This part of the adventure has turned out to be extremely challenging.
Right now, unless someone can use a reaction to decrease the damage on Clyde, then he's dead. Fortunately, he belongs to the Harper's, so he'll get a free resurrection.
I've been talking with other DMs about what to do for this game for the past day and a half, as I knew deaths were much more likely based on the tactics employed. Moving forward, the difficulty of future encounters will be decreased to accommodate for the reduced party size (based on the new Average Party Level guidelines in the book).
Hints for the current encounter: The teacher and students appear to be attached to one another. Defeating one will significantly reduce the morale of the other. The students appear to be significantly injured at this point. All three of them are ragged.
The Feathered Knight appears to be trying to draw you guys outside.
The Thugs don't appear to be particularly loyal and will only attack so long as they feel they have the advantage in combat.
=======================================
Lessoned to be learned going forward: scouting is important and can provide vital details when assaulting a compound. The knowledge of who is defending a compound and how they make their patrols can make the difference when making a plan.
On that note, plans are important when assaulting a compound.
Attacking at night when people are asleep can make it so more enemies are without armor - and you could even catch them while they're sleeping and make it so they can't raise an alarm. (for now, none of the nobles are wearing armor, so you do have that going for you).
Sneaking in and taking out sentries before they can raise an alarm helps tremendously.
Your current plan of assaulting the compound in the middle of the day, with minimal scouting and announcing yourselves to the enemy prior to the assault may still work, but it's unlikely everyone will make it through alive.

Ragnar the Grim |

I am sincerely sorry about how this is going down everyone. I never play the type of character that throws caution to the wind to this level of recklessness, Clyde and our GM can attest to that. I made a roleplay decision that Ragnar would be pissed off with these people (supposedly) sending dust mephits to try to kill us, and that he would be looking to knock down doors and bust in skulls. Again, I am really sorry if this decision is, has, or will ruin anyone's fun, Clyde's especially, since it's looking like he's out. I promise you all, that if we do all play again, (if we, in a very unsurprising turn of events, die) I will not play a character like this one.

Shoo Zahal |

Well, to be honest, you made this decision, but this doesn't make you guilty of anything. I went to the house with the intention of talking to them, but then followed you instead of trying to stop you. None of us tried. So if there's any kind of guilt, we're all guilty.
Plus, well, it's just a game... and games sometimes f*** up.

I'm with Shoo. We could've tried to stop you and no one forced us in.
Louis didn't even want to stop Ragnar and was more than happy to let the chaos unfold. Now we're in the middle of it and I'd really like to see it through, and have Clyde resurrected.
I'm craving a revenge-burger, extra cheesy! For Clyde!! He dyde!!

AL DM |

Revenge. Hot revenge.
I'll wait until my lunch break (about 4-5 hours) before making an update, just to give everyone time to make a reaction if they have one.
If you don't, then please say so here so we can move on. I'm assuming that Ragnar, Louis, and Shoo do not, as they've already posted and haven't done anything to alleviate Clyde's predicament.

Clyde Reinhart |

I didn't wanna post this because I don't want it to seem like I'm upset about my character dying. It's a game and it doesn't really even affect me later because of the free faction rez. So I'm fine that my character died, but everyone keeps saying no one tried to stop Ragnar and I tried 6 times lol.

'Lownoise' Louis |

Ah yeah, I see. Ive scrolled back and I totally take my words back, Clyde was indeed the one who was most vocal about applying any sort of tactic and stealth. Thats a bit sour then, that he's the one biting the dust first.
"Seven armed adventurers bursting through the front gate in the middle of the day might not be the greatest idea." Was his pearl of wisdom.

'Lownoise' Louis |

I feel like my timezome/schedule are messing me up a bit.
I fell asleep yesterday just before you posted your update of round 5. Posting before that would have created confusion, because it's not my turn yet and others can do things that influence my actions.. but I don't get enough time to act after the update.
Because sleep.
I'm quite invested in this game, as I'm having fun. But if Louis needs to get botted then I get the feeling I'm not playing up to standard and I don't want to irritate people.

AL DM |

In general, it's better to post an action ahead of time, and if it needs to be corrected, then it can be.
If everyone waits their turn in initiative, we'd be waiting for days or weeks for each round. I've run games where we wait for each person's initiative, and it absolutely kills games. For short games like this, it can seriously drag on.
That's why we have a requirement to post at least once a day (and once on the weekend). And that's why I set up the rules at the very beginning in the recruitment thread - if someone isn't following that posting schedule, they will be botted in combat.
At a live table, we could just nudge someone when they're turn is up. In PBP - waiting for your turn could cause long delays.
Be predictive, and if needed, change up your action later.

xD Clyde haunts Shoo until he's resurrected.

AL DM |

Now that the nobles, the teacher, and the spy are effectively out of combat, I'll tell you their combat conditions:
You caught them in a training session and the nobles didn't have time to get their armor on, which gave them -4 AC.
The module says that when their teacher drops (Thug 2), all three nobles surrender. Conversely, when all three students drop, their teacher runs away.
Lastly, the Spy's condition is that when all his allies are defeated, he runs away.

This concludes Breath of the Yellow Rose.
Thank you all for playing; I hope you enjoyed it. I'll be calculating rewards for everyone involved later today, and splitting up XP and gold appropriately. Log sheets will be posted later this week.
I will not be starting a new game soon. Unfortunately, I've developed tendinitis in both my hands, making typing painful. So until I recover (doc says 3-4 weeks), I'm going to lay low from PBP games. So give me about a month the or so, and I'll start up a new one. In the meantime, I highly recommend one of you start up an AL PBP game. The community will love you for it. :)

Shoo Zahal |

Thank you, Al. I'm sorry gameplay was a bit slow at the end, and also sorry about your tendinitis. Hope it gets better soon.
Sorry also to Clyde.

No worries about it being slow. We just needed a reminder and you guys all finished really strong.
It's holiday season, so I kind of expected it to slow, but I also wanted to finish it up so I could close the game. I've dropped one of my other games, and the last three I've put on pause or just taken a background role for me to heal up. :)

AL DM |

Gold.
I'm assuming you guys are selling all found equipment. If someone wants to keep one of the weapons or armors found, please let me know and I'll update the gold accordingly. All of this information will be included in your logsheet.

Dissemination of magic items:

Permanent can be taken by anyone. If there is more than one person making a claim for it, the person with the fewest permanent magic items receives the item. If there is a tie, roll off.

Thank you! I guess I can do the calculations myself in regards to final xp and gold totals. Also, I'm assuming if you leave something blank, then it's nothing gained.

Ragnar the Grim |

Unless anyone wants them, I'll take the gas bombs. If someone wants them, I'll pass on the consumables.

Ember Draymon |

Thanks again for running the game AL DM :)
I'd like to claim the scroll of Misty Step if that's ok. It's on the wizard spell list so I could add it to my spell book later.

GM Kip |

Thanks AL DM :)
