DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Perception: 1d20+0 Casimir tries to spot if Jerek is also wearing a silver amulet like the one Happs has.
If he's wearing one he is not wearing it openly like Happs is.
Vaysh heeds Casimir's words and moves to a relatively secure position near the cart before attempting another Sleep spell.
Again feel free to retcon etc. if you like Vaysh. The sleep spell will also use your move action next round to finish it.
Malthir brings his sword crashing down onto Happ's unwounded shoulder, cutting him deeply with the powerful blow. Happs is now terribly wounded, but still able to fight. In response he screams Get him! to his men, who quickly move to flank the Paladin; one cutting high and one cutting low in a cunning pincer move.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Crit confirm roll...
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Malthir manages to get his sword up at the last moment to deflect one of the short swords away from his eye and into his collarbone instead, while the other sword cutting low hamstrings him. Malthir staggers but barely remains standing, looking about as worse for wear as Happs now does.
Malthir I have you on 1HP after that.
Sir Edric's noble steed lashes out with a furious bite and hoove combination at the closest bandit flanking Malthir.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 13
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Crit confirm roll
1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The mighty beast's teeth sink into the bandit, and just after the horse finishes its bite it slams one of its hooves into the bandit with sickening force; he goes down with a cry of agony, falling into unconciousness.
Go Talia! Sir Edric, your up!

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Dang, Happs is a touch SOB, I was hoping for a 1st level pleeb...never underestimate your opponent. You are correct, 1HP and standing strong :) Let's hope that Edric can cut him down!
Remember your playing in my conversion, not the standard book version. In the book version he'd be down by now ;)

Malthir Al' Dagon |

A paladin can hope right :)? I expect to be hit by many "surprises". Malthir is brave but not foolish, this whole rushing into combat alone against 3 foes at first level wasn't his first choice of tactics, but sitting back and becoming a pin cushion wasn't an option. Lets hope that Edric can score a hit before the Paizo dice gods hit me with yet another 20!

Sir Edric Orlavsky |

As Oleg pulls Edric to his feet the knight turns to the man and smiles weakly. His throat still raw from the arrow wound he turns and in a raspy voice says;
Thank you sir, your kindness will not be forgotten.
Standing a little more steady his eyes narrow in on Happs.
Running towords the man Edric draws his sword, pointing the tip at the man and bellows;
We shall end this now, and you will pays 10 fold for all the pain you have cause!
Issues a Challenge
Edric's blade slices through the air.

Recovering from the Daze spell inflicted upon him by Vaysh, Jerek snarls at Casimir A dead man am I? It is you and your allies that shall die this day, and Jerek shall rise through the rank's of the Stag Lord's army... You will not ruin the nation he is destined to build!
Jerek stands his ground and slashes at Casimir with his short sword, seeking an opening in the duel. He fails to find any holes in Casimir's defences though, and ends up on the defensive.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Happs steps away from the melee once more and fires an arrow at Malthir with the expertise of a trained battlefield archer. Despite firing into a melee, Happ's expert aim is not hindered by the remaining bandit. Happs' face contorts in concentration as he takes the shot, and he is grimly silent as the odds seem to have turned against him.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
The shot seems sure to hit, but veers off upon encountering the glowing white light surrounding Malthir. Cursing his luck, Happs drops his bow and pulls out a fancy looking longsword.
Fenna's up.

Fenna Thistleswade |

Seeing Malthir's wounds, Fenna moves quickly across the courtyard around the cart, calling out as she moves, "Malthir, fall back and the blessings of The Last Azlanti can bolster you."
Already forming a prayer in her mind as she moves alongside Talia, she reaches out to touch the paladin. Move to the space south of Talia and ready to cast cure light wounds on Malthir, 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Edit: I think that if you split a full-round casting time over two rounds, it takes a standard action each round.

Ah, i've always ruled you can use a standard one move and your move the next to do the spell. If that isn't the RAW, we'll run it my way for now and run it correctly the next time your in combat.

Vaysh |

Staying with DM Alex’s action, just going through and relating it.
Vaysh reaches the bunkhouse wall and leans heavily against the building, using it to support her weight. Her wound has closed some thanks to Fenna’s healing magics, but her life blood still leaks from it. Vaysh’s head swims, as thoughts race through her mind. He stabbed me…I need to focus, they are relying on me, but why did he stab me!?
She takes a few moments to regulate her breathing, and once again her Celestial lullaby begins to issue forth.
Day is done, dusk is here, my dreamer do not fear.
Her motions and words seem less precise than in the past, but she fights hard to keep going. By Iomedae, Sir Orlavsky still lives, I believed that he was surely dead after such a shot. Thanks be to the Inheritor, and to Mister Leveton’s quick thinking.

Casimir |

Action round 4
Casimir listens to Jerek's snarled remarks without reply. Instead, he observes the wounded man, countering, parrying, shifting his footing in a slow dance.
Keep talking, Jerek. I'm better at this dance, and your wound is worse than mine. Keep talking. Keep dancing. Find the rhythm.
One..two....three
Yes. Your blade becomes heavy. Your mind starts to let go, and you body takes over. Let it. Find the rhythm.

Damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
As Jereks eyes go wide, Casimir reaches out with his left arm and pulls the bandit close, so they stand for a moment in a deadly embrace. Casimir leans in close, speaking to the dying man in a low, even voice.
Do you feel that, Jerek? That is your black soul, leaving your body. Does your Stag Lord reward fallen soldiers? If so, I'd say you have just earned a promotion.
Casimir twists the blade, and slides it out of Jerek's body.
Promise kept, he whispers softly.
Casimir stands for a brief moment to contemplate his first kill, then moves diagonally towards the stable to help his comrades finish off the remaining enemies.

Oleg AKA DM AK |

Well done everyone, that was a nasty fight! 183XP for everyone.
Oleg rushes over to Vaysh, embracing her.
Vaysh my child, you and your companions could have died! he exclaims, hugging her tightly in a bear hug.
Although I am most grateful to all of you... Vaysh could you make introductions?
SVETLANA!!! It's safe now, come meet our saviours! the man shouts towards the largest building.
Oleg gestures towards the benches. Please, all of you have a seat once you have dealt with these miscreants; you must be exhausted.

Malthir Al' Dagon |

Malthir accepts the healing from Fenna. It is strange, the magic that heals me feels like a sudden knitting instead of the soft healing call of holy healing, interesting, it this what Aroden's touch feels like? Thank you Fenna, again you have helped us from the brink with your gifts from Aroden's memory.
Now what to do about these scum? Oleg, before these two awaken, who are they and what were they doing here? I am sorry for skipping the greetings but we must act quickly!
He points to Happs That one though has been judged by Iomedae as guilty under her light as Evil in soul and in deed and he will not live out the day!

Vaysh |

Vaysh smiles at Oleg holding him weakly with her right arm while her left hand goes to the wound in her belly. Mister Leveton, she says with a nod. Allow me but a quick comfort of a seat, and I shall introduce us all, she continues while moving to the tables and benches. As she slumps into the bench her hand glows brightly with radiance and a small discharge dissipates the energy into her stomach wound. Mister Leveton, are these men brigands that are here to steal from you? I heard you call Missus Leveton from hiding. Were they expected?
Vaysh’s color begins returning slowly to her face, and she looks up at Oleg with a more sincere smile. I thank you for your quick offer of hospitality, I am afraid, Mister Leveton, had you not already offered your comforting benches I would have been forward in taking them. She begins gesturing to each of her companions in turn, I believe you already have familiarity with Sir Edric Orlavsky, Knight of Eagle Watch, and his powerful steed Talia. Our company’s stalwart bastion is Mister Malthir Al’Dagon, a holy knight of Iomedae, Lady of Valor. Our greatly talented healer is Miss Fenna Thistleswade, and finally Casimir Bodevski is a student of the Aldori Dueling Academy in Restov.
Vaysh looks to the slumbering heap of bodies, They will not be so for long. We should tie them, and mayhaps I have something that can help. The beautiful woman stands, more strength is clearly in her body now than before she availed herself of the benches. Vaysh looks to her group and asks, Which of these brigands would you like to speak with?
Vaysh moves her hands and arms in a pattern as she speaks in a comforting tone,
Hear my words, you shall not come to harm.
Her incantation finished, Vaysh looks over at the slumped frame of Jerek, I do not understand his desire to strike against me, we acted in his aid and to repay us he sought to kill me. Does this place not understand the value of the spoken word?
Well, enough of my silly thoughts. Mayhaps I may be of assistance in closing some wounds among our company, I have the healer’s gift for those who welcome Iomedae’s love into their hearts, she stops for a moment, looks at Sir Edric and says, You are the favored son of some fortune Sir Knight, I dared not believe that you could live through such a wound as you received. This evening I shall pray and thank both my Lady and all those she calls friends for whatever intervention they have done this day.
Heavenly Fire 1d4 ⇒ 3

Casimir |

Casimir quickly moves to the two sleeping bandits, relieving them of their weapons.
Quickly, rope - or even better, manacles, if you happen to have some about, Oleg.
Turning to Sir Edric, he looks the large knight up and down and says:
I'm glad to see you on your feet again, Sir Knight. When I saw that arrow pierce your throat, I thought your soul had gone to Pharasma for certain.
Speaking of The Lady of Graves, I fear I have robbed you of the chance to keep your word. I hope you can forgive me.
Casimir nods towards the slumped form of Jerek's body.
Scanning the rest of the courtyard, Casimir takes stock of the condition of his remaining companions.
And the rest of you...are everyone all right?

Malthir Al' Dagon |

Happs will be the most useful as their leader, Malthir strides over to Vaysh putting away his sword and going to his knees so he can look her in the eye, but know Vaysh, that he is a truly evil soul, beyond the redemption you seek for some. Dependent upon his true crimes, which now include trying to murder us, his sentence seems clear. He will die for them.
standing to walk over to Happs to stand above him.
But he would be the most logical choice for it the magic though. What if he resists? Should we convince him to accept the magic? He is useless to us as a prisoner and I will not be a party to torture...
The glowing aura around Malthir slowly fades away, leaving Malthir looking a little more haggard. I felt my ladies kiss, it felt like there was nothing he could do to hurt me...I was taught to call upon her aid in times of dire need against evil foes, but to truly feel it in battle is another thing...lets do what must be done...Casimir, Vaysh
Will wait for concurrence from the others before carrying out our plan. I will try to assist in the intimidation check for Casimir.
intimidate1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Casimir |

Casimir moves to stand by Malthir and Vaysh, eyeing the prisoners, his bloody blade still in his hands.
The terms of our charter are clear. Any bandit who does not repent is to be put to sword or rope. I could probably shake his resolve a little again, before you cast your spell. That will increase our chances of your magic working on him. But if he resists, I say so be it. Like Jerek, he has chosen his own destiny, and I have no qualms of helping him reach it. If he will not talk, his death may serve to encourage his unfortunate companion to do so.
When both bandits are securely bound, Casimir looks at himself, as if only now realizing what a grim appearance he makes, with the front of his armor completely covered with Jerek's blood.
Fenna, I seem to have made a bit of a mess of myself. Your assistance would be much appreciated

Oleg AKA DM AK |

Mister Leveton, are these men brigands that are here to steal from you? I heard you call Missus Leveton from hiding. Were they expected?
They were here for their regular tribute my dear... They came a few months ago originally, about a dozen of these miscreants; led by a sinister woman called Kressle. Happs deferred to her, and she also wore one of those silver amulets Happs wears.
They have got used to our compliance by now though, so they have been sending fewer and fewer men. Happs was the second-in-command of their little band I believe.
Oleg quickly fetches some rope and binds both of the sleeping men.
That should do for now.
I believe you already have familiarity with Sir Edric Orlavsky, Knight of Eagle Watch, and his powerful steed Talia.
As Vaysh is introducing her companions, a young and pretty woman in her mid-twenties comes out of the large building and embraces Oleg in a fierce hold. The couple stand together for a moment, their touch lingering as they listen to the introductions.
Quite the band of heroes... Oleg says softly. We are forever in your debt, great warriors. Svetlana; perhaps something special for dinner tonight- and some of that fine vintage i've been keeping hidden hmm?
Of course dear... Svetlana replies, kissing the older man softly on his cheek. I am honoured to meet you all the younger woman says, smiling and curtseying, before entering the large building once more.
Oleg nods in approval as you mention the sword and rope.
Aye, and with your permission i'd like to hang these bandits on the walls of my trading post as a warning to others... But what is this charter you speak of? Vaysh, what have you gotten yourself into dear heart?
Happs and the remaining bandit groan and wake up. Seeing their predicament, both of them sit quietly, brooding and awaiting their fate.

Casimir |

I'm off to bed soon. Here are some of the actions Casimir takes during the next couple of hours. Alex takes additional actions as needed. I'll follow up with more RP tomorrow.

Fenna Thistleswade |

"A pleasure to meet you," the gnomish woman says, with a shallow curtsy to their hosts upon her introduction, then proceeds to nod along to Casimir's sentiments regarding the bandits, "I agree, their punishment is made quite clear by our charter... once we have learnt all we can from them they should hang."
At The duelist's request to be cleaned up, Fenna gives his bloody countenance an appraising glance, before shaking her head, "perhaps we should leave you this way until our prisoners have had a chance to see you, to remind them what you are capable of."
Once the bandits are properly secured, she moves over to Sir Edric to look him over with concerned eyes. "Your neck, how bad is it?" she asks the knight, "I don't think I can do much to help you, I fear that I have already exerted myself beyond what I am accustomed to... perhaps later this evening I will be prepared once more to channel Aroden's gifts." (Alex: I'm guessing that oracles pray at a set time of day to renew their spells like clerics do, I think that when Aroden's Eye first becomes visible would be a sensible time, do you agree? Edit: I guess another interpretation is that the slots refresh upon waking each morning.)

We'll say when Aroden's Eye becomes visible; so roughly 8PM each evening sounds good. Sometimes it will benefit you, and other times it will be a hindrance, same as preparing spells in the morning.

Why not just take a 10 on intimidate since we are not in combat?
Malthir walks over to Edric, Good to know you can take a punch my friend, that one will leave a mark. I see that scar as a sign of character smiling at the big knight.
Oleg, we owe you the life of one of our compatriots, you have already paid us back for any debt you feel towards us by saving his life through your quick actions and whatever magic you had to bring him back from so close to death! Lets find out what what this Happs fellow knows before we go stringing anyone up.
Lets see if the charm works after he is demoralized....

Oleg AKA DM AK |

Oleg, we owe you the life of one of our compatriots, you have already paid us back for any debt you feel towards us by saving his life through your quick actions and whatever magic you had to bring him back from so close to death! Lets find out what what this Happs fellow knows before we go stringing anyone up.
Oleg smiles.
No magic my friend, merely a potion I had been keeping back in case of emergencies.
Oleg gestures to Happs and the other man.
Do what you will here; i'll go help Svetlana make dinner for you all it's the least we can do. Later, i'll give you the tour of the place; it's not much but its home.
Assuming Vaysh does indeed charm person...
His face visibly straining from the effort, Happs attempts to resist the magic... but eventually his willpower fails and his head sags as the enchantment flows through him.
Addressing Vaysh, Happs says-
My lady... I feel great shame for attacking you and your friends- how can I repent for my sins?
Can't stop thinking about Confessor's from Terry Goodkind's books now...

Vaysh |

I am, Vaysh pauses to consider her next word, recovering. Thank you for your concern, Casimir.
Vaysh waves to the other young woman and introduces both Oleg and Svetlana to her company, While I am certain that all of you have guessed it, this is Mister Oleg Leveton and his wife, Missus Svetlana Leveton.
Vaysh looks to Malthir as he kneels in front of her, I trust you to tell me that he is evil, but we should not avoid the hope of redemption for him. No matter what happens here, I will pray for those who have died, so that they may be be judged by Pharasma with leniency. I hope that we can offer leniency to the deserving as well. As Casimir speaks of repentance, Vaysh nods, I do not wish to take the fool’s note from one of quick tongue, but instead to find those who truly would wish to change their ways. I do not shirk the charter that has been bestowed upon us, but hope that we may find some who are deserving of our kindness.
At Malthir’s mention of torture, Vaysh pales a bit. I too would have no desire to be party to such an atrocity. Use of such a tactic would make us little different from Jerek, incapable of using words to communicate differences and instead resorting to threats and pain.
Vaysh notices the change in Malthir, and takes note the fading aura, Truly, Malthir is blessed. It is amazing the variety of ability between the five of us.
Vaysh’s glance returns to Oleg, I would like to speak to you of what I have gotten myself involved with a bit later, but we are here on behalf of the Swordlords to drive out the bandit problems that plague the Stolen Lands. We are but one chartered company; I know that others were sent to other areas.
Vaysh finishes her incantation; hearing Happs reply she smiles, and glances over to Fenna remembering the gnome’s earlier comment. She looks upon Happs, and kindness washes out of her face, Remember what he has done, show him no undo kindness until he has earned such. Jerek may have been the hand that plunged the blade into me, but he intended to kill my company with no provocation. Before my magic, words of kindness were beyond his control, I must steel my heart in preparation for the likely outcome of this.
Our company has come to these lands to address the plague that you and your ilk bring. Banditry is rampant throughout these lands. This has made it increasingly difficult for honest and good fellows to eek out their living. You have menaced, oppressed, cheated, and robbed your way into the bonds you now find yourself in. Do you feel any remorse in your heart for the crimes that you have committed before this day? Vaysh looks upon him, her teal eyes awaiting his reply.
You threatened myself, my companions, and treated Mister Leveton with no kindness. While making your false threats you have invoked the name of your lord, the Stag Lord. Tell me of him, and why you have chosen to serve him.
These last few are questions I want answered that I can think of, but would be going on over time. Figured I would get them out there and see what we get back from Happs.
Vaysh asks Happs after he has finished answering her, Will you tell me of your camp, where it is and how many are in your company? What are the ways of approach and the pitfalls and traps that I should watch out for when traveling there. Does the Stag Lord rest at this camp? Would you tell me of the Stag Lord’s camp, where it is and how many there are? How should I approach his camp and what pitfalls and traps are there that would snare my feet or otherwise hinder my approach?
Haha, as for the Confessor, my wife and I have been watching LotS on NetFlix lately. So I have been very much thinking of that at times. The way that you just put it fits completely with that.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

I feel no remorse for anything except putting you in danger my lady. Life here is hard and unforgiving, and only those with the strength to take what they want can survive.
The Stag Lord my lady? I've never met him... But Kressle told us we all work for him now, and made me one of his leutenant's by giving me the Silver Amulet. I've never seen him, but we send a proportion of our earnings south once a month or so; Kressle handles the details. As for why I serve him... well i've heard enough stories about those who indulge in banditry without paying him his due. They say he relishes torture...
My camp... Yes of course. There's about a dozen of us total, it varies from time to time and folk come and go. It's about a days travel southwest of here in the forest; just travel southwest until you find the river and look for the ford to cross it. The camp is just a little further south than the ford.
Theres a couple of watchtowers, and the camp is set in a small clearing. Forest surrounds the camp except for on the west side, where a trail leads up to the camp. Both the north side and the western trail are always being watched for trouble. If the camp's ready for trouble, Kressle will recall any hunters and bandits in the area to her and prepare defences- mostly posting many men in the watchtower and cutting off the trail with a large log. Under normal circumstances, there are usually about 6 or 7 in the camp.
As for the Stag Lord, all I know is he's further south in the Greenbelt somewhere.
Please, don't risk your life by going after him. It's said he's a demonic entity of the forest given flesh; and that the Stag Helm he wears is a conduit between him and his dark, Fey masters.

Oleg AKA DM AK |

Oleg returns during your questioning, carrying a small tray of glasses filled with fine wine and offers one to each of you. He then declares that as long as you are in the Greenbelt, you are always welcome to stay free of charge at his trading post. He also gives the group a small sack, as thanks for saving his home. Inside the sack are 60 gold pieces, a labelled potion of cure light wounds, and a labelled potion of shield of faith. As Vaysh is busy taking to Happs, he gives the sack to Malthir.
Edric, how about I give that fine steed of yours a complementary rub-down and some fine hay? The beast took a chunk out of Happs and killed a bandit single-handedly; I think these deeds have earnt you some pampering aye Talia? Oleg asks with a grin, patting the horse affectionately.
Also, if you are planning to be in the area long; I do have some stock and some trading capital if you need to buy and sell especially as the bandit's didn't take my stock this month. I'm the only trader in the area, and i'll give you a good price. If i don't have what your after, I can always get it from Restov in a few day's.
Oleg scratches his balding head before continuing.
Plenty of local hunters, trappers and hermits frequent my trading post in the evenings. You'll hear a lot about the Greenbelt from these folk, and most are friendly and a bit gruff.

Malthir Al' Dagon |

Things that Malthir wispers for Vaysh to ask Happs for:
1. Sketch a map of the bandit camp and the position of the watchtowers and the camp.
2. More detail about the other bandits in the camp as well as Kressle. Details are ones like how are the armored, what weapons do they normally fight with?
3. Are there any other bandit camps in the north area of the greenbelt?
4. What will happen if you don't return today or tomorrow, will they be on alert and start looking for you?
5. Is Kressle always at the camp or does she sometimes leave for a few days at a time? Was she at the camp when you left? When was that? Was she planning to leave anytime soon?
5. Do you know of any other specific dangers or dangerous creatures in this area of the Greenbelt you can warn us of?
That is all I can think of right now.
To Vaysh: Evil hearts, those are the hardest to redeem, as Happs here has told us, these men want no redemption, I hope we will find those that do, I will be the first to offer them a chance to right their wrongs as all of us did when we asked them to drop their weapons, I would like to see a day when we could see no more killing...
To the group, his voice slowly rising with each uttered sentence: Ah the charter. I don't think we should interpret it literally by anymeans. It is a charter, given to us by men that hold no sway over this land. So in reality it means little except in Brevoy. We must relay upon our good judgement to enforce the laws of right and wrong, what is just vs. what is evil. Today we helped some folk, although one turned out to be a traitor, and I would do it again. Today we defeated evil men, taking from those who can ill afford it. Today we have struck a blow for the Greenbelt and all those who live within it!
His tirade over he wearily walks over to the table and bench and finally takes a load off, trying to let the intensity of the last few hours ooze out of him. I don't want them to think me hard, but we must be hard to walk the path that is before us...

Malthir Al' Dagon |

Malthir takes the offered bag and glass of wine when something occurs to him. Did we see backpacks on all of the bandits? Can we get an inventory of their equipment?
Thank you Oleg, your offers are most kind, though unnecessary. We would have helped you and continued to help you without anything given. Tasting the wine yes most kind

Vaysh |

Vaysh listens to his statement of no remorse and lets out a small sigh, Malthir is right, there is no desire for a different way from this one. I cannot judge what has brought him to this point, I can only look to the future. It is grim for him, mayhaps Pharasma will show him kindness he has been incapable of showing in this life.
When Happs is done, Vaysh turns her attention to Malthir and her other comrades, seeking their council in what else to ask. She nods ascent to the questions that Malthir wishes her to bring up with the lieutenant, and asks Happs the following as she listens to his answers.
Your comrades that are back at camp, how long is it until they expect your return? What will happen when you do not return to them?
Are they similarly armed and armored to your band of failed raiders? Do any of them other than Kressle stand out from those that we fought here today?
I would like to hear more of Kressle, as a leader, a person, and a fighter, would you tell me this? Does Kressle manage your bandit troop from camp, or leave to guide you in the field? When was the last time that Kressle left your camp? Do you know when Kressle will next leave camp?
Happs, do you know of other camps that bandits use? Please, tell me what you know of them.
What dangers do these lands hold? Are there areas that you and your men avoid? Why?
Did you know that man, Vaysh gestures to the corpse of Jerek. Tell me of him. He wished to kill me, but was only brave enough to do so when he felt that we were outnumbered.
I have a book, were I to unbind your hands and give you pen, would you draw me a map of both your camp and the way to it?
Not doing anything with Oleg, figure I am pretty busy talking to Happs for a while. I will record the treasure that we just received.

Vaysh |

Vaysh listens to Malthir’s council about evil, I cannot say that I have seen true evil in my life. I do not know that Happs was true evil or not, but he welcomed it into his soul and was content with it. It is a hard job that we have before us, to judge men. So much has lead each of them to where they are. I do not make excuses for them, but hope that if they are unable to find some goodness in this life, then perhaps in the next they shall. Your hope that there can be a day where we do not need to strike at each other gladdens my heart.
She leans in closer to Malthir and says to him privately, You were radiant on the field this day. It was beautiful to see a true manifestation of Her divinity wrapped around your form. She pulls away, slowly, but looks as if she may have said too much to Malthir.
Vaysh watches Malthir as he goes and sits down on the bench, It wears on him already, or maybe he is worn from Her intervention. Mayhaps I can be of help to him, and ease his burden.
She walks towards Malthir slowly, her eyes looking over his armored form, searching to find if he is still wounded. She speaks to Malthir with concern in her eyes, You are worn from the fight, Malthir? I can see you carry a great burden with you. Mayhaps, I may help you this evening with your rituals? I am used to farm life and not this warrior way we now live by. I know the teachings of our Mistress; I have seen you diligent every night in maintenance of these things that are important to you. I do not know my way around such a blade, but I am used to performing my own service with the tools of my old trade. I am willing to learn and I am willing to help. Then, perhaps we can pray together? I find that after this day, I have much to pray for, Vaysh smiles to Malthir, though he can see that her resolve was shaken today with Jerek’s betrayal.
Vaysh looks to Casimir, returning from checking the bodies, He saved my life today, she thinks as she moves forward and embraces him, wrapping her arms around his neck and placing her head on his shoulder. Thank you, she whispers to him.
Breaking the embrace, she looks Casimir in the eyes and asks, Are they all…are they dead? She gulps hard as she lets the final word out of her mouth. So much death today, and most of it has been pointless. Even Jerek killing the thylacine served no purpose in the end. How has father dealt with this life away from a quiet mundane existence for so long? Mayhaps tomorrow shall be a bit brighter.
Vaysh breaks her thoughts with a smile to Casimir, How are you my savior? You are still covered with blood! Are you injured? Vaysh’s green eyes well up with concern as she begins to check Casimir for sign of his injury.
That entry was a whirlwind of emotion, don’t read it like she is jumping from one to the next that fast. I don’t want her to seem emo, and reading it in a manner that it all happens quickly that makes her seem like she is self medicating with seriously bad results. She is certainly emotional ATM, just not completely bipolar!

Fenna healed most of my wounds, though I think there is still some bruising and I believe I will be sporting some lovely new scars come the new day. It was a tough fight and I don't enjoy killing men. It is the burden that our lady has laid upon us though and I carry it gladly. We have a purpose, one greater than ourselves. We are truly blessed. I believe that how we appear and how we act reflect upon us. To be honest, my armor and sword has become a ritual that helps me relax and focus for the coming day just as much as what I was taught about appearances. You are welcome to join me, if that is your desire, but don't feel obligated to do so. You did well again in this battle, we will have many more hurdles to overcome, some tougher than this one, but again think on what we get to do in Iomedae's name...
To Casimir just after dinner
OK calling it a night talk to you guys tomorrow, looking forward to dinner with Oleg, Svetlana, and the "Protectors of the Greenbelt", just another name suggestion Malthir throws out this night...

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Your comrades that are back at camp, how long is it until they expect your return? What will happen when you do not return to them?
We're expected back today with the loot. If we don't return I imagine Kressle will expect trouble. Maybe send out a scout and gather any nearby bandits in case an attack is headed her way.
Are they similarly armed and armored to your band of failed raiders? Do any of them other than Kressle stand out from those that we fought here today?
Most are armed in a similar fashion. Leather armour is the norm, and they mostly favour bows and blades. They are mostly pretty green, like the men I came with, but they make up for their lack of experience with brutality, heh...
I would like to hear more of Kressle, as a leader, a person, and a fighter, would you tell me this? Does Kressle manage your bandit troop from camp, or leave to guide you in the field? When was the last time that Kressle left your camp? Do you know when Kressle will next leave camp?
Happs looks uncomfortable at this line of questioning.
Kressle's dangerous... and she's my friend. I know we're friends too, but I don't feel right talking about her behind her back my lady. She is based in the camp, as the Stag Lord's leutenant this far north. Shes the big fish in the camp.
Happs, do you know of other camps that bandits use? Please, tell me what you know of them.
I'm not aware of any other major camp's; i'm fairly new to all this- I used to live in Restov before I became a wanted man.
What dangers do these lands hold? Are there areas that you and your men avoid? Why?
We don't go any further into the forest. There's danger everywhere; mies, kobolds, vicious animals, and even some Fey. The only place we really avoid is Nettle's Crossing though- an old toll bridge to the east. Kressle didn't tell me the details, but she said its haunted.
Did you know that man,[/B] Vaysh gestures to the corpse of Jerek. Tell me of him. He wished to kill me, but was only brave enough to do so when he felt that we were outnumbered.
Jerek? He's a bandit like us. Kressle had him watch the north road for any response from Restov, and for any fat merchants or travellers to steal. He was always a crafty one, Jerek. A good spy.
I have a book, were I to unbind your hands and give you pen, would you draw me a map of both your camp and the way to it?[/B]
I... I've told you enough already. Wouldn't want to upset Kressle. Sorry love... I'll draw you a map to the camp, but I won't draw the camp itself.

Oleg AKA DM AK |

Oleg sips his wine, savouring it and sighing contentedly. Then he begins to carry the bandits corpses up onto the walls of his stockade. Turning to the group during his duties, he pauses for a moment, and then says-
Incidentally, the Swordlords of Restov recently promised me some soldiers to finally keep the trading post safe. I'm expecting them in the next couple of days. So, don't delay your exploration on my behalf; i'll be just fine here now that Happs is no longer a threat...
Svetlana emerges from the large building, staggering under the weight of a huge cauldron of tasty smelling stew. She puts the cauldron down on the ground, panting.
Can one of you strong fellow's carry this onto the table for me? she asks with a smile. The amount of food in the cauldron is collossal; enough to feed at least a dozen men.

Malthir Al' Dagon |

Of course Svetlana, we would be honored to help you. Edric, get your big arms over here and get me a hand eh! It smells delicious, what is it?
What about the Thrycine pelt we recovered, was that worth anything?
Oleg, are you sure you want to hang those on the outside of the outpost? I know you want to make a point but if the other bandits should return and we are not here? At least if they are all gone you might be able to tell them they came and went. Who knows what could happen to them out there.
Malthir will try diplomacy to try and talk him out of it. Part of it is that he doesn't want to see the men's bodies treated in such a manner as well as this isn't the message he really wants to send to other folk who come here. He wants it to be known that bandits will not be tolerated and they will be delt with, but we can still do it with some honor. If someone wants to assist in talking him out of it that would be great. diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Oleg AKA DM AK |

Of course Svetlana, we would be honored to help you. Edric, get your big arms over here and get me a hand eh! It smells delicious, what is it?
Elk Stew! Svetlana replies with a grin. With a healthy dose of vegetables too though she adds.
What about the Thrycine pelt we recovered, was that worth anything?
It would have been but Jerek utterly botched the job.
Oleg, are you sure you want to hang those on the outside of the outpost? I know you want to make a point but if the other bandits should return and we are not here? Well... I suppose your right lad. I think we'll be safe enough here when the soldiers from Restov arrive, but I suppose we shouldn't be as bloodthirsty as the scum who steal from us aye?
Oleg's voice drops to a whisper.
Sorry lad... There's a lot of hate in my heart for these bandits. They threatened to rape Svetlana, and I think they would have done it this time too. Kressle also took my wedding ring.. a family heirloom passed down for generations. Svetlana won't have me ask you publicly to recover it... But if you did manage to find it in your travels, i'd pay handsomely for its return.

Vaysh |

I am confused on one matter Happs, you have told me that your camp is about a day away, this is walking and not the speed that you and your company would have covered the ground?
When most people's attention has drifted away from the prisoner, Vaysh says, I have one last question, and this question is of the greatest importance to me Happs. A man came south this past fall. She pulls out a locket from around her neck, and opens it to show a portrait of a handsome Restovan man with dark hair and a scar over his left eye. Do you recognize this portrait of him?
Thank you for all that you have told me Happs. Is there anything that you wish to say before all of this is over? Vaysh asks, knowing that this is the last conversation that the man is to have before his death.
Seeing Svetlana emerge with dinner, Vaysh curses to herself, Too long have I taken with Happs, I have not been able to help Svetlana. I must speak with her privately later this evening. Thank you Malthir and Sir Orlavsky. Svetlana, may I speak with you for a moment? the slim and slight woman asks.
When Malthir speaks of his wounds, Vaysh replies, You would allow me then? I may be of some use in easing the discomfort that you feel. Once again her hand glows with radiance, quickly discharging to Malthir’s wound. The touch of the divine fire burns quickly, but after a short moment of discomfort it brings small amount of relief to the wound. Smiling to Malthir, Vaysh asks, Better?
She listens to his speech, watching his face as he relates his beliefs of proper behavior, I hope that you know already that I agree with what you have said. I know that today is but a small taste of what is to come for us, while I am personally appalled at what we have witnessed, and Jerek’s betrayal does not sit well with me, I feel that it has brought me better understanding of what lays in front of us. Tonight at dinner, I would like to speak to everyone of a personal reason that I am here.
She continues, holding Malthir’s gaze with her emerald eyes, It would be an honor to aid you in the maintenance of your equipment. I find that I enjoy spending time with you, your faith reminds me of those important to me. Vaysh seems somewhat uncertain of herself as she speaks, the grim determination she held with Happs slowly fading away from her.
He would come to the farm, where we settled when I was but a child, infrequently. He trusted our guardianship to a creature of the beyond, as she mentions this she nods to Fenna. Miss Thistleswade has asked me of where I come to know of Celestial creatures. My tutor, guardian, and great friend is a creature of such origin.
Vaysh continues, her hands shake slightly as she goes further and further into her story, This past autumn, my father visited with me for a short time. He spoke to me of both his future and mine. He was traveling to these lands and believed that what he would do here was of great import to Rostland, though he would not tell me what it was he was working on here. Every night of autumn & winter, I journeyed to a rock a short ways south of my family’s farmhouse. There I waited my cloak the only protection against the elements. I looked out to the horizon for a time as day gave way to evening, and for longer into the darkness. I searched for sign of my father’s return to my family, but no flicker ever appeared on the horizon to provide me hope.
I know not how my guardian knew, but he visited me one night and told me that my father would not be returning, Vaysh’s control over what she is saying begins to break down, and tears well up in her eyes as her voice begins to crack. I feared that my father was dead, though I do not wish to believe such. I prayed for divine guidance from my Lady, she touches the tear covered mark on her face as she says this.
I was reminded of the action that my father set before me, that I was to inherit his legacy, at this point Vaysh can no longer do anything to hold back the tears. She grabs for a cloth to wipe her face, I’m sorry, excuse me but a moment, she pleads. After wiping away some of the tears she continues, still crying, I journeyed to Restov for information on why my father went into the Stolen Lands. The Lord Mayor knew he was investigating the bandits, but had little else for me. I was offered his place in this charter company so that I could search for him.
Vaysh turns her pleading gaze towards Oleg and Svetlana, Please, do you have any word of my father?

Malthir Al' Dagon |

Before dinner:
Do we feel like we have gained all of the information we want out of these two? What about the other one, do you think we could talk him into drawing us a map of the camp? If we are finished with them, we must carry out their sentence. I don't want to worry about them tonight slipping out of their bonds in the middle of the night and sneaking off to warn their fellows.
I am glad you have changed your mind Oleg, after a few days the smell and the crows would have changed you mind anyways! Consider it done, we will find this ring if it can be found, it is the least that we can do for your continued hospitality. Once we deal with Happs and his fellow, we can get these bodies buried a distance away from the outpost. Later he will let the rest of the group know what Oleg has asked of us, as soon as Svetlana is not around.
During dinner: A toast! to honor! to justice! and to freedom from tyranny! and here is to each of you fine companions, with our able bodies we will bring prosperity to these lands once and for all!
After dinner conversation:
Casimir, I like your suggestion for a name, The Guardians of the GreenBelt , it has a certain ring to it. What say you all, is it suitable?
We're expected back today with the loot. If we don't return I imagine Kressle will expect trouble. Maybe send out a scout and gather any nearby bandits in case an attack is headed her way.
I don't like waiting for Kressle to gather more men and forces. We should strike quickly while we still have the advantage. It sounds like we could come at the camp from the South or East relatively unnoticed. We would need to leave tomorrow though, or any advantage would be lost. It will take her a couple of days to gather these men most likely, any thoughts? (8 Wisdom assumption on her men...gotta try to play it when I can)
She continues, holding Malthir’s gaze with her emerald eyes, It would be an honor to aid you in the maintenance of your equipment. I find that I enjoy spending time with you, your faith reminds me of those important to me. Vaysh seems somewhat uncertain of herself as she speaks, the grim determination she held with Happs slowly fading away from her.
Malthir blushes a little trying to keep his face unreadible. As...as do I Vaysh. I find that walks in the nigth air do me good, would you do me the honor of joining me after dinner for a short one?

Vaysh |

Vaysh smiles at Malthir, blushing a little as well. I do not know what is happening; I am new to such things around me. Both the attention that Malthir and Casimir pay me makes me feel good. I admit that I was attracted to Sir Orlavsky, but he is far too quiet, and standoffish. It would be my pleasure to walk with you after dinner. I can show you where I played as a younger girl when I visited here. As Vaysh finishes, her hair falls in front of her face, protecting her from the world.
Silly fool, why would he care for where you played when you were small, he has no use of a secret playground! He is a stalwart defender, a warrior hoping to bring about a better world, not your brother with a frog in his hand… Vaysh thinks as she bites her lower lip again.

Casimir |

Casimir watches wordlessly as Vaysh and Malthir question Happs. Having nothing to add, he begins to gather the weapons and armor of the bandits. As he reaches the body of Jerek, he pauses for a moment to consider the man that lies dead by his blade.
My first kill. If ever a man deserved a death by the sword, it was this one. I can't believe I let a man I could not trust stand behind me in battle. It almost cost Vaysh her life. I must not let my eagerness to test my skills cloud my judgement in the future.
Slightly surprised by Vaysh sudden display of affection, Casimir nonetheless savors the touch of the sorceress against him. When she asks if the bandits are all dead, he nods grimly.
To her questions about his injuries, he says:
Don't worry, none of this blood is mine. No blade touched me today. I'm sorry that I can not say the same for you. I hardly deserve to be labeled your savior. Had my mind not been reeling from the touch of magic and the promise of combat, I would never have allowed a man I did not know to draw steel beside me. My uncle taught me better, when I was just a boy, yet at the first chance of battle, I forgot the most basic of his advice. And you payed the price for my mistake. How are your wound? It was a grievous blow he struck you.
No thanks are nessecary, Malthir. After all, I failed to keep the bastards blade from hurting her. And you - you fought like a lion out there, facing off against three of them with two arrows in your flesh. My respect for the holy warriors of Iomedae rose to a new level today. Without you, all of us would have been hanging from the stockade, and Vaysh would have been ravished by those filthy curs a dozen times.
As Svetlana brings dinner, Casimir once again turns to the gnome for assistance with his gory apperance:
Well Fenna...how about it...I think the need for me being all frightfull to look upon has passed.
Cleaned up, Casimir takes a place besides the others, eating with a healthy appetite and savoring the wine.

Casimir |

As Happs mentiones Kressle
Now that one sounds like a worthy challenge for my blade. I'm sure Malthir and Sir Edric feel the same. But no matter. Sound like there will be plenty of bandits for all of us.
In response to Oleg's offer of using the trading post as a base
Thank you, Oleg. This place will serve nicely as a base for our exploration. And it is good to know there is a reliable source of supplies around.
This reminds me. Sir Edric talked earlier about buying horses for us all. Now it would seem that we have been provided some here, who are all of a sudden without owners.
We should take a moment to consider the spoils of battle. After all, we have not come here to plunder for ourselves, but I see no problem in confiscating the possessions of those we vanquish and using them in our cause. And if opportunity presents itself to make some coin for ourselves - or whatever worthy cause one may wish - I'm all for it.
I propose that all weapons, gear and other items taken from those we defeat be sold to Oleg if we have no use for them ourselves, and the money pooled for the common use of the company - buying feed for the horses and rations for us, potions of healing and other necessities. What other money we make, from rewards or treasure we may happen upon, we share equally amongst ourselves.
What say you all to this?
During dinner
As Vaysh tells the story of her father: So that's why she's here, and why she seems so sad at times. I wonder who her father is, and how he serves the Swordlords. Perhaps my uncle would know.
In response to Malthir's toast: Casimir raises his glass with bright smile. Hear, hear! The bandits of these lands face dire times indeed! And I'm pleased you like my suggestion for a name for our group.
In response to Malthir's suggestion to move out in the morning: A quick strike against the remaining bandits have merit, but all of us save Fenna were wounded today. Do we have enough healing to ensure that we face the bandits at full strength, and still have some reserves if the fight should go against us? Oleg, do you have any more healing potions about?
After dinner
As the light of the day begins to fade, Casimir pours himself another glass of Oleg's fine wine, and sets himself by the fire with his weapons. Soon, the familiar sound of the whetstone can be heard as is scrapes along the blade, smoothing out the dents made by Jerek's sword and the claws of the Blood Cougar. Casimir's face is a serene mask, and he appears to be completely lost in the ritual care of his weapons. His eyes stare deeply into the embers of the fire - only rising for the briefest of moments to glance at Malthir and Vaysh as they walk off together into the night. His expression never changes.

Vaysh |

Vaysh looks down at the wound she has suffered, already it has mostly been healed, but the scarring that is left will take a long time to disappear or be forgotten. A serious look comes to her face as she looks back to Casimir, I to stood with Jerek. I trusted the man, and was caught off guard by Sir Orlavsky’s warning to him. I would have embraced Jerek as a friend, and would have liked to know him better.
Her gaze shifts away from Casimir, towards the place where Jerek died, where he attacked her. A shudder runs through her body and her hand goes to the wound. She looks up at Casimir, it is obvious to any that the subject is one filled with emotion for her, He would have killed me. Even now I do not wish his fate upon him, though I am glad that he is dead.
Vaysh listens to Casimir finish his statements to her, We both feel that we have made mistakes this day that hurt the other, mayhaps we should forgive each other and look to the future. As for the wounds, Fenna saw to most of them immediately, without her I do not know if I would have made it through the battle, but Sir Orlavsky and Malthir received far more telling blows. I am filled with wonder at their fortitude to withstand such an onslaught.

Malthir Al' Dagon |

Oleg gave us this in thanks as well Inside the sack are 60 gold pieces, a labelled potion of cure light wounds, and a labelled potion of shield of faith. As Vaysh is busy taking to Happs, he gives the sack to Malthir.
to share amongst the group. I don't care much about the spoils of our combat, other than to make our group more effective. Items that can benefit all should be kept in reserve for the entire group and agreed, the rest we should share equally amongst ourselves. Vaysh, I could use a little more of your healing touch though?
I have Malthir currently at 10 hp, 3 from max of 13.
Malthir Al' Dagon |

Looks like we will have to wait then. We can't go charging in there at half strength or waste our healing energies and have none left for the coming fight. Should we then at least explore the area around Olegs tomorrow and map it out?
So are there is no other ?'s for Happs? If not Malthir would go with Edric to pass sentence on the two men.
