Is there a set progression for these characters, or will we be allowed to choose based on the fluff?
For example, maybe Eilinica would take the harrower prestige class since that is something she places a lot of faith in.
I play a lot of clerics. I think the only type I've yet to play is the dedicated self buffing fighty type, which Elinicia is not.

And I was looking into either taking Cavalier, Paladin, or Cleric levels for Dominnia. It seems she puts a lot into her faith and her willingness to combat evil.
Still all up in the air. And what happens in game may change or start ideas also.
With six characters and a greatsword wielding eidolon. I think we have the muscle needed to take on this AP. Just wish to truly develop them character/RP-wise.

I wonder - Merenso's description states he's got an extra 150gp in starting wealth. Is it already accounted for in his starting gear? Does he start the game with this money in his purse? Or can I pick some more items for him before the adventure starts?
I'm also wondering why his favored enemy are humans, if he became a ranger by hunting down orcs? Well I guess it's for me to work out, isn't it?
As for progression - well, I'd first have to decide on the combat style by the second level :) But seeing as Merenso's mental abilities are not very high, a fighter or rogue look quite appealing.

I have copy pasted Dominnia into the profile please take a look.
Looking at her gear she wasn't truly set to go out on adventure LOL. And she as no money but thankfully shouldn't need it to start.
flykiller you might want to look at Treantmonk's Guide to Rangers. Looks like to me he (Kull) has the stats to be a great switch hitter type.

Thanks! I have actually found the guide myself already, it's great work. The switch hitter is definitely a great way to play Merenso. Still, the guide has the core ranger in mind. As a skirmisher doesn't have access to spells, I'll have to take a long hard look at its tricks and decide if rogue/fighter abilities can complement this type better. But first, I have to actually get him through some adventures alive, of course :)

The published product only stats out the characters at first level, not beyond. There is, however, a paragraph with suggested advancement tips up through about 5th level. I'll be happy to send you that info if you want, and you may choose to use or disregard these suggestions as you see fit. The 'pregen' part is just a starting point. From here, these characters are wholly your own.

Absolutely! Exactly what I'm hoping for.

Apothecary of Caliphas |

Does the product also say something about Merenso's gold? Because I have stuff to spend it on if I can :)
At a glance, I'd say his gear already includes the extra 150 gp. The composite longbow along costs 100 gp.
That said, it looks like the pregens don't have any cash in pocket, do they? Just realized that. Let's do some die rolling and say that each of you have 1d20+5 gp in addition to your starting equipment lists. You can spend that on additional gear, or hold onto it for the game's start as you see fit.
Let's use the die rolling app here on the boards for your rolls, if that's okay with everyone.

Probably a meta-game issue as much as anything. I'm not sure there are a lot of orc enemies throughout this campaign.

Merenso Kull |

Night has fallen on the forests near Ravengro. There was no wind and the forest stood silent. Occasionally, owls were hooting in the oak branches, and squirrels shuffled the leaves of the undergrowth. But Merenso Kull's ears picked up another noise, clearly alien to the forest.
"Ding, ding, ding" - the quiet noise was matching his swift footsteps in the darkness. Merenso cursed under his breath. He cast a glance around and, apparently noticing something, reached for the nearby grass patch. He picked a suitably long and thin blade of grass out of it and rolled it between his palms for a while, until it became soft. He then produced a small coin purse out of his pocket.
"Darn thing's untied again, I hope nothing has fallen out. Let me recount." - he whispered under his breath. Luckily, all the 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 coins were still there. Having quickly replaced the string with the grass blade and tucked the purse away more reliably, Merenso continued on at a steady pace. He was sure that he is going reach the town of Ravengro in time for the funeral by virtue of cutting the path straight through the forest.

Hey, do any of you know how I can link you guys as players and characters under the campaign tabs?
This will be done when we post in the game, proper.
Yeah it is automatic for anyone that posts in the Gameplay tab. No work involved. And then under the Campaign tab you can edit the players and characters as people drop or join.
Great RP/fluff Merenso - I think this will be the start of a great game.
Extra Cash = 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Jevalt Ardain |

The carriage rocked violently, and Jevalt Ardain curses inwardly at the driver as he adjusts himself back into a comfortable position in his seat. The amount that the man was asking for payment was obscene. But it was a long was to Ravengro from Caliphas... and dangerous. Jevalt opens his small coin pouch, recounting what was left after the driver's highway robbery. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 gold, just like the last time he looked. Jevalt sighs and parts the small black window curtain to peer outside. His eyes are greeted by thick rolling fog and grim, barren trees. Dangerous indeed. Jevalt closes the curtain and reconciles himself that soon he would be seeing the beautiful rolling countryside Canterwall was known for.
Wow, if these cash rolls are indicative of how our rolls are gonna be when the game starts, it's looking grim for our heroes.

Great, thanks for the info you two!

Might as well play with all eight Pre-Gens then. LOL
The Professor would probably have wanted as many people to come in and take care of The Whispering Way and his daughter, as he could get. And we could get twice the research down in the same time splitting up into two groups.
Even if you bring on the eight character as an NPC that might stick near Kendra as bodyguard or be about town gathering their own info to pass out. That would be cool.
Could even split into groups searching Harrowstone. That is one tough dungeon.
The only down side I see is XP. Maybe switching to the fast progression or not using XP and having us level up when you believe fitting.

Eilinica Ziorec |

More CG lovin' to spread about!
Given the investigative nature of this AP, having more PCs isn't really going to hamper too much. There's so much sittin' around time that conceivably, some of the PCs can elect not to participate in combat, and focus instead on the farting about tasks and not step on anyone's toes.
That's just MHO, though.

Yeah, I'll have to give some thought to how best to balance things out. Still, I'm glad no one seems vehemently opposed to the notion.

![]() |

I find it easier to just level the party when you feel it is appropriate.
Also, from the perspective of a GM whose ran Carrion Crown, be very liberal with trust gains, otherwise things can get bad in Ravengro fast. Unless you bend over backwards to help those people, that -1 trust per day makes it real hard to hit the 25-30 trust that you need to get through parts of the adventure.

Merenso Kull |

7-8 people sounds totally fine if the character progression will not be hampered. Merenso doesn't frown at the competition, seeing as he'll either be alone scouting, or shooting from behind the ranks most of the time :) Although the prospect of sitting around in a town isn't quite his cup of tea.

Apothecary of Caliphas |

Awww, it's too bad no-one wants to play the alchemist :( almost makes me want to play two characters, just to get the roster full.
Well, there are still interested persons queued up in the recruiting thread. One of them would probably play the alchemist, if we wanted to go all in on these pregens. What do you all think?

![]() |

I think it would be a fun way to play this.
Just would need to make sure everyone can post up quickly and not slow us down with trying to go out and do stuff on their own.
Wonder how hard it would be for two separate groups that are running the game at the same time? I know that would be neat but probably a headache for the GM.
Hmmm... I may have to look into how that would work and possible do something like it myself down the road. It does sound fun.

So be it, I'm looking for a player for Xiuj Hak Leyng now, too. :) Don't worry, I have no qualms about moving the game forward when it needs to, whether all players have posted or not. I won't let things bog down due to a slow posting PC.
I originally considered two games of four PCs each, as you may recall, but I decided it would be too confusing for me to try to remember which group is where in the adventure.
Everyone, thanks for your patience as we try to round out the play group and get things rolling. I had hoped to have the game thread up and running by now, but I am hoping to get the roles of the other PCs filled. I won't wait much longer, though.

I am boarding a flight home to Norway in about 36 hours, and will be unavailable to post from the 29th til the 31st, essentially. Will have access to the internet on the 30th but I typically don't sleep on the international flights and my head feels like cotton after the 30 hour ordeal.
Just a heads up.

Am getting ready for the start of the game and wish to know if you will be using the whetstone rules from Adventure's Armory?
And trying to put all my thoughts on background together for a good story. The way I wish to play the summoner/eidolon relationship to start will make for some fun RP.
Spending a little of my 7gp now Whoo Hoo! :)

Glad you made it Hu5tru...
...and sorry to hear about the real life monster getting the better of you Stomphoof. Good luck.
Yeah TUE but then that is the way of pbp, the same thing happen to a game I wanted to start. Said "We are starting SUN night guys." and then TUE morning I finally had the time to post up. LOL
Guess we really can't predict the future, would be nice to know the lottery numbers just once though.
