will start to replenish the supply of arrows.

Your Humble Narrator

With Savarend sleeping in particular, I need to know if your done for the day or if your venturing out again. I also need to know where you plan on going- back along the coast and try for a bit further? Along the jungle trail? You still have three/four hours if you wanted to explore.

Male Mwangi (Caldaru) Human Ranger 3 (Shapeshifter) / Barbarian 2

With the resources we have expended today already, we may be best off to wait this one out until tomorrow.

Male Human Fighter 5 50/50 hp 4hp nonlethal

Looks like fast forward and back to the coast tomorrow. I assume we do watches in pairs with bows out.

She can't brew up potions yet.

Tanglefoot bag is difficult to make, only 25% chance to get the skill check to succeed and 55% chance I'll ruin the base items.

These items are the easiest for Chi to make, and has 65% change to succeed in creating, only 15% chance she'll ruin the ingredients.
DC 15—Caltrop Salve, Desalinator (Liquid), Desalinator (Powder), Hunting Scent, Leather Patch, Plant Killer, Rust Remover, Scent Breaker, Stain Remover, Vermin Repellent, Water Purifier, Acid

These she has a fair chance to make, or at least not ruin the ingredients, 40% chance to make, 16% chance to not ruin the ingredients.
DC 20—Body Dye, Bottled Lethargy, Contraceptive, Deicer, Deodorizer, Endurance Booster, Food Concentrate, Instant Ice, Liquid Courage, Scarring Salve, Smoke Bottle, Sure Grip, Weapon Oil, Alchemist's fire, Smokestick, or Tindertwig
