Govannon opens the north door. This room is filled with weird-looking preserved creatures. Two elaborately carved and painted sarcophagi stand against the east and west walls. A pile of chains lies in the center of the floor.

The chains appear to be completely mundane. It is not clear what they were used for.

"Hey folks, there's something up with the sarcophagus. I'm going to open it, and I expect a mummy to come crawling out to attack us - so be ready." he chuckles, half hoping it's nothing.

He takes out his blade, walks up to the coffin, and cracks it open with his free hand - blade in front of him defensively.

"Wait!" Aleks says. "I sense strong evil radiating from within that sarcophagus." he says, placing his hands on his daggers just in case.

As Govannon opens the sarcophagus, a thin corpse wrapped in black bandages with glowing red eyes and long black talons reaches out for his throat. Simultaneous, the other sarcophagus sprouts arms, legs, yellow-green eyes and a toothy may, and lurches forward to attack.

In a commanding tone in the dark speech of nightmares, wicked Ali makes a commanding gesture with her extended hand towards the red-eyed corpse.

Ali commands the creatures, "Serve me now! Do not attack my servants!" She implies that the rest of the party serves her...

The witchy woman lets out a most hideous scream as she is grappled from behind. Ali's friends involuntarily give pause as the high pitched assault wails on for a long moment.

The entity clutching her vibrates in response to her screams... as if its very construction were being torn asunder.

As the clawed sarcophagus reels from her sonic assault, Ali yells at the mummy in the dark speech.

"Don't just stand there! Rip this grappling menace from my body!"

Defensively cast ear-piercing scream on the clawed sarcophagus (Fortitude vs DC 15 for half damage and to negate the daze effect).

Aleksander successfully strikes the mimic twice with his blades (make two DC 17 reflex checks or one or both blades adhere to the mimic.)

Aliseya commands the mummy forward and then releases an ear piercing scream - the mimic shudders under the sonic assault. The mummy shuffles to flank the mimic (Aliseya, it is a standard mummy - you may control it.)

The clawed sarcophagus continues to rend Aliseya (12 hp damage).

Zelda and Govannon may take their second round action. Aleksander and Aliseya may take their third round action.

"Well, lets see what there is to find." He casts Detect Magic and looks inside the sarcophagus and mimic to see if there's any loot to be had.

He'll then head to the door on the far side. When everyone is ready, he'll swing it open, scimitar in hand.

"Like, ouch."

After the red glow fades from Aliseya's eyes, she looks down with a grimace at her torn-up arms where the mimic's sharp claws had gripped her tightly. She heals her own wounds with her wand.

Putting her wand away, Govannon then grins at something standing beside Aliseya. The mummy looks expectantly at her, but... she stands frozen in place now.

Slowly, her gaze rises from looking down at her arms. Eyes are opened wide, horror in her expression.

"Uhmmm," she mutters as memory of what she did during the battle comes into clear focus in her mind. She looks at Aleks, undoubtedly not too happy about the mummy, then looks back at a smiling Govannon.

Slowly, she then turns her head to look at her new... uh, "friend."

"Ew!"

Govannon finds that the mummy’s sarcophagus is of ancient Osirian make and is worth 2,000 gp. In addition, when he detects magic, he finds that the the mummy's wrapped left hand radiates magic. The mummy stares back at Govannon with burning red eyes.

The far door opens to reveal an exit to the building. An exposed, winding, narrow pathway climbs up the bare rock face.


Human

Govannon coughs politely and looks away from the mummy. It'll be destroyed soon enough and I can examine it then. Undead don't last long in our presence.

He tells the group what the sarcophagus is worth, "Though I don't want to be the one to carry it out of here. It looks awfully heavy." he chuckles.

Later, he looks out the door, "Back way in. Let's finish searching the place before we head down that path. If we do at all."

He'll head back inside and to the spiral staircase. When the party is ready, He'll start climbing up.


Herald of the Netherworld

Govannon finds that the spiral staircase descends down below. A spiral iron stair literally hangs above the valley beneath the museum, connecting to a small stone terrace and a wooden door. Although the view is dizzying, the stair and terrace seem to be stable and safe.

Opening the door reveals a curios room. Three large crates and three sealed, opaque black glass jars sit inside the room. A hulking, faceless creature of bloody muscle and tendons stands in the middle of the room. The creature reminds you of the flesh hound that you previously encountered on the bridge. Leather harnesses attach six small winged creatures with horns and long talons to the hulking brute. When you open the door, the six winged creature begin pulling the lumbering tower of muscle towards you.

Knowledge, Arcana DC 15:
The faceless hulk is a flesh golem. The winged creatures are homunculi.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 I really doubt a roll like that gets me through anyone's space. Since I don't think I can share space with Gov or the mummy, I don't know where that leaves me...

Aleks draws his blades as he reaches the bottom of the stair. He is, however, unable to push past his allies and get through the monster's space. "There's no room to maneuver down here. Let's head back up and hope it can't follow." Aleks says to Gov, not caring whether the mummy understands or is willing to take his advice.


Herald of the Netherworld

Init: Zelda, Aliseya, Aleksander, Govannon, Golem.

Round 1

Zelda attempts to tumble past the golem, but she stumbles in the maneuver and the golem swats at her with a meaty fist (11 hp damage). Zelda then stands and delivers a punishing sword thrust against the flat footed golem, though she notice that her blade has a difficult time cutting through the golem's thick hide.

The mummy stumbles into the room and gets pounded by the golem as it enters (14 hp damage), but then returns an equally ferocious slam attack against the golem.

Aleksander is forced to wait before he can enter the crowded space.

Govannon misses with his first thrust but he lands a hard second attack - he notes that his magic appears to have no effect against the golem.

The tiny winged creatures pull the faceless golem towards Govannon and the construct proceeds to deliver two devastating strikes with its fists against the magus (30 hp damage)

Everyone may take their second round actions.

Facing yet another tough opponent, Govannon agrees with Aleksander’s suggestion that they simply fall back, when Zelda enters the room. ”Zelda, come out of there, I think Aleksander is right, we don’t need to fight this - we can just close the door!”

He stays and swings a round to try and provide her cover to escape, though he may not last another round under the brutal attacks.
