Mom's Coming Home for Dinner
Hot Merchandise

Act I: Welcome to Seattle
Scene 1: The Chase

Date: May 27, 2085
Time: 1023 PST
Location: Heading West on I-90 in Cascade Mountains of Washington State

This morning started with a raid against a Dhohanoid breeding pit in the Cascade mountains and, for the last hour, has turned into a high-speed pursuit through Stevens Pass, down towards the Seattle arcology. Just as the Chrysalis Corporation clean-up team arrived earlier, three cars burst out of a side building and took off. Your team jumped into nearby cars and began the chase.

The Dhohanoids in the lead cars are maniacally driving at over 100 miles per hour in the outlying regions, and then drop to only about five miles over the speed limit in sections. They seem to know exactly when a cop is going to be around the next corner.

You may be in your own car, all piled into one, or any combination there of. Please work it out in the discussion thread.

Male Human Retired Fleet Admiral

to dot

He was holding on the the handles, mostly so that he could keep upright. This chase was taking longer than it should have
"When we catch them... I am going to make sure nothing but ash remains!" he growls in frustration. Since he bonded, his hatred for Dhoanoids has grown immensely

Axel was a well built, military man. No scars any more, but he had a few before he bonded. Dark brown hair with equally dark green eyes.. He was now dressed in his black mission clothes. This hand to hand specialist was quite the opposite of his flaming self.

Eloise

Eloise sits in the back seat, appearing as relaxed as if she were on a morning drive, her sidearm drawn and ready in case the car gets close enough to make a shot.
"Should I take to the air? Now they've slowed I can probably keep pace?" it's clear to most in the car that Eloise is looking for an excuse to transform, she likes the thrill of it.

Male Human Retired Fleet Admiral

"And have the cops see you? Then we have them and the dhoanoids to deal with... i dont think thats a good idea. I dont want to accidently kill someone who was just trying to keep the peace..."

-Posted with Wayfinder

Female Human Shadow Tager

In contrast to the rather more relaxed people around her, Sarah Charmichael has both her hands in a white-knuckle grip around the wheel, so far barely managing to keep pace without getting them arrested. No longer quite a young woman, she has grown out the military haircut a bit but still keeps to the regular training schedule, or so it seems. "I can't keep this thing going forever," she notes, managing to weave around another pothole. "We're either going to have to make a move or let them get away this time. Your call."

Male Human Retired Fleet Admiral

"Shoot the tyres once they pick up speed, if a turn, preferably a sharp one, the shoot out tyres" he suggests
"And if you cant, let me do it"

-Posted with Wayfinder

Haywood sits in the back seat, unconcerned by the bobbing and weaving, his right hand racing over a device on his left forearm. "Re-routing traffic patterns as best I can. Bad day for a commute." Haywood is one of those people who could be any race in a movie: slightly dusky of skin, average height, slight build, brown hair, grey eyes. He's so terribly average that it's hard to get much of a hold on him.

"Elo, please keep the gun from bumping my PCPU. It makes me all kinds of nervous."

Eloise

I'm no soldier, but get us close enough and I'll take a shot. Eloise leans out of the window to see if she can get a clear sight and down to medium range (about 35 yards)

Male Human Retired Fleet Admiral

If Axel is one at the other window, he will do the same

"Well I guess talking things over is out of the question."
Deek ponders while trying to keep up in his beat-up used late-model 2-seater.
"Wonder what tipped them off?" (under his breath).
"Hey (using tac comm-hopefully secure) any of you folks handy with messing up traffic signals/control? Maybe we can create an opportunity to force them off the road...nicely you know without a big explosion and all."

OOC:

OOC:
Hey, love starting in media res!
Deek is probably driving own personal vehicle that he has from his own business. Unless working with the ES means you can requisition items such as basic vehicle(s).

Deek works to get his car in position to assist Sarah in either forcing them off the road or slowing them down/restricting their movements to make a shot at their tires easier.

Female Human Shadow Tager

"Hold on!" Sarah slams on the gas, trying to hold the car as steady as possible while letting at least one of her passengers get a good firing arc.

I believe this will be a pilot+agi roll: 7d10 ⇒ (6, 1, 2, 5, 1, 7, 2) = 24 Taking 7

M Human+ Tager

Apologies wasn't sure if the Keeper...er DM was rolling for us.
Pilot Test
Base: Agility(8)
Dice: 2d10
Taking 7 = 15.
To the DM: rolz.org is fine for rolling if you don't have dice or a roller of your choice handy.

Lantern Lodge

Reredraw: please make an alias for your character and post under that. It makes thing easier when I am trying to look things over.

Everyone: I-90 is an interstate, that means there are no traffic signals. Only other motorists, law enforcement officers, construction crews, and miles and miles of macadem and exits onto local routes.

Since I am imagining everyone in a mid-sized sedan. Would you guess like to separate yourselves into who is in Deek's vehicle and who is in Sarah's car?

Sarah holds the wheel steady, though the car is shaking due to the unusual strain she is putting on the engine. Her on-board monitors flashing various warnings of exceeding local speed limits, using an increased amount of fuel and the vehicle travelling at unsafe speeds. With a flick of a switch and white-knuckling the steering wheel she manages to maneuver the car only a couple dozen yards behind the Dhohanoid vehicles.

The car loads of Dhohanoids are playing an adult shell game with you Eldritch Society members. One care slowing allowing the others to speed up and vice versa. With no identifying marks and the same make and model and color of car it is almost impossible to find who is carrying the package. Additionally more cars exactly like the ones you are chasing will fall into formation and the peel off, the majority of you are able to tell which three to follow as the additional cars are only carrying Human and Nazzadi Chrysalis Corporation Security professionals.

Observation 22:
There in that car! There is one of the Dhohanoids with a steel briefcase. The glare is almost blinding. Keeping track of the car is going to require a Challenging Observation Test each "round" unless you can create some identifying marks.

Drivers I am going to need a Pilot test and need to know how fast you are travelling.

If you wish to make "pot" shots at the wheels, go ahead and roll. The only other thing that I believe was mentioned was hacking systems. This is going to be extended actions but go ahead and give me a computer test.

Please use the Paizo board roller. I will not accept other methods.

Eloise

Sarah, isn't that roll backwards: Shouldn't you roll 3 dice, select the highest/highest group and then add your Agility (7)?

Rarednaw, there's a dice builder built into the forum just use [ dice=Pilot]2d10[ /dice] (minus the spaces)

Eloise would have just jumped in whichever car was closest to hand 1:Sarah 2:rarednaw: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Observation: 3d10 ⇒ (7, 7, 10) = 24 pair of 7's + 9 for 23

Shoot the tires!: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

NB: still need to select some basic gear don't I, I'll got in it in the morning

M Human+ Tager

Apologies! Alt created but kept forgetting to set "posting as" each time!
Pilot Test
Pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (9, 5) = 14+base(Agility 8)

Deek hopes that the eagle eyes in the group keep their eyes on the MacGuffin. He does his best to keep the right car in sight...he'll even ding it with his own if that's the only way to mark it.

Observation Test (keeping his eye on the cheese)
Observation: 3d10 ⇒ (6, 2, 10) = 18 + base(Perception 6)

EDIT: posted and then read about the built-in dice roller. Reposting with the built-in roller.

M Human+ Tager

Alternatively, if one of you shooters wants to mark the car by shooting a pattern of bullet holes...unless you're carrying some kind of remote tracker. *wink*

Female Human Shadow Tager

Huh. I seem to remember more dice being involved (as I have said, it's been a very long while since I played) but I'll go with that for now. Observation + Per: 3d10 ⇒ (9, 8, 7) = 24 ...and if I'm remembering right, I get to keep all of those for a total of 32. I was going to ask if Eidetic Memory helps here, but I guess that's not needed. More coming in a bit.

Male Human Retired Fleet Admiral

He would be in Sarah's car. No need for whole team to be in 1 car

It was hard to keep track as he watched the cars swerve and move around

Observation: 3d10 ⇒ (9, 10, 9) = 28
18+5=23

He spots the car the were tracking, aiming for a wheel, he pulls the trigger

Marksman: 3d10 ⇒ (4, 2, 7) = 13
7+8=15

well. Both car teams firing at same vehicle....

-Posted with Wayfinder

Observation: 3d10 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4, 2) + 7 = 16

Distracted by the PCPU, Haywood ignores the car, choosing to focus on hacking into the cameras along the route and rerouting any traffic he can! Computer Use-Hacking: 4d10 + 7 ⇒ (5, 5, 10, 8) + 7 = 35 Looks like a 17 on that one.

Female Human Shadow Tager

Sarah laughs a bit as her eyes narrow in on the target. Just to be sure, she waits for it to drift to the back of this little game of three-card-monte, and then slams down on the gas again, not so much trying to damage the vehicle as put some scuff marks on that perfect paint job and maybe take out a light if she's really lucky.

Pilot + Agi: 3d10 ⇒ (5, 7, 6) = 18 = 15

Can actually add your agility to the 18

rules:
FYI: Skill check (Test) mechanics posted in the discussion thread. Or rather, my understanding of it. :) And hope it helps. Took me a while of re-reading the section to get it again.

M Human+ Tager

Deek (Kingsbridge) kept one eye on the road, the other on the target, and relied on his teammates to bring the target down.

Extended Test (not sure how many we'll need).
Pilot 2 + Agility (8) (taking 7 = 15)
Pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11+ 8 -> 14
Pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6+ 8 = +DP IF NEEDED: 1d10 ⇒ 10 ->18
Pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9+ 8 -> 14
Observation 3 + Perception (6) (taking 7 = 13)
Observation: 3d10 ⇒ (8, 6, 9) = 23 +6 -> 15
Observation: 3d10 ⇒ (3, 1, 8) = 12 +6 -> 14
Observation: 3d10 ⇒ (8, 9, 4) = 21 +6 -> 15
FYI: Any crit fails, I will burn a DP to avoid. Unless it's dramatically appropriate, that is. ;)

Female Human Shadow Tager

I actually /did/ know that. However, that post was made when I'd been up for approximately 19 hours. Can be a little slow.

Lantern Lodge

Opposed Pilot vs Sarah: 2d10 ⇒ (4, 7) = 11 7+12=19

Sarah closes in and manages to damage the rear quarter panel of the drivers side.

Haze begins hacking into W-DOT systems.

Alex's pot shot misses.

Martin follows suit and follows Sarah.

Eloise misses the tires as well.

The other two cars drop back and sandwich Sarah inbetween them. 2d10 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 =17

You all see the signs for downtown Seattle and traffic is starting to get backed up due to the sheer amount of commuters.

Female Human Shadow Tager

Sarah sees them coming and slams down on the brakes to see if she can't get them to take each other out. "Go for the one I just rammed!" she shouts, trying to pick up speed again.

I'm going to take that as one to dodge, I think. 3d10 ⇒ (3, 4, 4) = 11 And I'll spend a Drama Point to see if I can improve on that: 1d10 ⇒ 5 For 20 taking the straight.

Eloise

Eloise lines up another shot at the tires, staying quiet and concentrating.
If I'm reading right you can take multiple actions so can aim then fire, -2 for extra action but +4 for aiming for net +2?

Attack: 1d10 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19

Deeks notes that the team is running out of time if they want to keep this outside of town.

*better make this quick and make this count*
Tried one last time to force the lead car off of the road. If this last attempt failed, he figured he would have to drop back and shadow them rather than cause collateral damage as they hit downtown.

Pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (7, 10) = 17+Agility(8)-> 18

Lantern Lodge

Male

pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (10, 8) = 18 10 + 12 = 22

The Chrysalis Corporation operatives deftly maneuver out of the way. Some quick braking and then acceleration manages to move and miss all shots. Without any progress being made to slow the vehicle down. Leaving the Freeway traffic they head into downtown Seattle.

Drivers I am going to need a Pilot check in order to keep up.

2d10 ⇒ (10, 8) = 18 10 + 12 = 22
22 is your difficulty to keep up.

Female Human

Leshawanna quietly gives thanks to whatever spirits have kept us alive so far.

M Human+ Tager

*Took note of the fact that these drivers are exhibiting reflexes way above and beyond human, not to mention most tagers in shifted form and realized that barring a massive stroke of luck or changing shape and blowing any chance to resolve this in human form there was no way he going to keep up.*

Pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (5, 9) = 14+Agility(8)-> 17

*Hoped the team in the other car fared better.*

Lantern Lodge

Male

Waiting for the other car to post. If this has not occurred in the next 24 hours or so I will take action for them.

Female Human Shadow Tager

Sarah starts cursing as they pull into Seattle. "Dammit, another car I'm gonna have to ditch!" Once again she pushes the pedal to the floor.

Sorry, for some reason the new posts didn't show up for awhile.

Pilot: 3d10 ⇒ (4, 2, 10) = 16 For 18.

Suddenly she's forced to slam the brakes as a truck pulls across the wrong intersection, and she barely manages to skid the car into a stop before there's a far more horrible accident. "...dammit!"

Eloise

Eloise is antsy - "This isn't working, they're getting away."

"And it's not like we have superpowers that allow us to change into things that can easily run down a car in heavy traffic." Haywood calls from the backseat, still clacking over his keyboard.

M Human+ Tager

*muttered under his breath* "Well shoot! All those years I served on the lines...beaten by a corporate suit in a sedan who must moonlight NASCAR. Good thing these guys were not piloting the enemy craft or we would have lost the war years ago. Huh, maybe they were..."

Still hopeful we can tail them at least.

"Any luck stalling them with some creative traffic control hacking? Or did it have no effect?"

Female Human Shadow Tager

Sarah climbs out of the seat with a growl of frustration. "You're insane if you think we're letting you out in broad daylight. I'll do my best here." She glances about for a quick place to try to change and try to follow with her stealth ability, as unpromising as that sounds this close to the Arcology.

Lantern Lodge

Now that you are in the city where traffic can be manipulated via traffic lights you manage to keep pace and spot the car about a half a mile ahead of you breaking through Eastside weaving across the I-90 bridge into Mercer Island.

While you did not succeed the last test, consider it DM fiat because of Haze's work in hacking the systems. From now one Haze when I call for a pilot roll make a computer roll as you try to control traffic.

Pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6 5+12=17

Female Human

Somewhat shyly: Perhaps its best that we simply tail them. A firefight on the busy streets could get really messy, really fast.

Male Human Retired Fleet Admiral

sorry guys. Didnt get updates

-Posted with Wayfinder

Female Human Shadow Tager

Disregard last post, then.

Sarah barely manages to skid through the intersection, pulling up a bit closer as they hit the bridge. "All right, try this ya bastards!" She pulls up to the car in an effort to push it right off the road.

Pilot: 3d10 ⇒ (9, 5, 2) = 16 For 17.

Male Human Retired Fleet Admiral

"should i get out and help push" he grins. Itching to get at these monsters and abominations

M Human+ Tager

*Was hoping to take care of this outside of the crowded city...all those pesky cameras*

Slows down and pays attention to traffic and tries to follow the dented car. At least we won't be driving and dodging at high speeds anymore with this non-stop traffic jam, should be easier to keep up!

pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (10, 1) = 11+Agility->18->critical failure!
Second critical failure this scene with a skill he's good at so not spending a DP.

...okay looks like he spoke too soon...much harder when you're driving slower to avoid an accident? Fickle fate...looks like it may be up to you guys!

Lantern Lodge

With Martin putting his car in the ditch and effectively knocking himself out of the race.
I am assuming you are going to try and put the car back on the road and catch up through GPS on Sarah's car or something.

Sarah's confidence in driving only continues as she attempts to push the car off the road, however the superior reflexes of the other driver manages to turn the fish tail into an aid in taking the next turn continuing the chase across the bridge.
I recall the tie always goes to the defender and since you were trying to damage them it seems as if they were the defender even if they have the package.

Pilot rolls to weave through traffic across the I-90 bridge.
pilot: 2d10 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5

Female Human Shadow Tager

"GOTCHA!" Sarah's laugh is probably just a little disturbing, although three hours of this would probably get to anyone. Probably.

Pilot: 3d10 ⇒ (7, 1, 1) = 9 ....This just descended into Farce. 15 Crit Failure.

M Human+ Tager

Talk about a chain reaction!
*Chose between taking out an innocent bystander or keeping up with the Chrysalis car. He opted to skid into a ditch instead.*
*Plots an intercept on the GPS and tried to catch up...oddly enough it appears that everyone else had stopped as well, or maybe it was the effect of the traffic control hacking.*

Sarah loses the car as she spins out of control. Martin has plotted a course and is on his way. Both get an email playing over their cars wifi system from someone within the society named Riley Sommers.

Well it seems as if the cats can't catch the mouse. lol. don't worry kittens I got those big bads on my screen right now. They are in a warehouse in Belltown. I am routing you right now.

The adventure says he has a strange sense of humor. I was trying to be strange.

Your cars are now navigating you to a warehouse in Belltown. Now is an excellent time to prep what you are going to do before you go in.
