Welcome FAWTLfolk to "Orthos Tries PBP Again"!

Today's offering is a planar-based campaign centered at the World Serpent Inn, so characters can originate from the setting of player choice or none at all.

We'll be using Pathfinder rules with 3.5 stuff available by request - I as GM will be making use at least of monsters, races, classes, items, and possibly spells and feats, so those are on the table for players as well (so long as I have access to anything you request and I approve), only fair. Ditto with 3rd party PF stuff, though my usual declaration of "If it's on d20PFSRD, I'll probably allow it" is in play.

25 Point Buy for character creation. Go nuts.

We will be starting at level 2, with normal WBL - 1000 GP.

We will be using the d4 method for rolling HP from this point forward, but characters begin with maximum HP for these two levels.

We will also be using this Inherent Character Bonuses chart, so make sure you include its bonuses in your statistics.

Likewise, all characters receive 2 more skill points per level than normal.

Two Traits, as usual.

As this is a planar campaign (and I do mean planar - many different locales to be visited on many different planes and universes) with the potential to pull PCs from any setting, almost all character options are on the table. If you would like to use a 3.5 or homebrew race, let me know and I'll approve if necessary and/or tell you if any tweaks need to be made to the racial properties to bring it up/down to PF standard, or if it is still powerful enough that Level Adjustment or some other payoff feature is going to be needed anyway. (Not likely needed unless someone wants to play something really crazy.)

Evil characters are allowed, but with the caveat of that they need to be a flavor of evil that is capable of working with the party. I'm sure we can all manage that. =)

I am interested. Will probably end up bringing an oracle.

one question: I am unfamiliar with the d4 method, or at least don't know it by that name.
Edit: I can do a fighter, cleric, paladin... anything but a bard really.

I'll think of something. Just haven't decided yet. BTW, you're giving a 25 point buy. Uh do you expect a blue cheese, aged cheddar just mozzarella or what?

I don't think I can muster the stinky blue anymore...

Basically instead of rolling your HP using the full die, you roll d4 and add the difference.

So a d6 HD class would roll 1d4+2+CON
d8 would roll 1d4+4+CON
d10 1d4+6+CON
d12 1d4+8+CON

Keeps a bit of the randomness without ending up with things like "the mage has more HP than the barbarian" due to poor rolls.

Cheesiness is allowed but not necessarily required. I'm admittedly just a bit more used to higher-statted games since my home PnP group uses rolls rather than pointbuy. Plus I like the increased flexibility for concepts and secondary stats that higher pointbuy allows.

Forgot to mention: We are also using a house-rule of my group's where spontaneous full spellcasters (sorcerer, oracle, etc.) do not have a level delay on gaining their newest level of spells compared to their prepared counterparts. Basically treat your spells-known and per-day as if you were one level higher than you actually are.

The intent of the ability is that the Archivist retains all other aspects of the lore master ability. I've got a half-drow/half moon elf Vhaerunite rogue I've been longing to play for yonks (moon elf, mechanically). Could easily redo him as a fighter/wizard or rogue/wizard, or fighter/rogue.

I've found Rogue/divination wizard to be worth it.

Three Character Ideas:

Fighter:

An Aasimar Fighter, would probably go for a power-hit build, focused on using swords.

Rogue:

A Goblin rogue, I will make him a Nightrat clone/variant. It'll be funny. I may even build a him using the vigilante class.

Ranger:

A Dhampir ranger/vampire hunter. I had to throw at least one cliche in.

Sounds fine Limey, as long as he's willing to play along with the party evil is fine (and Vhaeraun is probably the best evil drow god for that). Would he be going into AT or EK or similar?

Any of those should be good Hamster, though I can't promise a huge amount of vampires in a planar campaign, a fiendslayer might be a more common-target concept.

Male Agathion (Leonal) Gestalt Monk-Paladin (with bardic performance!); Mythic (dual): Archmage/Heirophant

Before we start, I apologize. I'm making you work, but it's how I find my creativity. Sorry!

As a second note, because I wish to respect GM authority and autonomy, some of my spoilers are explicitly for GM-only use, barring the GM granting explicit permission to read them. This is for a number of reasons, but primarily for the ease of GMing - if my questions create a cascade of things other players ask about that the GM would rather not get into, that's on me, so I'm trying to handle this... tactfully? Eh, pun half-intended.

As a third note, I'm not trying to break your game... much. Sorry!

1) If I'm a half-elf, can I get elf-only feats? Specifically, I'm asking about the elf dilittante feat, from 3.5...
- 1a) pushing this rabbit hole further, or whatever mixed-metaphor you wanna use: what about "half-elven" (or something) changelings (either/both PF and/or 3.5), kalashtar, or other similar entities of partially-elven heritage? Elan? What if I'm a doppelganger that really thinks it's a drow an elf?

2) Is custom magic item creation allowed? My goals: several single-or-limited-use magic items that cast spells, using non-standard slots.

3) Can I make magic items for less cost by making drawbacks? If yes, how much less? Check the cost is reduced by section for what I mean. Full disclosure: I'm planning to make it really flippin' cold (-10 degrees all over the place) and probably dark (I haven't figured out how to do that, yet, but it's a work in progress), and probably a loooooooooooot of items with exceedingly specific limitations (requiring UMD to use without them), but not stuff like, "bathe in lava" or conintual cost-eaters (holy water). Permanent color change is a "yes," as is rapid hair-growth, permanent shrinkage and/or enlargement, warmer temps (if I must, anyway), weird glowing marks, and possibly stunned upon use 1/day, or something, depending on what the item does and who it's for. I mention these not to brag, but for the purpose of communication with the GM in advance in announcing my plans. Chaotic, sometimes quite silly, but (hopefully) kinda cool in their whimsical chaos, and really helpful, and extremely inexpensive items. If I can wing it, I'm hoping to make those items very, very rapidly.

4) Regardless of that, can I take feats like magical artisan and/or legendary artisan?

5) Do spark of creation, hedge mage, and/or eldritch smith apply, and does the last apply even to magical items?

6) On the topic of making magic (literally), would you prefer an artificer (3.5-or-some-PF-variant), or something more like a factotum? My end-goal is, of course, the chameleon class (though it's probably the single best-written and most cleverly designed and well-thought-out classes Paizo has ever done, I'm just not comfortable with the medium), but I'm okay if that's not allowed.

7) Psionics? Yes? No? Yes? ... yes?

8) Can I burn a level to gain a template, pending approval? That will leave me one level lower than everyone else, but I should be okay with it, if you are. Depends on the template, and GM's over-all opinion (level-adjustment may not exist in PF, but adjusting levels does exist as a designer recommendation, ala "play noble drow starting one level lower than other PCs" from the excellent Jason Bulman).

9) As an exceedingly and suspiciously specific example, would a philter that granted an instantaneous glibness effect cost 2k*3*7 = 42k gold? Give-or-take? (24k and 24 days to craft.)

10) Would the following "trick" function?

GM only, please - seriously, unless GM grants permission:

- max out UMD
- ring of sustenance or similar
- create demiplane to nab "timeless for magic"
- time stop
- use Profession (magix trix) checks until finished
- use "gold-value" earned to make magic items
- exit time stop/delete demiplane/let it run out of time on its own (unless it's own timeless-to-magic trait makes it last forever?)
- distribute psionic "magic" items to the rest of the party

Look, I know it's cheesy as all get-out, but I'm willing to put in the work on my part as a player. Keep enough rations, make a ring that requires being in a time stop to function, ensure I have rations that will last me until the ring starts working, then, literally making profession rolls until I succeed.

Another equally valid and highly important question: how do you feel about "immortal" players due to astral projection+private demiplanes? I will presume you know how this works, but will be willing to answer questions if you don't. Would you prefer if I made "phylcateries" that use the reincarnate line of spells? Or both?

11) Would the following powers/spells be available:

GM:

beastland ferocity

celestial fortress

delay death

distilled joy (look, it's not like I'm suggesting waves of ecstasy or anything... out loud...)

genesis (and how does this interact with the arcane version, and/or the Paizo "create demiplane" line of effects?)

glory of the martyr

masochism

metamorphosis - honestly, this is a much larger question concerning shape-changing and if it works more like Paizo's stuff (not a fan, but understandable) or more like 3.X's stuff; see also polymorph any object

share pain

synesthete

12) While it is probably not a fundamental assumption of the game (or maybe it is, I'unno), is...

GM-only:
... mythic material an option to play with? Specifically things that are mythic that don't require a character to have mythic ranks to start with?

Related: epic level/ELH-type nonsense?

13) Notice I haven't asked about Leadership, yet? I wasn't gonna. Though I could if someone wants...

14) I had another question, but I've forgotten, so that's where I'll leave it, for now. I have several different ideas that I'm interested in pursuing, but I want to get feedback on my very unfocused concepts as presented so far.

Heart yooouuuuuuuuuuu...

I was trying to figure out which rules you were asking on and trying to calculate the possible results of those rules put into play and decided that all it did was give me a headache.

It involves a lot of material I have not reviewed so I cannot speak of the results of it,having not done sufficient research.

1) Psionics is pretty balanced and tame

2) Cheap and easy items is the name of the game for the most part; there might (read: will totally) be, ah, "side effects," though...

3) Everything else is a very poorly veiled (to the point that I explicitly make statements about it) attempt on my part to gain real, ultimate, infinite power of forever and/or immortality for myself and my chosen companions.

4) I make no promises that all of your items will not be both sentient and very stupid.

Male Agathion (Leonal) Gestalt Monk-Paladin (with bardic performance!); Mythic (dual): Archmage/Heirophant

But, honestly, what I'm really trying to get at is: I like my fellow players and want them to succeed. If most of the stuff I've asked about is a flat, "no," I'll do something else.

I mean, I didn't even ask about my start with <all 27 mental scores, all 40 mental scores, all 38 mental scores, all 254* mental scores [select one]>! It's like I'm not even trying!

* Admission,I haven't seen or done the math in a really, really long time, and that would be a pain to look up, so I won't even try, really.

Also, I really do hope it's clear that a lot of my shorter posts are facetious - at least a bit. While I do want to make a super magic device maker, and all-around "fill-in-the-gap" guy (and am not planning on making a bard*), my plans can easily change. I'm pretty flexible... well, okay, my character is flexible... okay, no, with 10s and 12s it's not, but my character concept is flexible... NAILED IT! (First try!)

* admission: if someone came up with a psionic bard that somehow used telepathy/empathy instead of performance, I'd very likely be all over that like white on me, though my broader series of questions still stands
