Knight on the making coming through!

With the DMs permission I will think about Kearra's suggestion of being a Cavalier instead of fighter for extra variety because Mechanically speaking there are only a few changes.

That said I have only one condition for that: treat me like another fighter, just one who happens to own a horse. That way I can follow my plan of From Humble Beginnings Great Heroes Are Made and can distinguish between PF "cavalier" and what truly means ^^

Hoi everyone! I'm rearin to go. Unless I'm one of those mentioned that needs to alter their character in which case I'M SO SORRY!

Bringing back something from the recruitment thread:

Kearra wrote:

... when it comes to defenses, we've got a lot of martial characters with only Pasie (a 6/9 caster who can wade into melee as well) and Melanie (9/9 but also capable of melee fighting) there as casting backup. No one is a ranged fighter so everyone has to beat enemies down with melee attacks. I think teamwork feats like outflank and precise strike might help since we're all scrapping together anyway.

Thankfully we have an even number of frontliners. Two are big two-handed fighters. They can deal the hurt while Pushie soaks damage and Kearra debuffs and mezzes. With Martial Flexibility, I can throw down some combat maneuvers while Varian and Lotar go with the direct route. Melanie buffs and throws down some ranged magic while Pasie mezzes from range.

Sounds about right to me. Getting and using teamwork feats (those two in particular) could be fun with all this melee action. I see Lotar getting right up in the middle of the action, smashing whatever gets in the way.

As we go on and he becomes more comfortable with the idea that going down in a blaze of glory might not be necessary, I'm toying with the idea of using a shield and going pretty tanky. We'll just have to see how it goes...

Alright, all the PMs are sent out with the few changes needed. It wasn't much. Once Ash checks in with the alias, we will be good to go. The first post will be up soon.

While everyone finishes up their sheets, does anyone have any questions about the world, my GMing style, this game, or anything else?

On a more serious note, can we get more info on the history of the world? Maybe some of the bigger cities?

I've decided to keep being a two handed style fighter for two main reasons: It's feat light and efficient.

And because I intend picking Master Craftsman in the future, and I'm considering checking with the GM about a prestige class, I thank having free feats.

I'm intrigued specially by a certain thing: How much of the world will be cliché? Are we going to be clichés among non cliche people or will it be full of our favourites troupes?

Varian, you can switch to Cavalier if you'd like. I meant to reply to that earlier, and it slipped my mind. My apologies.

EDIT: I guess you beat me to it!

Pasie, I'm not opposed to Leadership; it just has to be handled properly. My take on it is that I will wait and see how the group goes, and make the determination then.

As for Althamar, here you go! Althamar is a very cliché setting, and has many tropes represented. The people are pretty standard fantasy fare, for the most part. Basically, the world is full of Tropes, but you all will stand out as MORE cliché than than the average person around.

Spoiler:

Althamar is a mostly agrarian country surrounded by mountains on three sides. It’s population is approximated at two hundred twenty nine thousand people. A majority live in or near towns, coming in at just under two hundred thousand people. The remaining thirty thousand or so live in small farming communities, away from the more civilized areas of the country. Even then, most of the people living in towns work in the fields. It is estimated that over 90% of the country’s population work in an agrarian setting.

The elves live in the forests to the East and West, mostly in the West. A single massive Sea Elf city rests at the bottom of the Inland Sea in the Northwest. Halflings are the most common non-human, non-elf race in the country.

The game opens in the city of Dromston.

Spoiler:

Dromston is a city with lots of taverns. It is a place where soldiers from Combley travel on leave. Since Dromston accommodates so many farmers and off-duty soldiers, it is something of a poor man’s resort town. It has an active and engaging theater community, more taverns per capita than anywhere else in the country, and a lively and exciting boxing club. The city is at it’s core a tourist destination for the people of the region.

The Surrounding Nations:

Spoiler:

The Kingdom to the South is Hai Dow Shen. It is Japan and China, rolled in with some pirates. A large island chain, it has everything from pagodas to rice fields, to kitsune, to pirates. Imagine Tortuga as a country. Kind of had to have the obligatory Asian nation somewhere, in a setting like this.

Gornashka is to the East. It is the Ocish Plains nation. Lots of various tribes of barbarians warring upon each other. Gornashka has a tentative peace with Althamar. The founders of the two countries were traveling companions, but the countries have grown apart in the sveral centuries since they were founded.

The Western kingdom is Selekas, the obligatory desert and Arabian Nights setting. Lots of desert, and water traders ply their wares along their main trade road. This country buys a large portion of the food exports from Althamar.

And to the north we have Randragora. It is a swampy forest country, largly unoccupied. Beyond that we have a gnomish kingdom, run by a leader they call a "President" Weird name for a king.

And of course, the map!

Spoiler:

Here is a rough map of the country of Althamar. Obviously there are more roads than those shown on the map. The two main roads that bisect the country are the main trade roads, which run straight through the country. The Trade Road has it's own police force, and is a very well-maintained highway, complete with bricks, and a city situated every days travel, by wagon. This allows for secure travel with comfort, as well as the peace of mind knowing that your trade goods can be under lock and key every night of your journey.

Map Legend: The large, multi-sided star in the middle is the capital city, and the others are the villages and towns that comprise the majority of the rest of the kingdom. The larger the star, the larger the population. The moons are the forest elven cities. Diamonds are important training schools within the kingdom.

Hurrah for Taverntown being the opening. We all meet in every inn!

So about that boxing club, I guess that's what Kearra would be doing at the start. Unless it's run by the organized crime that ran the Pit Fighting circuit. Organized crime, btw, can be a thieves guild, a mafia, or even a corrupt noble. I left it ambiguous. As this is a trope-y game, I figure Thieves' Guild works best especially if there's a crime city like Gotham or Order of the Stick's Greysky City.

Yes, lol, Taverntown was a deliberate choice.

The Boxing Club is a legal bare-knuckle club. It is full of lots of off-duty solders from the fort city of Crombley to the south. They come up to Dromston on leave.

With regards to the Organized Crime, there isn't so much of a crime city, not in a nation run by paladins. That said...I've got you covered.

:D

Steal the mockers from feists krondor. It's just business, not evil. LN thieves guild.

Dotting in but I'll have to copy over the details and polish the alias when I get home.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do to get a spell/formula book without being a wizard.
GM can I VMC wizard and get one that way or is that not enough wizard to understand spell books?

Technically all you need is the read magic spell IIRC

I imagine that when we first meet I'm going to be doing the opposite to what I'll be doing for most of the game... Trying to convince someone I'm an adult. Ya know, so I can get a drink.

Male Dwarf NG Fighter | Lvl 1 | EXP 0 | HP 13/13 | AC 17 | F +4 R +3 W +3 Perc +1

I'm likely to be trying to get a(nother) drink as well, perhaps even giving the head brewer some unsolicited advice, whether he appreciates it or not.

Blank spellbooks are fairly readily available. You'll notice a pair of schools on the map; the northern-most one is a Warmage Academy. As such, there a lot of wizards living all over the country. Althamar has a retirement program that ensures every village has a retired paladin living in the village, and usually a retired warmage as well. They aren't anywhere near as common, and Dromston doesn't have one, but most villages have a paladin and wizard living nearby.

And even then, since spellbooks are a class feature, if you are multi-classing into a class that gets one, you can have one for free.

THE GAMEPLAY THREAD IS LIVE.

Happy troping, everyone!

I think I'd like the map more labelled with a legend in the map itself rather than here in this thread where it'll eventually get buried.

Yes, I plan to update it. It needs some work, but I'll get a better version uploaded and attached to the main link soon enough.

Given that Pushie has STR 16 and Kearra has STR 18, she could turn this situation into this. But I'm not that mean...maybe.

Old Man Stremf FTW!

Also, I'm still not sure whether to stay off the "dwarven" Scottish accent or jump in with both feet. Comments and suggestions accepted.

HEAD FIRST ACCENT! Its more tropy.

Accent is fine as long as you don't mind clarifying anything too broken ooc for the rest of us.

It adds flavor to the character.

If you are undecided you could always mix scottish, irish and russian accents. That way you get trifold cliché dwarf!

"Yer a good lastin' frien, ye know, tovarisch?"

Female Half-Orc Brawler 1 l HP 12/12 l Init +1 l AC 13/11/12 l Fort +5 Ref +4 Will +1 l Perc +4

I'm generally against transcribing accents. I prefer to show accents through lexicon and just saying that the character has one.

'hen it' git' t'o br'k'n it' g't 'un'r'e'd'ble

Male Dwarf NG Fighter | Lvl 1 | EXP 0 | HP 13/13 | AC 17 | F +4 R +3 W +3 Perc +1

Yeah, I'm generally against transcribing accents, but that's because of the (few?) people who go over the top.

I'll continue ta play it by ear, and if we've a wee issue I'll straighten 'er out.

I would use the unreadable over the top style for when Lotar speaks dwarvish, but I suppose I really should be using Norwegian or German (or Hebrew) for that. Oy. מה אתה הולך לעשות

Female Half-Orc Brawler 1 l HP 12/12 l Init +1 l AC 13/11/12 l Fort +5 Ref +4 Will +1 l Perc +4

Sorry GM. Couldn't post yesterday due to food poisoning. What does the man flirting with Kearra look like? Is he cute? ;)

Hey, food poisoning is a good reason to miss a day. Believe me, I get it. Life comes first!

As to Kearra's would-be suitor, he's Billy Idol if Billy Idol was a librarian. I won't say any more than that, and let your imagination fill in the rest.

I think it was an overall thing. You won the last competition but pushie won the rest. I feel bad now! X[

Yes, it is based on overall performance of the event. That said, it was CLOSE. It was the Fortitude Save in the second round that was the clincher!

Also, for what it's worth, Paisie and Pushie need two tickets anyway, and I'm certain you'll like your prize. It is a bracer-slot version of a Catching Cape, like Lotar received. They bought them in bulk!

Male Dwarf NG Fighter | Lvl 1 | EXP 0 | HP 13/13 | AC 17 | F +4 R +3 W +3 Perc +1

Dude, Costco has a magic items aisle?! That's worth the price of membership by itself! ;PPP

I used to work at Costco, and let me tell you, they really do.

Or, the GM knows a combat with archers is coming up, and wants to prepare the party. One of the two.

Not to worry. I've done it once or twice.

I will have a post up tomorrow to move things along. I got a major gash at the very tip of my right index finger, and typing is painful. I was letting it heal, but I should have posted something to that extent. My apologies.
